I've been using After Effects in one incarnation or another for nearly ten years. In that time it has always had two hallmarks that marked it out: precision detail and an eye-watering interface. Let's be clear. After Effects isn't a program you can just dive into. There's a learning curve or better still, a course, to be taken before you'll get the most from it. However, saying that, what it does, it does very well.

After Effects offers high-end production effects when it comes to compositing, motion tracking and virtual studio functionalities. However, time has caught up with its complex interface and with the likes of DaVinci Resolve's Fusion node-based architecture. Now there are other options whereas After Effects. used to be the only horse in town - and faster ones too.

One of the best things about AE is the integration with other products in Adobe. The plugin options are huge and there is an abundant amount of help on the internet to help with how-to's or projects.

The audio functionality could be better. The timeline management is good, but it would be great to bring in a higher level of project management to sort out complex comps.

I liked that I was able to come in and not know anything about how After Effects, and teach myself how to do certain things. I still have a ways to go in learning but I am thankful for being able to apply plugins to help in the meantime.

I did not like how every time I update it, there are glitches that prevent me from finishing my work until I find a work around. For example, the program wouldn't even open after the current update because of a plugin I installed on a previous version. I had to do tons of research before I finally found a way to move parts of the plugin around to even use After Effects.
