Nachteile

There are limitations when it comes to customizing fields, exporting metadata, and connecting assets. The platform can be a bit "glitchy"/page often needs a reload when performing intensive tasks.

Canto has robust searchability, is incredibly user friendly, and makes asset management a breeze.

After multiple years of use, I have yet to identify any major issues with Canto.

I like that it is very intuitive to use. I took over as the admin from my predecessor and it was a seamless transition. I was able to figure out most features on my own.

I really like having the ability to tag photos, because we can find them quickly. Folder structure is great; tags help even more.

I am not sure why two steps are needed to confirm a download; this seems like an unnecessary step to me.

We love the adaptive and common tagging features. Makes using Canto as our Digital Design Library super easy to do.

The lack of a bulk-upload option - this would make adding a multitude of images and files so much easier. Also, as much as I love the option to customize Canto to my liking, there are places where over-customization isn't needed.

I love how Canto makes it really easy to download, share, and organize photos. I really have no complaints; it has been a great platform and it makes everyone's lives easier in the Marketing department!

Some of the best features from Media silo and some that they offer that Media silo does not. The brand deck feature is great and makes easy for our suppliers to get access to our assets and we can still remain in control.

Need to pay per power user, not a fan of that. Rather pay per volume used. Tagging images I wish were a bit easier.

It is easy for our hotels to use and source their images. I love the portal feature and I am just diving into the brand templates, which I am super excited for.

It was a ton of work to move everything over, to be honest. I was the only person working on this and because the file names that came through form our old DAM were just numbers, I had to go in and change the name of every photo.

I don't love how the brand guidelines section doesn't have colour for Pantone, and independent RGB vs CMYK. They always seem to convert to RGB although their values are different. This does not allow me to use this feature, as I cannot share out to the hotels improper colours for brand guidelines.

I can't find any cons with Canto. It has everything I need.

That it works as an image DAM if an asset manager does all the work of labeling and organizing everything.

Features are non-intuitive, slow and sluggish interface, no AI capabilities to link search results, no recents or often used smart folders.

I was in charge of transfering several terabytes of data to Canto and the one feature that saved me tons of time was canto connect app which enabled me to batch upload terabytes of data overnight.

It has gotten better, but initially when we started moving everything the duplicate check feature wasn't as robust as it is today, but It seems to have gotten better.

It's ease of use to upload as a content creator and to search for and use content as a brand manager.

We like the customer service, the stability of the product and our ability to customize it to fit our ever-changing needs as a company. Canto grows with us instead of us "outgrowing" the product.

We have noticed some features that we have used disappear with new updates and we would like to be made more aware of what changes will happen with new updates. Half of our company also uses the web version of Canto and we would like to see the features of SITES improve to mirror the benefits we see with the native client.

The original link of a file remains the same even after uploading new versions which is helpful for documents that need updating regularly. There's also not a file size limit for uploading that I've noticed which is very helpful. It helps our organization be able to send each other large files with the links or letting them know which folders they're in rather than trying to send large documents via email or Teams.

Nachteile

I do think the interface doesn't look the most modern and user friendly, but once you get used to it, it's not bad. It just takes a little bit of time, so when training new employees, you just need to be sure they understand the main features.

It supports sharing files with integrations like zapier, adobe, google drive, mail chimp, dropbox and more so you can easily access them in automations to easily switch assets in automation

Vorteile

The biggest draw to this software was the ability to create "dropbox" folders for my field personnel. They don't need to be registered users, but allows my team to gather photos from our projects easily. Not only are we able to gather the photos quicker, but we can also capture important details of the photos. This, combined with the metadata features and excellent search capabilities, has significantly improved our photo database. Furthermore, the integration with Adobe products streamlines our workflows.

Nachteile

The hardest part of this software is the migration aspect. Our previous photo database was quite extensive. Even using the Advanced Uploader is still fairly time-consuming. I do wish there was an easier way to migrate large quantities of photos.

The software is intelligent and easy to use. The process of uploading and managing images is easy and looks good. The customer support and help getting started has also been top notch.

This is our first DAM system and I have no complaints. So far, I only wish there was a crop and then downsample options for specific images sizes instead of resize only or crop only, but we have plenty of work arounds.

So glad we moved to the cloud. We couldn’t have made it through the pandemic as well as we did without access to our photos.

The customizable catalog settings is my favorite part of Canto. These preferences are easy to use, very customizable, and span all of my cataloging needs. It allows Canto to grow with our business needs. It's also endlessly helpful to have many different record views, and also the ability to send collection links.

Nachteile

The reporting tools with Canto could use improvement. They're not totally trustworthy for more complex searching and reporting, so we'll usually need to use external tools. For basic reporting they work OK.

We used an onsite hard drive system that was fine with people in the office but with them not, it was a mess. Plus, we used no special labeling system...so finding anything was a bear! This has changed our work flow and load. Items are easily found and integrated to Adobe.

Our team is really satisfied with how intuitive it is to use, especially with the flexibility our teams need across the state. Something that is quite underrated is how often updates are rolled out! Canto really values the feedback and questions that the users have. We no longer have to worry about our DAM system becoming outdated.

Nachteile

It does take some getting used to. With the amount of options, it can be intimidating to begin toggling with settings, in fear that you'll change something that will then mess up an organizational process or user.

It´s easy to use, intuitive and have an excellent UI, I like very much that it can convert the files to many resolutions and formats on the fly , we only need one version and Canto convert it to as many resolutions as we need and also can be edited before download.

Nachteile

I would like to have Portals with more features like Sites, like maps, and more help information on how to configure this web app.

Out of all of the DAM systems I looked into, Canto had the best search feature which was really important to me.

Nachteile

Uploading is a bit of pain. Only admin or "power users" can upload assets into the main library which means that all other user's functionality is really limited. Canto gives you a handful of admin seats when signing up, but additional seats are an extra charge. Load times, especially for videos, are often pretty slow.

I've found extremely useful to have a tool that improves information sharing across teams, including assets and their performance, which we rate with stars. Canto offers a remarkable customer support, and its affordable price and easy to use platform made it a great choice for our organisation.

Nachteile

Improved usage rights blocking/alerts. Some of our assets are subject to usage rights terms, and it is crucial for us to specify which ones are usable at a particular point in time. The current offering isn't ideal.

It's a tool that's easy to learn and administer from both an admin and user perspective. It supports a wide range of file formats and is simple to configure for automated tasks, metadata templates and user permissions.

Nachteile

Their end-user interface has changed quite a bit in recent iterations and eliminated key functionalities. The company appears responsive to client needs, however, and seemingly addressing these issues in later updates. Also, their reporting/analytics functionalities leave much to be desired.

It's great for photography, and a great way to consolidate photos with a dedicated download link.

It's not well suited for file types that aren't photos or pictures. There are no video previews, no .PDF previews either.

I enjoy using Canto because of it's ability to categorize and search our massive asset library. It's easy to set up curated collections of assets using lists or folders to share with our vendors and partners.

Having one reliable spot for all images and assets. Plus the ability to tag images and use search to find what we're looking for quickly. Love freeing up our servers and having all this hosted reliably elsewhere and accessible from anywhere.

Just getting team to get on board initially and working through the best organizational setup for our needs. Learning to share with our partner agencies and other departments involved a learning curve. Some features/abilities we want were not available (but they release new, useful updates regularly!).

Easy to search for documents and product images. Really liked that we can add fields to make searches more relevant to our business. For instance, tagging images with internal job numbers so that they are easy to reference.

Overall the sales team is using marketing resources and product images much more frequently now that they have an easy way to access what they are looking for.

Nachteile

The team really liked the drag and drop functionality of the Canto chrome plugin but it looks like chrome is now limiting some of that functionality where instead of dragging a file it is downloaded and then needs to be dragged from a folder. It still works as it should but it would be great to work things out with google chrome to get that original functionality back.

We were looking for a smart way to organize our photography and make it searchable. Before Canto it was hard to navigate the paths on our drive to find certain photos. We utilize the tagging feature and facial recognition a lot. It is very helpful when we are searching for specific images.

Nachteile

The only con I have found with this software is that at times I want to share multiple albums or photos from different folders with outside users and I cannot do that. From my understanding, I can only share photos within the same album.

I loved the ease of use, the functionality, the storage, the cataloguing and the effectiveness to the rest of the company.

Nachteile

If the functionality had more features that other company members could use it would make it an even bigger product. Features like remote work platforms, use of same features with other members.
