Vorteile

Its speed and performance as compared to other IDE tools fascinated me to switch to IntelliJ. A rich tool in terms of features and options available.

Nachteile

A steep learning curve to adopt this tool sometime makes this tool not-much-impressive amongst developers. But once a developer becomes familiar to it, it is very hard to make them working with their earlier IDEs.

Ever since i am using the Intellij i am no longer addicted to Eclipse, with lots of varieties of Plugins and theme's this is definetly an Go to product for Any Software developement

Should be Opensource ,currently only community edition is free

I stumbled upon IntelliJ accidentally, however I am grateful I did. They (Jetbrains) make IDE's for Python and Java to name a few products and they are really terrific. IntelliJ (Java) and its Python counterpart Pycharm are my go to IDE's for a number of reasons.

I choose IntelliJ as my Java IDE primarily due to its awesome features that prevent issues down the line. Code autocomplete is an awesome one, results come up quickly and are easy to select. This is great as it prevents any mistakes such as spelling errors in variable names e.t.c. Additionally there is some ongoing error checking that can prevent other errors before you run.

As additional bonuses: The software looks great and feels great in use, it has built in GIT functionality and there are plugins to add language support such as Python or R amongst others.

Nachteile

Sometimes it can be a RAM hog, but this is honestly not that big of a deal especially when compared to other applications which are way worse.

IntelliJ Idea its my best favourite tool where I can practice in coding on Java, it has all you need, plugins , tips, nice debugging option, very quick working, super nice dark theme. Just love it!

Didn't find any negatives in this tool it is so awesome! You can do everything that you want to do with a comfort.

That it's versatile, I'm using this software for like 2+ years and I still don't know all it's options and possibilities, well organized GUI with a lot of panels and different options to view and browse code and files

It's heavy and resource consuming. It also lacks a step-by-step guide which would show the user basic/medium/advanced features of that software. I would be able to do some tasks easier or faster if I would have known about some possibilities that I learned much later.

All of functionalities that it has, it helps a lot when you're coding it creates a methods for you and give to you hints and tips for code, so if you're beginner developer it will help you a lot.
You can import projects from git hub, do commits, pull, push all functions from git directly in the IntelliJ
The structure of the project is so organized and easy to find anything

I'm student and I applied for student license, but the commercial price is really high and it difficult the use for some companies like startups.

Out of the box it seems to have everything you need without having to get tons of plugins like eclipse, to some it may seem bloated but to me it was just right.

I liked the layout of the IDE and of course the syntax highlighting was nice and clear.

Nachteile

It is a bit resource intensive when compiling it sometimes takes up your whole cpu.

On occassion it kinda just stops but does not seem to lose anything seems to be limitation of my computer but not sure yet.

Can be easily customized for any developer needs. Has lots of available integrations and plugins. Also great that products for other languages are based on the same platform and no need to learn the product again after switching.

Nachteile

No easy ways to report a bug. Users have to create account on YouTrack bug tracker first, so some users just stop at account creation step and decide to not report about found bug or problem. Probably, due to this fact lots of small bugs are found with every new release.

Vorteile

It has very good integrations with Git. It gives us got tools to fix merging conflicts when having a collision. Also the UI tool for git is good.

Nachteile

The default formatting of code is not that great. Sometimes the test does not work directly from the IDE and we have to run and fix paths to make them work. This can be improved.

It makes it so easy to do my work: the auto completion, the error detection, the syntax highlighting, the customisation, this is the first tool I install in a new computer

This software runs better if you have a powerful computer: some good ram, hdd and processor. But it is really worthy

IntelliJ is a very very powerful IDE that I have used for Java development and as a text editor for other projects. I have always been a fan of the JetBrains development suite and I have been using them for more than 8 years now. The support for plugins and the various customization options push IntelliJ over the top compared to competitors.

Nachteile

This is not a big deal for me (hasn't stopped me from working) but IntelliJ is very memory intensive. It provides a great experience but I have felt my computer lock up sometimes as it is indexing and doing some background work.

I love that this IDE was so easy to use, especially when working with Java. The software helps users identify errors in their code and try to figure out how to fix these errors. Also, I never had trouble learning how to use IntelliJ IDEA as a beginner coder. Everything was very simple and straightforward. Now I use this IDE all the time for all my Java projects! Additionally, I like the "Tip of the Day" feature it has.

Nachteile

What I like least about this software is that once I've written a code and created the .Java file, I am unable to run the code again in IntelliJ. It's possible that this is just something I haven't figured out how to do yet, but after turning in an assignment, I wasn't able to run the code again later.

Sometime when I open a project I see all packages and dependencies in red . The only was I can fix it is to open an the maven project by importing it from the pom.xml. This in general fix the issue.

This is one of the best IDEs for software development. It's easy to use with keyboard shortcuts, code auto completion and debug options. Also, code coloring is a handy feature to use. Real-time code inspection support for a fast and efficient debugging.

Nachteile

The cost is somewhat high to purchase the product. Also, some update installations are troublesome. It's better to avoid updates if you are in the middle of a high priority project.

What first struck me about IDEA was how polished and feature-packed it was compared to the Java IDEs that I had previously used. The end result was that in cases where my workflow might be slowed halted in other IDEs due to a missing or questionably-placed feature (especially in regards to formatting, surprisingly), I only took a few days to acclimate to IDEA, which was well worth it given how much faster I work now.

The different versions (especially the free Education package) are also very, very appreciated.

It tends to be more resource-intensive than other IDEs, though that's a price worth paying for the quality and sheer power.

It is the best idea which simplifies the coding process and can create a project simply as well as very quick. It has the facility to import external plugins to increase the IntelliJ functionality.

This takes fond of RAM and also cannot use all the features of it else we have to pay for ultimate version.

This app is very friendly and have many options to enable different integration in Java projects, such as Maven and GIT. The user interface is great and allow to use many files at the same time.

As it have many integrations, sometimes it consumes lot of memory RAM, and it takes a little to open. Depending of the project size, the compilation time will be bigger.

It has a TON of features that can be added in. You can pick in choose which features you want to use. It has great color coding. It handles multiple file types in the same project. THere are just so many things that are great about it. Easily the most powerful Java IDE.

Some features can be hard to get working. These are few and far between. One issue I have is when I switch my windows domain password, the git repo password isn't easy to update through the IntelliJ interface.

1. Syntax highlighting is the best tool that is there for the user so that if an error while writing occurs it starts underlining the error part and helps the user to quickly solve the syntax error.
2. Creates a positive environment for coders by providing custom themes to users.
3. Is better for professional coders as it eases the coding experience with various extensions like autosave, debugging tools etc.

Nachteile

1. Not a beginner-friendly code application as it confuses the users with the difficult interface.
2. Extremely expensive premium subscription which makes it unfit for middle-class users.
3. Sometimes popups irritate the users and disturbs them while coding

It is great for test driven development and working with java.
It handles the integration of your code with a Git repository.
Integrates smoothly with Maven to handle dependencies and helping with the library imports.
It handles the code coverage with a click of a button when running your tests.
Easy to refactor code.

Nachteile

My only concern could be that there is not a simple way to set a proxy when you work inside a VPN so that IntelliJ would add that proxy to the Maven settings xml.

Very easy to use. Good debugging features, dark theme supported, provides inbuilt terminal for executing commands. Integrate well with github and other version control system for easy deployments. Better than Eclipse

As a developer who doesn't use java extensively, vscode was enough for me. But when the frequency of using java increased and the need for other programming language support increased, intellij became a good choice. Auto completion, integrated plugins, etc. are very strong feaures of this software.

Nachteile

Software's resource consumption is a little bit heayv compare to the other softwares. It can be a little frustrating to work on older devices, especially those without an SSD.

IDEA works out of the box and their support of educational and opensource projects is truly remarkable. IDEA also has a wide range of plugins that will increase your productivity - both made by them and by the community. Their support for users of other IDEs and editors is also a nice feature to have.

Nachteile

IDEA sometimes gives you false positives erros in languages like Scala, which might be problematic for new users, as they might stop trusting the IDE error messages.

Its all just like windows..graphical user interface. Features like AutoImport,able to execute my tests individually and by groups without having to run from command line,Project structure settings.
The most helpful one & my favorite is VCS which talks to the git repo and makes all the activities look easy(Fetch,Pull,Merge,Commit-able to select individual files & Push).Several windows & the way it displays results

Cannot open two projects in the same window which is never a requirement for me.

I really like everything about Intellij IDEA. It has great smart hints, plugins and themes. You can create your own themes and shortcuts which will improve your development. It has great integration with popular build automation products such as maven.

Nachteile

By its nature, it uses too much RAM. Sometimes it's hint feature confuses and does not show correctly but it happens very rarely.

I use Intellij IDEA for test automation with JAVA. I used both platforms on MAC and Windows machine and by far more away comparing the other IDEs this is a tool help you while you’re typing your code. If you learn shortcuts it even more easy to use.

It is a known issue that most of the IDEs haven' detailed error messages, maybe they can improve this, sometimes the errors are more frustrating.

Every once in a while it will get a weird bug that requires a bit of a lengthy troubleshooting process - but, this happens rarely and support usually helps sort it within 24 to 48 hours.

The IDE is compatible on multiple OS's, is packed with a lot of features and it grows at every update with new supported programming tools. It also includes local file history which saved me a lot of time over the years.

Since it is running on Java, it sometimes lack of performance. Also, dragging file in and out the IDE is sometime not doing what users would be expecting.

It is a fully contained IDE for pretty much any development project out there. It has plugins to expand on itself, and plenty of options to set it out how you like it - even things like a Vi style editor for the source code itself.
It works easily out of the box, and is easy to learn and adapt to. It has a much better layout and ease of use than other common IDEs such as Ecipse and NetBeans.

Nachteile

For personal use, it can be an expensive option. It does however speed up development with the many plugins for it, if the cost can be bared, it is worth it for developers working within a business professionally.

Overall, IntelliJ makes developing in Java extremely easy and convenient. With an amazing debugger and intelli-sense, it becomes very easy to catch and fix bugs that crop up during development.

IntelliJ is, in my opinion, the best IDE available for Java and Scala development.
I was particularly pleased with the refactoring and code analysis features, which truly differentiates it from a simple text editor.
It compares very favorably to Eclipse, in particular from the UX perspective.

JetBrains offers a great Education offer, where any student enrolled in a listed university can use their software for free. This allowed me to get familiar with their Pro platform, even on a small budget.

The many platform plugins supported by IntelliJ makes it the tool of choice for a wide range of languages, including Scala.

Finally, several language-specific editors offered by JetBrains (such as CLion) are built upon the same platform. It makes it very easy to go from one to the other, and continue working in a familiar environment. It is even possible to port some of the preferences, keyboard bindings, etc.

Nachteile

As a full-fledged IDE, IntelliJ is much slower than a simpler editor such as Sublime Text. CPU usage and battery impact make it a poor choice when working on the go.
(This isn't be a problem on a Desktop computer).

I liked how simple and easy to use IntelliJ was. This was one one of the first IDEs I worked with when I first started learning to code. It was recommended to me by a friend, and once I started using it, I stopped using Eclipse and NetBeans. I felt like IntelliJ was easiest for me to figure out and provides clearly errors in code. The software also gives a daily tutorial which is optional.

Nachteile

There isn't really anything to dislike. I guess the only thing I would say is that the "tutorial" popup that comes up as soon as the application opens is a little bit annoying, but really not a big deal at all.

I love the how dynamic the software is when it comes to development, which fastens the code with the autocompletion supporting a lot of programming languages like Java, Lua, JS, Kotlin..., it even handles application runs with Docker, SBT, and task-runners like ANT, Maven, Gradle, etc..

Nachteile

I wish that the Community edition has more features enabled, like the database features.

What I loved the most is when IntelliJ suggested smart edits that resulted in more performant code. In the few instances where I used the suggestion, I did not realize that I was writing code that would result in performance decline. IntelliJ suggested how the code I wrote could be much more performant and it worked correctly!

Nachteile

I have not experienced any difficulties with IntelliJ, the only thing that restrains me from using it fully is that some team members are really reluctant to switch to the tool due to some bad experiences from the past. Since VS Code is fully free, it tends to be the first alternative tool to use instead.

I have been using Intelij IDEA from around 2016. I have switched to Intelij IDEA from another IDE. Actually Intelij IDEA has many features than that. It's advanced editor feature gives users a tool for smooth coding for work with JAVA, CSS and HTML.

IntelliJ Idea has ultimate version. You have to pay for the ultimate version. Ultimate version has more features than the community version. Community version not support for the server like JBOSS.

Need more speed, e.g. often context menu is very slow to open on some folders.
Not so modern icons of IDE and design things.

The interface is quite simple, there is no complexity, you can give your full attention while writing code and the dark mode is very successful.

In general, the code is slow to run, but the running time of a complex and long code and a simple code is almost the same. In other ideas, simple codes run fast, complex and long codes take longer time than intellij.

IntelliJ IDEA is a definitely a top end IDE, with everything you want as a Java developer. It has support for Maven & Gradle as well as hundreds of third party plugins available to download for anything else you might decide you need.

Nachteile

While I love the software, it is pretty heavy on computer resources and running it on a lower end laptop will be a slow experience. It is also expensive compared to free solutions such as Eclipse.
