Blackboard is easy to learn and usually intuitively easy for any goal you have. It helps coordinate large teams or classes, and with creative use can be set up to use most styles of teaching (group discussions, online learning, video/attachments, etc).

Nachteile

My concerns with Blackboard are at the philosophical level. From the way it is systematically set up, you can tell that it uses some outdated methods of teaching. Use as a student can feel oppressive, with students too easily shut down and overruled and the general aesthetic vibe being a bit darker and more confined than examples such as Canvas.

Platform organization, accessibility (accessible on mobile devices), and also ensures a safe and protected learning environment.

The cost of the platform compared to other learning platforms. Also, complexity when first exposed to it

Blackboard is a great tool for communicating with students, distributing course materials, and recording student grades. The "one-stop shopping" approach makes it easy for professors to stay organized in each class, and it also makes it easy for students to stay organized. When used well, Blackboard allows you to do everything from communicating with students to uploading assignment sheets to sending class announcements.

As a writing professor, I especially appreciate the SafeAssign feature that checks student assignments for plagiarism. Once I started requiring my students to use SafeAssign, I found that plagiarism attempts dropped off significantly. (So did attempts to recycle papers from one course to another.) In addition, SafeAssign saves me a lot of leg work when students DO plagiarize -- it flags the suspect text as well as the source, so I don't have to hunt it down myself.

Nachteile

For me, Blackboard wasn't intuitive to learn. Even after 7 years of using it nearly ever day during the semester, I had some challenges making it do what I wanted it to do. I often spent far more time than I should have trying to customize things for my courses. But, as long as I stuck to the basic features -- which are also the ones I personally found most useful/beneficial -- Blackboard was a great tool for organizing my courses and keeping students on track.

The big scale design of the platform is ideal to have all your academic needs in one. Access to a combine calendar allowing for easy visualization of homeworks, projects and tasks. Easy view of currents classes and course materials. With the years of experience this platform is reliable and complete.

Nachteile

Even though the complexity is robust, sometimes it can be overwhelming for students and ease of access across the platform is not the best compared to other market competitors.

It is a system for Educators and learners but not the business community.

Unlike Moodle, Blackboard has not spread to other sectors of learning like businesses and non-profits.

Blackboard Learn is a great tool to manage your academic career and it has helped me a great deal especially during the pandemic because I could attend my lessons online. You can literally access everything on your portal with features such as communication and notification features. It is easy to use and provides you with everything you need.

In the beginning the software would kick me out as I was attending classes and it happened a few times. Otherwise I don't have any problems with the software.

Navigating between courses and links was easy and intuitive.

The interface was clunky and a little old school. It was jarring switching from a tab with very streamlined mechanics to Blackboard.

Due dates seem difficult for Instructors to manage. Previous classes show up in due dates and are obstrusively red in color. Frequent errors on Windows 11.

Vorteile

The software offers you a large number of features to manage remote learning and monitor students' progresses. It both supports the upload of material for asynchronous learning and live lessons with the possibility for participants to intervene in the chat or through the mic.

Nachteile

Some features are quite counter-intuitive to manage and you need proper training to get to know all of them, especially regarding asynchronous videos to post for independent study.

Blackboard has everything needed to build or read content. I mostly used it to upload content for my students. The discussion boards and threads were used, and it was easy to keep track of grading. The chat system is great addition and was needed when I was a student.

Other than changing your password every now and then, there wasn't too many issues.

I like that I can see all my classes in one place, as well as access my assignments and grades easily.

Sometimes it would go down for maintenance, but usually those time periods were only a couple of hours to a day at most.

It's reliable. Rarely needed tech support. It's pretty easy to use most of the time. It meets the complex compliance and integration requirements of higher education.

Nachteile

Lack of customizability. Course templates were generic with little flexibility for how it appears. Also with so many versions and always changing things around, it can be frustrating because you're used to a different version. If you're not in an industry with a lot of compliance regulations (privacy, accreditation etc.) I'd stay away and use something lighter and more flexible.

I really like using blackboard. It is a lot better than other programs I've had to learn for school. It is super easy to navigate. You can find all your assignments there. There's a calendar to make when assignments are due. My favorite part I think, is the fact that you can email another student through blackboard. So if you are doing a project and you've never met your partner, or don't have their information, you can email them through blackboard.

There really isn't anything that I don't like about it.

Grading system is too granular. if you use this it makes it too easy for a few bad assignments to tank students grades and gives the instructor more work.
What do you have against independent content. I create videos using Camtasia and Movavi, but its often a fight get them placed where I'd like or even to get them to run in the first place.

All my classes were accessible and I had received my assignments quickly. I could also interact with other students without having their contact number. So, I really appreciated that in case I needed help or to get in contact with group members.

Figuring out what my grade is or was and trying to access the content I have submitted has become more difficult in the last year. If I take a quiz I must take specific steps to see the results so that I can study from it for the test.

I really like that everything that has to do with my studies is gathered in one place. It is super easy to navigate, to upload and share documents, deliver assignments and communicate with other students through the discussion forums.

What I like least is that when I get a message from my professor, I get notified much later than when the message actually were sent.

They should consolidate the updates to where they do it only once every 2 months of so, that way it doesn't take time that the students could be using the system.

Blackboard is an easy to interactive learning management system which allows the user to design educational or training activities. It was extremely easy to implement and can be done on the fly with a learn as you go design method; meaning you do not need to spend hours reading directions.

There are constant updates to the software the requires updates and sometimes it creates minor glitches in your program. However, these bugs are almost always easy to fix or even fix themselves sometimes.

There are not a lot of things that I like about this softaware. It achieves its basic functionality by allowing you to learn online, and submit assignments, but that’s pretty much all that it has going for it.

The system just doesn’t have an intuitive flow like other learning softwares I have used. I also always had difficulty with setting up, and getting off threaded group messages. Overall I was just very relieved when we got off this and switched to a different software.
