Vorteile

Provides a lot of user friendly functionality like auto code generation, code analysis and extensible plugin support. The UI is best among all the JAVA IDE's i have used till this data and doesn't feel boring. Overall its a great tool and has become a sole support to my daily bread.

Nachteile

The biggest con is the price of ultimate edition, too pricy to be used by beginners. Also if someone is starting as a beginner the functionality provided is too much to learn which may not be required. So not advice it to be used by developers who are beginners.

Ease of use: IntelliJ provides best autocomplete suggestions and lint tools I know of. Also after getting used to shortcuts a big part of the work becomes stress free. There is also a lot of information available online both as documentation and discussions.

Nachteile

It may need at least above average PC specs to operate comfortably. Not the lightest IDE for sure.

IntelliJ IDEA is a really powerful IDE and it has many amazing features than other IDEs. What I love in IntelliJ IDEA is how it lets me develop in many different platforms. Code auto-completion and suggesting is really helpful.

Nachteile

User interface takes much time to load than other similar IDEs. Other than that there is nothing to dislike in IntelliJ IDEA.

IDEA is a very fully-featured IDE with fast autocompletion that makes you feel like you're flying while writing Java code. Keyboard shortcuts are sensible and addicting and VCS integration is pretty good but not as good as a dedicated Git client like Tower or GitHub desktop. Debugging and build system is also designed well. Overall, it's probably the best in its class. IDEA isn't just a Java IDE, you can also install plugins for other languages and you'll be able to use features that are in other JetBrains IDEs for those languages, which means that it can also act as a polyglot IDE.

Nachteile

IDEA can be a resource hog (to the point where it's noticeable if you aren't at a workstation or something), but honestly that's kind of the norm for such a full-featured IDE.

For java development, it is the best IDE I have ever used. It has some really cool feature like Gradle build system, Maven project management. One of the feature that I really is the code generation.
Other feature like importing the eclipse project is something really good.

Nachteile

I don't see any cons of this IDE but if you are new to java you shouldn't be using this. As this IDE does, lot of work by itself that you will fail to learn the basic of the language.

Vorteile

IntelliJ makes development stress free, with autocomplete, automating and removing most of the project setup steps. It still keeps all the advanced features if you need to do something specific though.

Nachteile

It consumes a lot of resources and if the project is large it can become a problem. Indexing can take a while.

It has all the functionality that you need in an IDE. I mainly needed the Git and SVN functionality and they functioned seamlessly with our company's own SVN.

It is a huge program since it has all of those aforementioned functionality. This makes it hard to close and reopen because it takes a while to load compared to something like Sublime.

I've been using IntelliJ IDEA for over six months now and it's what I need to complete my production software builds. The features, from the compiler and debugger to the IDE's syntax highlighting, code generation, and refactoring tools, are all top-notch.

I'm not sure what I liked the least about this software. I haven't found anything that I didn't like about it so far.

I've used Intelij for years now after switching from Eclipse. I do java/Groovy development for a living, and this tool makes it a joy. AutoComplete, find, refactor, debugging...its all there. The GIT integration is a life saver. Code formatting, syntax hilighting...it has every feature and more.

Nachteile

I switched from Eclipse and kept the eclipse keystrokes. That was tough for me to convert to the intellij keystrokes. For example, the default keystrokes for formatting a code section is different than on eclipse. The default key shortcuts just didn't make sense to me.

Vorteile

1. It is faster than Vscode when it comes to processing speed
2. Compiling code and packaging for Gradle is inbuilt
3. If you have worked on IntelliJ, you can work with any other IDE
4. Cool dark theme makes you feel like a developer

1. Do not have many plugins as compared to VSCode
2. Does not come integrated with windows terminal, need to configure it manually
3. Ultimate version is the best, but it is very expensive.
4. Too many configurations on the server-side.

IntelliJ IDEA is a great IDE for developing in JAVA, JavaScript, Python and many other languages through the use of extensions. There is great support both online and through JetBrains. The code completion and macros are great time savers.

The annual subscription is a bit pricey for individuals but they do have a community edition that can be used for free for certain types of projects.

I used PHPStorm and WebStorm and the first thing I like the most in both IDEs is intellisense. (Code completion, highlighting, etc)

Best application to develop api, integrate necessary jars easily hasslefree, unit test on premise, debug and auto correction for basic errors is a helping hand. Could be integrated with git and jenkins for easy deployments.

Interface is little clumsy. Could be clean and shown on point. Sometimes search is not as effective as it should be when dealing with bigger codes.

What I love the most about IntelliJ is the autocompletion it has. It understands the structure of your project much better than eclipse. Built in block and multi line editing is also a small feature I love.

The structure sidebar for java files doesn’t allow you to reorder methods which is a minor inconvenience.

Intellij has been the best IDE I've used so far. It is very powerful with features such as autocomplete and short cut keys. There's various community create plugins that is easy to install but best of all the free version has all the critical features for most cases.

Build times can take a while for larger projects and at times there are some wierd IDE errors when building.

The shortcuts for various features, the different plugins and customization for almost everything. Has support for a lot of plugins and languages. The code formatting is easier to use as well. I also have used remote debugging. Features are quite intuitive to find.

Very easy to use, and makes development really enjoyable. Takes away all of the traditional issues you'd face with testing and debugging software in many other IDEs. RubyMine from the IDEA series works particularly well, with its integration with Ruby on Rails.

Nachteile

Because of the way in which IDEA is licensed, you need to license it separately for each language - WebStorm, RubyMine etc - unless you purchase the all products pack. This is slightly frustrating.

- Beware that this company products are on the expensive side

Out of the box experience is great. It's very intuitive to configure themes and syntax format I prefer. The plugin repository is also very extensive. Typescript support is great with different refactoring features.

Nachteile

If you work on different languages, say frontend is Typescript + HTML + CSS and backend is Java, you'll have to purchase Webstorm and IntelliJ licenses which are quite costly.

Typescript has recently improved IDE support in it's native compiler; however, since Webstorm Typescript plugin is built on top of Java, it takes some time to propagate new Typescript language service features to Webstorm.

It provides in-depth coding assistance and efficient error analysis. The smart completion and chain completion features available in IntelliJ IDEA is great for beginners. And also it detects the duplicates in the code. Further, the built-in developer tools such as Version Built tools and Decompilers makes the developers' life easier. Moreover, to add some more features it is that easy to add a new plugin. At last, it has a nice GUI which makes development enjoyable.

It is not as easier to create GUI interface in standalone applications as we create in Netbeans. We should do it by writing some codes.

If I have to say something, I would like a support of Spring into Free Edition. I say this because, for a single developer is expensive in my opinion, but I can understand the effort to create this IDE.

The usability for this product is excellent. In my time developing in Java, this IDE has been the most useful for me. The ability to easily refactor code has been superbly helpful while developing. I am also a big fan of the different presentation options. I personally love the darcula theme, the code pops from the background and makes it very readable.

So many workflow enhancements! I can use keys on the keyboard to shortcut my way to autocompleting all the things, setting break points, simulating a runtime, doing GitHub integration, etc. Pretty much solves a lot of what the modern development environment requires! And it's pretty, which we don't get with a lot of IDEs out there. I feel like they might be the only IDE team that also has a UX team that has actually spent time in the chair of a software developer!

Nachteile

The licensing is a little funny for teams and the way you have to deploy it. Wish that were simpler but it's worth the small amount of pain!

Jet Brains sells software on subscription, but what I love about it is, unlike Adobe, Microsoft, etc after you've paid for a version, you can keep using the version forever, or you can subscribe again to get updates. The subscription prices are also very reasonable.

They also have a Slack channel and have been very responsive anytime I've had an issue.

Nachteile

I love their suite of software, but what I don't love is that they almost have too many choices. There's IntelliJ IDEA, what feels like the main piece of software which is tailored primarily for Java development, then there's Ruby Mine for Ruby development. But you can also do Ruby development in IntelliJ.

I think ideally I'd love to see one piece of software that does ever language very well (thinking back to my days of using Visual Studio). The other option would be completely separate pieces of software for each language, but a very similar, intuitive feel between them. Having multiple options though for one language is just confusing.

One of the very good things about Intelli J is its auto completion feature. It gives you a list of relevant methods and classes applicable in current context. It constantly learns from you when and how we use which packages and methods. It also list don which classes are accessible form current class. It has easy shortcuts compared to it competitors and suggestions are better as it keeps learning from us. UI is also very good.

I did not come across any cons as such. Except that it is memory hungry.

I love this IDE. Never thought I could love software so much but this tool is amazing. Its constantly at the bleeding edge of predictive development. It is super fast, stable, and has so many shortcuts to speed up the development process.

As a person who started out without being savvy with NodeJS or Web Development in general, IntelliJ really helps you out by giving you boilerplate code that you can modify and learn. In my case, I worked with the default jade engine for websites and learnt quite a lot in the process. I moved onto angular, and it was still quite helpful. The biggest help even for a seasoned programmer is the fact that you can installed any missing modules instantly when the compiler finds out it could be missing.

As a student, we also get a free trial for a year, with all the features we could need.

So why are you waiting, go and download this to really pimp out your coding rig.

Nachteile

This software runs a bit too slowly on older devices, I would recommend at least 8 Gb Ram, an SSD and i5+ for optimal performance.
