From a maintenance and stability perspective it is rock solid. It is the most reliable application in our extensive software stack.

There are a couple of issues with media uploads in the IOS application that present usability challenges for end users. These are slated to be fixed in upcoming releases but have been on the list for awhile.

We used Zulip intensively for communication during an (academic) hackathon, which worked perfectly. The fine grained options for organising (in streams and topics) makes it easier to follow important discussions (it is easy to get lost in Slack, Zulip works much better in this respect). Also very user friendly interface.

Zulip is free and opensource and works on all platforms (windows, mac, linux, android and ios). It offers all standard chat methods needed for team communication. Communication can be organized through streams and topics and team members can be subsrcibe to these topics and stay in the loop with relevant information. The software is free to use, and you can even host it in your own servers for flexibility. Additional integration is also possible and includes a lot of popular services such as GitHub, Heroku, Zendesk and more. There is a paid plan which is cheap and offers additional features like company branding and 10GB storage per user. Communication can work smoothly as you can stay informed about topics relevant to you and ignore the rest, which can be a lot of messages when you are working in a diverse team.

Nachteile

Overall, there was nothing that was lacking in particular. There are no features like video calling or calendars built in, which might be possible to add via integration but was not tested personally. But Zulip gets the job done if you are only looking for a chat client to communicate in an organized manner.

I like the simple and intuitive messaging interface which keeps me get updated on the latest communication. Configuring notifications as per the convenience is also amazing so that I can get messages instantly. Even the mobile app is extremely smooth and easy to use.

Nachteile

Integrating Zulip with GitHub was quite a challenge. Users will be happy if the Zulip team can publish more information on how to configure Zulip with GitHub.

I really love the main feature of Zulip, which sets it apart from other apps i.e., the thread system. Each stream(similar to Discord 'channel') has a thread for each topic of conversation, so there can be different conversations happening in the same stream simultaneously. I think it saves a lot of headache.

Nachteile

It's not very easy on the eye when you look at it for the first time, and it looks really confusing. Design is also not pretty great (but it's WIP).

We love the topic based conversations! We also use Slack internally, which is great because we are used to it. But Zulip is better for our the community we are building for an open-source project.

The search engine is the poorest part in my opinion. I would expect to have a way to perform an exact search, or search specifically for code.

Zulip is much easier to the customize than other open source discussion systems. It's ideal when your organization needs an open source system and needs to modify the internals, and not just add bots/etc.

Is an amazing instant messaging platform for any software organization. We have done some pretty cool stuff with the api that allows us to use robots to alert our teams of various statuses etc.

Most flexibility in managing and editing posts. The ability to manage threads (Topics) and move messages between Streams is unmatched by competitors.

Mobile doesn't have all features. Would like to be able to move posts from Private to Streams and vice versa.

There is a thing called topics in zulip, which I never saw in any other communication software, it makes almost all work easy like doing some remote work, team communication, finding chat about the topic discussed in past, etc...

UI can be a little confusing for new starting users who switched directly from communication software like WhatsApp and other messengers.
