It has a lot of functionality this can be taken advantage of...if you know how to use it

unfortunately a lot of the help desk offerings and contextual help modules have not been updated with the software and are largely non existent or not useful

Solid Software functionality, SQL based, easy to import data. They are constantly trying to improve the software, 1-2 upgrades a year.

Nachteile

Poor implementation and customization from their team. Customer support and report writing is overpriced. Desktop program is somewhat old school, 1990.

Ability to track a project from inception to finish and from Project Management to Accounting. Great for job costing

Nachteile

Lack of response time from technical support takes a few days when an important issue must be solved immediately

from an IT standpoint, it is almost impossible to make a correction after you have interfaced and accounting has made a payment.

SQL Server based; decent security options (could be better); Options for user configuration of forms and tables including integration of user tables; Very good support services; Integration with many third party products.

Reliant on Crystal Reports; Expensive; Sensitive data not encrypted at rest; Many security configurations are awkward and require a lot of maintenance.

You have to go to different modules to do certain tasks that doesn't make a lot of sense. ie: Cash receipts are in AR rather than CM. Also, it doesn't get updated often enough to meet the demands of our customer base. ie: I can't email an invoice directly to a customer. I have to find the invoice, export it to email, then send it. I am getting more and more customers who wish to get their invoices sent by email rather than snail mail. Also, reports cannot be easily manipulated to get only what you want on them.

Vorteile

The interface is very intuitive and reasonably easy to use. I also appreciate the flexibility we have to customize changes but that is because we have our own developers in house which makes this simpler.

Nachteile

As intuitive as the interface may be the workflows in some modules are inefficient and should be more frequently reviewed for continuous improvement. There are many great ideas on the ideas bank and in Vantagepoint but I'm not confident that Viewpoint organizes/filters the information efficiently enough to assess changes needed to base framework to maximize the efficiency of future improvements.
The result is new ideas/improvements appear to be 'bolted' on and are not always fully integrated in all areas of the product (where they should be).

I like that it is easy to use after learning the payroll and accounts payable modules. I have been happy with the help I get and like the software more & more.

Nachteile

When I make a mistake putting in Accounts payable and use the wrong batch month, it is a little unforgiving to get the mistake corrected. As I learn it is getting easier.

There seem to be cool things this software is capable of doing, but it's so user unfriendly that it's impossible to access.

Nachteile

I don't know where to start. I have never experienced a software with so many bugs. It constantly has to be restarted because it crashes if there is too much information inputted in one go. Importing is nearly impossible and there doesn't appear to be anyone who can help. When you call they tell you "that's just how it works."
I wish this frustration on no one.

I like the product's flexibility and ease of use. It can be customized to fit a contractor's individual needs.

It has good security to ensure data is only accessed by the people that need to see it.

The available reports that come with the software are great places to start and its relatively easy to customize these to fit an individual company's needs.

Nachteile

A few years ago, you could expect a support call back within 30 minutes; now, it takes days, unless you really let Viewpoint know you need something done NOW. This has been a very disappointing trend.

The ease of making corrections to payroll. The ability to view from the grid and sort information quickly.

Nachteile

There are a lot of boxes within the setup phase that you need to be sure to mark in order for the action to be performed correctly. It is easy to miss sometimes marking them all.

It is Accounting's only financial tool to see the metrics we need to see on jobs without having to get bogged down in the details that our Engineers and PM's can't explain to us in laymen's terms. We created our own customized WIP reports that tie directly to our financial statements, and help us to narrow down what questions we need to ask our PM's on a job's performance related to cost, change orders, status and invoicing to the customer.

Nachteile

Would like the help to be a little more helpful. sometimes I can't find the help I need on my own.

They are always trying to think ahead in what the customer might like. They bring in other companies are doing things that will benefit us.

Nachteile

Sometimes they are moving so fast and try to be part of the next best thing, they they do not fully develop a solution or keep improving it. I have had several issues with implementation of add-ons.

It forces standardization of processes. That isn't a problem with accounting as we can be dictators but it can receive pushback from PM's who may have many different ways of doing something.

Nachteile

For what you pay there should be good manuals that go through the steps to perform tasks.

It has to many capabilities at times. It would be nice to have a "dumbed down" version available. Sometimes it's comprehensiveness is it's downfall.

Some of the document templates need to be more user friendly.

Easy to use and understand screens. Really takes no time to learn input. Movable columns to personalize for your own use.

There are loads of reports in each module that show just a tiny bit of the "picture", it would be nice to have one report showing all of the information.

Vorteile

I like the integration between modules, like Billing and A/R, Subcontracts Ledger and Accounts payable, etc., including document management almost all areas. Vendor is progressive in all phases of management information needs and is proactive in advanced products and changing customer needs.

Nachteile

Software flexibility sometimes leads to confusion for implementation and basic users. The financial reporting product is separate from the main Vista software and I have had difficulty in using it effectively.

The availability of reports. To see data input in various ways to help benefit the company. Clearview is an extremely useful tool to search for frequently encountered problems/error messages. I resolve so many issues by referring to Clearview.

Nachteile

Time waiting on a call back from Customer Support. It generally takes 4-5 days to get a response. Most times it is for a non-critical issue, but would like to be able to move on from the problem more quickly. Especially if not found in Clearview.

It does a lot, there are many reporting features, and it integrates the accounting with the project management.

Nachteile

The customer service is terrible. You cannot call a number and talk to a person. The only option is to submit a ticket on line, and it often takes several hours to get a call back, even if your entire system is down and you are in the middle of an urgent problem with something like payroll.

Vorteile

The most useful feature of this product to me is how easily it pulls in my budgets from Heavy Bid. Also a very nice feature are the many reports that we can use to track our projects. Viewpoint is a great data base and you can easily create custom reports to fit your unique situation.

Nachteile

Cost to complete process is cumbersome. It would be better suited to most users if it we were able to simplify the process and not have to use the time consuming process that is now in place.

It allows more people to access more project information than our previous software and provides many report options. Writing subcontracts directly out of Viewpoint and linking sub billings is a new feature for our company and is very helpful.

Nachteile

I want more information in one spot. I feel like I have to open up multiple windows to get a full summary of the information I am looking for. We need more specific reports created for our company.

Vorteile

Company seems to be progressive in approach and interested in improvements. Overall pleasant experience. Customer service (although not as good as it was) is very attentive.

Nachteile

Cloud service is slow, and updates and progress have lagged behind dates promised. After strong early support, we don't get the same service we used to. Out of the box reporting is lacking relative to other software packages. MFM in general we thought would be more robust and less buggy.

Flexible, multiple configuration options to accommodate many ways of doing things. But that also leads to a heavy footprint and lots of "clutter."

Tech support has gone from good to awful. I used to get timely, accurate answers to questions. Now, if I get a response at all there's only a 50-50 chance it will be the right answer.

Making the product mobile - without requiring the use of the Viewpoint custom cloud solution - would be great.

Vorteile

It is a great way to track all Project cost, documentation, paperwork. Makes it easy for all users to see all aspects of a project in one system. Contracts, Subcontracts, Change Orders, Invoices, Payroll, Equipment, all in one easy to use location. Easy to customize forms.

Nachteile

The system allows emails to be sent right from it. However the tracking of emails does not always work. Not all upgrades are user friendly to custom added fields.

Very easy software to use and I like that you can add modifications/Files, to allow maneuvering around the software a ease.

Nachteile

I work with the Accounts Payable side of things and some of the information that I enter when using a purchase order number is time consuming. We should have the information import when using a purchase order

I like it has vacation and HR modules but wish they would take more information from pr than they do

Customer Service is very good. Software is very flexible and can be used by both small and large companies. Easy to export data to other formats.

Nachteile

Viewpoint is so customer focused that often they make changes for a small group of customers while the majority of the customers like the current application. You can't make everyone happy but there have been some changes that I would have preferred not been made.

Vorteile

Viewpoint is easy to navigate, and great for new training. The support is excellent. They follow through with any issues to make sure you are up to speed and running efficiently.
Each module is similar to use, so once you have a comfort level in one module, you can navigate any module.

Nachteile

Some times the issues can take a few days to get feedback on. Mainly if the issues are not critical or emergency issues.

Vorteile

Customer service is awesome. I can send in an email, and normally get an ANSWER within hours, not just a call back and require me to repeat everything I've indicated in the email. If I have an urgent need, I can call and someone actually answers the phone!

they are adding many new modules that we don't need/want, but we still have to upgrade our version, which sometimes is a pain.

Ease of use, the software is very customizable for your company. I really like the new chat feature. It make it really easy to get quick questions answered.

Support it getting much better at replying to issues but some of the more technical questions still take quite some time to get answered. It's not uncommon for it to take a month to get a response on a technical question.

The product is great! Simple to use, but does amazing things as far as reporting goes :) The vendor is also great to work with, in my experience they have always been quick to offer help and answer questions. Or even fix a bug when one is found.

From what I have been told, sometimes writing reports can be difficult and cumbersome, however, I am not sure if it would be like that no matter who we were using.

They have a very good support team. It is easy to learn. You can break a job down into many sections, drawings and systems etc. on each drawing.

Nachteile

They don't have all of the features that a lot of other programs have. Some of the steps required have way to many steps required. There on line help is not good at all. The pricing that comes with the system is not very accurate.

The vendor is very easy to work with and I love the ease of use of the product.

training - I wish there were easier ways to connect with other contractors who do the same type of work my company does to "compare notes". My business does things very differently than, say, a heavy-highway contractor so getting ideas or sharing tips isn't really helpful or even possible.

To be determined,,,, although we are using parts of the system, not everything is functioning. Perhaps a set up issue, perhaps incompetent staff with my company, but overall not impressed.

Nachteile

The system is not field friendly. Not sure if it was setup incorrectly, or if we purchased the wrong modules. We have spent several months internally and with Viewpoint support trying to get the system to function properly. I need to discuss this with sales and technical. Would like to have Viewpoint come and inventory our system and help ensure we have all the components in place.

Vista does not have good financial reporting capabilities.

As a comprehensive program that includes many departments, there is so much information available, but a cheat sheet on the most used functions have helped tremendously.

It is very difficult to maintain and manage. There are so many separate programs that need to be updated. It would help a LOT if some of the modules could be combined so that the user wouldn't forget that a change to this module needs to be updated in a myriad of other modules.

Well the versatility is a double-edged sword. To have it there are lots of little buttons to push to make one thing happen and this makes it very challenging when you are trying to get things to work a certain way. Also the security setup is extremely complicated

After getting familiar with the software it is user friendly and great for the construction industry. The reports that can be run are professional.

It can take a few times to get familiar with the quirks of each module but after you are familiar it is user friendly.

Viewpoint is very flexible software and they are constantly making improvements to it. The support team is great.

Bugs that do not get fixed for several months that have a large impact. Absolutely horrific implementation team, we wasted a huge amount of money with their implementation folks before giving up and going with a consultant. The so called experts used their own software's help files constantly to figure it out. Viewpoint corporate did not care at all, and never gave us any money back. The management at this company knows the problems that exist, but do not care about the customer.

Updates aren't always fully functional and we have found that we run behind viewpoint's release pace so that any deployment issues are hopefully resolved before we implement.

Project Managment training program. Project Management software functions. Poor designed RFI and Submittal programs. No decent collabaration portal for Architects to particpate in RFI process etc.

Reports are not as useful out of the canned system. Most need to be modified to get data needed. Easier way to access data like a data dump that can be sorted and reviewed would ideal. Often a "pretty" Report is not needed just raw data that can be used for various analysis would be more benefit.

We just went live with Vista by Viewpoint and loving all the features this software has! Our users still have a learning curve, but we see endless possibilities in how the software can down on data entry time and improve efficiency. There is so much integration and reporting available that our old software did not have!

Nachteile

Since the software is so customizable there are no user manuals and guides to help in learning the new system. When searching the knowledge base we are not always easily able to find solutions to our ?'s/issues.

Not sure if it's the need for redundant duplication of setup and data input or the near impossible task of correcting things that were either setup or input wrong.

Nachteile

The setup is unnecessarily poor and inefficient. The consultants lack a basic understanding of construction accounting and they will mess anything up that you ask for help with, and then require more money to fix. Everyday input is tolerable, but anything above that, such as changing a period, removing sales tax, adjusting a unit cost, correcting an invoice that has already been paid, is horrible.

Very little interest in correcting and improving existing modules, the push is always on creating a new one instead of enhancing what they already have.

Support gets back to you very quickly and usually has the answer right away.

Nachteile

Does not generate P&L or Balance sheet. No lookup screen for histories, always have to run a report. Some things don't work if you don't have the correct module.
