Use Canto Flight to organize our company's creative assets

Canto very useful for our asset management needs

We started using Canto earlier this year and so far my impression is that it works very well for our company to organize and share digital assets within teams, across departments, or to external vendors. It's very clean and user friendly, and the training we received at the rollout was helpful.

I have noticed some glitchiness and lag time when downloading images, although I think that may just be a product of our server connection.

Overall, Canto does a great job of helping us keep our digital assets current and ensuring that they can be utilized by those who need them, both internally and externally.

We've been able to keep all our photos, videos and other digital assets in one place using Canto. It's really useful to send to our employees, we're a national company so people are spread out all over the country.

Easy to Organize Image Files

So far this is my favorite image/asset library. It's easy to organize and customize. I often get requests for images from others and it's so easy to share photos with them.

Extensive functionality but complicated

Very complex. Requires significant training effort - and Training effort is expensive. It would be good to create simplified modes as the rights management. There is a good solution. Canto Is difficult for small/midsize businesses. There will be staff required only for Canto. The utilization possibilities are very large - too large to manage it by the way.
Too many possibilities are hidden in subfunctions. You can see that Canto has grown over a very long time and no operating concept can be detected. The software is not logical, not user-friendly. There is no current user manual in German!

Using Canto in an Education Setting

We have really enjoyed Canto at our Vet Med college, and we have used it now for many years. We had a large learning curve when learning the new layout after our much needed upgrade, but we are slowly learning the new environment. We love that we can give our students access to certain photos so they can download and use them for personal use. Our marketing team also loves being able to have a place where all photos can be kept in a neat and organized place. The new layout is easy to use, modern, and the customer service answered all of our questions and needs in a timely manner.

Excellent software, really made our processes for networking images easier.

A Good DAM

Pros: Powerful, customizable, smart, with extensive file type support and metadata inclusion, with significant capabilities for additional support and uses by way of formulas. If your team can envision what they need from it, it can be done.
Cons: The learning curve cannot be underestimated. I've been using it for years, and still am learning new ins and outs. Also, ensure your IT admin feels comfortable with how it hooks into your network. Outside standard computer hiccups, the only "minus" that constantly grates is what protocol it uses to hook into our system.

Greatly improved our database management

As a designer at a Natural History Museum, we have a lot going on - historical and biological collections, education events, and much more. Our organization of images before integrating Canto into our workflow was challenging at best. Now we have the flexibility we need to get our work done efficiently. If I could recommend improvements, I would want the search function to be slightly more intuitive. Its no trouble now, but there was a learning curve involve. Would also like to see preview images be slightly larger. Overall very glad we're using this system!

Great Working Software!

Canto has saved so much time!

We use Canto to catalog both our photographs and our designer jobs.

Previously we only used it for our massive photograph archives.

We recently moved to a new server and it became a searchable nightmare to find our jobs in archive. The solution was to catalog them through Canto. This allowed us to search quickly and also to allow the designers to pull the assets to their system as needed. The time we use now is a fraction of the time used previously and when you translate that to wage resources it has and will continue to pay for itself.

Simple, fast, and powerful.

Pros: Very powerful, is able to manage all of our typical files, Portals is a great way to share curated images and PDFs within our organization, Version control is a life saver

Cons: A few issues after upgrading to Canto X from Canto 9

Overall, Canto is a powerful tool for our us to curate and distribute files within our organization. With multiple thousands of photos in our archive we need a simple, fast way keep files up to date and guarantee that people have access to the most current version. Canto fits that bill perfectly.

Canto-perfect for us Muesum folks!

Canto is a fantastic product that makes my job considerably easier and faster! It saves so much time in searching though thousands of images. We as a museum can spend so much time, days really, searching though images folder by folder in out photography department, it is extremely time consuming. With Canto you can search through categories and dates. For annual reports, that is key. You can also type in the name or part of a name and it comes up so fast. I would never want do my job with out it, much less go back to the old way!

We've had the Canto project here at the WMMB for about 15 years and we've been able to develop its potential as our business needs expand pretty easily through the years. Canto' s technology keeps up with how digital asset management evolves in the world today and we're happy with the relationship we've built with staff. Canto serves as our in-house, creative digital warehouse for our cross-platform creative team and also extends to our online resources for both on our Intranet and Internet.

Good Software

We have Canto running on our terminal server with an LDAP connection. This works flawlessly and is also easy to use.

The asset processing / tagging is very simple and the color feature lets you recognize new assets and can easily edit them in bulk.

The customer support is very good, the colleagues came directly to us in the company and gave us training to the software and have also done very well in the configuration of the server.

In general one can only recommend the software.

Flight Review

I like using Canto Flight due to the global nature of our organization. It allow us to easily and quickly share high res images across the organization, even though we are on different continents. I also like the fact that we can load preliminary assets for review that others cant see until we have approved their usage, or made the necessary editing first. Sending links instead of images helps prevent email bounce backs and jamming other people's inboxes

Intuitive & Visual Content Management Experience

As a marketing team, we are needy. We require an intuitive content management system that our creative and analytical partners can operate efficiently, and Canto Flight has done just that. It is easy to manage the organization of content and visually appealing for the "consumers" that solely extract the content. Great platform, overall! My only complaint is that it can run slow sometimes, especially as more and more content is added.

Great Features

Steep Learning Curve But a Ton of Flexiblity

We've recently installed Canto as our DAM system for our photo collection and it's already opened up a lot of security, search and licensing options that our old system wasn't capable of. I love that it's so flexible and that it has so many options, but it does have a rather steep learning curve that we're still getting used too. Overall it's looking to be a good system to grow into.

DAM is all around

Canto offers a great product to manage all the assets we have here in the company. You cn store, share, modify, optimize assets (e.g. pictures, videos, documents) and also use these asets in other applications without storing it twice. It really helps us to manage the assets itself and also their meta data, digital rights and so on.
Absolutely recommendable and a must have!

Canto solved our problem, perfectly!

The photography office at the museum purchased Canto to solve the problem of sharing our images internally with others in the museum in a way that was easy for the staff to use and access. Canto also allowed for the photo office to control how those images were used which was a great benefit to us in maintaining control over our images. A great fix to a huge problem.

Canto DAM - Great decision

For our agency, we were searching for a DAM. After filtering the products, which were highlighted by google, our decision was the DAM from Canto. Honestly it was as good as the reviews in the internet. The features are really great und the use is also easy.
For problems, the support is very helpfully.

Excellent DAM solution for Global needs

Canto is flexible, intuitive, and efficient at managing our firms digital assets from across the globe. We are currently using only a fraction of the capabilities that Canto has to offer and as we upgrade to a newer version we look forward to the beautiful new user interface, improved web access, and the digital rights management features.

Canto is a wonderful product that makes our jobs easier and faster! It saves us time in searching though 72,000+ images. The time spent searching though images folder by folder on a hard drive is really time consuming. With Canto you type in the name or part of a name and it comes up so fast. I could not do my job with out it!

We've had Canto for around 2 years now and overall it's been great. It can be a little buggy at times but these seem to be fixed quickly. We manage a large database of photographs and advertisements. The keywording system is great and easy to use. It is also nice being able to use the desktop client as well as the web client.

Cumulus is very easy to use. Most everyone in our Marketing Department use it for locating images and using them in their design layouts and for Web use. I've been using the software for 10 years. The Customer Service has helped me with all technical difficulties that we have run into. This software meets all of our needs.

So far the Canto product has worked good overall. the setup wasn't without its hiccups. Took a couple months to get it where we wanted it. Seems to be what we need though. I can be like pulling teeth to get support to respond to your support tickets since the new system the have rolled out several months ago.

Solid Asset Management System

We've had some version of Canto for years now, and it has made improvements over the years that make it a great solution for Asset Management. We have a very robust photography library that requires access to many people in different departments and countries that Canto helps us manage quite well.

Canto for photo services in higher education

it keeps on ticking!

We have used Canto as our DAM for as long as I have been an admin here (15 years). We've migrated through several versions with assistance from tech support and I know we aren't using all that it has under it's hood. We are a regional supermarket chain with roughly 60000 images in our database.

A great DAM solution

Canto allow us to not only store thousands of digital images, but make them easily and readily available to a variety of users both internal and external. We have not found any other solution that comes close to the features and functionality that Canto offers. This is a great DAM solution.
