E2 on premise vs cloud based review

I am a daily E2 admin/user and have been using the E2 On Premise version 15 years. We converted over to the Cloud based version a couple months ago so I'm still discovering.

Vorteile

Cloud based - access the software from anywhere. Administrator's ability to allow knowledgeable users to customize their own reports.

Nachteile

I'm not fond of the fees being based on data collection users. I a plant like ours that can vary and if you hit the threshold of DC users you have to purchase more or play games with your existing DC users. Although all the information from the on premise version is included in the cloud version the navigation on the Cloud based system takes a bit of getting used to. It also seems that extra mouse clicks are required on the cloud version versus the On Premise. Some of the shortcuts are not available on the Cloud version (or at least I haven't found them yet) that used to save me time from bouncing around different screens/menus. Not show stoppers by any means..

Limited functionality

Vorteile

Pretty easy to learn. Support staff are nice and helpful and they always walk me through anything I've mucked up. The program is easy to use, it's not real complicated, more user friendly then some packages out there.

Nachteile

Limited functionality. I came from an Oracle (manufacturing) background and I find getting the information I need out of JobBoss is very frustrating. I wasn't expecting anything close to what I had before but some items seem like they should just be common sense. You cannot run a backlog with rev's for the parts, unless you pay extra. I do accounting as well as customer support and I find it very difficult to pull the information I need in one report so I have to cut and paste. Plus exporting in to Excel the formatting is not great. I have to reformat everything. Lastly, to had an extra person to the users (extra license/seat) is crazy expensive. Almost twice the amount of the maintenance agreement. And if you upgrade, they do everything remotely so you have to do all the stuff on your end - and of course everything you want or need as a cost. On the plus side, the program is pretty easy to learn and navigate. The customer support staff are pleasant and for a small company - I guess the value is okay. It was already here when I came so I don't have much to compare it to. I do know we are not using the functionality the way we should and I wish I could find a consultant locally that could just come sit with me for a couple of hours. Trying to do stuff over the phone or email is time consuming and inefficient and I don't want to pay the cost of flying someone here only to be told I have to pay extra for everything.

Online usability was a game changer

Before having E2 I was keeping paper files of every piece of material that I had on hand. When going back to bill, it was so time-consuming to flip through all of my inventory orders and trying to keep them straight. It also saves a lot of time when quoting with the automatic functions that are built-in.

Vorteile

The online interface that is active was a huge time-saving feature for a small shop like my own. At the end of the day instead of having to finish up all billing or quoting from the day, I could now go home and use the online interface to finish everything up. With young kids and a longer commute, it has made the workday more flexible.

Nachteile

Being a smaller shop, I hardly ever use the shipment function for my orders. It is a step that has to be done to get to the final billing step so it just takes more time than needed to get the invoices out. Very important to larger companies that ship daily and need to track all of their shipping labels and documents.

Controller

Very, very good. I'd been aware of E2 for many years hoping to have an opportunity to use it. When I joined a company that had it in place, about 9 months ago, it met all my expectations. It covers all the vital operational and accounting / financial bases that a make-to-order business requires drawing focus to critical activities and reporting.

Vorteile

Well targeted and designed product specific to the custom, make-to-order manufacturing setting. Software that helps "show the way" rather than "get in the way" (with complexity). Relatively simple, yet powerful. Solid fundamentals. Well conceived and well developed - everything is there. Very intuitive interface, short learning curve. We've used the web product for the past year and the speed is outstanding along with great convenience. Screen driven help and training information are extensive and well done.

Nachteile

A statement of cash flows report should be added to the income statement and balance sheet financial statements.

Good value for small manufacturing business

Has been a good system to run business with.

Vorteile

Relatively simple ERP system. Has most of what you want in a system to manage and operate a business. Not necessary to add bolt-on software. As with any software, keep it clean, up to date and organized and it will provide the appropriate output.

Nachteile

Needs a few items for specific tasks. Should be able to zero out inventory in mass using specific parameters (for a physical inventory). Some screens don't link enough details together ie., Quick view should have invoice, receiver #, PO # all on one screen. Same for orders. Screen should have Cust PO, Job #, Pack list, Invoice #. All for quick "1 screen reference".

Using E3 in a small mfg business

Overall E2 has been a huge improvement for us that has allowed us to increased our profitability, improve quality control metrics, and improve our customer satisfaction.

Vorteile

Before we purchased E2 our outdated database software lacked functionality and flexibility and therefore limited our ability to see what jobs we had running on the shop floor and track their costs up to the minute. E2 has allowed us to set job costs during the estimating phase and then track those costs through the life of the order from start to finish. This has made us more profitable by showing us which jobs we made money on and which ones we didn't.

Nachteile

The scheduling application is far to complex and we have not attempted to use it in the five years or so since we installed E2. I believe if it was setup more like an app on an IPAD that I can click on jobs and move them around on a schedule with my mouse or finger it would make things much easier.

Small Business Looking for Shop Control

Vorteile

Experience: We are a small family owned business that needed to get ISO certified as a requirement by our customer. We did our research and E2 was the best company to offer shop control and offer ISO certification. We have been using E2 since 2012, we have been ISO certified since 2012. We were eager and became ISO certified within 6 months (take a lot of work and dedication to get it done quickly).

Overall E2 has been a great resource for us.

Pros: The software is easy to use, the information that you are able to get from reports is helpful (only as good as the information put in).

Easy for all employees to use with all computer skill levels.

ISO documentation was extremely helpful with becoming ISO certified.

Customer service is always helpful, you always get a real person to help you with your needs.

Nachteile

Software does not allow you to do multiple things at once, it is very simplistic which might be best.

Difficult to customize it to you specific needs, it can be done but there is a cost for that. If you are a start up company this software would be great to get you going with all aspects, if you are an established company you might need to adjust how you do things.

We still do all of our accounting and customer quoting from QuickBooks as that works best for our company.

We do not use E2 for scheduling as we are a fast pace job shop and things change on the fly and difficult to schedule within the software.

To tell the truth...

I started using E2 in 2006 when I began working at Precision Technologies. The software was already installed but it wasn't fully integrated throughout the company. Routers were minimal, no time wanding...just a lot of things that needed to be implemented. I found it extremely easy to get it up and running to where all could benefit from the information collected by E2. Soon we were ready for ISO...and because the software helped to organize our company, that was easy to do!

Vorteile

As a previous user of a competitors software, I must say that the ease of use is extremely important to any company; and I find E2 very user friendly! It's everything you need to know or see at your fingertips.

Nachteile

Our company has transitioned since inception of E2 and now we do an incredible amount of large assemblies and they are on kanban. This is the only area that I can honestly say I wish there was a better way to keep track of stock jobs and inventory. *Small assemblies not on kanban are a piece of cake*

Can't live without it!

When I started working with this company they had already implemented E2 at the basic level. Basically it was used to input jobs, POs, and Quotes. Since then we've incorporated automated triggers for almost every department, setup and run the scheduling feature (replacing an exhausting Excel schedule we had to constantly change), track employee training, quality aspects, and run several reports to show efficiency, profitability, etc.

Vorteile

Most everything. It encompasses all aspects of our manufacturing facility, including machine scheduling, quality aspects (including tracking training), POs, Quotes, Corrective Actions, etc. We continue to try to find new aspects of this to incorporate in to our system because it is all so seamless together. Anytime we have questions about setting something up or fixing an error we're getting the E2 Support has been knowledgeable and gotten us squared away.

Nachteile

It can be a lot to set up at first, however, once it's done it is worth it.

Solid ERP System

We do not utilize JobBoss to it's full potential and are currently exploring ways to utilize more of the benefits provided. It does help create meaningful process instructions that helps the manufacturing process flow more smoothly. It helps track shipments and OTD which is beneficial to our organization.

Vorteile

JobBoss is a great system for integrating all aspects of manufacturing industries. We use it to generate shop travelers, create purchase orders and oversee outside processes. It gathers data from all areas of the organization and presents it in an understandable and insightful format.

Nachteile

My one compliant is the inability to delete old/obsolete data. We have a lot of obsolete raw materials in the system that have not been used in years, but since they have been used in previous records, it cannot be removed. This makes it difficult to set up a new numbering/coding system because the user has to work around obsolete/redundant data.

Exact JobBOSS review

Good Service generally and helpful on custom apps. We have done a bunch of them!

Vorteile

Good first level entry product. Lots of options for expansion. Priced well. works well for most of what we do

Nachteile

Could be easier to use. Search in fields could search the whole field instead of just in order. Need ability to reschedule batches of jobs or ops. Looking in the future to need better paperless abilities for the floor. This would be drawings, capacity dashboards. Also as things become more connected we are going to need ability to integrate to nesting

E2 Shop System for Manufacturing

The E2 Shop system has improved our quoting capabilities, which in turn, increases our bottom line. Our company uses Quickbooks and the interface has been consistent and reliable. And again, on the few times where there has been connectivity issues with Quickbooks, E2's technical support was able to resolve the problem very quickly.

Vorteile

This software is very consistent throughout all modules which makes it very user friendly. Also, the customer service is excellent. Each time I have encountered any issues, I can get a technician on the phone immediately who can remote in and resolve my issue instantly. They are knowledgeable, communicate clearly, and very efficient.

Nachteile

There is a bit of a lag time in using the online version, but the data is secure and the updates are frequent. Also, it does not retain historical pricing information for cost of materials, which would be useful when analyzing particular material costs.

We have implemented this for a month now

We purchased E2 Shop System in October after months of research to find a manufacturing system that would integrate well with our accounting software that is already in place. There are several little quirks and kinks that we quickly discovered upon deploying the system that just made it a bit more tedious to use that honestly we probably wouldn't have purchased the software had we known this during the demo. The online training classes are not one-on-one and are instead a classroom type of environment, however, with having to stop every 3-4 minutes because the sample system interface is frozen or someone is having an issue understanding the procedure it tends to get a little lengthy and the content of the class is lost. We have actually taken it upon ourselves to pay the additional fee for someone to come in-house and go through what we still have yet to comprehend (yet have not been contacted to schedule a date well over a week of already approving and paying upfront costs for the trainer.) Hopefully, once we are able to sit down with the specialist all will be running smoothly for us and I will be able to provide a better review.

Nachteile

Difficult to learn, Manuals are out-dated, Customer support is hit or miss, Training classes are sometimes less than helpful and leave you desiring that one-on-one instruction.

Product Review

All in all, It was a good move to E2.

Vorteile

How fast it was up and running. E2 is faster on getting jobs out to the shop. And it takes a lot less time to do the billing and sending out invoices. The Purchasing Auto ordering is great.
I like that it is not a Cloud Base software, If it was, I most likely would of not picked E2.

Nachteile

The bringing over of information from our old system to the new one. It would of been better just putting in the information as we needed.
It would be nice if it was able to keep track of employee vacation time.
The time clock for the Employees clocking in should be on the main frame clock, Not the PC's clock in the shop. When someone is late, they are changing the PC's Clock and punching in on time then changing the clock back to the real time.

JobBOSS Daily User

JobBOSS is geared toward small job shops. The software interface is not intuitive and is frankly unrefined. JobBOSS will suffice for a small shop running simple jobs. But if you are a larger organization with any level of job complexity beyond the most basic, look elsewhere.

Vorteile

JobBOSS functions well for generating basic jobs, quotes, routings, and bills of materials. Basic raw materials and purchased components can be managed as well.

Nachteile

JobBOSS is job centric, not part centric. If you are a manufacturer running repeat parts or part families, this software is lacking. The interface is cumbersome, and often lacking in basic functionality. For example, there are areas in the software where once you start an operation you cannot back up if you've made a mistake. You can also lose data you've typed in without realizing it until after a report is created.

My experience with E2 Shoptech software.

For 2 + years now I have had the pleasure of using E2. I have been in the manufacturing business for over 37 years. Many of software programs have come across my path. Without a shadow of a doubt E2 surpasses the software that I have utilized.

Vorteile

E2 is a very user friendly program. E2 is easy to maneuver through the software. E2 also offers a traditional standard view or a ribbon view which allows the customer to choose their preference. One of the many particular things I LOVE about E2 is their senior consultant Alicia Fox. I just have to say that Alicia goes above and beyond to help out the customers along with Rhonda Dowd account manager whose response time to my inquiries is outstanding! Also the available online tutorial and the technical support which in my opinion is phenomenal! it offers. "Hands down the BEST software that I have ever used"!

Nachteile

One thing I would have to say where E2 falls short in my book. The ability to view some of the information. What I mean by this is, some user fields only allow a partial view. Especially in the accounts payable/vendor field.

Excellent software for a shop or manufacturing company big or small.

before buying any software make sure it look seriously at E-2. Their prices are more affordable than you would think and by far best program for you.

Vorteile

the newest version of the software is great. the ability to create new items, quotes, jobs etc. is very easy. I looked into several different software options and to get the cloud based software the cost was higher than i expected and other company seemed to push to have you buy the on premise versions. the ability to add shop users later is not only easy but very affordable. the nice thing is you dont have to have shop users to be able to track or log times per job. you can enter in manually so if you are a smaller shop you can still take advantage of all the benefits of the software and be able to track P & L quick and easy.

Nachteile

My only downside to this was i used an old version for several years at another company. I was very jaded about looking at it for our new shop because how my previous employer had it set up. after seeing the newest version and all the improvements my mind was changed very quickly.

Database issues

We recently tried to renew our support but were told we had to purchase two years. We cannot commit to two years for sure in case we outgrow our server and want to go cloud based.

Vorteile

Easy to use, functional, can usually figure out flexible work arounds. Integration to QuickBooks works well.

Nachteile

Many shortcomings, especially in regard to the way the database updates. You have to totally close a record and the application to see the updates in other tables. We have many problems with records in use and you cannot save.
I don't like the way that purchase requirements are not consolidated between what is directly for a sales order vs. what is material for jobs. PO's go straight from Open to Closed but not until after costing- PO status should have a "received" status.. If you use a RFQ, (which is nice functionality) it marks the material as "started" once the RFQ is used it can never be removed from a job if a change needs to be made. There are other quirky issues with Sales orders where this just does not feel like it native with the other apps.

E2 Shoptech

It has helped tracking of real job cost exponentially. For our type of service there needs to be other options available for reports (I realize we can pay you for custom reports but for our type of business it seems like it should already be there). Also I think that in estimate/quote/orders there should be two lines for misc. tooling/charge because a lot of times there is a setup charge that is recurring and tooling charges that are not always recurring but are incurred none the less. You should also be able to bring data into estimate from quote instead of only the other way around. Small business service companies don't have the time to create an estimate in order to give a price on a job. We can look at a part after being around for almost 60 years and say, eh that looks like about a $200 job. We purchase no material, it is all customer supplied so there are no costs associated with the job other than our labor and occasionally tooling so it is a waste of time to make an estimate when you may not even win the job. We type up a quote and then maybe 3 days or maybe 3 weeks later we win the job I want to be able to go into estimate at this point and pull in the info from my quote...part number, pricing, description....then I can add the routing and the part notes.

Overall experience with the personal at Shoptech. From the support to team to the sales team. All are knowledgeable.

Vorteile

The versatility, working with the custom development team and being able to get features that aren't out of the box. From the end users perspective it's easy to use.

Nachteile

I have no complaints at this time. Very pleased with the product.

I worked for a custom automotive shop who ventured into vehicle production and parts manufacturing. One of the business owners, who was the financial partner and NOT knowledgeable in any of the fields, was talked into buying this software. It fell on me to set up our business data and operations into this software.

My experience is extensive in not only the necessary automotive fields, but also above average in database management and organization. Having worked for small and large shops, we used everything from specialty automotive shop management systems and custom SQL databases to Epicor Vista to the big boys' software of SAP, and Oracle.

The positive of E2 - They did help ensure the product was properly installed and set up and tried to resolve my issues.
The negative of E2 - It could not handle the type of work management for production, parts builds, vehicle assemblies, and related management.

My employers were very upset to learn this was not working out. Naturally, they blamed me first. I demanded that the owner (purchaser of E2), E2 support, and I have a conference call to discuss the whole thing. The result of the conference call vindicated me and led to the dismantling of E2 for this company.

The support at E2 was up and down - partly from lack of availability to not knowing how to resolve our problem. They did ultimately agree with me, as I proved to them what was happening. They benefitted from my misfortune, as I learned some software issues which needed addressing. I suppose a later version may have resolved some of it, but it was actually giving false information.

Overall, I imagine the system is okay for some small business operations - and NOT for what my employer bought it. I do not blame E2 for that - They could not know what we were doing if the purchaser did not articulate it properly.

No one else at our shop knew how to use it. Again, not the fault of E2. It did force the "showdown" call to PROVE I was correct. I think E2 was more supportive than my employers and co-workers. They probably stared at the multi-page report for hours with a blank look.

SUMMARY
E2 might be for you if you have a basic operation. As far as manufacturing, it may be okay if assembling furniture but not for complex manufacturing environments. Support is generally cooperative. I much prefer specialty software for my various applications.

E2 Review

We use this system every day to manage our manufacturing, warehousing, and distribution activities.

Vorteile

Our company has utilized E2 for 18 years and I have been a user for 13+ years. It is a robust system. We have had virtually no downtime due to system related issues. We started with the MDB version and migrated to SQL about 7 years ago. No issues with either. The support team has always been superb - - easy to get a hold of and not in a hurry to hang up. I appreciate that.

Overall just a really good software package and a great company to deal with. If you invest in this software, do yourself a favor and get Crystal Reports and write your own reports for data retrieval. System is open to allow for this functionality and will make the use of the data even better.

Nachteile

The ability to customize is limited in regards to functionality. The company prefers to keep the backbone "vanilla" and I do understand it. However there are times that we could get a big gain from a tweak and we are just not able to get it done.

E2 Shop System!

Very good experience! It has made day to day activities a little more streamline

Vorteile

Software was very easy to implement after being on regular E2. The new inventory app works great for us and we use it to keep a "live" bin location for our material that gets update daily as we move items around the shop. I like the flexibility due to be able to log in from home and see who is working on what job and who is punched in or out. Overall it is user friendly

Nachteile

There are some bugs we had when using a regular desktop for data collection were operators punch in and out. We were using internet explorer and were constantly having issues. We have switched to google chrome and problems have become a lot fewer. Having updates on Friday during the day, become a pain and we have issues with employees punch in & out. Inventory app could be a little more user friendly for our new operators, because you have to put in exact "name" of material to find it, there is not a partial search.

Shoptech experience

As a manufacturer of plastic tubes and extrusions, we have been using E2 Shoptech since 2005. It replaced a very costly "Great Plains" software that we had been using and we have not looked back since. Very satisfied

Vorteile

E2 Shoptech is easy to learn, keeps track of all necessary metrics, is very forgiving when mistakes are made on self-inflicted data input, and customizable to fit the needs of most companies.

Nachteile

If I had to find 1 weakness that pertains to our use of the program is that it could use a more visually impacting display for a shipping schedule. Shoptech does compile all necessary shipping data - just doesn't display it in a format that works for us. Probably would work for most other companies - just not a perfect display for us. Shoptech does permit workarounds and we have found this to be a very easy solution. Shoptech automatically sends shipping, BOL, tracking, etc to a standalone shipping schedule display that Shoptech helped us develop. Again, not a serious con as it was easily correctible to our satisfaction.

I love how easy E2 Shoptech is to use for the average person and the integration with...

Vorteile

Ease of use and the integration with Quickbooks for accounting. Reports look great and its awesome that you can get help to customize the reports if you want. It is also very easy to train someone to use even if that person has not had any real experience using software systems.

Nachteile

I really do not like the scheduling module. I don't think it works for our type of work and just is difficult for us to figure out.

E2 Review

Vorteile

The overall system is very easy to adapt to. This year I was happy to find out that I can enter a journal entry into the system, say for eg; monthly insurance and can copy the entry and enter it the next month and not have to enter the entire journal just change the date. Yes it seems like a small task but if you have more then 10 recurring journal entries, it saves a lot of time not have to enter the same information each month.

Nachteile

What I dislike most about the software is that if I have to enter accounts payable or receivable invoices for the same company, especially accounts payable, I could have ten invoices from one supplier. I have to enter each invoice for that company name each time. It been nice if there was a way to select the suppliers name and then just enter the invoices.

We are a small manufacturing company (about 30 employees.) We have been in business since 1987 and have gone through a few systems prior to JobBOSS. Previous to JobBOSS we were using a program that would only run on an old UNIX system and the company we purchased it from was no longer in business. We researched a few companies after the decision was reached to switch to something more up to date and JobBOSS came to the front for a number of reasons. When we purchased JobBOSS back in 2002 they were not part of Exact. We felt that a smaller local company with a track record of success would provide us with more personalized support should issues arise.

The ability to access the data directly (via MS Access or SQL) was important to us. With our old product the data was in a black box that we had no direct control over. The price was competitive for the features offered. Since purchasing the software in 2002, we have continued to be impressed by their support and commitment to their customers. We like that JobBOSS surveys customers for improvements that they add to the software. This makes us feel like we are really a part of the team and our opinions and needs matter. Support is, for the most part, very responsive. Short hold times and support representatives are friendly and knowledgeable.

Since being purchased by Exact, JobBOSS’s commitment to customers and service hasn’t diminished. (As can be typical when smaller businesses are acquired) We like the ability to schedule our shop floor using the program. As well as how interconnected all aspects of the manufacturing processes are in this program. If material is late in arriving it lets you know the schedule is going to be affected. Before we purchased JobBOSS, scheduling was accomplished using paper/binders and calling or running back in forth to different people to get status updates. With JobBOSS all our information is a click away. The program had about a month long learning period but to get up and running it only took about a week. The program is also fairly intuitive, in our opinion, so that helps lessen the learning curve.

I would have little trouble recommending Exact JobBOSS to any manufacturing shop. It has helped us become more aware of the bottlenecks in our own shop. It also provides in-depth insight into the entire manufacturing process from quote to shipment.

Rickard Metals' E2 Review

Although we struggled with implementation and initial system setup, overall E2 is a great system and a huge value for dollars spent! Again, as the quality system administrator, the E2 quality module affords the ease of giving auditors a quick view of the effectiveness of the QMS and does the document organization for me. Charts and graphs are quickly generated with clear data points. The quality section does not give the appearance of an "afterthought" as many, many systems' quality modules exhibit. The CFO here is still very partial to Quickbooks but I believe that we could function very well using E2's Accounting module alone.
This system was clearly built by people who understand manufacturing processes and challenges and that has clearly made all the difference!

Would also like to see document attachment in Receiver so that certs and inspection documents could be attached by user.

Not Very Intuitive, Poor Customer Support

We have had JobBoss for a number of years and have just put up with it.

It is obvious that over the years they have just kept adding features and the system is clunky and not intuitive.

I got excited when they announced a new cloud version a few years back. This had appealed to me as it appeared to be a new version, and our server needed replacement so this was the right solution at the right time. I'm based in Canada and was told it would be coming to Canada soon, but I would need to convert my Accounting to Quickbooks Online as QBO is the accounting engine for the cloud platform.

That was several years ago. I've called a handful of times with no resolution, everytime it's either "We're working on it", or they encourage me to get a US address to have the Cloud but I wouldn't have Canadian Payroll, or they start giving me complicated answers about the server version being hosted by someone else.. I've also emailed a few times with no response. They've never been able to give me a clear roadmap of what to do which has been super frustrating.

We have now picked new cloud-based software provider.

Not User-Friendly or intuitive. (Just ask them to demo their CRM to see what I mean).

Good for the price

Job Boss is a comprehensive package for resource management, from receiving raw materials to scheduling jobs and shipping orders. Integration with 3rd party quality management systems is good. Custom report writing for Job Boss is a must, but thankfully Exact employs a very knowledgeable consultation team to help. The software contains some bugs and is missing some features, but support is always on top completing support requests and explaining how to use modules. We've only implemented 75% of Job Boss (Sales, Purchasing, Accounting, and Shipping), but we are excited to start running Job's in the middle of 2017 and fully realize this software's full potential.

Vorteile

Comprehensive ERP system includes modules and features for all aspects of Production, Sales and Purchasing.
Helpful support staff is always willing to spend the time necessary to answer questions.
Good integration with Unipoint Quality Management Software.
Flexible reports easily modified by Crystal Reports.
Frequent Updates, we are excited to see what Exact brings in the years to come.

Nachteile

No support for maintaining multiple revisions for parts with the same material names.
Job Boss cannot track Materials Lots to Packlists for Sales Orders with multiple Lots and multiple Packlists.
Data Entry is inconsistent among various modules, search screens and report filters.
Purchasing Module is clunky. Revision tracking sometimes prevents the user from saving work.

Northfield Precision

All in all we are very pleased with the system.
It covers all of the aspects we need for our business and operates well on a daily basis.

Vorteile

We are very pleased with features that we use from the software.
We do not use data collection as it does not fit into our business, but we may use it in the future.
The system is easy to use and navigate with no lag time.

Nachteile

We do find the search aspect to be a little difficult.
When entering lines for orders, the popups can get in the way, such as the box for quantities that comes up as well as similar part numbers.

The product seems to be in design stage. Many things don't work as expected and tech support...

Looks like they may have a good product if they get a lot of bugs worked out. Not ready for sale yet but they'll gladly sell it to you. If your shop is big enough to pay for this type of software and you need real time data entry as well as cost/pricing included for each job find something else. If you just want to keep a schedule go for something like Just Plan It or Odoo and use Quickbooks for the money side of things. You'll save a lot of money.

Vorteile

It does an OK job for the money but honestly they need to do some work on the programming side. Seems like a product that should still be in the design stage.

Nachteile

They make it difficult for floor guys to post stock to projects, the data recorder centers constantly don't clock guys into jobs, they don't allow for dry times in-between production stages, there are several things that do not work or don't work as they are supposed to, the time clock for employees doesn't automatically adjust for over time if a manual correction is made, the printing set up is terrible (I know this seems silly but it make a big difference), you can't have multiple tabs open so every time you want to move to a different section the browser has to update and many other small but big issues.

Good software

Overall this is the best application for what we need. The customer service is top notch. The custom development team is good.

Vorteile

I like the fact the you can route, have job costing, accounting, etc all in one area. For this type of application, this is the best software to choose from. Shoptech continues to make improvements and listens to the customers on where to improve.

Nachteile

The quality module needs improved as well as the scheduling. The repository in unusable.

Good software for a small company

This is a versatile software, allowing me to track purchase orders and receivers for accounting purposes. The best part about this software is the customer service. I can call for help, and they are not in a hurry to get me off the phone. They truly want me to be able to use it the way I need to.

Vorteile

This software is pretty easy to use. It has functionality for just about everything, from quoting, purchase orders, receiving, accounts payable and accounts receivable. This software also has the ability to keep track of inventory.

Nachteile

As most software, there are some glitches. I may sometimes need to exit out of the software, or exit the application entirely and go back in so that I can properly do data entry. The software also has a very basic look and reminds me of DOS applications made to work in a Windows environment. We do not use the payroll function, as we do our own direct deposit and I see no option. That would be a great addition to make to the software

Enhancements to E2

Started we E2 in an Access Data Base we are now running our data in SQL

Vorteile

It would be nice to customize each module screen, not the program itself just the titles E2 assigned to that field. This may not be the words company uses thereby this is harder to teach employees. Also would be easier to follow if you had a sales order module separate from sales and call it production or job number
It would be great if you could incorporate auto receive to inventory items instead of having to create packing slip. Also back flush for jobs would be great for tracking components used in production

Does not have payroll module
We are ISO Certified and tracing raw material purchase order to job production to finished product is great

High Mix-Low Volume Machine shop review

Vorteile

I like how it was quite easy to use out of the box. it manages quotes and simple estimating based on processes alone pretty well. It would do well if you are doing jobs that do not involve tools, quality records or things that pertain to the order as a whole.

Nachteile

E2 is that it is lacking many functional things that are necessary. I have been informed of work arounds for most of these, but the work arounds are not great.

One time expenses or expences that pertain to the whole order. E2 does not do one time anything, whether material, tooling, fixture expenses, shipping etc.The same goes for routing steps that apply to the whole order/ are a one time thing like program design and validation. I need more than than a misc tooling charge when attempting accurate time and material estimating. According to E2, there is only BOM and the routing steps for production.

Example: I need to estimate fixture material and spend time making a fixture for a one off job.

The makers of E2 did not consider quality traceability when making E2. AKA reports that are linked to the order. When the material gets used in any order, a material test report needs to be included in the certification.

EMPLOYEES can not upload inspection reports to the job.

There is no easy way to issue cutting tools for a job and therefore cannot do any vending. not that E2 integrates with any type of vending machine...

E2 is a fully functional Shop program that is user friendly and a great product.

Vorteile

The software allows you to create items on the fly to eliminate down time.
E2 is very customizable to your specific needs in your organization.
E2 has integrated the various currencies that are used in transactions.
The software has user security so that you can limit the information seen by each user
It is a fully functional program that takes the part from inception and quote stage to the full out Order processing and then to shipping.
We love the integration with Data Collection to minimize input of labour entries
Customer Service is great and they can usually fix the issue within 1 or 2 phone calls unless it is a larger issue but is also escalated to keep the down time to a minimum.
It is also pretty easy to teach new employees on how to use the program.

Nachteile

The software is a great product and I really don't have anything we don't like about the program. We use it daily and very rarely do we have any issues.

Jobboss has been a great tool in improving our production management.

We've spent the time to setup each module in Jobboss to ensure we can run our shop as efficiently as possible. It's really saved us a lot of headaches and ultimately helped with job costing.

Vorteile

If the time is taken to setup each module that suits your company there are so many benefits to using Jobboss.
The live data that can be collected from production. This helps with inventory, shop efficiency, job costing, management, documentation etc..
Another great aspect is the Shop Alerts feature which allows you to setup triggers in the system via email, text, & Jobboss' messaging system. Our system is setup to send an email whenever a pack slip is made, this helps manage our shipping department. We also have an alert to email whenever there is an excess amount of scrap for a job. These are just a few examples of the alerts we have setup in our system.
There are so many aspects of Jobboss that ultimately help with managing production control.

Nachteile

Majority of Jobboss' cons are minor.
I had to "clear" out most of the garbage that was saved in Jobboss prior to processing each module out. If there is any activity against a material or operation you cannot simply delete it. You have to go through and delete each transaction against that material or operation, or obsolete it using the Find & Replace utility. If you set your system up right from the start this will not be an issue for you.
There are certain default settings in Jobboss that cannot be changed. One example is the shape under Raw material; there are only 19 default shapes that can be chosen.
There will always be minor cons that you will run into when setting up a system for your business.

CUTOMER REVIEW

Great, nothing to grip about other than when you put pieces into inventory the amount you are entering comes out one line item down, this didn't use to happen in the beginning but I'm sure there is a reason for it, I just don't know what it is.

Vorteile

I personally like all of E2 and what it has to offer. It is great as a package with little to no bad aspects.

Nachteile

I have a little trouble with prepayments but that is mainly because in 10 years I have only used it twice so not much of a chance to learn and retain. I think we could use it even better but I can't get these guys to go with the system and change their ways. :-)
I don't like filling out your form and then not being able to send it but that has to do with Capterra.

Great ERP

Implementing E2 Shop filled some of the gaps in our work flow and made the transition to our quality certification much easier by consolidating several of the record keeping and reporting in a central location.

Vorteile

The cloud base platform is a significant improvement from the local-hosted version. They also have fantastic technical support. The interface is very intuitive and easy to learn even for first time ERP users.

Nachteile

The ability to navigate database as a tables, sort and customize columns for quick viewing is missing. An option to pull as report is available but adds a few extra steps. The scheduling module is very rigid and does not have much options for customization.

Griffin Industries has been in business since 1983, and specializes in prototype and low lot machined castings. Working in the prototype world, timing is everything and our customers have come to expect quality parts in a short period of time. With the help of Exact JobBOSS and Synergy, we are able to see real time data for all of the jobs in our shop and manage them effectively.

Throughout the years as Griffin grew, more and more excel spreadsheets and access databases were required to track the variety of information required. This often led to data entry errors, information not available when needed, and frustration throughout the organization. In 2008 we decided to pursue a software solution that was capable of handling the multitude of data required. We discovered Exact JobBOSS at IMTS in Chicago. After several demos and discussions with the sales staff at Exact, conversations with other Exact JobBOSS users, and internal meetings we made the decision to switch to Exact JobBOSS and Synergy. We went live in January of 2009 and have not looked back.

Our implementation process went fairly smoothly, all things considered. I definitely recommend relying on the expertise of the consultants at Exact to help you through the conversion. They were able to review how we run our business, which helped us to let Exact JobBOSS do the work for us. Our biggest challenges were training shop floor personnel who had never touched a computer before to use Data Collection. Also, for the users to learn the system, to obtain the data they were looking for rather than relying on administrative support to supply it for them.

Today we are using version 11.3.8 of Exact JobBOSS along with Exact Synergy ASP, and are very happy with it. We have eliminated almost all of the extra reports that were used outside of the system, to track information, with the reports supplied by JobBOSS. We have even written some custom reports. As a result, we have reduced our administrative staff from five full-time employees to three full-time employees. We continue to improve our processes and our use of the system. We look forward to upgrading to the newest 11.5 version of JobBOSS along with Synergy ESE with the help of the support staff at Exact.

E2 Petrel Review

Customer Service has always been very helpful. I get very frustrated with so many companies customer service these days but not with E2. Always great about getting back to me if they need to research a problem.

Vorteile

For the most part, the software is easy to use once you learn it. There are a few things that take a little research to figure out how they work like the pricing of material and the markup feature and how the price carries over into the quote.

Nachteile

It would be nice to have the tab feature take you from one field to the next (in order). Also, after entering a field, now you have to move off of that field for that figure to factor into the quote. If I move from the routing tab to the general tab, the amount does not get factored in.

E2 SHOP SYSTEMS HELPED US ADVANCE

Overall we are very happy with the way E2 has modernized our shop and helped us grow and advance our operation.

Vorteile

E2 Shop Systems is intuitive software. It is very user friendly.

Nachteile

I wish the graphics were a little better and you could open multiple windows at the same time.

Great for tracking job costs!

Vorteile

Allowed traceability for job costing, I was finally able to see if I was actually making money on jobs rather than just knowing there was money in the checking account at the end of the month.

Nachteile

If you don't purchase all of the modules together and just add on as you need them and certain fields in the main program are not used properly it takes a lot to implement the new modules, particularly the scheduling module.

Turned my shop around

Cannot live without it now.

Vorteile

Loaded with features. Took my manually operated shop to the next level and then some. We cannot live without it now. Custom applications available that make it even better. I can watch and control my shop from anywhere!

Nachteile

setup was tiresome and takes a good bit of learning.

An invaluable and integral tool for our business growth and success

Vorteile

We have been using E2 in our shop for over ten years, and it has proven itself worthy of the investment time and time again. It is a thorough and well rounded system which assists us in successfully tracking our work load, material inventory, customer database, etc. Utilizing the scheduling tools, such as the Whiteboard, has become essential for evaluating our WIP, providing an overview of jobs in process and tracking due dates. The time tickets and performance summaries are extremely beneficial in measuring employee efficiencies. We are in regular communication with technical support, customizing the individual modules to accommodate the evolution of our business practices and constantly growing and changing capabilities. They have helped us create custom reports and summaries which allow us to categorically track productivity and expenses across the board.

Nachteile

The major issue we have with the software is the cost of additional seats. Our company has maintained strong, consistent growth over the past decade and as we have expanded, it has been difficult to justify the cost of additional users. As we tend to hold out on purchasing new seats until absolutely necessary, it would be nice to see some price breaks as we continue to add users.

Great Option for Small Manufacturing Business

Vorteile

E2 Shop is very user friendly! It is easy to navigate and easy to understand.

E2 Shop has the best customer service we have experienced and has a wonderful online discussion board and help documents to help along the way.

Nachteile

We have experienced a good amount of "glitches" and software "hang-ups" that require a system repair which we were advised to do every 2 weeks. (All have proven to be software related).

Customization heavily required

Our JobBoss software was purchased to manage a contract manufacturing company. Years of challenges and customization have left us with a product that is functional, but offers little to benefit in the areas of production, inventory and cost tracking. Overall, our company has not been happy with the product and is pursuing other options.

Vorteile

Current updates to the software UI have been tastefully done and greatly increase the usability of the product.

Nachteile

The software needs to be heavily customized to perform even the most basic tasks across a manufacturing business. Furthermore, exporting reports to excel is cumbersome and requires hours of post work developing macros to sort and organize .csv data so that it is legible and usable. Lastly, the required consulting help will come from third party independent consultants who might not live in your area. This product has a host of pitfalls, and is inferior to other ECi offerings.

Used to use E2

Customer support and product was good. We aren’t a machine shop and are a travel service company. E2 wasn’t offering a Mobil App at the time we needed it. That is why we moved to another software to track all employees time and expenses.

Vorteile

It was great at linking in-house employee hours jobs.

Nachteile

It was not easy for employees to change their time during the day/week. Managers had to edit it.
