While we have had a positive experience using Nakivo for virtual machine backup and recovery, we have identified a few areas where the product could be improved. Firstly, we believe that the SQL backup feature could be more robust, with additional options for customization and scheduling. We would also appreciate more support for backing up non-virtual machines. Additionally, we think that the upgrade process could be streamlined and made more automatic, reducing the time and effort required for this task. On a related note, we believe that the auto-sizing feature for S3 could be improved in order to help us save more space and money. Despite these areas for improvement, we still recommend Nakivo for its strong virtual machine backup and recovery capabilities.

I first tried Nakivo five years ago. It took me less than 10 minutes from starting the setup, to running my first backup. Everything was so intuitive, that there was no need to read any documentation. Very fast recovery at VM and file level. Considering the price, choosing Nakivo was a no-brainer. With each new version, Nakivo gets better and better. New features are added and existing ones are improved.

- Support for tape backup is a bit primitive. - Compression and data deduplication algorithms could be improved. For the same data, vSphere Data Protection (based on EMC Avamar) uses half the repository space.

Tuvimos una pérdida de datos en 2018 y no teníamos sistema de respaldo, adquirimos Nakivo y se hacían diarios, lo bueno es que te avisa todos los días si los respaldo se hacían de manera correcta o si fallaban... Nosotros no le sacamos provecho al 100% de las herramientas.

It's very easy to use, Easy to download and easy to deploy. Agent method installation are very easy.(push method). also best for the migration and replication. Retention and schedule policies are easy to configure and understandable.

Nakivo provides a comprehensive backup solution for VMWare (as well as other cloud/virtual infrastructures) which has a number of unique features in particular in transit encryption/compression which is useful when backing up over slower networks.

It isn't quite a complete backup solution in that it does not currently target backup of workstations, laptop, and other devices being focussed on backing up servers and virtual/cloud infrastructures. Whilst there are some developments in this direction such that physical machines can be backed up, it does not work well with devices which might be switched off, or sleep/hibernate during the schedule for the backup.

- We really like being able to create a backup copy from our Windows Backup server to a QNAP NAS for immutable backups over our WAN to another site.
- Synthetic full backups make daily backups fast.
- I like how fast I can restore a VM to Hyper-V, even if the backup was from Nutanix, and even if the backup storage is on my QNAP NAS.

- SQL Backups on Nutanix do not support hourly log backups like they do on Hyper-V, so we worked around that with an inexpensive tool called "SQL Backup Master".
- No support for Microsoft SQL Server yet

The UI is simple and straight forward best of all Nakivo assigns a technician to provide you with training without additional costs. The software is intuitive and simple to pick up.

Stability and compatibility with Synology

They provide great support. Over time when we had issues they always went out of their way to provide satisfactory solutions.
It is very easy to setup and use regardless of the size of installation.
They still provide an affordable product and I believe you definitely will get your money's worth.
There is a lot of active development and not only toward new features, but also in improving stability and performance.
They try to get feedback from their userbase when planning for new features.

Nachteile

We have had problems with file level recovery on large (>1 TB) XFS file systems.
Space reclaim of backup repositories is slow, but has been improved recently.

The multi-tenancy option, ease of use, successful test implementation and cost.

Its fire and forget. For long time I used other hyper-v backup solutions and the stability of the backup always was an issue, every weeks I needed hours to validate and correct problems, now I just spend 5 minutos to see that everything happen as supposed. With Nakivo its always fire and forget. No strange errors, you configure once and its done. The policy backup its great, you can create a policy with rules and when you create a new machine in the hypervisor a few minutes later its inside the backup job automatically.

Nachteile

The software its almost prefect, the only think that should be improved is the logging visibility.

Easy to set up and get running.
Flexible deployment, with the full solution (i.e. the "brain") running directly on supported NAS hardware, Linux OS, physical or virtual machines.
Getting help is as easy as clicking "Request Support" on an error message in the WebUI. A support bundle is created and sent to Nakivo and you very quickly receive an email with a case number, followed by responses from real people.

Nachteile

Better error messages would be nice - they don't always make sense.
The "brain", which is the Director component, can only exist in one place in a distributed deployment with different locations. This means that a remote site will not back up if there is a connectivity issue between sites and the Director cannot see the transporter and repositories at the remote site.

Syncrify only does file-level copy with version control and encryption. Bare metal backups are supported but this is done by leveraging Windows Server Backup writing to local storage on the server being protected and then transferring the full file (initially) or deltas (on subsequent runs) to the backup server, whether on-site or remote (and we used remote). Bare metal did not work well.
