Solid ERP System

JobBOSS has allowed us to quickly create work orders from quotes which has saved time. Scheduling on JobBOSS has helped our supervisors/foreman plan much better than before.

Vorteile

I like that I can run the complete shop through one software. From quoting, purchasing, quality, scheduling and tracking. It has made operations run much smoother with all the information in one place.

Nachteile

The accounting module was not the best when we first started using it. I believe it has gotten better but have not used it again.

Software that takes user feedback into consideration? Who knew?!

I've used JobBoss for almost 11 years at a small machine shop that specializes in aerospace work. I've seen the software grow and change with updated revisions, each one more useful than the next. That's not to say the program has not been useful in the past - as the industry grows and changes, it's obvious that the company takes user feedback into consideration when improving the software.
The software is easy to use, and technical instructions (such as those for installation) and clear and thorough. Tech support is always knowledgeable and helpful.

Vorteile

It's perfectly geared to manufacturers. There are many ways to customize features and use what works for you - and don't use what doesn't work for you.

Nachteile

I'm not a terribly huge fan on Crystal (one of the options for reports).

An easy way of keeping track of what is going on with your projects and in production

Regardless of the Accounting module issue (maybe it is updated by now): E2 is our most important tool for estimating and keeping track of our projects, progress and extra work that was done. We also use it to track our invoicing on all our projects. E2 is very easy to maintain and to keep up to date. If well maintained E2 becomes a 'Treasure Box' for the company. We are glad we made the step and bought this system, we would do it again.

Vorteile

Easy to use, operates flawless since system installation almost 5 years ago. Creating reports is very easy for everything that is important in a business environment.

Nachteile

The Accounting module does not work for the Canadian market and is useless for a Canadian company. We bought it without knowing that we cannot use it.

Pros: inventory tracking, bin locations, time and attendance, detailed work orders, scheduling, combine purchase orders for multiple sales orders & work orders, move allocated stock between orders, keep track of employee time, QuickBooks sync

Cons: Not user-friendly, difficult reporting, not flexible, requires onsite server installation & support, costly maintenance & training, has random errors that can delete information.

Our Experience: When we purchased E2 Shop System 3 years ago, I was not involved in the purchase, and there was not proper research done to make sure this system was the best for our company. We are a small order manufacturer and distributor of doors and windows. There was a high starting cost to purchase the software and we had to invest in an on-site server to host the program.

During implementation, I feel that there was not proper training or support available, and our business inefficiencies dropped to the point of nearly breaking the company. E2 does offer phone support during business hours if you pay the yearly maintenance fee, but there is limited other help information, so we were never able to implement some parts of the system (i.e. the time tracking for each project and scheduling for each workstation). There is not a built-in configurator, so we had to create part numbers and build a bill of materials as well as routing for each of our assemblies. Some of our employees work off-site and cannot access the system or time and attendance as it is server based, resulting in them having to take their time separately. We used QuickBooks for our accounting as the E2 accounting module was not as robust and we also had to purchase a separate CRM (Landslide) for tracking our sales and marketing activities. We have now chosen to switch to a cloud software, allowing us to combine all three of our previous systems and have much more functionality and reporting access.

Awesome

Everyone at E2 that we have spoken to are all very friendly and make you feel comfortable about asking any question and help you.

Vorteile

This product is very user friendly. We liked it from the start that is why we choose to purchase this product.

Nachteile

There really isn't anything that we dislike about it with the exception of when you put in a new PO the system doesn't tell you that the PO already exists if the same number is in the system or someone else already put it in the system.

My view on E2

Vorteile

I like the idea that you can build a B.O.M. (build of material) easily. Inventory is deducted when a job ships.

Nachteile

You can't have orders, inventory, quoting.... etc open at the same time. You can't minimize a window, you have to close before opening another. It would also be nice to see bin locations (inventory) when I print the material list for an estimate. Unless you are a pro at E@ you have to really search for some reports.

New to JoBOSS

I have enjoyed JobBOSS's versatility so far. I have been working with our IT department to tailor costing reports to streamline our weekly engineering reports our teams must complete. With it being a massive database, I am able to query information and assign it to cells to provide on the spot information in one place rather than performing a multitude of clicks to produce a simple report.

Vorteile

One must take my review with a grain of salt, as I am still striving to gain a working understanding of this, seemingly, robust software. My job involves creating quote packages, and JobBOSS is a very straightforward program that allows me to outline my job routings and accurately reflect the time, work cell, and costs a project requires to get it from PO to shipment.

Nachteile

Our IT group could probably speak more to this; however, doing my own research when it comes to troubleshooting via the internet (Google, etc.), there is not a whole lot to pull from that is "free". Sure, there are some base level, 5 minute tutorials, that perhaps scrape the surface of what you are trying to achieve, but I assume this is where JobBOSS is able to gain/retain customers by providing expert service.

Love this software!!

I cannot say enough about how helpful the technical support is.

Vorteile

Easy to use
Still finding things I did not know I could do with the system.
Customer support is OUTSTANDING! They always go the extra mile to help, always patient, always work to come up with a solution and will call in someone else if they need help.
Can email all documents to vendors and customers

Nachteile

Can only carry 2 years of accounting without closing out to a history company
Cannot delete an inactive vendor or customer.
If you select to view a report on screen before emailing it, you cannot then email from screen view - have to close out and start ''print'' process again.

Complicated software meant to make things easier.

Very expensive software and not worth the money! There are much simpler systems that work just as well.

Vorteile

The high points of E2 are definitely the ability to keep track of inventory & backstock, as well as employee hours! Other than those features though I find it very confusing and difficult to use.

Nachteile

Where do I start? I find this software to be overly complicated and confusing which is a real problem since it’s purpose is to make things easier and run smoothly.

E2 review from a prototype shops perspective

We do not use the software to its fullest potential such as time tracking. What we do use it for, it does a great job with.

Vorteile

The software is very user friendly & pretty easy to set up. Once you learn where everything is, you can access the information you need very fast. Customer service has never let me down.

Nachteile

There isn't much documentation for some of the more advanced features such as report customization, but I appreciate the fact that you are able to do this. If you are not familiar with database management & care, it can be very intimidating, but if you have a good IT person, this shouldn't be an issue.

Our company is a precision CNC machining job shop with ISO9001:2008 certification. We specialize in difficult to machine raw materials and products.

The software we were using prior to E2 was designed by a private individual but was not expandable to cover our needs as our business grew. When we were upgrading our business software, we wanted a product that would provide information necessary to create charts and reports for administrative purposes, shop travelers for production, inventory management, quality control, purchasing, quoting, shipping, and receiving. Also important to us was the ability to link drawings, material certs, and other documents to the various parts that we produce for our customers. We looked at several products but chose the E2 Shop System because it provided all these requirements and was the most user friendly in our opinion. We could also sync it with our QuickBooks Enterprise Solutions software and not have to pay for additional accounting software.

We have been using E2 now for 10 years and have had nothing but a great experience with our E2 software and the support the company has provided us when we needed help, updates, etc. The training provided to our employees was very thorough and was very easy to learn. Our implementation was a very good experience.

We recently completed our ISO9001:2008 certification. When the Stage II auditor called us to arrange for our audit date, one of the questions he asked us was what kind of software we used for the shop. Before I could answer, he asked if it was E2. I told him it was, and he told me that over his 25-year career, he was very familiar with E2 and thought it was one of the best shop system software products available. I agree. It is a product that can be expanded as your business grows. As the owner of a small business for 28 years, I highly recommend the E2 Shop System for your business as well.

Excellent Software for what we needed.

Prior to E2 our employees worked on the honor system for hours, so we know we have become very spot on in our payroll with the use of the software. This has also allowed us to track jobs, productivity, profitability and find areas where we can drive improvement.

Vorteile

The ability to track time tied to jobs as well as each individual employee. It has helped create a solid way to verify our profits as well as bill appropriately for hourly jobs.

Nachteile

We occasionally have issues saving items to QuickBooks with no real explanation of what is causing it. Support always assists us, but it seems like a hiccup as opposed to something being done incorrectly.

E2 Review

Tracking time on out jobs was always hard to capture with any accuracy. Using E2 on the floor with the machinists has made our time tracking much more accurate and again it is always in real time.

Vorteile

We love the real time capture of what's going on in the shop and where each job is. From quoting to processing to invoicing everything flows through the system easily.

Nachteile

A few little default issues that pop up from time to time that I would love to change but are not available.

Vorteile

It is very easy to work with. Walks you through it without any trouble. Any issues we can contact you and you are willing to help.

Nachteile

1. Lists too full when you research something from the past.
2. The carry over onto the packing slip & C of C ex. "Thank you for the opportunity to submit this quote"
3.Doesn't tell you when putting in a new PO that it already exists with the same PO#
4. Not enough characters for our part numbers.

From Receiving raw material to Shipping finished product ou, E2 helps keep track of it all...

Vorteile

I mainly use E2 to help set up new jobs/parts. The ability to easily create new parts, assign material, add labor times, and assign each part to a bill of materials is what I like most about the software. It doesn't take me too long to set up an entire multi tier BOM and have costing out by the end of the day.

Nachteile

The interface seems a bit dated but it gets the job done. Inventory counts can be a bit of a nightmare but we also aren't taking full advantage of the software's capabilities. Hopefully over the next few years we will grow to take full advantage of what E2 has to offer to help keep track of jobs/inventory.

Web System Changes

We switched the the web version this year. We are super excited to be in a web portal. Overall, it is still a great product, but we are concerned of all the daily changes that then affect other areas and are not validated. We then notice areas that don't work properly, and lose confidence in the reliability of the system.

The continuous updates that are not validated, and cause other areas in our system to be in correct and not able to be relied upon.

Jobboss review

Jobboss is easy to use. It needs a lot more features and flexibility.
I do not think it has kept up the times. It has done a few updates here and there, but it has not done a major overhaul or improvement in years.
We have looked at other software and it can do so much more than Jobboss.
All Jobboss had done is add on utilities that you need to buy and they are not part of the program.
Most of the utilities should be part of the core of Jobboss. The main part of Jobboss just doesn't change or improve any.
I don't want to buy a ton of utilities to make Jobboss work like it should.

Vorteile

Easy to use.

Nachteile

No major improvements for a long time, only add on utilities or fixes.
Seems outdated compared with other software.
Not flexible to our needs.

7 Year User - I Love It

This software has saved my company tens of thousands of dollars. We are more efficient and organized. We know exactly where our parts are and where our bottlenecks occur. This is a must need software for job shops like mine. The old method of spreadsheets doesn't hold a candle to this option.

Vorteile

The user interface was easy to navigate and made the most sense.

Nachteile

Since the web-version has been released, it seems like the reporting functionality has more issues with creating food reports.

ShopBoss Review - G&G

We have had JobBoss since 2009. It was a huge improvement from the system we were using back then. Over the last 8 years, JobBoss has been very receptive of ideas for software improvement. The majority of these changes have been incremental. I would have expected to see more drastic improvements in those 8 years, but with version 12.0 coming out soon, we will see if the technology and software has taken a leap forward. It would be nice to see JobBoss focus more on their app for iOS and Android and increase the functionality of it.

Vorteile

It is well suited for a job shop and ShopBoss is huge in scheduling our shop.

Nachteile

Little issues that don't make certain modules that functional. Some tasks can be quite tedious to get through.

Vorteile

Ease of making and editing Travelers, Tracking time is simple, the logging in is really easy to teach. Customer service has always been helpful.

Nachteile

Linking a CAPA to a NCN in the quality tab. That should be a thing. Also when you create a CAPA from the quality tab, you cant edit the "Job Number, Order Number, Customer Code and Customer PO". That has to be done in another area.
The Travelers dont always refresh when you "Reprint" one in a separate tab. Very miss leading when you get used to the program and has caused errors from us assuming information of a part.

Long process to implement but worth it

We purchased the JobBoss system about 11 months ago and are about to take it live. we to the 2 day Job Control Workshop and it was very informative. The process has been slow because of how busy we have been and getting it us ready for implementation has been pushed to the back burner a few times. The people at Exact have been good to work with and answer my questions in a timely manner.

Vorteile

All in one shop control. Many sources to learn from. Online classes with learning pass have been very helpful. 2-day job control was excellent.

Nachteile

building the database from our dissembled old system was time-consuming but that was our old ways fault. the system is set up for a small product (only a few components per part) and our system is a large complicated system we have to learn how to do multi stage component jobs and the learning center recorded lessons all do just small widget examples. would be nice to have a class on large multi component job building. Need a class on Solidwork BOL uploads.

User freindly

Vorteile

The system is very user friendly and intuitive. Training new users takes little effort. Focused areas of use for each aspect of the organization.

Nachteile

All software has it's quirks. The one thing that frustrates our user the most is the inventory aspect, but we have learned to deal with our frustrations.

The price per user to switch to Web based. This cost is the only reason why we have not switched to web based.

Dyco E2 Review

My best piece of advice from my experience is have your sales team or whoever is in charge of selecting the implantation specialists for the specific companies and their needs because it would made my experience much more of a learning instead of not really doing anything that would help the flow along with getting use of the system all together. Otherwise, the other team members I have had to work with, have been amazing.

Vorteile

Ease of use (took some time to get hang of it) but overall it's user friendly. Great for data entry and data base for anything you need from prints to parts images being uploaded.

Nachteile

Integration was not easy process. For the first 5 months or so, we got a implantation person who just wasn't meeting our needs and seemed to careless about it so it put us behind drastically. We got a great person at the end who seemed to do more in one day than our previous did in 5 months. If we would have had the same person we had at the end, we would be in much better shape and actually being using the system more than we have been. It was very disappointing but most of it, I had to learn on my own.

The E2 System has provided a structured manufacturing process/system that has assisted our company in maintaining an organized, structured and documented system for the products that we produce.

Vorteile

The user friendly format. The process takes you from estimating/quotation through to invoicing . We use the shop floor and quality modules daily.

The scheduling module takes a bit longer to master but that is probably due to the nature of our busines..

Nineteen Years of Exceptional Service

We have been using E2 since 1997. The software is very user friendly and easy to learn. The customer support team is friendly and takes care of any issues with the first phone call 99% of the time. The sales staff calls/emails several times a year to make sure we aren't having any problems and to see if we need anything. They are not one of those companies that just sell you a product and then you never hear from them again. We have referred many companies we work with to them and the ones that purchased E2 really love the software. From the product, to customer service, to support E2 is a top notch company!

Powerful software that is easy implement and use

We have been users for over 8 years. We implemented E2 and went live in about 3 weeks. Within 6 months, we were using all of the modules. Support is great. We had a dedicated contact for the first year. After that, the support line has very short wait times. My questions are usually answered before I get off of the phone.

The best thing I can say is that we have not had any downtime in 8 years due to and E2 problem!

Vorteile

It is very easy to use. It is very stable and dependable.

It is very powerful. The implementation team did an outstanding job of understanding our business and processes, then setting up E2 to mirror our business.

Nachteile

No complaints. It does everything we need it to do.

JobBoss for a Sheet-metal Fabrication Shop

We have used this product for over 2 years. It took a little bit to get the hang of it but it is one of the strongest tools we have in our shop now! There is no way we would go back to our old way of doing things!!

Vorteile

The one thing we like a lot is the quick overview that jobboss allows

Nachteile

we attach drawings and pictures to all of our part numbers. There is not a straightforward way to just say "ok I have attached a drawing right here now allow it to be shown on all operations" you have to manually enter the drawings on each operation which is ok but can take some time. If this was cleaned up then it would get my 5 starts for ease of use

Baron Machine Co., Inc. E2 review

Over all we are happy with the software.

Vorteile

For us, the cost/time tracking is the most important feature. As long as you train your employees to accurately enter their time and pieces into the system, it will provide you with VERY accurate Cost data.

Nachteile

The scheduling portion is cumbersome and hard to use. This could be that we are a job shop, and aren't making the same product again and again.

Quality area

I like E2 for its simplicity. Its easy to navigate for all our employees who use it.

Vorteile

The quality area of E2 is very well laid out and easy to use. It is very straight forward and easy to input information.

Nachteile

The thing I would want to see is more filter options when looking at the shipping summary. It can be broken down well but could use more filters. The one I ran into is that it accounts all line items of a work order. So if a work has 4 sublines, it says that they are all late when in fact it is just one thing that is late.

Great ERP system

Jobboss has been a great ERP system for our size company. It has allowed us to keep track of material jobs, and get things done in our fast paced environment.

Vorteile

This software is very easy to use, make changes to. Provides great visibility to see the status of jobs. Very easy to quote jobs, collect production data, and keep us running.

Nachteile

No Complaints, it has allowed us to do everything that we need to stay running on a daily basis.

E2 is a great system

overall a great experience - we sync invoices and billing to QuickBooks -years ago we had a lot of issues with that, but it seems to be good now.

Vorteile

user friendly - many ways to get the same information -

Nachteile

sometimes when searching for something, it doesn't come up unless you have exact number - like if there are spaces between...
I'd like to print a production summary and group it by customer - but it doesn't give that option.

E2 Shop System Review

The basic software works great for our needs even though most of our production is jobbing "once offs". When we have special requirements , Shoptech offers custom programming.
They will work with us to find a solution, and their service is done in a courteous and timely matter.

Vorteile

Experience: We are a small family owned business , and we did our research and E2 was the best company to offer shop control in conjunction with our ISO certification. We have been using E2 since 2010.

Nachteile

Reports do not allow for customization for our specific needs, it can be done but there is an additional cost. We found the scheduling system a challenge to make work.

E2 Shop System Review

Vorteile

I purchased E2 in the late 80’s when it first came out on the market. It was a perfect fit and it served us/me well for my 30. [SENSITIVE CONTENT HIDDEN]and there team have always been a a great to work with.
My son just got the latest up grade, I can’t speak for him, but I believe he is very happy with the system in general.

Nachteile

I cannot think of anything we didn’t like about the software.

Very Good

Vorteile

It is very easy to use and when having an issue the support team will get access for you to let them look around in your system to help you solve the issue you may be having

Nachteile

The only issue I have is that it is more of job shop software than accounting software as in things have to be done manually and errors are easier made from data entry than if things were done automatically

Job boss helping to control the shop.

Fine tuning the product and adding in more in-depth information has allowed us to bring our company to a new level seeing issues before they happen.

Vorteile

Tractability on just about everything. Efficiencies, Material Planning

Nachteile

Vacations can not be entered in Job Boss ahead of time otherwise, overtime is paid out. Not being able to do this make scheduling less accrete. Quoting is not accrete in the system. Unipoint does not give PPM. Knowledge sync and Unipoint are a separate program. For my shift, I have 2 paid breaks. How do I pay my employees for this but have the time taken out of the job they are clocked into?

Long time user

Vorteile

The software flowed in a very similar fashion to how we processed our work right out of the box making it very easy to implement.

Nachteile

I wish the custom reporting was easier to set up at times.

JobBoss is not user-friendly. Way too many errors and long response times. Customer support is...

Vorteile

I like how JobBoss has features to better coordinate within your business and how to more efficiently run things. This is the main reason why we bought it.

Nachteile

Contrary to popular belief, JobBoss is horrible quality for what we put into it. Our company has put thousands of dollars into this Software and even bought several of the utilities. Firstly, the CAD BOM Import Utility has a character limit for multiple level jobs. We build big machines and thus require a lot of Assemblies and Sub-Assemblies. After importing the BOM from Solidworks and trying to upload it to a job, the only way to do so is to create new jobs for each Sub-Assembly which do not link to the Parent Job. In addition to this problem, we constantly get connection issues and incredibly long response times when entering multiple line items on Purchase Orders, Sales Orders, Materials on a Job, etc. Customer "Joke" Support has been contacted several times regarding this and they never seem to come up with a solution on 99% of all issues. They respond to customer requests in a completely untimely manner. This company is not customer-friendly and very well may never be. God knows how they even got bought out by someone else. One of the worlds mysteries that I will never know the answer to.

Good tool

The system works well in going back to find orders, customer tracking and works for providing packing slips.

Vorteile

Easy order tracking system, user-friendly, is now web based.

Nachteile

Adding inventory and parts is laborious.

Been a bit of a struggle navigating and getting acquainted with the accounting system part.

It seems a bit cumbersome and the new color scheme is not a hit.

Vorteile

Seems to be an adequate system for manufacturing. I have nothing else to compare it to. I come from the non-profit world.

Nachteile

We under utilize it because we do not seem to have people proactively seeking or asking for training. Could be a little more user friendly in certain areas. How to's/ suggested ideas to utilize the system. Easier access for all to tutorials. Our people expect to just be told how to do their job in it. One person will never be versed or know how the use the entire system in our company.

A great catalyst to our company!

Vorteile

Easy to use once you understand how the product works.I've been using E2 for over 20 years now and it has helped us grow our buisness by leaps and bounds. I would definitely recommend training like anything else. The training made a world of difference.
Excellent product. I would recommend it to anyone in the manufacturing industry.

Nachteile

I wish I would have started with the whiteboard when we were a smaller company. It would have made implementing the whiteboard a lot easier to earlier in growth than later. Otherwise I don't really have to much to complain about.

E2 the small manufacturing ERP solution

We were upgrading from an extinct DOS custom shop system to a windows based small manufacturing system. E2 filled the void with all the modules we need to run our business.

Vorteile

Ease of use. Simple setup of widgets from purchasing to final product shipment including the labels!

Nachteile

Customization is best left to ShopTech unless you are familiar with Crystal reports.

An Excellent Value

E2 MFG has filled the needs of our business with room to grow as far as it's capabilities.

Vorteile

It's job shop/manufacturing focus for being so flexible to a variety of manufacturing workflows, their customer service & technical support team for being extremely helpful in solving problems and offering creative solutions to the unique challenges of every business(especially ours)

Nachteile

The MFG software could be further optimized, client side tab navigation can be cumbersome at times. The reporting is using crystal reports and could have benefited from a total departure to SQL Report Builder

Adaptability between job shop type production to repetitive manufacturing, real time labor tracking, finished inventory tracking.

Nachteile

All modules are contained within jobboss, meaning you cannot break modules out in separate windows to work in multiple modules at a time next to each other. the flipping back and forth causes errors from time to time. Raw material is not that easily maintained. It only shows you total amount of material in stock, and the work around ,per Jobboss support, to track individual pieces is too cumbersome to maintain with accuracy.

Great Software!

I have used E2 Shop Control software at multiple companies. It is versatile for different types of companies. It is intuitive and easy to use. The icons on the home screen layout the processes and make the software easy to understand with minimal training. I love having one program which encompasses all processes and data, eliminating the need to re-enter information into multiple systems. This prevents mistakes too!

Vorteile

Shoptech's customer support is second to none. Every time I have a question or concern, any technical support rep that answers the phone is immediately able to help me and walk me through exactly what I need to do to fix my issue.

I have been using E-2 for approx. 15 + years

I have found E-2 to be the driving force to our success in this industry. the information needed to do a job is at our finger tips once you become familiar with the program and understand how it works. This is not a big learning curve.

Vorteile

The historical data is only a few clicks away if looking to see what jobs have been run in the past, along with its simplicity to navigate the program.

Nachteile

I do not like that fact that a lot of information is not live and the GL needs to be posted for the current month. The inventory system could use a lot of tweaks to be a little more simpler to get more accurate information.

E2 Review By K&E

E2 has been a great tool for us for the last 15 years. Its hard to think of the way we used to run our office. Productive, Simple, and Effective.

Vorteile

Time saver. All users see the same real time data. Adaptive with Crystal Reports. Able to communicate with QuickBooks and UPS software. Works great with our ISO requirements.

Nachteile

Scheduling is probably our biggest issue with E2, but I have yet to find a software company that can do any better. We are a contract manufacturer and our customer s are always changing dates and with multiple different types of orders it impacts our scheduling every day.
