Nachteile

ab einer bestimmten Anzahl an Sensoren, gerade WMI, werden weitere Probes (Server) benötigt um eine Lastverteilung der Server zu erzeugen. Die Weboberfläche ist ab einer gewissen Anzahl recht träge.

- schlechte Azure Unterstützung, erst mit teurem 3rd Party Addon können Services in Azure vernünftig abgebildet werden
- Die Lizenzierung basiert auf Sensoren, was schnell teuer werden kann, je nachdem, wie viele Informationen Sie sehen möchten

Der Umfang für vordefinierte Sensoren ist massiv und ist in alle Richtungen fast vollständig anpassbar.

Nachteile

Der Preis für den Wartungsvertrag steigt (wohl auch durch die Inflation) deutlich.

What I like most about PRTG is that it is very easy to deploy, in addition to being very intuitive, it does not require much knowledge to configure it. It also has an APP for Android that is very useful and from which you can monitor the services.

What I like least is that it is a little expensive compared to the competition.

PRTG was Ace in all the features it was providing and it was trusted platform in the market.

Vorteile

PRTG has allowed us to accurately monitor our network and systems as well as been the forefront of our notification system for 10+ years. There tool has been easily implemented in multiple environments and for multiple workloads for us. It has a good ability set, and has received modern updates as new technology has emerged.

Nachteile

The interface, while easy to evaluate on a limited environment, can become cluttered or larger than feasible for a quick dashboard-type view on larger environments. It provides good logs and graphs for deep dives, but can be seen as dated in it’s presentation compared to other options on the market.

Datadog is an interesting product and priced well, but ultimately it wasn’t enough ROI to invest in a switch.

Havng to remove the auto discovery sensors manually because my licence didin's allow for that many.

The initial setup of PRTG is very easy, and the 100 free sensors allows you to monitor a reasonable part of your network for free to determine that it will do the desired job - or if you only have a small network, this may be fine to monitor your entire network.

Nachteile

Some advanced features like the ability to set up auto-remediation of issues would be nice, as would the ability to use PRTG behind Cloudflare.

PRTG was faster and easier to set up and have a functional monitoring system, while also being relatively low cost.

Easy to setup and operate. Few clicks and you are able to monitor the performance and health of your network, devices, servers, IOTs devices. Not too expensive and light installation file.

Not able to run on Linux or other non-Windows operating system.

MRTG is an open source and not easy to manage and operate. Another solution by Solarwind seems to be heavy with the installation and not that straight forward when doing snmp.

Very easy to setup and to add servers to the main dashboard. The alert setup process was extremely easy and the different rules of when an issue needs escalation or has been resolved is a plus.Can see trends of issues which can help diagnosing problems.

None, love it so far. We have less than 100 sensors, so we are using the free version. We couldn't ask for something better to use instead.Although deprecated sensors can sometimes be time consuming to replace, it is greatly appreciated they keep things up to date!

there's a lot to it, as such, it covers alot of ground. I'm sure there are templates and possibly scripting that I haven't explored or discovered, but what I have used for monitoring remote events has worked really well.

PRTG works on Mac or PC! I can set it up to alert me only on certain items in my org tree by priority, and it works 100% and I don't ever miss notifications.

Some of the sensors require very complex configurations and that sometimes prevents us to get the most from PRTG. The system is so complete that it also has too much settings for each sensor which sometimes makes the work of configuring them very exausting.

I really like the scheduled scanning with templates for specific ip ranges, so that even new servers/devices/components directly are monitored without forgetting them to add.

Also the possibility to write own sensors with Powershell or other languages is very good.

Batch management is poor in some places. if you want to manage multiple servers at once it is possible at some places but there are limitations so that some task are pretty repetative if you need to add batches, or you have to use workarounds.

Although they have a good knowledge base and related documentation, there is a lack of support for the customer who has purchased a license they should have more real time support by connecting through any tool and seeing the error without so much documentation or evidence that is sometimes required by other means and more support for configurations and troubleshooting or configuration.
