As any Continuous Integration tool it does what it should do. Builds and runs. Hard to say what's the most because haven't used other CI tools but CircleCI does what's expected and there was no thoughts about changing to other tools. So I would recommend using it.

Nachteile

The tutorials are not yet clear. They don't lead from start to workable CI.

I use the free version and it is very good software. You can download CircleCI to your local machine by using docker and then run the test on local before committing your code.

The interface is clean and intuitive, which has made it a breeze to get started with and learn the ropes with this tool!

Circle CI provides some getting started assistance through documentation and tooling, and once you’re past that there really is very little in terms of constraints holding you back from near infinite flexibility. It’s a great service!

CircleCI is a great software for provisioning software or applications before publishing them on the production environment. It speeds up our provisioning process and allows us to debug our applications really well! Saved us a lot of time so we can work on something better!

The pricing of concurrent jobs and containers is too high, I can set up one myself using other hosting providers at a way cheaper price.

It is easy to setup. It can do very fast parallel testing. I find UI of it clear and easy to use. it provide integration of many app like GitHub. it supports 8 languages and 16 databases and it also supports Headless browser.

it Does not cache docker images. Docker is way outdated on the VM provided. Other than that i don't find any problem with it. I think it is best

CircleCI is great for doing pipelines and integrating commits from each member of our teams. Great error reporting helps identify errors right away.

Fully integrated with docker and because everything is moving to containers (or should be for scalability) this is huge for us. Tests can run automatically after pushing commits help identify problems before our clients would find them. The earlier you find a bug the cheaper its costs you in the end.

The setup of pipelines is very easy, especially with the orbs. Each pipeline is always code, so it's automatically versioned. We moved away from CodePipelines from AWS because it was too click-intensive.

The permissions are simple: everything is copied from GitHub in our case. What seems at first convenient ends up quite confusing. And it's easy to get lost with security contexts. It would have been nice to be able to see who can perform what action from the Circle CI UI itself.

Best part of circleCI is the ease of continuous delivery feature it offers, it's very easy to integrate it with GitHub too. Another pro of CircleCI over other CI/CD tool like Jenkins is the simple yet feature rich UI. For beginners or pros, this workflow management tool is pretty simple yet futuristic.
It also makes running automated test cases for different branches really easy before deployment.

Nachteile

There is room for improvement in areas where Jenkins is already winning, like skipping parts of execution stages that are not required every time new change is pushed.
Another one would be the execution time, using it with terraform to run plans & eventually apply, it can take hours if your infrastructure is complex & there is no way to actually divide it in stages.
Better central monitoring & dashboard for different projects can be helpful, somewhat like Jenkins shows rainy, cloudy or clear skies signifying project health.

The pipelines can be broken into different steps, which makes debugging, managing and approving individual phases way easier. Also, looking at the logs and being able to share static permalinks to them is quite useful when you have larger teams. We all can see the progress of the building pipelines in real time and can debug and manage them. Great tool over all.

Nachteile

Sometimes it fails and doesn't immediately let's you go to debug the issue. Also, some settings for the VMs are tricky to set up right.

With a Github/Bitbucket account, it is easy to setup the CircleCI account. It automatically detects all the repositories. We can easily add the configuration file and start using the pipelines. Various customisation and parallelisation options are provided. Lot of possibilities for automation and customisation. Overall a good product.

Nachteile

It was bit of a hassle to start first, the configuration were not very easy. Also struggled a bit to manage various Github organisations. Once easy and setup, it's easy and fast.

It's inexpensiveness is the main attraction but also along with that CircleCi provides tons of other helpful features as well you can share the test logs via email as well.

The Github integration made migrating our workflows to CircleCI quite seamless. We use the same integration for access control to ensure only certain team members can view/deploy.

Web UI feels cluttered, even after a redesign. No mobile app last I checked. This doesn't happen nearly as often anymore, but we used to experience random 'hangs' that were not explained by our own processes - canceling and restarting the job always did the trick though.

Excellent customer service, and now even faster builds Workflows 2.0 makes it simple for me to parallelize tasks. Simple integration with code-quality services like GitHub. If necessary, it can be built on macOS.

Nothing of significance to point out. It's a little messy with reduced resolutions if we go to a project and filter it by Branch Name. On a mobile device or a browser tab, for example.
Except for that, everything else is fine.

It's relatively simple to get started. I like that you can pick between Docker and VMs. It integrates with GitHub nicely.

Nachteile

The Docker in Docker paradigm doesn't work for us since we use containers. We end up using VMs anyways. I think the configuration language is not that great to use and can quickly get unwieldy for larger CI workflows (especially when repeating jobs with different parameters).

There are also outages at least once a quarter.

It is so simple to set up, run, manage and maintain. It gives really fast feedback and is so versatile. This should be the standard way of doing automated pipelines.

Nachteile

For some of the pretty common things, like iOS app builds the costs escalate very quickly. Also, their sales team is very aggressive in how they push for upgrades, to the point of removing key items being used in the pipelines to force upgrades.

One of the market leaders. You can bet it is going to be here for at least next few years and your one off implementation and deployment of this service will do for long time without ay significant change and it will serve you reliably.

Nachteile

For some not_totaly_standartd deployments or integrations it is (as many similar products) a bit tricky. But thanks to the huge community you can find some solution for pretty much everything quite quickly.

The codability of CircleCI makes it very useful as we can checkout the `circleci/config.yaml` in our VCS and peer review is possible.

While YAML code is convenient and preferable by many developers, it's good to have a GUI based pipeline tool where we can drag and drop steps and jobs.

- I am not the biggest fan of the recent UI update. If the "expand" toggle is set to true, everything jumps resulting in me clicking things unintentionally.
- Many of us have workflows that we do not use on every push (e.g. deploying to testing). With the next UI changes, the UI has a timer column which is always updating, why???
- Why can't I select a default project? When I now browse to circleci, I always have to select a project. Most developers only ever work on one project at a time, let us choose one!

- I have it running in several project and works really well.

- Pricing could be a little bit better I guess or have a better free plan for beginners, I don't think any cons of using CircleCI actually.

CircleCI was great and easy to set up. It allows me to see what's going on with all of my builds quickly and in real time.

The user management is not very good. I have 5 contributors to a repo, and I can only add two of them as users. I can't even add users that aren't a contributor to the repo. My boss, my QA people, and my PMs can't see anything that's happening in the platform.

Sine the release of circleci v2.0 using containers as the main advantage using circle has become much simpler and powerfull. Their integration with IOs its a powerup in front of other CI/CD platforms

The simplicity of configuration is unparalleled. We use CI on new projects day one. The ease of use, and setup, is definitely what keeps us coming back.

Lack of tools for multi project repos. We would love to keep our front and back-end code together in one repo while splitting the CI for them. So, it'd be great if we could run two builds separately based on the same repo.

It is incredibly easy to get started, you can be integrated in hours and from then on its a consistent reliable platform for all your CI needs.

As test suites grow and parallelization becomes important it can get awfully expensive. I still use it on every project but I was at a prior company where we racked up bills in the thousands a month without really trying for not that big a product. This was definitely due to some poor planning but CircleCI makes it easy to land yourself in that kind of situation if you're not careful.

Has helped up to totally streamline our development and testing workflow. Each service has it's own pipeline. The management interface and docker integration have made the setup and monitoring process super simple.

Super easy configuration and initial setup. Powerful features like running steps of build/testing process in parallel. CircleCI is our teams core safety net for catching bugs and deploying safely, often.

Nachteile

Not a lot to dislike. Sometimes the interface changes and buttons that you used to expect to be there (like the one for rebuild with out cache) disappear. Hopefully there will be fewer of these unexpected changes as 2.0 becomes more mature.

When I first starting using CircleCI with version 1 I loved the simplicity. Every code would execute the commands in a relatively simple yml file. Version 2 is far more powerful and flexible. It took me a while to get used to but I still find Circle's ease of use to make it my choice over others.

Nachteile

Version 2 has a lot of complexity that can make it hard to get started with. Their Orbs concept is bringing back some simplicity.

Vorteile

Great UI, easy to setup, easy to manage. All integrations "just work", we use Slack notifications, webhooks for triggering build, and even those sweet browser notifications when we need to make sure that the build is successful. Impressive Docker support.

Circle 2.0 offers improved customizability, added more features, but for small and simple projects it's not as easy to setup anymore.
