It's hard for me to even pick! We are coming from a very limited system, so the tagging and search capabilities have been a huge time save for my team. I also love the ability to have photos in multiple albums, the upload links are great, and the system is really easy to navigate.

The portals landing pages are a little limited in design capabilities, but nothing that would make me not want to use the system.

The choice of ‘views’ you get is limited. Some of our products are pens and rulers and the ‘list view’ thumbnails are too small to see what the product looks like. The other views show only cropped images of the product if it is beyond a certain size, making it impossible to see what the product actually is. It also has numerous bugs, such as not being able to display a greyscale image if it is saved as a .psd. Also, another wonderful fact of Canto is its portals, and we have a need to set up a great deal for our distributors. However, each one has to be created manually even though 95% of them are all the same. There should be a template facility to copy.

Sometimes it can be unresponsive when uploading. I've not been particularly impressed by the adobe connector too, its not been useful at all. The portal customization user interface could also do with some work - it is really not very clear on how to change colours, move titles, get rid of unwanted buttons, etc. I love the feature and its what helped initially sell the product, but it could really do with UI improvements. It would also be great to not have the chequered background on album covers for vector images - we use them as covers and I don't want to clog up the album with a custom made icon in the album.

The flexibility of deployment and implementation was paramount for our organization, as we ended up hosting the solution on premise due to our large file sizes. We love how the metadata is written back to the asset. Additionally, the various ways to access the assets through the web, through apps or through a desktop client made the user adoption go very smoothly.

Nachteile

Customizing the software during the installation and implementation phase was more time consuming than we had anticipated and with the new releases of software and portals we have encountered some delays and hiccups (we are working through them). Out of the "box" reporting is significantly lacking compared to the other options, but you can buy a 3rd party addin for that.

The three major items that drove us to choose Canto as our DAM were the friendly and effective customer service, their ease of setup and customization, and their constant drive to update and make their software better. Both our account manager and the Canto IT team are quick to respond and always willing to do what is needed to help us achieve what we need.

Nachteile

We had some issues early on in the setup/implementation phase as we didn't feel like we were provided with adiquate information as to what was needed for our trainings. However, once we got into the process things became more clear and everything went smoothly.

The part that I like the most about Canto was the ease of getting started. After watching a webinar and an initial training session for the admin area, I was able to set up and customize our DAM immediately. The additional training for users was great as well. But the software is very user friendly and easy to use overall. Customer service is outstanding also.

Some of the more advanced features (portal creation and integrations with design programs) aren't as clearly explained or touched on in initial trainings.

Canto me parece una herramienta muy interesanta, su interfaz es fácil de usar. Además, tengo un espacio muy amplio para subir archivos como fotos, videos, documentos, etc, administrarlos y comparirlos entre compañeros de trabajo y clientes. Tiene un excelente sistema de etiquetado inteligente AI para agregar etiquetas a sus fotos de forma automática.

La herramienta es muy interesante, aunque aun existen puntos a mejorar, como una mejor organización y filtrado de archivos que sea eficiente y rápida. Pero sin duda Canto va por buen camino.

Canto's user-friendly interface allows for an easy, intuitive platform to host, organize, and share all of our digital assets. Having something that is so intuitive puts all team members at ease, and increases their implementation of the platform in their day-to-day work.

Nachteile

Canto divides its users between three levels: Admin, Collaborator, and Consumer. There is very little that you can't do in Canto. A fully customizable experience for Administrative and Collaborator level users means a great deal of your DAM needs are met.

I do feel that the Consumer-level experience can be expanded further, for example: with regards to facial recognition, a Consumer-level user is more than capable of identifying faces within a photograph, but the current constraints of the consumer level does not allow for this level of data input. Overall, this dynamic spark of the Canto platform is sometimes lost at the Consumer-level.

Vorteile

Interface is very intuitive. There is a really good balance between having a turnkey solution and being able to customize things. Custom tags and multiple ways of tagging assets was my biggest priority. There were a few solutions that provided more customization, but would've required more oversight as well. Our small team didn't have the bandwidth for that.

Ability to create portals and upload links has been a gamechanger for us in asset distribution and collection. Just hosted a large community fundraiser. We gave each photographer an upload link with the option of some quick tags. We had thousands of images tagged and uploaded into the platform effortlessly. This used to be very time consuming for us.

Nachteile

Facial recognition is pretty weak. They are the larger customer of AWS facial recognition tool. If Canto switched to Google's tool, I feel it'd be much more reliable and function the way it's intended to. As of now, we just opt not to use it.

Support could do a better job at recognizing the shortcomings of their product and recommending product enhancements. I often have to request multiple times for something to be an enhancement. I haven't had any follow-up yet, so not sure if they're going to implement things though.

Canto has been easy to use and easy to get up and running. The simplicity of having all of our images in one place have been astronomical. The amount of time spent wasted looking for marketing images has been eliminated completely. That was our main purpose for selecting a DAM platform.

Nachteile

The only bad thing I can say was our onboarding tech wasn't really the greatest. Her training was not great. She was good at keeping her meetings and the scheduling, but when she was on, she had a hard time keeping track of where she was at with training. There was some wasted time. there.

Keyword tagging and album features are great and make organization so much more manageable for very large media libraries. The features offered are extensive and very comprehensive. Search filters also help users find specific files faster.

Nachteile

– The number of features presented all at once can be overwhelming. The home screen displays too much information, icons, and files all at once.

– Multiple iterations of a design or photo file get repetitive when scrolling—A feature to identify those very similar files, then group + collapse them together would be an improvement.

– Features can be easy to miss/forget with such an extensive system.

- Shortcut options aren't available for the most performed actions for individual users (or organizations)

- Downloads could be easier, without the extra popup screen—an option for one-click downloads.

Where traditional file explorers used natively in Windows and Mac fall short is when you have files that aren’t linear—they are best found by searching for them through multiple different routes. File explorers do not allow for that, and instead rely on user memory to find the correct folder and drill down into the correct location. Finding photo’s or videos when you have a large library, especially when many of the assets are ones you didn’t take, becomes almost impossible without a tool of some kind. Canto swoops in and allows users to ditch the folder method of organization and instead rely on keywords, tags, and other metadata to quickly search and find what you need.

Nachteile

Canto's different method of organization and searching means that you have to diligently fill in every tag or missing piece of information for every asset you upload into the system; if you’re looking into getting Canto, that likely means you have thousands or more files that you now need to individually update. On top of that, certain fields and UI choices feel a bit clunky, which hurts the most when it bogs down the uploading process.

Canto hit the nail on the head for our company. We really needed a DAM system that was visual, organized and useful for our B2B business. We were in need of meta tag search capability, allowing images to live in many places at once, and a place to store valuable information like descriptions about our assets. Canto does all these and so much more.

Canto also has amazing customer service and has always been extremely helpful with answering our questions.

Nachteile

The mass uploader app did not go over well for us. We uploaded everything in bulk thinking it would be faster but we then had to go back and organize everything, which took an extremely long time. In retrospect, we wish we just uploaded everything in batches so we could have entered all the meta information in at the same time.

Portals are the feature that has transformed the way our Client collaborates with external partners. Rather than spend time transferring assets to and from, the Client is able to post and receive assets through portals and upload links, liberating their time to focus on creative, value-added work.

Nachteile

There are fewer project management-related features in Canto than in some other products. The inability to assign tasks, for example, is absent from Canto at this time.

Very helpful software for our Interior Design firm! Everything in one place and easy to organize - especially with the auto tagging feature! I don't know what we'd do without it!

Nachteile

There is definitely a learning curve with using the albums - they can be a bit confusing when beginning. Providing some tutorials would be greatly appreciated for new employees learning this!

Canto is very user friendly. I love that you can search for content and easily find what you're looking for in a matter of seconds. The reports are also very detailed and helpful to admins.

One missing feature I wish Canto had is to make it possible to delete an asset from a share link. Currently I have found that the only way to delete something from a share link is to completely delete the asset from the main library. It would be amazing if we had this feature!

Tagging images is our favorite feature, we love how easy it is to search and find images. The overall folder structure and visual representation of your images makes usage simple for our employees around the world. We also love that we are able to add as many consumers to the platform as we want without having to pay for more users, that sets Canto apart from a lot of DAM systems.

Nachteile

We primarily use canto for images, however when we do upload documents it would be great it they were displayed more visually.

Vorteile

Flight is easy to use and has many options for all levels of use. We were able to quickly upload thousands of photos, plus organize and tag them so in the future we can locate what we need quickly. Another wonderful feature if you are looking for a large number of photos is to save what you like to a custom folder and download them all at once.

Nachteile

Wish Flight had facial recognition for tagging. We have thousands of photos to tag and this feature could help identify people and save hours and hours of time.

Canto is easy to learn and quick to use daily. With files and albums, everything stays organized. Tags and keywords makes searching for a file quick and easy. Plus, sharing files doesn't require others to have a Canto login and doesn't require me to download the file to send in an email.

Nachteile

Getting used to the keywords and tags when searching takes a little time, but once you start using it daily, it becomes a breeze.

We started using Canto as an option to share within our company so that everyone had access to pull assets. Prior to Canto we had 1-2 people that could actually find pieces within our server so they spend a ton of time just finding things for people, with Canto in place and all of the metadata features they're able to find what they need most of the time and have freed up those other people to work on bigger processes and pieces within the company that showing impact versus spending so much of their time digging to find assets for others.

We have yet to find anything that we would change about Canto - it's truly been a time saver for us.

Canto has made managing our digital assets and sharing across our design team and enterprise far easier than with our previous tools. It automatically makes metadata searchable, and it's pretty easy to import assets from old systems.

Nachteile

I'd like more integration with Adobe Creative Cloud software. There is an InDesign plugin, but similar tools for other programs would be helpful. The organizational structure can be a little clunky and limiting, due to this being a web-based tool.

Awesome asset management tool to collaborate on with coworkers. Whether its within your team or collaborating with other teams, its the best way to keep all of the assets and comments/copy in one place. Before Canto, everything was done over email and messages/assets would be lost. With Canto, things are trackable and always in one place. The searchability function helps save so much time when lookin for specific tasks. love working in Canto!

This is a bit of user error, but when a coworker comments directly to someone else, they need to comment their @name for them to get a notification otherwise you never know they made a comment

That I can upload thousands of files at once with tags and meta data, and then once they are uploaded I type just a single word and find all files needed. Canto makes file finding easy. I can set files as pending or approved so that only the right personel are able to view and approve files. I love the mass upload app, it works great and if you needed to, you could even upload your entire server all at once

Nachteile

The navigation on the left side of the site isn't the best, it feels a unnecessary when there is the ease of typing in a keyword and getting exactly what you're looking for.

Canto is super easy to use and makes on-boarding team members super easy. It has great commenting features that helps us with retouching and approvals. One of my other most favorite features is the edit tool to make one asset live in multiple albums etc.

Nachteile

I wish the interface was a bit more current some of the navigation seems a bit antiquated. For example you can't go back within the canto interface you have to go back on the browser. It is also really sensitive to internet so if you loaded a bunch of sub folders and it refreshes the browser it does not remember where you were.

Price! Overall, the most significant selling factor of Canto when compared to other solutions is the price. It is vastly more affordable while not sacrificing many features.

Nachteile

Feature Scalability. While Canto is much more affordable, it also lacks some extra features that make the other offers so enticing. As a DAM, Canto is very usable. However, if you want to create unique brand pages (like with Bynder), you're somewhat limited with the default style guide pages. You can't get very creative with portal pages, and there's not much you can do outside of the core DAM functionality.

I love that I can have all my files available for search with designated keywords that I choose. Uploading mass quantities of files all at the same time is beyond easy.

Nachteile

The Navigation on the left side of the window is a little clunky, but when I'm just looking for exactly what I need, I can just type in the product name or a keyword and BAM there it is.

Vorteile

I love the fact that I can easily access images approved for use by my company for marketing purposes. I'm a remote worker, so being able to use Flight makes it so much easier to get what I need quickly. I also love the comments feature - that way I can comment where and when I've used a picture.

Nachteile

I wish I could open the images in a new tab, while keeping the list of thumbnails open in a separate tab. Looking at the larger pictures would be easier this way, and then I wouldn't have to go back and scroll though the thumbnails again if it wasn't the image I wanted to use.

Canto Support team is always ready to fulfill our improvement requests and customized integrations. Also workspaces are very helpful when you work with your creative agency and you need another step before moving all the new assets into the main library. Value for money.

Workflow can be improved and project/campaign tool is still to be properly developed.

You can configure the system anyway you like. So you can organize your assets that fits your organization the best. It is so easy to select one or more, generate a link and send it to a nonuser which is huge! The guest upload feature for letting people outside of your user group to send you files and upload them in full resolution. Having the ability to have a temporary selection board to pull assets together for temporary use is awesome. You can create external portals for grouping assets for external presentation to others.

Nachteile

The performance is not as good as it should be. When you create a portal the changes take a long time to load. The UI is not modern. The interface feels a lot like a file browser, which is familiar but dated for browsing through hundreds or thousands of assets. Web upload via Safari is not reliable but at least there is a OS X app to upload through which works well.

I love how easy it is to search for specific content. Our company uses project photos for many types of content, and it's so easy to lose the images/videos we want on our company's network. With Canto we are intentional about tagging our photos and videos so users can easily find what they're looking for without hours of digging through files!

Nachteile

It can take some time to upload content. We went through a multi-month push to get as much content on the system as we could (more than 14,000 items) and batch uploads were tough. Either the tags and descriptions would be off or not show up at all, or it would add the wrong information. After we discovered these issues it was no problem finishing it up.

Canto's search features and tagging are the most essential pieces to easy use. The overall system's rollout across our company has been seamless, as Canto's support team is consistently responsive with questions or concerns.

When uploading many photos at once, tagging can lag or when going through many photos at once on the application, it can be slow as it processes all the images, graphics, etc.

Flight by Canto makes storing, organizing, and sharing pictures, videos, and documents fast and easy. I love the folder/album structure, diverse sharing options, the tagging & search feature, and all the hidden tools I am constantly discovering..

After using Flight by Canto to upload, share, and organize assets for almost 6 months, the only thing I came across that I dislike is the download feature that zips files instead of downloading them individually.

Canto is advertised as easy to use for designers, and it is terrible. We have two designers that will work in files and we cannot view the photos that each other put in the files through the Canto Connector in Adobe. The extension always disappears from our extensions, and it has to be cleared out of our computer which leaves all of our documents with missing links.

This software is easy to use, both from the upload side of things and from the finding and download side of things. It is super easy to share with coworkers and partners.

The only thing I can say about the software that could be improved is the bulk upload feature. It is easy to use once you figure out how to do it.

Canto has great folder and organizational structure that keeps everything easy to navigate. You can set permissions on who can/can't see the folder, create outward-facing folders and public links, and easily share all of it. There's a templating function that is really great as well that helps us stay on brand.

Nachteile

Some of the interface feels a little clunky/non-intuitive. Especially for the templating portion, the creation/upload of templates doesn't feel very intuitive. It's an easy process, but you do have to do it a few times to get the hang of it. I have been told from the admins on the account that creating the outward-facing links and albums is a little clunky as well, but once it's set up, it's easy to share and add to.

I use Flight for work at a hotel marketing company, and I love Flight's differentiation between folders and galleries, and the smart options for quickly searching and pulling images.

I wish that I could quickly create and send permanent links for entire folders, instead of the requirement to create links gallery by gallery.

Canto put our photos into the hands of the designers very quickly. The photo selection process was a very time-consuming task, with a very high level of specific domain knowledge needed to even find a photo on the network drive.

Canto's public portal system has enabled us to very quickly build "sets" of photos and distribute them to the field staff that needs them.

The templating system has been absolute gold for distributing customizable images for locized social media campaigns.

Nachteile

We have struggled to find a way to add instructions or "how to use the files in this portal" without resorting to adding a ReadMe file.
