Vorteile

1. It did almost everything I wanted to did for my semester project and what it wasn't able to do was always added in the next update. A pleasant surprise.
2. PL/SQL was so difficult for me . But still the documentation made it easy.
3. It's core is a relational database, which is a mathematical model and makes it easier for people from science and mathematics background to understand and use.

Nachteile

1. Felt a bit overwhelming in the first few days of its use.
2. So many features and syntax are prone to be forgotten.
3. Expensive if you want to use a particular or minority of features.

Vorteile

Oracle is an absolute powerhouse. Currently it is the best database management system on the market and the only paid one. That is for a reason, nd that reason is that it features the best scripting language called PLSQL. It's turing-complete (meaning you can theoretically do literally anything) and makes room for unimaginambly complex calculations and transformations. Oracle DB allows for storing huge amounts of data and have access to it at a moments notice.

Nachteile

Despite offering more than enough value for money, I do still consider it overpriced. Huge price tags often deter smaller enterprises from using a platform and nobody should miss out on Oracle DB.

Oracle can work and improve its customer service. Oracle customer service is not that great. However it is changing.

Even when being competitors, SAP ERP and Oracle Database was the best to pair up for a long time. Among the different databases I've worked with as an SAP developer during my career, Oracle has been the most trustworthy and easy to work with when doing native SQL.

Licensing is expensive, as is often the case with Oracle and SAP.

Had to use it for work. It was ok for filesharing, but I feel like half the time it didn't work anyway.

DEFINITELY needs a facelift in terms of its GUI. I thiiiink it needs to be more secure too, I feel like we had issues with security but I could be wrong. Seems old and outdated and like it should have already been replaced and made obsolete by some sexy new Google or startup product.

I like that this software is a workhorse and really is capable of everything. I also like that it is customizable to the needs of the company using it.

It really takes a lot of specific training and experience to get to know this system really well. There are a lot of little caveats and silly rules to follow to get things where they need to be. Once you learn the tricks of the trade it's no problem but it is not intuitive or user-friendly at all.

Oracle Database is a well-known professional-level database. It does it's job well, storing data, and having countless ways to query and access it's data. Updating, inserting, deleting are accompanied by every clause you could want to control your data. It's a robust database, and works seamlessly with most IDEs.

There are more than a few different "big player" databases in the market, other than Oracle, and they each often have their own spin of SQL commands. It's hard to keep the nuances straight, and thus there's a learning curb to getting the syntax correct. This is more an annoyance overall, and not specific to Oracle - just note, that it's different then MySQL.

Reliability!!! Without a doubt, the Oracle database series (I think it's up to Oracle 12c now) is the `godfather' of commercial transaction and government RDBMS software. With it's different version releases, the software has been around close to 40 years!!! It's the originsl flagship product of the Oracle corporation.

Nachteile

It's expensive. So, if you don't need to support a lot of data and transactions per second you should seriously consider a cheaper option like MySQL or a nosql database like MongoDB.

Installation Time per individual instance!!! I've automated the whole thing from a fresh install of a Linux Operating system and it still takes at least ~3.5 hours to install it, although I've done it in as little as 2.5 hours, but it depends on where the package repository is, and how version control is being handle! (POINT THE MATTER IS, IT CAN TAKE VERY LONG TIME FOR MERE INSTALLATION) On Windows operating systems it can take up to 8 hours or more, your first time around!

Oracle is definitely one of the best implementations of RDBMS. It manages memory very efficiently and can handle complex JOIN operations which easilly cripple MySQL and MsSQL. Oracle has a great Architecture, because it is very easy to organise different applications data very well. I think the best plus for me is the SQL Engine that Oracle possess, it is very advanced, making it the only database to operate a data warehouse! Running complex queries on Oracle is just easy.Other features like Materialized Views, PL/SQL e.t.c. make Oracle have value for money

SQL*Plus with a built-in tabular format output; useful for rows that span across many lines. No, Grid Control SQL Output just doesn't cut it; it's a static output of the entire table. It doesn't have the powerful SQL*Plus commands.

It is big, resource-intensive, expensive, hard to maintain, hard to patch, unreliable, impossible to distribute without an equally cumbersome and expensive add-on, and it keeps your applications mired in the past.

Oracle provides an easy and powerful way to interact with data. Capabilities such as data dictionaries and indexes make it easy to optimize the performance of existing procedures, and the organization of schemas make finding and editing current stored tables and scripts intuitive. I transitioned to using Oracle from MySQL and it has been an easy transition. It also integrates seamlessly with Spotfire to enable dynamic visualizations and enables insight into business decisions.

Nachteile

The permissions granted to different departments and the access for different schemas can be confusing to navigate. I know that these permissions are enabled as a safety feature, but it is still frustrating to move through the ranks in order to enable certain accesses. The software also crashes occasionally, which was frustrating. If you are working on an already overtaxed system, be aware and save your work often in case of an unexpected closeout.

The update process is very complicated. It was necessary to review the procedure well in advance. Just running the installer is not enough to update.

Most of real life business scenarios are taken care by it easily.
It works with variety of applications and easily integrated.

Nachteile

Its deployement and maintenance requires expert level skills.
Its license is very expensive.
Difficult to diagnose performance issues over here.

There's a database version and feature for every need. For instance, my company started using Oracle Database Express Edition, right now we are using Oracle Database EE with RAC feature. The announced autonomous feature looks fantastic.

I had to think a lot to find something to like least and I have to say that I would like to have a standard feature for database performance without using Cloud Control.

Oracle SQL syntax is my preferred one. Performance on relational DBs is good. No need to create a separate DB, you can use tablespaces.
SQL Developer as OracleDB client is great. TNS names integration for third-party software is awesome.

Performance for simple solutions could be improved, but of couse it is not what this type of DBs is designed for.

I am used to PL/SQL syntax so I prefer it to other SQL dialects. The fact that Oracle drivers and tools are stable and widely used. That the free version of Oracle client SQL Developer is good enought for most use cases.

It has a very high cost. It is not intended for small projects. incredibly it has a concept of sequences and has no autoincremental fields. It is really unusual to allow a bad programmer to use a sequence for several tables. beyond that that would be a bad development practice the biggest mistake is that the tool invites you to commit it

We have been using Oracle Databases more than 10 years in our critical databases. We are using 10, 11 and 12c versions on different projects. If you give Oracle Database lots of physical memory and fast SAN storage, you can get unbelievable performance results compared with other free db solutions. It is easy to manage with EM Console, too. Customer service and metalink support are also magnificent.

Only negative side is the price policy. It's an expensive solution.

Oracle Databases for my work are extremely simplistic when it works properly. No extra bells & whistles, just simplistic database productivity for what I need it for.

I've experienced so many issues with buggy/laggy data-entry fields within the Oracle Database. It often glitches and breaks completely if you don't enter values and click a certain part of your screen before moving on to the next field. Often, this has resulted in frustration and lost time.

This program has lots of different features and ways to organize, and pull specific data. I like that you can customize the reports, and the search features are easy to customize as well. I find that they provide a comprehensive list of all different information available on our employees.

Nachteile

The software is not intuitive and takes a lot of training to navigate and understand. Our managers are constantly confused, despite multiple training sessions, and the lack of intuitiveness in the menus can often be frustrating.

Oracle has a lot going for their DB offerings. They have a good GUI that is loaded with all the right functions and features that it needs. It makes things a little easier to find and use than MS SQL Server in my experience.

Nachteile

Price, that is the hardest one to get past for most. Oracle isn't free but they offer a lot of support with their software which helps with how much it cost. Their software is also a bit on the slow side but not terribly bad.

Fully SQL complaint. Provides High availability. Can handle a huge volume of data. Preferred by many customers. Provides good SQL developer tool to create and manage a database.

Cost is higher. Installation and creation of schema is bit complicated. Not a good fit for startups. Postgres can be used instead.

The most I like about Oracle DB is a stable DB, easy to program objects (packages, procedures, functions, triggers, views) using pl/sql language, easy to create and mantein data base structures (tables, indexs, constraints) and it´s easy to access data using sql sentences (insert, update, delete)

The least I like about this is that every time you migrate to a new Oracle DB version you have to modify some DB programs ir order to adjust performance.

Oracle has the advantages of being a mature and stable RDBMS with a lot of features. Unlike its open-source counterpart MySQL; it has better features for point in time recovery; performance and stability. It makes it suitable for Enterprise level projects where performance is a must alongside stability.

Nachteile

It's not easy to set up in a test environment and containers. Cloud-based setups for this are much expensive. Secondly, you need a lot of client software for backups and interaction with DBMS. Secondly, it overindulges when its about resources and starves other processes thus needing expensive servers with more resources.

To increase the performance, Oracle has some features as partitioning and compression. Also it secure the information with encryption technology.

Nachteile

Some features have additional license. So if you want to add additional features you pay more.

The size of the installation and configuration steps could be tricky. It takes time to get used to install and maintain your database. I think application performance and query return speed can be improved.

I have used Oracle for over a decade and it has improved so much over the time. I must say its a highly configurable database and can be used for variety of applications. Over the years, high availability, disaster recovery, replication, encryption. security & performance capabilities have improved vastly.

Easy to deploy, we have high usage varying from standard installs to multi instance, rack, replicated high availability and reporting instances. Good performance and competes with our other standard database options if approved.

Compared to other similar products the options can be overwhelming, but once understood you can easily integrate this into your organisation. GoldenGate for replication makes high availability easy, backups are configurable and quantifiable which satisfies many regulatory requirements.

As we know Oracle database never compromise with security that is the reason most of web sites us it to store product data. We can store any amount of data on it and retrieve it very fast through queries. We can link it with any language like java and c#. Our customers is very happy to using it as they are able to get data in few seconds.

Temenos T24 integrates perfectly with Oracle databases. We have been using Oracle Database since 2019 and are pretty much satisfied with the performance of the database. It handles big data i.e. Customer data, accounts, Loans , Deposits data very smoothly. We have arround 3 million customers , 5 million loans and deposits, around 7 million accounts.

Nachteile

Whenever we perform any changes in the T24 core application (Customer, Account, Loan) i.e. add new local field we have to rebuild the table. Otherwise data will become logically incorrect.

When I worked, what helped me a lot was user access control.

When you work with a very large database, sometimes it ends the connection because it has been more than 15 minutes.

Costly than the others in market and installation times may be huge. It also requires a big partition allotted to it for best functionality.
