Vorteile

I love that I can basically edit my podcast episodes by working with what is essentially a word doc. The auto transcriptions are super helpful for pulling quote, clips, and soundbites - especially if I ever go back through and just want to skim the content (without having to listen for a specific section of the episode.

Nachteile

I don't have many cons to share. If I were using the transcripts as part of my finished product I might like them to be a bit more accurate, but it looks like there are frequent updates to make them more and more spot on (with easy enough features to customize and dial in the exact transcript where needed).

Vorteile

I like how realistic the voice sounds on the text to speech feature and also like how you can use your own voice which is probably one of the best features.

Nachteile

Some words are not pronounced correctly but could be changed with spelling I guess.

Vorteile

Editing a video or audio on the basis of the transcription, i.e. practically editing text, makes life so much easier. I love that it's the only tool I need for editing videos and audios.
The support is outstanding - quick and always personal and nurturing.
Love that it's being improved constantly too.
It's the first tool ever that I upgraded even before the free trial hours were used.

Nachteile

The only trouble I had was sharing projects with a team member and messing about until we managed to all access what we need to access.

I love having a global perspective of the content in a video or audio file by reading the automatic transcription. When I have a video in a traditional linear editor I have no perspective of what content falls where, this requires me to watch the content in full, take notes, and then start editing. With Descript I can get context by skimming the text and start editing almost immediately!

Nachteile

Playback and editing controls are not intuitive, opposite functionality of other mainstream products.

Ease of editing by working with the transcript and not the video & audio only.

The continual updates. Seriously this has got to stop. Every single week a button has moved or been added or changed shape. Please stop. I would pay triple to stop the changes.

My favorite feature is color-coded highlighting and exporting. I can export just the selections I need - it helps me when I need to bang out a produced story on a deadline and I am sorting through hours of tape! Editing and selecting the words my subjects have said is so useful. It also helps me write my script for my story - I can copy/paste the text of what my subject says.

Nachteile

It's not totally intuitive how to select or expert ambient noise, and I make all of my teeny-tiny edits (ums, uhs) in a different audio editor. But I use Descript for organizing and exporting files and selections.

Vorteile

The interface is so well-executed that it actually makes editing fun!

Transcribing my videos so then I can have closed captions and also a Blog is something that I was doing anyway. But then adding in video editing... and overdubbing... are you kidding me?! this is an industry game changer.

Nachteile

I had a problem once where the video wouldn't export. But the customer service jumped in right away and was very helpful. and the program is so well designed that I figured it out by myself before the customer service even return to my email within the next hour.

The software allows us to zip through our process of documentary editing. We are Emmy Award documentary producers and both for our production work and teaching Descript is a giant step ahead for us

I was truly deeply excited when I first used the software. And that's rare for me! Jam packing so many features into one software. Amazing.

Overdubbing with a robot voice clone that's just like my own.

This is truly amazing!

Nachteile

I really have nothing to complain about. the automatic transcriptions are not perfect out of the box, but they can't be. I don't expect them to be. But I'm sure AI technology will continue to improve in this area exponentially.

Vorteile

This software is so easy to use for editing podcasts that it's ridiculous. If you can edit a Word Document, you can edit your podcast. I also like how they make it easy to add voice recordings and export a section into an audiogram for social media

Nachteile

The AI transcription could be better. If you're going to use it for a podcast transcript for your website, I would suggest paying for the white glove transcription otherwise you'll spend a ton of time editing it.

It does so many things that I need it to do. It handles the end-to-end process of recording, editing, polishing and presenting audio and visual self-created media, and does it with class.
The 'hook' that originally set me on to the software was the functionality of being able to edit text and have the audio automatically edited. Previously I was using standard audio editing software, and because I do a lot of editing (mid sentence edits, changing the location of words) I would probably have had a breakdown if I hadn't found Descript.

Nachteile

I think it's not quite right to describe these as 'cons' as the software is continually being updated, and users finding areas for improvement is part of the process.
As you use the software more, you discover things that you would like to have differently. For example, at the moment, you can't pause the Screen Recorder - not a massive issue because you can delete gaps automatically - but still something that should be fairly easy to add.
These issues don't bother me, because I know I can send an email and there is a high likelihood that the issue will be fixed.

I love how I can edit the text and that changes the audio and video along with it.

Nachteile

Doing more complicated video editing can get a little clunky but that is perhaps just due to user error.

I got this tool for captioning initially, now I use it for all my videos. It's easy to use and the support was good. I also found creative ways to use the timeline to animate images. The control over audio gain, compression etc.

Nachteile

No COPY and PASTE function for video clips.
How clips are pinned is still a bit of a mystery to me.
Inability to save editing templates.
No green screen support.
Why do clips shorten from the back?

Vorteile

I recommend Descript for my clients that are new to recording and editing podcasts because it is a simple tool for them to use to get started.

Nachteile

I would love to be able to use my iZotope plug-ins with it.

Vorteile

It's a life saver for editing audio. Never again will I edit audio blindly - Descript is SO helpful in storytelling, and scripting narrations, and overall getting a better grasp on what you have in your audio. I love being able to add multiple compositions into a single project - it keeps things wonderfully organized.

Nachteile

The recent update to removing filler words has been cutting off words from either side of the filler word.

Vorteile

There is absolutely nothing in this world that is easier to use than Descript. It has saved me HOURS of work compared to Camtasia (which is really complicated and hard to learn). You can cut parts out of the video by deleting words from a transcript that Descript automatically generates, and remove filler words (um, ah) with a single click. The final video is better than when I use Camtasia to cut things down to the millisecond. It's a genius piece of software and everyone should try it.

There are a lot of features I know I'm not utilizing enough.

The most robust stand-alone software I have used for what I needed, which was removing filler words and silences. Not only that it makes audiograms and provides transcription too

The cost. I do not need to use Descript all the time, only when I have projects which may be once every other month. So I cant justify a yearly cost.

Vorteile

Descript has changed how I work in documentary audio. It's so much faster and easier to try new story ideas, pull selects, and get a rough mix ready. I've used the app since pre-release in 2017, and they've added great new features at a relentless pace. I can't imagine working without a tool like Descript.

Nachteile

With new features, the app has gotten more sluggish and more cluttered. Writing text makes my laptop get extremely hot and the fans rev up. I can't work for long on battery power. A release focused on speed, stability, resource efficiency, and cleaning up the interface is sorely needed.

Vorteile

The 'remove filler words' feature is fantastic! It makes editing a podcast much much easier and is a must have tool for podcast editors

Nachteile

The playback controls are not great and can be painful to use, especially if you are trying to edit quickly. For example, when you use the 'remove filler words' feature and press on one of the filler words, it automatically plays the clip and that causes my computer to lag. Ideally, it would just show the section and the filler word highlighted, then I would be able choose whether to press play and play the clip or adjust what is highlighted and delete. As often the full word is not highlighted and I can tell just from looking, I don't need to hear it.

There is so much boring groundwork we have to do as content creators. Descript just makes everything much easier and faster. It is very inexpensive compared to other tools or hiring freelancers. Descript enables me to make more high-quality content, and repurpose existing content into other formats.

Nachteile

I use the transcribing feature a lot, and it can be a bit inaccurate.

It is very easy to create a draft transcript of good quality fast (depending on the speaker).

I still use Word or Google docs for editing. On first sight the editor does not seem very intuitive but to be fair I didn't really give it a try. It would be great if accents of native speakers could be recognized by Descript.

The transcribing ability in this software is truly lifechanging. It has made video editing so much faster and easier. We do a lot of editing so this makes life so much better.

Nachteile

The program opens so many windows sometimes and takes up a lot of RAM especially when exporting, my machine can handle it just fine but it may be an issue for others. Also there are a lot of updates which is good in some ways but often I am in the middle of editing and get prompted to restart the program.

I love that although there are many features I haven’t used yet that the basics of how the software works is extremely easy to jump right in and implement.

Nachteile

Although I appreciate the updates it has been challenging to keep up. And the explanations of how and when to use certain features could be clearer.

I adore that we can edit our podcast audio and transcript at the same time with Descript! Saves soooo much time. Love that they also make such regular improvements based on customer needs. Great customer service, great product!

It sometimes is a little glitchy/laggy the longer I'm working in it, but a restart usually fixes it

The difference Descript has over other transcription services is that you can
1. Create variations by making different projects
2. Export XML to Final Cut or Premier for an edited version that speeds up workflow for interviews and the spoken word.

Learning the software is pretty straight forward and they have great tutorials when you run into a snag.

Descript has been a game changer for my corporate and personal profile video workflow. I share the script with my client and ask them to highlight stuff they want me to try and keep in their spoken word. When I’m done putting a rough together, I send them a link from the site. Super easy and looks really professional.

Nachteile

I can’t really say there are any con’s at the moment. This software tops the other transcription services that I was using and wouldn’t go back because of the features and cost of descript.

I love that you can see the transcript while editing. It really helps with people with a learning disability like myself to see the words on the screen as well as hearing.

Nachteile

That there is no way to edit two separate tracks in one audio. (i.e. two people speaking with their own audios).

I love the fact that it is sooooo easy to create small snippets and make them ready for social in such a small amount of time.

I love how simple it is to use. I love how I can open it up, it's organized, easy to start a new project, edit away, and export easily to other applications as well as .mp3 or .wav files. It's saved me tons of time in my workflow. Being able to see the words and search by word is a game changer. I love that I can create audiograms for audio, highlight text for quotes, and export finish projects.

Nachteile

I use an another DAW, Adobe Audition, because I am familiar with more intense editing within Audition. From the use of plug ins to more customization with cross fades, I feel I can do more outside of Descript when it comes to mixing and mastering the audio files. The cross fades also do not export to Audition and that would be a huge help if Descript was able to do that.

Very easy to use and learn. Transcriptions are great quality, pretty accurate and ease of editing makes this a great tool to use.

Would be great if you could select more than one thing to export at a time (e.g. Transcript, video and. Srt file)

I am a complete novice when it comes to recording. I have found Descript easy to use, fantastic that I can see the transcript and manipulate it to get the recording that I need. The drag and drop of video and music is so easy and brilliant. And when I asked a sound technician to check my quality he was impressed with the sound. The room tone is a great addition

I don't know what I don't know - I don't know what other options there are.
Other than that I have found it great.

I love that I can simply delete sentences from my video with Descript, just by highlighting text and deleting it. This allows me to refine what I've improvised into a clearer, more understandable product. I can even replace words using a feture they have that creates artificial speech in your voice. Plus, with its drag and drop editing, it's easy to close gaps where I paused for a long time.

Nachteile

I had to contact tech support to learn how to export. It's not as obvious as it should be. Once you know how to do it though, it's easy to remember.

Vorteile

Being able to edit long-form interviews (podcast or film) was painful before Descript. It took hours to sift through the recording and cut / piece together a final cut. Descript takes away the cumbersome nature of editing completely.

Nachteile

The Sequence feature is still a mystery to me. I'm not sure why there is a composition and a sequence option, but I do see the difference. I think it would make more sense to have them combined. The sequence feature has a long way to go - normally I just export the composition into Final Cut Pro when I need to add titles or broll.

Simply, the easiest, most effective and efficient podcast editing tool on the market.

No iOS interface or app. It would be a perfect ten star rating experience if so.

The screen recording feature needs work. Every time I use it I have issues. It would also be nice to upload my audio and it not be touched. Sometimes I have already run it through leveling and such and I have to do it over again after export because it lowers the volume.

This software is kinda in a class of its own. Transcription, video, audio, collaboration software all in one and a very easy to use! Being able to edit the transcript OR the wave forms is huge for podcast editing

It can be finicky sometimes but when I've needed to go to support, they're fast, responsive, and very knowledgeable!

As a podcast host and producer, Descript has been easy to integrate into my workflow, recording directly into the app, letting it automatically transcribe, and then being able to edit pieces or the whole thing with a WYSIWYG interface. It's so easy, I'm quickly taking out "Ums" or adding in pauses or cleaning up pieces.

Nachteile

The volume edits only let you amplify or reduce within an entire section so I'm waiting on more nuanced features so I don't have to go back into Audacity or Garage Band for more sophisticated but minor editing.

I love the way Descript quickly analyzes spoken-word audio, and provides lightning-fast search to time-stamped words and syllables.

I wish the AI were good enough to automatically recreate typed words based on analysis of a half hour or so of recorded material containing arbitrary content.

I love how Descript is like editing a word document. While standard editing involves complicated listening and painstaking effort, Descript is effortless. One guest once asked me to edit out his "ums" and "uhs" and offered to rerecord if it was too much work. With Descript, all I had to do was click a button.

Nachteile

Descript is fairly expensive, especially considering how much free software there is online. There are also limited transcription hours which can be frustrating.

Descript makes editing my weekly podcast a pleasure. I love the features. It does a great job and even becomes intuitive to use in time.

I think the overdub feature needs to be improved. Also, I haven't really been able to figure out how to edit videos yet.

I really like having the transcript to make navigation of the audio file much easier. It is also super helpful in identifying editing points. I also appreciate how easy it is to edit individual tracks within the larger audio project and easily drag-and-drop files.

Nachteile

I was brand new to podcast and audio editing, which is why I chose Descript. I needed to do outside research for advice about audio levels and how to adjust them. It also took some trial and error to figure out the best way to normalize levels. Generally I have found the tutorials and help forums moderately helpful, but hard to search for certain terms.

Limited automated editing. Would be great if certain things could be autocorrect like the spelling of a name or of the show title. Also thought it would be useful to be able to put marker where you want time stamp and then with click it would auto gen show highlights. There’s no affiliate program.
