Canto is very flexible and adaptable platform that has really streamlined our workflows and made our materials accessible to our statewide staff across three different offices. It's also made it a much simpler process to search and find good visual assets for various needs, and to share out photo and video documentation with back to artists we work with easily.

Nachteile

The price is cost-prohibitive for smaller organizations, but the investment has been an important one for our organization in really taking good care of our cataloging and accessing our media assets. We do wish there was a function to batch-rename a group of files, tho.

Vorteile

The slew of unique functions really help alleviate almost all of the monotonous tasks of asset generation. Teh ability to set download presets is very helpful, as well as the ability to build multiple Portals for client-facing usage.

Nachteile

Some of the folder structures were tricky to get a hang of on setup, mainly due to the unique naming of having folders and albums. But the robust search tool made up for that on the user end.

Vorteile

The DAM is easy to setup and manage. The user portal is fast with a responsive layout. I reviewed and tested a bunch of DAM solutions before recommending Canto for our company.

Nachteile

I wish the email notification would allow more branding/customization. It would also be nice to see how much space was used for specific folders.

Vorteile

We use Canto in many client-facing projects that require the best most recent version. Canto does this and more with ease and with little interaction on our end.

Nachteile

The interface isn't always the most user-friendly. But it's not complicated or hard to use. Options change and can vary from device to device as well as platform to platform. Not a dealbreaker for sure!

Canto is great for staying organized. With all digital assets in one place, it's easy to find what type of marketing collateral you're looking for. Tagging features make it even easier. Very intuitive DAM.

It's important to make sure you have guidelines in place among your team for proper naming conventions and tagging. If you implement these best practices, Canto will make things much more efficient.

I like the tagging the most. Folder and album optimization is not as important since items can be tagged and found so easily.

Nachteile

We cannot use it to share images out to marketplaces, emails, dealers, etc. We can import images INTO Canto all we want, but what we really need is to be able to share these images out as well. If there was a desktop app/option that performed similarly to Dropbox's native option, that would elevate this tool.

The addition of facial recognition to the software has been a huge help for my office.

I use Canto all day. It auto-logs you out of the system quite frequently, forcing me to login anywhere from 5-10 times per day.

We've been using Canto for a bit more than a year now, and it's made it a lot easier to keep our marketing assets organized and searchable. Because of this we use the assets and our time much more efficiently. The feature to search both through key words, and in a folder structure is great.

Sometimes the download speed and response time can be a bit slow, especially when files get bigger.

I like that it is very easy to organize multiple types of assets. It is also very easy to replace old documents with new versions to ensure that the whole team as the same version.

Sometimes the search feature has a mind of its own and selects something completely different from what you were trying to search for when the mouse was not even touched.

The ability to quickly sort all photos taken at the church and distribute to other teams for use on social media and print.

The integration of our existing system was very fast. We had everything housed on Google Drive and then migrated it over to Canto. It was really fast and easy. The search-ability is amazing and has a really simple tagging system.

Nachteile

The upload time is really slow which definitely could be improved. The file organization is a little confusing since there are folders then folders within the folders then albums.

Vorteile

We used Canto as a trial Digital Asset Management system for a few months. It was really easy to use and user friendly. I used it in collaboration with our video and social media team to streamline the work of our deliveries within the organization. Once the video or photographers would upload the assets, we would immediately have them available for us to use as design elements for our work. The keyword and tags were especially useful when we were trying to find specific assets for certain jobs. I also loved the suggestions on the tagging as that can become tedious when entering data. I especially liked the version control as that is something all designers struggle with when working with clients. The link sharing was great to share with our news team and other clients as we prepared assets for certain projects.

Nachteile

Not so many things to complain about. It was mostly user side when photographers didn't use the correct meta tag to tag photos

It's relatively simple software and the installation and upgrade process is pretty straight forward. The desktop clients are very powerful and easy to use.

Nachteile

The web interfaces could use some major work. They are typically very buggy and released before they should be. Most complaints we get about the software is related to the various web interfaces. I would highly recommend moving away from Java to something a little lighter on the server side.

I like the ability to easily create branded, multiple portals where the user experience is best.
It is very user friendly where finding content is easy.
The syncing to outside file storage apps like Dropbox is handy
There is version control and duplicate look ups.
The cost of ownership is good, we can users easily and affordably.

Nachteile

The reporting ability is average. It is hard to look at how people are using the content. And only admin can pull reports. Also the Intro email is not very customizable. So the user may get confused where it is coming from.
Last it does not any integration with Salesforce.com, this would be a nice to have feature.

As an administrator of several programs, Canto is by far my favorite. The interface is extremely intuitive and easy to use without sacrificing flexibility. The look is clean and the ease of search for my users is beyond helpful. I get very few inquires from my users about how to find something (that is there), how to download items, or how to share items. I highly recommend trying this out.

We should have started with better naming conventions, but luckily mass updates are possible!

This software is extremely easy to navigate and it gives the admins full control of what can be shared to different clients. Its very user friendly and organized folders in a way that makes it almost impossible to lose track of files.

One downside of this software is the load time as well as minor glitches that cause the user to have to reload from the home page.

One of the main things we like about Canto is the ability to tag, share, and organize all of our digital assets in a user-friendly interface. this product is easy to use and one of the best features is the keyword and tag search usability. the integration took a bit of time because we had a large database of files to tag and upload, but now the organization of said assets is systemized and clearly defined going forward.

Integration took a bit of time because of the tagging and organization that needed to be done. this is one of the important parts but also something that was not 100% clarified. there are multiple places where the same information can be entered so we wonder if there might be a little bit of overlap or redundancy in this regard. Overall, this was all worth it to ensure our assets were properly tagged and searchable.

There is room for improvement in the amount of options available in the settings and preferences. They do have a process of submitting feature requests. Overall it does what it's supposed to, but it could be nice to fine tune a few things based on our needs.

My favorite things about Canto are:

-Tagging. Our company has loved the unlimited amount of tags we can apply to photos to improve our ability to search project photos.

-Sharing Photos Through Link Generation. I love being able to select whatever photos I want to share, generate a link, and then send to a coworker/client for easy download

We've had trouble with certain albums being unable to download. We're not sure why this is the case but feel like it is a problem that can be fixed soon.

Adding Metadata is about the best thing for this and the user interface on the front end looks ok.

Not even sure on where to start but as an image library or DAM it is one of the most clunky and difficult ones I have ever used. Search functionality, uploading and downloading are some of the worst aspects.
The auto word suggest in the search is painful and easily jumps to a work you do not want, once you hit search the word you re searching for does not show in the panel and it doesn't highlight where it has found that word in the Image data.
There is no function to list images by a certain number per page.
No similar image recommendation when you are looking at a specific image.

This is the first DAM we've contracted at Mercy and we are very pleased with the features. We are easily able to share and tag photos which is a big plus. The social media integration and native photo editing tools are also helpful for social posts.

This is eminently customizable, so you need to have strong governance or else you will run into organizational issues. I recommend a work group to review periodically

Organizing Files is a easy and set tags, informations and other metadata to eassily find and select files such for licence relevant use or other cases.

Sometimes Canto is down and not that stable. The longest time in the last month was something about 30-45 min.
Before that we had the servers down for like 1 - 1 1/2 days.
I work with a graphicdablet and the right click and scrolling doesnt work well with Canto.. sometimes.

Canto has an excellent set of features that help us manage our brand a little bit closer. The beautifully laid out portals are great for our other locations to be able to download without having to email us directly. The status controls help us make sure the right assets are available without the worry of assets getting in the wrong hands. Finally, Canto has a great team of support. They're always available to answer questions and resolve any issues quickly.

Nachteile

I have found a need to make certain things within a portal viewable and not downloadable, but that is not offered at this time.

There is a bit of a steep learning curve, but this is really only because the software is so robust. Once you get the hang of Canto the possibilities are really endless.

The design set up of the main page can be a bit confusing and difficult to navigate. Also (not a criticism of Canto), you have to think through the organization of your file structure and the front end and make sure your staff is trained in order to maintain consistency.
