ABBYY Fine reader PDF is bit pricey among other PDF Editors.Sometimes it freeze during loading Large Documents.

The suite of features is far more expansive than my other PDF related products. The document management, document conversion, digital signatures, and the giant array of supported file types made this an easy choice for me. Especially when I started using it and realized that the UI was intuitive and top notch!

Nachteile

There is not a lot I dislike about it. I think the only part that was a little difficult was getting the digital signature process set up how I wanted it to be in my workflow. It was the only area in the application that I really had to do some looking up to see how to get the most out of it.

An excellent tool for research, OCR makes it easier for blind people to access documents by activating Word and PDF read-aloud tools. This is essential for consulting large amounts of text at university as well.

When the source images are not of high quality, OCR fails, so it is necessary to edit by hand. This happens especially with old texts, with strange fonts, or with texts that have been highlighted.

Output to Excel (tables are really not fully detected, even text within cells, with a lot of work to do in the end) and Word (every text appear converted in annoying frames, difficult to remove or manage at all) mostly have to be really improved to be the best.
OCR must be improved very much. You have bad result if you want to recognize document in Greek (most part of diacritics are not well detected) and, with Hebrew, is literally a worst situation (you have not vowels and all diacritics). If you try to do by yourself, using custom OCR training, it's a very long journey and you don't even get a good result, and many times it's even not so clear if you are using your custom training set or not and even is really not clear why you cannot use one only feature to perform "verify" and "ocr training" in one only function/feature/action.

This is an amazing piece of software for handling large amount of scanned documents. When it's working it's probably 5x-10x faster than Adobe Acrobat DC in recognizing text. Customer support is also very responsive.

It often runs out of memory on larger documents, regardless of how much free memory your PC has. This usually happening above 1,000 pages. I think the issue is that this is a 32bit software and cant address memory of over 4GB, but somehow Adobe could manage the same on 32bit (but of course Adobe is much slower). This could be quite annoying when you scanned in 1000+ pages and unable to save the file, not fun starting it again the scanning. We have tried the tips from customer support but it wont help.
The workaround is to scan smaller documents and use Acrobat or similar to combine them.
Basically you need both Acrobat and Finereader for a good setup, what is a shame cause otherwise Finereader is really great.

I was very surprised to see how well it could extract text from pictures of magazines (multiple columns, images, text boxes…). I particularly liked the feature where you can draw the shape on top of the picture to indicate where is the text, where are images or other objects. From there, you have your editable text pretty easily.

it is a paid license, but it worths if you find yourself constantly transforming paper into digital documents that must be accessible on the web.

I bought Abbyy to use as an OCR for volunteer work but it turned out to be so much more. It’s become my default PDF viewer as well. I love the ability to add and delete pages to any PDF.

Straightforward to purchase and download . Once document scanning activated easy to call up Word formatted result. Especially when scanning old typescript on original documents (1950s) essential for user to check that words have transposed exactly as sometimes they do not because of typeface quality on original document(s).

Usage all fairly straightforward though I have no comparator - this is the first scan and convert software I have used . Perhaps a little cheaper to purchase in future ? Third World countries often rely on typewritten historical documents for many purposes and a cheaper version would be a boon there.

I am able to capture my old documents (1980s-90s) and turn them into usable information for current clients. This is a very big time saver for me.

Sometimes the OCR doesn't get all the information accurately. Editing can be difficult and I suspect its because I am not completely familiar with the product, which means that there needs to be an easier way to learn the product.

The ability to extract to Excel was my main requirement. This makes it quite easy although its not perfect. Having said that some of the pdf files were not that clear so I was asking a lot. It is the best I have seen for the price.

I get to used this program since version 6 with really limited set of functions. Now you can scan documents and convert them to almost any available file format. You can even convert and transfer PDFs to any formats.
The software support more than 100 different languages and recognized documents that has two or more languages used.

Version 14 , which is latest one for Fine Reader is amazing. I love this software much and it makes my life much easier

I like that ABBYY Fine reader is an efficient app that I rely on it. The OCR Feature saved my time. It recognizes the text of my scanned documents so there is no need to write my scanned documents from scratch. Also, editing the text is easy.

Nothing is better than a text recognition tool. Everything is easier with ABBYY Fine Reader. I like it because there is no need to worry about scanned documents. The OCR feature will convert my scanned documents to a text document without the need to prepare the document all over again.
