Vorteile

What's not to like? Pricing is good, output is fantastic (given my awful input files), the speed of transcription is fantastic. Being able to change input timecode saved my day. Output to PDF. Perfect.

Nachteile

A hundred years from now, language recognition will probably have improved a bit, but technology isn't there yet so I can't expect Sonix to be way ahead in the game compared to others. That said, I tried a few services and Sonix stood out as the best.

Vorteile

The initial trial (which was free and did NOT require any payment information from me in order to try it out), provided more than enough insight into the software's functionality & quality. From the first upload, Sonix provided me with the most quality transcription I'd ever seen. I've tried multiple transcription services in the past; Sonix provided quality results, has an easy to navigate platform, and seamlessly connected with Zoom (my primary method for recording conversations) - an added bonus.

One *very* minor complaint is the speed by which recording is transcribed, but for the quality it’s worth the wait. Other than that small thing, there’s really nothing I dislike about the software, but there are a couple of improvements and/or additions I’d like to see.
First, a direct recording & transcription function built into the Sonix.ai platform (something like a speech to text function). This would be tremendously useful for me – especially if it extended to a mobile app and/or mobile site (to help capture those “organic” / “on the fly” conversations that happen so often throughout the day).
Second (and I’m not sure this is even possible but raising it nonetheless), would be the ability to upload zoom meeting links (to have them transcribed) that I don’t own, but that I have access to.

It is very easy to setup and use with our Zoom accounts. The pay-as-needed feature is perfect for us as sometimes we need it and sometimes we don't. I will spin up a zoom meeting and read a draft blog post or other content. With two clicks, have Sonix transcribe the meeting and I saved time on typing! We also have technical meetings that require specific notes from the meetings. It's nice to not have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription when we won't use it that often.

Nachteile

The entire setup process is very intuitive. It would be great if the transcription picked out the speaker so that when the first speaker is labeled, whenever that person speaks again, the speaker is "guessed" and I would have the ability to adjust as needed. This would save us a lot of time.

The speaker on the uploaded 15 minutes audio file sometimes garbled or slurred his words, and yet Sonix was able to complete a transcription that was 90 % accurate in only 3 min. The audio editor is remarkable - I've never seen anything like it. Each word in the transcription is highlighted perfectly in sync as the audio is played. You can click the mouse in between a few words before the current word and the audio will start again at that point. There is absolutely no lag time after clicking to start the audio playing again - it's immediate!

I have produced transcriptions before using the MPC audio player positioned in a small rectangle of space on the bottom of my screen widened to fit the entire width of the screen to make it easier to move the pointer back a few seconds while checking the accuracy of the transcription using Word. I manually transcribed 6 hours of audio this way years ago. I think it took me 20-25 hours to do this. What a chore!

Now there is Sonix that can transcribe audio in a fraction of the time, with 90+ percent accuracy. And it's so very much easier to just click a few words back to check accuracy, instead of trying to manipulate an audio pointer.

PLUS - not only can I download a Word doc but also a .srt captions file that can be added to the original video to produce a captioned video from the same original transcription! This is the only way I will produce transcriptions from now on, saving so much time and effort!

Just a little more time and I will get completely used to the editor interface. It's already very intuitive, but I just have to increase my "muscle memory" to hit tab to start and stop, click here to start somewhere new, etc. Really, no cons at all to speak of. Can't wait to think of new features for Sonix to add. I'm sure they will be very responsivee to customer requests

Our company was looking for a way to quickly transcribe videos accurately, effectively, and quickly as we were on a time crunch. Sonix came through in a big way. The customer service team is extremely friendly and helpful. The ease of use of the software is straightforward with no major snags that I can remember. Our team was so impressed with how quickly the transcription was done and accurately upon receiving it. Our team went through line by line to check for any inconsistencies and we could not find any. I am beyond impressed with it and can't recommend it enough.

The pricing is a bit confusing but that is a very minor issue if I can even call it that. If they could simplify it then it would be perfect. There is the monthly subscription which gives you access to the transcription services which is billed based on usage. I understand that they do this so you don't pay for a transcription service which you may not need but then you are paying for a subscription already so it would just make sense to pay once for everything. But again, this is a very minor issue that doesn't take away from the terrific service it already provides.

I love the embedded transcript / audio player. I use Sonix to transcribe podcast episodes and embed the transcript on my website. It's way better than a traditional transcription service because visitors to my site can click anywhere in the transcript to hear the audio at exactly that moment. I also get the benefit of the transcript being indexed by Google.

Nachteile

Currently they don't have an integrated human review/editing process. I use a contractor to clean up the transcripts because the AI isn't 100% perfect yet — no AI is at this point that I know of. So it takes a little more effort than a service such as Rev to get the transcript perfect. But the price ends up being the same or less, and the interactive transcript is something you just don't get with other services and makes it worth it.

Sonix is extremely easy to use and provides great value for the money. It speeds the time I need to handle recorded interviews. There's no comparison to what I did prior to Sonix, which was grinding it out on my computer with earbuds on.

Nachteile

Occasionally, but not often, it seems to crash, but no data is lost and all I have to do to fix the system is to return to home page and re-click on the recording. Takes just a few mins but can be irritating.

Quick upload, transcription, and access for fast turnaround and ability to share with other users. Having both a subscription and per/hour pricing model fits my needs. When a project requires a lot of transcription in a short period of time, I switch to the subscription model, and then just use per/hour model for other odds and ends.

Nachteile

Accuracy wasn't great and it took a while to understand the editing features. Overall, though, it met my needs to find and locate specific aspects of the transcription and just focus on those elements. For a full, accurate transcription, another service might be more accurate (but also more expensive)

Easy to set up account and upload audio file. Good range of pricing options including for occasional user. Speed of results. A two hour interview (lapel mics for the 2 speakers) was back to me inside the hour.

Nachteile

The most important bit - very inaccurate typed record. Correcting it would take me much longer than starting and finishing the job myself.

The great thing about SONIX is the interface and transcription are easy and quick. Several of us in different cities needed access to the transcription and it was easy to share.

There really were no cons for us. We used it to transcribe scripts for syndicated radio replay and it was easy.

The uploading of the audio files works fairly quickly, as well as, the transcription. The quality of the transcript is quite high in terms of accuracy of the language and alternating between speakers. Also it really helps to have the timestamps feature.

I think that the voice recognition still has some improvement. It is perfect with English native speakers, but it becomes less accurate with non-native speakers.

This software integrates with Zoom so seamlessly. Shortly after I finish a recording I get an email telling me that the transcription is complete. And there are time stamps with audio clips that make it so easy to repurpose for marketing.

The only thing I can think of is an integration I tried to do that didn't work. It's stuck and I can't figure out how to cancel it.

Wow. I'm so impressed with this product! Since using Sonix.ai I've been able to edit audio transcriptions (for user research interviews) at lightning speed compared to traditional software.

I especially love how intuitive the controls are to pick up - there was literally 0 time spent to learn it! I also really enjoy the ability to dive into the anatomy of the transcript - being able to visualize and break down the files...like automatically detect the software's confidence levels in picking up a word. Makes this an even more powerful tool. Highly recommended - this is one of my favorite arsenal of tools online!

Sometimes it struggles with accents and it was really odd how it would handle male voices differently than female voices - for example the sentence "You might have a tendency to make it last months" spoken by a male might be transcribed as 'You might have a tendency to make it last months" but for a female it would transcribe it as 'You might have a pregnancy to make it last months' - we had a bit of a laugh about that, but it probably had more to do with the speaker's accent than their gender.

I am very impressed at the quality of the transcriptions. I have so far used it in three languages (English, Japanese and French) and they have been the most accurate I have seen around. As a freelancer here in Tokyo I also like the option of buying time by the hour as I don’t always need to transcribe on a regular basis. Also love the time code option

There were a few weird linguistic glitches which needed to be cleaned up later (such as foreign loan words in Japanese - such as diversity and inclusion which came out as totally different words) but that is sort of to expected for automatic transcriptions. (I presume this will improve over time?).

Sonix saved me so much time! I used to have to hire and train students to transcribe my lengthy interviews. Now I just upload to Sonix and within minutes get a full transcript. I love that it recognizes when the speakers switch and even edits a lot of the stutters of language right out.

It would be great if I could use my transcription pedal with this. I think there is a way but it was not easy to figure out (I spent hours and never got it working). I wish there was a better integration with nvivo.

Sonix is one of those rare programs that works so well that I can hardly find any faults with it. It's such a great interface because not only does it turn an MP3 into words on a page, it lets you edit in real time to fix any of the expected glitches the AI missed.

It doesn't render all voices perfectly, requiring some manual editing. I'd be amazed if it was able to do that, but maybe as AI improves.

Not a thing- infact more pros- I LOVE that they added the beta testing to transcribe straight from youtube. Makes it SO much easier when I'm transcribing for my clients- less hand-offs, less downloads on my computer. Please keep this feature.

I love that you can see the closed caption in real time and i am loving how accurate the transcribe was in English and Spanish. I am also loving the ease of using this product especially since i am a first time user. I exported the file to use on other program and it was on point.

I loved that I could break down the transcript every 30 seconds and include timestamps. I also loved that I could listen to the audio as I followed on the transcript to catch any minor typos or mistakes and that I could pick and name the number of voices in my recordings. Also that I could highlight the parts I'd later cut for my podcast.

I liked *everything* about Sonic.ai. I used it for transcribing an oral history recording. It saved a huge amount of time and I was really impressed with how it coped with the recording (taken from a phone call) and the person's strong regional British accent. I liked the interface/UX as a whole, but particularly the way you could edit the draft transcription, with the cursor also working almost as a rewind/playback button.

As a volunteer advocate for students with disabilities and their families, I attend many Individualized Education Plan (IEP) meetings, most of which are recorded by me and the school system. Being able to capture certain parts of the meetings in transcription form is incredibly helpful to show what was actually said in these meetings, especially when meetings occurred months ago and a child’s rights aren’t being met because the school system promised one thing and did another.

I am still on a learning curve using this software, and so far everything I have thought of that would help me I have discovered is already a component of Sonix!

Upload a video. Wait a tiny bit for the magic to happen. And there it is: a rough transcript of the video which you can easily adapt in user friendly interface. The level of transcription is highly accurate, but of course depends on the quality of the sound. And let's not forget, about the pronunciation of the persons talking.
The option to download as doc, srt and other formats makes the rest of the editing flow even faster.
Transcribing video to text could not be more convenient.

An intuitive piece of software that does well with a range of different speakers and accents. It captured voices from all over North America including French speaking Canadians, allowing me to focus on interviewing and giving the speaker the freedom to answer in full. It's easy to amend anything that is not quite right and creates an excellent transcript suitable for an academic audience and research records. It worked best for me with Google Chrome.

Nachteile

Any initial difficulty was solved by moving to Chrome.
Obviously not every word will be true to type, but a surprisingly high percentage landed spot on, well over 95% accurate.

It is easy to use. Its video tutorials are easy to understand and cover almost everything you need to know.

That is cannot handle bilingual or multilingual in a single pass.

I really like the editing functionality. The audio track and the transcribed text are synced up so that it is really easy to follow along the audio and make in-line edits to the transcribed text. The design is really clear, making it easy to being using quickly. In addition to this, it does a very good job of transcribing so you really don't have to make a lot of edits to the transcribed text.

Nachteile

Nothing major comes to mind. It would be nice if it had some integration with third parties. I use my Google Drive for a lot of the work I do and I'd like to be able to pass files directly between Google Drive and Sonix.

It's a game-changer. The time I take now for transcription is a fraction of what I'd spend before. And that I can download different file options based on my needs is really great.

The transcription while not perfect is excellent. The very few mistakes are easy to fix and some would have been made by a human anyway.
The user interface is truly great. Super easy to use. Very clear. It helps you edit your transcription so fast.

Nachteile

The speech is not so well split. Sentences can be split in the middle and paragraphs could be grouped better.
If you want to have subtitles, they offer an automated mode, but I preferred to split the text myself to get better results.

We started created more internal videos and needed a way to transcribe draft videos in order to finalize and approve wording for final videos. We also use it to create a transcript of final videos for proof of compliance in topics covered.

I like the ease of correcting the script in the tool but we did have issues with company specific terminology not being recognized. I haven't tried the dictionary feature to see if it would help. Also, if the speaker is not talking clearly, there are a lot more grammatical errors and misunderstood words.

Compared to the days when I used a cassette recorder and a foot pedal, this software was a very welcome advancement! It was rather simple to figure out and edits were easy. Additionally, just by putting my cursor on a word, the voice recording would start there exactly!

I think Sonix AI is about as advanced as it can be at this point. No doubt it will accommodate more an more dialects and odd speech patterns as time goes on.

The UI was incredibly intuitive. It was very easy to find your place, make corrections as needed, and work with the video/audio without having to scrub a play reel. The AI seems to do a very accurate job of transcribing, even when the speaker is speaking English with an accent.

I love the editing function. Being able to click on a word and have the audio automatically sync with where you've clicked is a very useful feature. I also just really like the user-interface. I've been using this for journalism interviews, and it's been really reliable.

There were some problems with downloading the audio using a firefox browser. I couldn't get it to work. But actually this ended up being a "pro" after all, because it made me realize how awesome the support is at sonix: I emailed them about it and they got back to me with helpful feedback and worked it out right away. Great stuff.
