I'm sold!

Vorteile

We now have a way to track literally every aspect of our business. Production times are tracked to the minute. Material costs are tracked and updated to the penny. Invoicing has become nearly instant and requires far fewer personnel hours. Shipping and receiving documents available with the click of a button. We have also virtually eliminated duplicate data entries, which were a real time loss before. I thought about researched E2 for a couple of years before signing up. Arguably, the best business decision I have ever made.

Nachteile

I wish there were more in person training options available. i.e. Training courses my people could attend live and in person. There is an abundance of on-line training available, but it can be hard to grasp in the initial stages of implementation.

E2 for a manufacturer

the overall experience with E2 has been good.

Vorteile

E2 is very easy to use once you know how to use it. the amount of information available within the system is accessible and usable for most aspects of operation

Nachteile

without training the software is not user friendly. utilizing on site training was very valuable but expensive. the ability to customize for specific information or specific type of information comes at a very high cost. set up is very critical especially if you are trying to import information from other databases.

Our experience with E2 Shoptech

We are very happy with the system, and our customers like it as well, especially when we can tell them when they can get parts and what kind of lead times to expect. Our quoting also became much more accurate .

Vorteile

The best feature about the software is the flexibility and scale ability E2 offered from the start. We were already a 15 year old, established shop when we integrated the software in our shop in 2001, and we did it with ease in parallel with our normal workload.

Nachteile

There is very little we didn't like about the software ( except it maybe better if it were free ! ) but writing custom reports was the hardest for us. luckily, E2 provides report writing as a service.

Overall business processing in our fast paced manufacturing business

Vorteile

Ease of use, customer support and the fact we could move from our previous E2 to this one almost seamlessly.

Nachteile

Pricing of additional seats, but that is everyone's complaint about all products lol!

Serious Bang for your Buck

Top Notch. The support is really terrific. It was super smooth in the set up (I mean it was real work to switch, but it was smooth) and even today the tech support is really terrific.

Vorteile

Its the right scale and fit for my company. There's more than enough functionality, without everything being layered and burdened with too many features, options, process. It fits. It works. Its sophisticated enough for a power users, but easy enough for non technical people to get up and running quickly and smoothly.

Nachteile

Honestly, most of the things I didn't like are gone. That's the advantage of web based software. I point out an issue, its gone in week. I complain about a function, it gets fixed. I'm not waiting on a fix next year in a product release that I have to buy, and I'm not stuck with clunky software that never improves.

Web based is the way to go.

How did I do it before E2?

E2 has been superb at streamlining our quoting process. I've been using E2 for 14 years and don't know how I did it before E2!

Vorteile

E2 software makes it so easy and quick to review data on jobs. i know in an instant if there is a problem with WIP. It keeps the organization on track and has helped in the ISO and IATF audits.

Nachteile

It would be nice to have the ability to open a Purchase Order and Receiver at the same time.

E2 Helps Our Shop Stay Organized

We use E2 for quoting every job request we receive. Once we enter the routing for a part we can use it every time that part is ordered. We also successfully use it for purchasing. It is a great shop management tool.

Vorteile

E2 helps us keep track of every quote, order and purchase we have. It is very easy to search for parts, customers and vendors. The reporting capabilities are also very helpful. The interface between E2 and Quickbooks is seamless and super helpful. We have also enjoyed the fantastic customer support we have received over the past many years.

Nachteile

At this point there is nothing that we like least.

EXCELLENT SOFTWARE

We are solving our issues with our quoting with E2. Before we did all of our quoting on paper and we are starting to use the routing and estimation now to help find the costs of our products.

Vorteile

This software has helped us tremendously in our manufacturing business. Whether its quoting or purchasing this system helps us stay organized. This system has helped us be competitive in the industry. This software helps things run smoothly in our job shot.

Nachteile

There really isn't anything that we do not like about this system. It can be tough searching for a part number because its very sensitive when it comes to spaces or hyphens etc. But its a really great system.

Perfect ERP System

With E2 we are able to integrate all aspects of the manufacturing process. We are able to see the progress of a job in regards to hours, cost, scheduling, and OTD.

Vorteile

This software is perfect for our manufacturing facility. The ease of use and customer support is fantastic. Anytime we need help, the folks at Shoptech are eager to assist and resolve any issue in a professional and timely manner.

Nachteile

In certain cases the software is not very flexible. There are times you need to update an order or PO and find that since other steps have been taken, you are not able to make the corrections or updates you need to make.

Amazed at all the capabilities of the software Love the web based version!!!

I love this software. The moment I was introduced to the software I was hooked. It can be overwhelming when you first try to implement it and get into using it everyday but the support staff are amazing. I have worked with both the E2 shop server based software and the new web based version and the web based is so easy to implement, and the fact that it is self maintained, helps for everyone who doesn't have a full time IT person and feels like they are technically challenged. Also it does not matter what size your shop is, if you want true accurate job costing, this is for you.

Vorteile

The ease of use and the mobility of the web version is amazing that you can have access any time, any where. Being able to use smart phones and tablets for data collection puts a terminal in every persons hand. No more taking time to go to a terminal to log in and out. Which was our number one complaint from employees when we first started using E2

Good idea, but poor follow through

It's filling the need for quoting and job tracking, but only because it cost so much to purchase that we are unable to change at this time.

Vorteile

Allows you to track jobs from quoting to invoicing. You can add pictures and descriptions of the items to be built and track the quality of the item including the employee doing the work.

Nachteile

Doesn't integrate with all programs as promised; not able to edit wording on some documents that the program produces; not able to add a logo and address with ease; support gives you the run around IF you can reach someone when you call.

Qualitask - Job Shop Review

Vorteile

-Software is fairly easy to use.
-Modules help keep track of customer orders and any related processes for each order.
-Can be used on any computer with web access.
-Job travelers make it clear for the Production Team.

Nachteile

-Would be nice to have a built-in follow-up reminder to add to Outlook Calendar for Purchase Orders
-The flexibility to customize is not as easy
-Some of the reports and forms are overloaded with information, and to customize requires payment. There should be some basic customization included for reports/forms based on the information that E2 has gathered from all of its customers.

It did what we needed it to do. Monitor Inventory, Produce Quotes , Acknowledgements, Invoicing. Keep a History. It has been an improvement over using spreadsheets like we were doing.

Jobboss Experience

These are just wish list items, but would be valuable time savers. Overall, I like the system.

Vorteile

I find JobBoss to be a valuable tool for my daily task. It is easy to use. The customer support is always very helpful. The export function is also a big plus for my reporting needs.

Nachteile

I wish there was a way to import information. It would be a valuable if spreadsheet data could be imported to generate Journal entries rather than typing. The journal models are great but for data that changes month to month it doesn't really help. It would also be useful if you could add a description to each JE line. It would save research time later.
It would also be nice if there were a field to add comments or notes to the A/R and A/P aging reports. Adding information on collection calls or issues with payments etc...

E2 Software User Evaluation

I have been using this software for the past six years in a small, make-to-order machine shop. I use it for everything from the estimating process through invoicing and financial performance reporting. In general, it serves me very well. We do not have sufficient bandwidth to use it to it's full potential, but hope to grow to the level where we can. Shoptech also does a good job of support, which is key with any business control system.

Vorteile

Relative ease of use. I like how the modules work together as you create estimates, add them to quotes, and ultimately, convert the quotes to orders. If you spend your time doing a thorough job on the estimate, the rest of the process flows easily from there.

Nachteile

Some of the canned reports and screens aren't well laid out.
Lack of multiple routing capability for an item.
No part where-used, which is important when you are using multi-level bills.

You Can't Monitor What You Can't Measure

We have had JobBOSS for over 12 years. It was a definite upgrade from our previous custom system. We are a small electronics contract manufacturer, so we have to keep tabs on thousands of line items of inventory and multiple jobs for over 100 clients. There used to be a time where we did this using index cards, but we have come a long way.

We didn't get all components of the system, but we have gradually added pieces, like most recently, we added Data Collection which we are still getting used to. Our goal is to have the ability to better understand the time spent on each job. We had a consultant come out for one day to train us one-on-one and it was just what we needed to understand how the system works. Videos can only make one so comfortable.

E2 Shop System review

Our overall experience has been very positive, we still need to explore the software more to utilize all features.

Vorteile

The software is user friendly, I like that when you create a customer or vendor quote, the quote number can be used to create the sales order or purchase order. From the sales order number you create the packing list, and from that number the invoice. This way you do not have to re-type the information every time you create new paperwork. There is a nice flow to the program

I do not have any negative comments regarding this software, so far it has been working positive for our company

E2 Review

Our overall experience with E2 has been very positive. Shoptech has a module that we used to help prepare us for our ISO 9000 and AS9100 certification. We were able to build our QMS documents with the push of a button. Our auditor was impressed with how well our E2 system was integrated with our QMS documents.

Vorteile

E2 is very easy to use. We like the ability to integrate our quality management system within E2. E2 is very customizable.

Nachteile

The integration with Quickbooks is still a nebulous to us. But in fairness to E2, we have not do much research into it nor are we accounts!

Been a user for 15 years

E2 has great customer service. The response time is quick and they are open for part of the day on Saturday which is excellent.

Vorteile

Fairly easy to use once you get used to it. I appreciate how easy it is to change permissions for users when needed. Quickview is extremely helpful for quick referencing.

Nachteile

Scheduling is not an easy module to learn. I would like to be able to see a schedule view of work orders as opposed to line items. I’m sure i can figure something out to get me close to this but i have not had the downtime to actually do this. We may have 100 open orders but over a thousand line items.

E2 Shoptech kept us profitable

As my title stated, the software kept us profitable. Before that, we had been falling behind the competition in our abilities.

Vorteile

Before we bought the E2 software we were keeping track of our costs manually and we were doing it inconsistently. Now we all know what our updated costs are, which results in more consistent pricing no matter which one of us is completing a quote.

Nachteile

The first few months were brutal. The software only works well when you have a good database of raw materials and properly-priced items on the books, so it took a while for enough useful information to fill the void.

Best investment I've made in 25 year of Manufacturing.

I own a small machine shop in Southern California and was using another product for a couple of years back in the early 1990's. I switched to Jobboss in the late 1990's and have never looked back. It is the complete package from quoting to job entry, purchasing, receivables and payables and job tracking. Most of my jobs are repeat orders and it's so easy to copy the information from the past time I ran the job to the new order. It populates the part number, description, revision, price, drawing number, operations and outside services and also the purchase history and material needs for the order. All you need to do is check the revision, price, quantity and enter the delivery date and it was done. Its a time saver when you can see what size, price and quantity of material as well as the vendor and create a purchase order for that from the Job Entry screen.

Ease of use and savings in time with regards to purchasing and costing jobs.

E2 Software

Customer Service is excellent. Too bad there is no one to talk to on the week-end of which I've had a problem quite recently. My bad. A re-boot was done on the following Monday.
Just don't let Tammy in Accounting leave because then we won't have any one left to help in the Accounting Module

TERRIBLE SOFTWARE AND CUSTOMER SERVICE

It was great after we spent another $19k on everything we needed from a functionality standpoint....customer service leaves several things to be desired

It ran my shop during a time when we couldn't afford to do much else as far as ERP was concerned.

Nachteile

TERRIBLY NON-INTUITIVE SYSTEM, features that were advertised are not available because of "functionality trademarks", customer service is not terribly helpful and seems ill-equipped to handle basic questions or offer solutions that are realistic

Frustrating Operation!

After using it for about 18 months now, it still continues to be frustrating. We are supposedly the first shop to use it on a "cloud," and it for whatever reason is not well-suited for such (Perhaps the could itself is a part of the problem - I don't know enough to say one way or the other) But the modules do not function identically. The searches behave differently between different subsections (The way I search in 'Part no.' does not produce the same results in searching in the "Description" tab.)

We hired a new estimator. Even after watching the instructional videos and participating in an online class, I still spent a week over his shoulder walking him through the usage of it.

The only way to learn the process of it is repetition. Rote memorization of the step by step process is the only way it works.

Vorteile

Versatility. It has a wide-range of application. Lots of potential if they can streamline and improve it.

Nachteile

Lack of depth to it's versatility - It seems more for a production shop than a custom fabrication shop. We do jobs from a dollar to millions of dollars... it doesn't fit to any of those templates. It's more for manufacturing/production than custom fabrication.

No intuitive operation to the app. It's only the people who've memorized the process who can use it effectively. Completely repetitive memorization until they've learned the process to operate the modules - then there's little differences between modules. What works in one, is a bit different in another. And the layout has no natural flow, for its flow of operation it's confusing for new users...

Vorteile

All areas in the manufacturing process can all be done on one software.

Nachteile

When you tab over creating a new order and adding part number you can accidently tab to fast and it will us a sub menu for a different quantity.

E2 Shop System

Overall, customer service is professional, helpful and as I stated earlier, once you get the system tweaked for your business needs it is Great!

Vorteile

This system is very good for keeping up with inventory, time on jobs, etc. Great on the production side of the business. Reporting is Great once you get everything tweaked for your business. System is very easy to learn and use.

Nachteile

E2 is not as good on the Accounting side of things, you have to do manual entries for costing, etc. I would however recommend this system, no system that I have used in the past is good for both sides of things.

Not sure what I'd do without E2

E2 was very helpful in getting me up to speed with the software. The implementation specialist along with online tutorials make for a smooth entry. Also, the support team is great. Anytime I needed help customizing or modifying something, they were on it. I am very happy with the performance and constant improvements to the software. I simply don't know how I would manage without E2 in my shop.

Vorteile

As a one man machine shop, I would spend an absurd amount of time entering data. When I sat to quote a job id enter all of the data. Standard Machine shop ERP

We used E2 for about five years. The last three we integrated with cloud reports llc which made a huge difference however we have outgrown the system and are moving on.

customization and advanced functionality is lacking. We purchased the accounting module and if I had it to do over again I would have used the quick books integration instead. The all in one functionality of using E2 accounting module is tempting however it is limited.

Long Time Customer

It has been getting worse not better as they are now going to stop supporting the software that we are using.

Vorteile

We did like the customer service and the many improvements to the software in the beginning.
E2 has decided not to improve their software any more and instead create a whole new software version and ask their existing customers to pay thousands of dollars to upgrade, and let them know that all the money they have been paying for there maintenance is not benefiting them.

E2 manages your shop

E2 has and continues to help us manage our day to day operations. The system is very easy to use and reports are easy to access and customize. The scheduling module works very well and the quality module is a must have. E2 has the best customer support also, they are awesome!

Accounting module could be better, ACH transactions would be nice.

Overall, a good ERP/MRP package

Overall, Shoptech has been frustrating to work with. It has felt as if once they had my money they no longer had an obligation to provide service. Quick to ask for opinions but little to no action on problem spots. "Suggest it to the community." is a frequent response, or "We can quote that feature for you." Quite frankly, it's less frustrating to not deal with them and figure everything thing out on our own, which is probably the way they want it. Most help is achieved by contacting fellow users who have also struggled with the same or similar problems. Despite all this, Shoptech is still helpful in our day-to-day operations and aside from server issues, our employees seldom see the office related problems.

Do yourself a favor and look elsewhere!

There are no benefits to this software that could not have been realized in other ways.

Vorteile

This definitely seemed like it would be an excellent ERP resource to track from quote, to order, to production, to shipping, to billing. It is NOT.

Nachteile

UI is not intuitive, search functions are confusing at best, many "modules" that you may or may not need, and poor training to discern which would be best for your company; implementation for businesses who already use an inventory tracking system is cumbersome; limited editability of databases once created; customer service is abysmal, high turnover of employees/contacts, shady billing practices, poor training opportunities, cloud services outsourced, support is drastically lacking for both the software and the cloud storage, capabilities misrepresented by sales team, unethical behaviour.

Lack of development and dying software

Good at first, but we dropped the maintenance fees several years ago because they stopped adding features or product development.

Vorteile

Easy to use and short learning curve. Can customize reports with Crystal Reports software.

Nachteile

This was cutting edge software and support when we purchased it 17 years ago, but over the past 8-9 years they have made little to no effort into developing and expanding it further. Most of their updates are just "bug fixes". They have an idea portal for users to submit feedback, but I seriously doubt they even consider any of these.

Long-time User

We are able to better manage customer orders and quotes.

Vorteile

We use this software across two businesses setup as separate companies. E2 is used to manage our shop and then we sync AP and AR with QuickBooks. The process to setup customers, vendors, employees, and parts is easy to follow. We are able to track purchases to jobs easily. Employees find it easy to log there time for attendance and against jobs. The integration of quoting to the order to the invoice is excellent.

Nachteile

Making changes to the scheduling system is time consuming and cumbersome.

Like a fine wine, better with age!

Exact customer support is outstanding. They are very helpful to support their product. We have found out that custom reporting has become second nature for the traceability and functions we need to support the aerospace industry. Full implementation has taken longer than we expected, but it appears that is the norm with all software packages.

Vorteile

JobBoss support listens to your complaints. Some become enhancements, and they are addressed in future releases.Most modules are user friendly. JobBoss works well with Unipoint.

Nachteile

Revision changes to part numbers, JobBoss does not support revision changes very well at all. Tracking material lots is a challenge as well. Revision history control in purchases order is not supported well.
Would like sales orders to support one line item with multiple releases.

Great Product for Production Environment

After implementing E2 throughout our shop, we realized we were losing money on the most common part that we process. It was a total eye-opener!

Vorteile

You can see where the time is going on orders. You can use historical data to determine actual job costs by looking at how much time and inventory go into a job. It is really helpful for quoting.

Nachteile

I wish there was a way to better customize reports. I would like to pick a few things that are on similar, but different, reports and combine them into one report, but I have not figured out a way to do that.

JobBoss in a Mold Shop

We have been using JobBoss for many years in a Mold shop. It takes a little time to learn the software and it's full functions, but it has been very good in our environment. We are using data collection!

Vorteile

East of use and Customer Support are the best in the industry. The quoting to Job to timekeeping to invoicing the job is easy to follow.
We didn't get all components of the system, but we have gradually added pieces, we added Data Collection and are very happy with it. Our goal is to have the ability to better understand the time spent on each job.

Nachteile

Current PAYROLL module needs to be replaced soon with replacement Red Wing Accounting Software. Users get "stuck" as logged in once an a while, and have to be logged out by Customer Support.

We had E2 since 1998 it was an excellent software system. Sadly it is not so great anymore.

It works well keeping us up to date with financials, is okay but flawed at time keeping. Our front office has to spend 2 hours every morning adjusting it. You can tell which job an employee is clocked into. Routing and estimation works well if you are very experienced with a lot of machining and programming background. There are other software packages that don't require as much skill to use.

Vorteile

It is windows based software so it makes using it intuitively. The original modules work really well.

Nachteile

Tech support not being able to solve bugs in the system. Scheduling and Quality modules don't perform well and aren't intuitive at all. Our customer service representative is only interested in selling products and services not in helping us resolve performance issues with the system.

Getting in now is a good way to get familiar with the software.

Vorteile

Customer support is easy to access, prompt, and very knowledgeable. For a small shop like the one I work in (less than 20 employees) going from a completely analog based system to a digital one saves a ton of time when it comes to recalling information. Being able to keep track of jobs, purchases, and inventory was our main goal and was accomplished easily using E2.

Update: Previously I was critical of the state the software is currently in and was contacted by Shoptech to gain some insight on the complete overhaul E2 is going through. We had a very informative web demo and am thoroughly impressed with the improvements that are in store. The new interface is much more intuitive while still keeping the core functionality of the current E2 system, so transitioning for end-users should be relatively easy. The power and flexibility of the system has been enriched, bringing multiple open modules, higher limits on searches, easier search filtering; essentially the ability to get/enter information faster and with fewer clicks. Scalability is coming too! It’s an update that I’m looking forward to getting.

Nachteile

The web demo answers many grievances that we have with the current E2 software. An issue, from a small shop perspective, that came up was that of added cost. Everything discussed during the demo regarding pricing is unconfirmed, but due to the nature of how the new system will be implemented an added cost may be incurred separate from the current OPTIONAL maintenance structure. Many small shops will have to weigh the benefits of maintaining a subscription to that of staying with the older system they’re currently using. Hopefully scale of operations is taken into consideration when the actual prices are set.

Vorteile

It is pretty easy to use. There are training classes and user guides to help. It is good that all aspects of the software are tied together so there is not really any re-keying of information. Everything flows from beginning to end; order entry to cash receipts.

Nachteile

It would nice if you could get to say a receiver while in an order using the information box in upper right corner. Navigation from area to another without having to go out and back in.

Good affordable software but has its limits

improved our inventory control and non-conformance control.

Vorteile

Priced well compared to competition, provides reports, upfront training provided. great for the shop floor guys to clock in and out of. While the training manuals were outdated, the software was easy enough to figure out on my own.

Nachteile

So many extra modules must be purchased to make it functional or editable. Customer service can be a little rough to get an answer or fix, but once you get to the the knowledgable person it will get resolved quickly.

Great For Medium to Big Companies

Vorteile

Support is outstanding, standard reports are good, online functionality is great, possibility of using various databases with same amount of users is great flexibility. Bar code reading for tracking production is easy and works great to track man hours per jo.

Nachteile

Making custom reports has been an issue requiring third party software you need to learn how to use and buy. For a small company that does not use a lot of the bells and whistles (which are great for a larger company) it is pricey.

Many bugs and incorrectly functioning things that JobBoss has little interest in correcting.

I don't know about the last couple of versions of the software but I would NEVER recommend the new 12.07 to anyone other than my competitors :-) This is not sour grapes on my behalf just the sad state of affairs. This review by the way was written after they were advised of the issues and I received the " not my problem" response.

Vorteile

We have had it for almost 20 years and so we are comfortable with how it generally works. We have used the accounting as well as data gathering modules for a very long time.

Nachteile

Filled with bugs and the feedback is to use "workarounds" to deal with the issues instead of the bugs being corrected. I'm not sure they even have the ability / staff to address issues. The age old take it as it is attitude is alive and well.

Great service

The person who was trained on E2 at it's inception with our company has left. I've had to contact support several times for help. The support techs I've had are helpful and patient with this not-so-tech-savy novice.

E2Shoptech is comprehensive - but you can use as little or as much of the components as you wish.
The techs who work with you are knowledgeable and patient and don't speak in computerese.

Nachteile

The devil is in the details - if you don't know one little thing, it can prevent you from getting the results you need.

E2 Review

Customer service is outstanding to deal with. The few times I have had issues or didn't understand something with the system, they were quick to figure it out and fix or provide me with the information!

Vorteile

This system is easy to navigate through. We love that it is very user friendly! We also appreciate that there are training seminars available. We have taken a few, in which the trainers have absolutely amazing at presenting the information!

Nachteile

There is nothing I don't like about this software, it is all great to use.
