Definitely a good business solution
Overall the decision to go with CF has been very positive. It has definitely made handling the large volume of customers much easier. The automated parts, like guest confirmations, has been time saving for sure. We do find the product set up with dates and times to be rather confusing and almost always involves support emails to get us sorted out. It would be great if this could be more intuitive. Also the option to handle retail items would be a huge asset. The only real negative is that I can't hide my financial reports from the front line staff. If I restrict this access it also restricts the reports they need to cash out at days end. I would consider switching off of CF if I was made an offer by a similar company who offers this feature. (I simply haven't looked yet, but plan to do a system review in the fall). Overall the support and features are worth the very reasonable price for what we find to be a stable system.

-lacks basics like being able to hide financial reports from front line staff.
-can't return partial funds to a credit card, must return full amount charged
-managing AR/AP payments is confusing and a huge hassle
-no way to visually separate products by time on the dashboard calendar (i.e.: afternoon tour from morning tour, etc, based on start time)

They kept asking me to write a review, so here it is!
They failed to quickly appreciate my needs and advise me as to whether I could use the system. I wasted a lot of time trying to make it work, after which they finally advised me to try another system... I wasn't trying to do anything complex. Any system worth its salt, beyond an appointment management system, should be able to handle my needs. I'm sure if you only ant to operate single day activities without much in the way of resource management, then Checkfrotn will do an OK job.
Vorteile
On paper, it seemed like a good option, good value for money without the (IMHO crazy) expectations for customers or tour operators to pay high (6%) commission fees.
Nachteile
It did not have the core functionality or flexibility to allow me to do (i) multi-day tours and (ii) resource management to automatically manage seats and minibus availability. I considfered this to be a very basic need for my small tour guiding business (we only operate one vehicle and one tour at a time).

Good for small businesses
It's pretty easy to work with once you get used to the terminology used in the setup.
Vorteile
The pricing is great. Their support is great.
Nachteile
Lack of commissionable rate pricing for travel trade. Lack of proper accounting audit trail.

Good value
I use checkfront to manage my calendar for tours. My life is made much easier allowing clients to book their own tours on their own time and having all tours located on one calendar in real time.
Vorteile
I like the fixed costs, the ability to customize, and the ability to make quick changes on my own.
Nachteile
The many layers of customization make it difficult at times to figure out why a tour is open or not open for booking. Many times I can't get the software to do exactly what I'd like but rarely is it impossible to approximate.

Vorteile
The software provides a wide range of booking and reservation features. It's a comprehensive solution for hospitality businesses. The price is reasonable, too.
Nachteile
The instructions for the SSL certificate set up were very confusing, and the website templates would benefit from more customization options.

Vorteile
Set up special closure days & times for our application. Customer service/tech support was superb!
Nachteile
Found it a bit confusing...create an item, create an item to "turn off" dates, create another item to "turn it back on".

Lots of Customizable Features - Tricky to Start Using
Seems great for experienced users, but that's not me.
Vorteile
For someone willing to dive and and fully commit to this software, I suppose it may offer enough features to accommodate the learning curve.
Nachteile
There is a steep learning curve for those like me that are looking for something relatively simple in installation and execution. In testing this product out to use for hourly rentals, I found it just too tricky to get going. Too many features to adjust and label for my overly-simple taste.

Amazing customer support, comprehensive package
Extremely versatile and customisable package.
Vorteile
Versatility you can get almost anything set-up the way you would like. Your pages can easily be CSS customised as well for a really great look.
Nachteile
It does take some time to get yourself trained in using it, but there is amazing customer support to help you do this.

It's simplicity to use - takes next to no time to get familiar with everything, and if you do have a question it's very easy to find an answer.
Nachteile
Not much! It would be amazing if there was a live-chat function for quick questions rather than emails.

easy to use, best price in the market place, offers channel integration with Airbnb, HomeAway and other listing services, provides a payment engine and ability to use my own merchant account.
