Our daycare provider uses Brightwheel to generate weekly invoices and solicit payment for services. The service is simple and easy to navigate. It has been especially useful for auto-generating reports that can be used for FSA reimbursement and tax purposes when claiming dependent care costs on our taxes.

Nachteile

The interface is rather austere; the simplicity is beneficial and easy to navigate, but this can come at the cost of limited functionality. However, it serves our purposes as a schedule and invoice tool.

Vorteile

The activities. I teach in a toddler classroom so it’s wonderful to mark diapers, potty training options, etc.
it’s great having many options there.

Nachteile

No connections btwn families. It is not social to other families within our classroom. No main bulletin page that all can chat or comment...Like a larger classroom umbrella. Doesn’t unify the class at all. A main classroom big umbrella page would be ideal to post a pic of a flyer, newsletter, etc.

Also we cannot see if families are reading or checking the info/pics we post.
No idea who is using and who isn’t.

Posting a note can happen in like three ways. With multiple teachers in a classroom (like me in a toddler class with two teachers), and multiple teachers in a school posting notes differently, it’s confusing and inconsistent. Should be more crisp.

Lastly, when you click a child to add activity... then you go to (for example) add photos.. the child you are adding to isn’t show anywhere anymore (like a name up top to remind you that you are inside JOHNNY’s brightwheel). We are very busy and a minute might go by, then you have no clue who you were adding photos to... it’s frautrating. Constantly logging backwards to see Oh Yes I’m Inside Johnny’s Brightwheel Photo Activity.

I love getting real time updates on what my sons doing. I’m able to keep track of what he’s eating there and track his progress with any challenges he’s having. Like potty training:) I can receive photos personal messages from the staff. Keep track of billing and make payments. Just can’t say enough good! I’ve also used this app on the other side as a assistant teacher in a preschool. The ease of putting in activities is awesome we are usually really busy and don’t have much time to be messing around so this app and all of its pre sets are amazing! Couldn’t do it without brightwheel!

Nachteile

As with any software I’ve used it took a little while to get used to it, not really a con on their part. I like all the how to videos so if I am having trouble I can find answers easily. When I did have a question I couldn’t find the answer to customer support emailed me back in a very timely manner. Whoops this is all positives, can’t help it. When you find something good, you find something good :)

I like that I can take attendance, reach parents with easy, and post pictures as a class or for a single student for the parents to see. I also like how simple the app is which makes learning it use it even easier.

Nachteile

I do not like the fact that I am unable to see or print a monthly attendance sheet for my class. I also don’t like that I can’t send a picture with a caption all in one.

I love that I can communicate with families in real time about their child. I also appreciate that I can see when parents have seen a message I send.

I cannot tell when parents, or if they, see the information on development, activities, and notes. I would like to see if any have been "read" or if they "like" what they see.

I wish we could move students between rooms in the app itself, because at the end of the day rooms have to condense, and it would be a lot more convient if I didn't have to switch between rooms when logging stuff. Also it'd be nice if teachers could message each other in the app or leave notes.

I like the ease of clocking kids in and out and letting the parents know what their kids are doing. As a parent using the app also it’s nice to get pictures from my child’s school day

As a teacher I wish the room ratios were available for us to see so we didn’t have to call or message each other in the afternoon

I love being able to stay updated on my children's schedules at their daycare. They are always so surprised and excited when I ask them specific about their day that I was able to see through the app.

The information that you see if up to the class teacher, we've head teachers that share a lot and some teachers that don't share much. I love when we have teachers that share lots of photos and videos with us.

I like the software’s set-up. I also like how accessible it is to families and teachers. It allows for almost immediate communication between families and teachers using the app.

The check-in kiosk is not the first thing parents see. Parents have to click on multiple pages to find the check-in.

Easy to use, parents enjoy seeing their childre, videos, pictures, messaging.

When one parent sends a message to the teacher, all class teachers will get notifications instead of the messages being private.

When uploading a photo of the children doing activities, if we press on "Custom" in order to select the milestones that we are trying to reach during this activity, it will only let us uplad 1 picture. We would like to upload numerous pictures under the "Custom" tab.

It gives daily updates of child’s activities with photos. You can also message the daycare and get updates.

It doesn’t tell who messaged you back at the daycare. It would be good if the message had a name of who responded.

From a directors standpoint, I don’t like that a teacher can’t be a parent on brightwheel and that a parent can’t be a teacher. It makes things complicated.

This app offers exceptional communication between academic centers and parents/students. Certainly best in early childhood centers with private photo sharing more secure than social media and mass emails.

The account management editing is a bit clunky, especially the invoicing section. Image sharing also causes some trouble that requires the app to be turned off and back on.
