It's on the heavy side in terms of resources (CPU/ram). Some integrations for dependencies management with maven/gradle were unstable. I prefered to use the CLI directly to manage them.

If you are a Scala user, IntellIj simply has the best Scala integration hands down. Yes, I've tried all the other ones including VSCode with the Metals integration. But only IntelliJ has complete feature support for coding in Scala bug-free. Besides that, IntelliJ supports other dynamically typed languages such as Java and Go very well, but I wouldn't say they require the developer to use IntelliJ as developing in Scala does.

Nachteile

It utilizes tons of memory and power. On my Macbook Pro, it accounts for over 4% of my battery use uses over 4 GB or RAM.

Along with all of its sub-products like PhpStorm, it's one of the best IDEs out there in my opinion. Excellent ability to interpret and activate suggestions for any programming language you use. I chose it and I would not go back.

IntelliJ IDEA is feature packed IDE. One of the best features are how they automatically get all the dependencies needs for a project. And also the ability to configure the UI as preferred is really helpful because we look at the IDE for a long time period everyday. IDE is light weight and not resource hungry as their competitors. Support from GIT and other frameworks and stuff is really good.

Throughout the time I have used IntelliJ IDEA I didn't find any issuue that bothered me. It had everything I needed to get my work done perfectly.

I'd liked the easy that was the instalation process I customized the IDE theme just selecting a dark one just after that I could initiate the developing process just clicking start new proyect the app lets you select between a lot of differents innitial configurations that make you save a lot of time. Other pro is the quick access to the console and I think that the best one is the bigger amount of differentes pluggins that can be installed for making easier your development process.

Nachteile

Something that is been hard it's to use shortcouts on mac, because some of the keys combinations are the same that the OS uses by default. Other thing to improve is because for example in my university some of my friends doesn't have the most updated computers and in old computers the program goes to slow, I think that a lighter version could be a good option.

The most powerful feature of IntelliJ is debugging. The user interface is so intuitive that you can start debugging at any random point in the code and quickly determine what the fault is. As it offers shortcuts to write scripts in it, it helped me save time. With this tool, development is better than average. It has a robust debugger that speeds up and effectively resolves time-consuming significant errors.

In comparison to its rivals, its pricing is a little higher. It would be preferable if you provided the user with the choice of auto-suggestion since during coding competitions, the auto-correction is absent, which is a little downside. Several users might discover that IntelliJ lacks some functionality seen in competing IDEs or that these features are not implemented sufficiently well.

It is such an easy IDE to use because it saves you a lot of time by autofulling certain commands and characters. It also helps that it has different colours for different codes and it places lines in multilevels to easier to understand long codes, which in turn alliviates chances of error. It does not take up much space on the computer.

My debugging function was faulty at first, so I had to delete and re-download the IDE.

The first thing you see when loading into IntelliJ you notice it is very visually appealing, I personally use the default dark theme with a few minor tweaks. It incorporates a window based system that allows you to have multiple files open as well as a multitude of tools included in the Ultimate Edition. When creating a project you are able to choose from a list of templates including all of the Spring Frameworks and many other enterprise frameworks. Within these template options, you can further customize which packages to include. Once you have started coding for a while you will notice the smart completion will become more and more attuned to the packages you often use. This has been most useful for me when I used the built-in documentation tool to add the package documents into the smart completion and can, therefore, use it to not only help code but also learn about how the functions work. While my projects don't usually reach the level of needing a lot of debugging the debugger is quite intuitive and it's easy to set breakpoints and check the value of a variable. One of the more unique benefits is its native inclusion of Kotlin which allows you to use both languages in the same project or even the same file and still have world-class completion and debugging.

Nachteile

My main gripe with IntelliJ is its ease of use. Its many features create a steep learning curve to be able to fully utilize its enterprise-targeted tools. Documentation exists for it but it is often as obscure as the feature its self. But once you are able to get a grasp you will find the tools are all well built and include the necessary customization which you dreaded at first but have come to love.

- Debugger leaves something to be desired, as Step Over / In / Out work differently than in just about any other debugger I've worked with (same problem for all JetBrains IDEs)

Functionality. This is the best IDE with functionality out of the box. While installation, IDE allows you to quickly customize language packs, plugins and even install prepared setup for particular development (mobile, web, Java, Android and etc.).
Hotkeys and shortcuts make this software the most customizable and agile to your needs. However, you can do the same things for instance in VS or Eclipse, but it will require more time to setup, install and use.
Deep integration with debugging/decompilation/SCM/CI tools, whats allow you to work without switching into other apps.

Nachteile

Community Edition provides the most required features, but my favorite is Professional, which is costly. The license is pretty high for private use and company as well. For big projects, IDE lags a lot. Possibly require some speed up for internal indexes processing.

I really love its code completion because that the first thing that came to my mind , and i really love the keyboard shortcuts, there are lots if them because of that i barely use the mouse its really easy to code just with keyboard, and i really like that i can change from dark mode to white mode themes it makes it easier to code in day and night.

sometimes i get some errors while compiling and it doesn't show why its happening so i have to do a restart more often, and there are some bugs while indexing after adding new files and folders to the current project, but with the new update, its getting better.

Its not a good platform for people learning programming/beginners. why? Because incase of errors, it highlights and show you where your errors are and possible solutions which is not advisable for the amateur,technically this Ide is for the professionals in this domain who know what they are doing and not any ordinary programmer.

There are so many features when it comes to writing code by using intellij ,you can use templates which are already there and you don't have to start from scratch if you are newbies ,and when you write something which is not right it will inform and give you a clue how to correct it, you can use as many as new tab without deleting your previous work which helps you to.see it back and upgrade it or take some code for your new code by copying and paste...there are many things I like about this software

For me it's difficult to pick out the weak side of this software but I know there is no product which is flawless. What I can say is since everything is updated I expect more updates and simplicity from this software

1. Sometimes it’s difficult to import new projects and build it as the dependencies are not installed automatically. I have faced this issue multiple time with scala projects where I am able to build the project from command line but not from IDE because of missing dependencies.

I love everything about IntelliJ. Key-code shortcuts make navigating your code easy, error messages are color coded which make it obvious what your issue is and where it is, and branch management is intuitive. Your project structure and settings are laid out in a way that makes changing settings to your project easy. Aside from all of the excellent functional features, I find the IDE aesthetically pleasing. Since I use this software every day, this is important to me!

IntelliJ IDEA is great for any development that is closely related to Java. It supports different project workflows and supports dependency management tools such as Gradle and Maven. In addition, it has excellent plugin support to extend the IDE's capabilities. As someone tasked with Groovy development, it was difficult to find a good IDE for a relatively niche field. However, IntelliJ IDEA offers great support which has allowed me to develop my scripts.

IntelliJ IDEA has a relatively high learning curve for an IDE, which makes it difficult to make use of its many features. I think it would benefit from a UI redesign to allow users to customize what tools appear on the app bar.

1. It's FREE for students! If you have a .edu email you can download and use this at no cost, which is incredible for how complex and valuable the software is.

2. Allows you to seamlessly integrate JUnit testing and other frameworks into your Java projects. Relatedly, project structuring is made very easy.

3. It makes refactoring a breeze. Want to change a variable name in twelve different spots at once? Shift+F6 baby!

4. The auto suggestions basically program for you, and the shortcuts let you build typical, wordy structures in a tap of your fingers.

Nachteile

It does such a shocking amount for you that it's actually a con for new programmers. Partly because it's overwhelming, but mostly because it actually pretty much programs for you with its suggestions, which prevents a new programmer from really learning the reason behind things. This is a rather arbitrary con though, and if you're familiar with the basics of Java, I strongly encourage you to dive right in.

It's so easy and comfortable building a Java application with this ide. It includes every possible feature (plugins included) and it has the most powerful auto completion and warnings system.

If you need it to work on a business software like Spring, you need the Ultimate version which may be costly but it's worth it. Also, it requires a lot of computational power to be used fluently.

The intelligent suggestions and debugging tools have helped significantly. Refactoring and making major modifications is simpler and faster than any other IDEs I have used. Smart assistance including auto reformatting, code generation & completion, shortcuts & macros, packaging, auto-generated UML diagrams, and many more are packed here, allowing maximization of productivity.

Haven't found that many issues yet. Restructuring and/or moving a project to a different directory sometimes leads to unwanted Gradle or plugin issues. Users with Low-end devices may notice transition delays and lags when using IntelliJ IDEA.

It is pretty straight-forward and if you have worked with other IDEs from the same company, it will not take you more than 2min to get used to this one. It allows plugins that are very helpful (especially the one with Scala) and it lets you navigate from class to class very easily.

As for every IDE, sometimes there is too much stuff in the screen and that difficults the actual developing of code.

I feel very comfortable when using IntelliJ idea for development especially in java. It has abundant features, and plugins to manage and implement the code. The IDE is very fast and provides great performance compared to other IDEs like netbeans etc. It is also very rich and smart in auto code completion etc. Easy to run unit tests with good debugging features.

It could be a bit hard to get used to the UI of intelliJ at the beginning. There are less features in the Community versionwhich is free. IntelliJ IDEA ultimate which has more features is pricey.With bigger projects, IntelliJ IDEA might be less efficient .

The comprehensive set of tools built into the IntelliJ product is staggering. The code editing is fun, flexible and powerful. The debugging is excellent. And source control integration is top-notch. It's an IDE that's truly worth paying for.

There's so much to the IntelliJ that you are constantly finding new ways to accomplish tasks that you never knew were possible previously. It's a good problem to have, but it can be overwhelming at times.

I've used IntelliJ IDEA for years, with a variety of languages and frameworks - Java, Grails, Struts, Spring, Groovy, Scala, Gradle, Maven, Ivy, Git, SVN. It is hands down the best Java IDE on the market today. Eclipse and NetBeans are not even close.

IntelliJ's code completion, code inspection, refactoring support and plugin ecosystem are ridiculously good. The performance is top notch, if you're used to Eclipse you're never going to look back. The VCS integration is amazing.

You're leaving money on the table if you haven't bought this for every Java developer in your organization. It's worth it's weight in gold for developer productivity.

Scala support is lacking, so that was disappointing. It can be a memory hog (1-2GB), though this isn't usually a problem with developer machines.

- Sometimes file index mechanism is not working correctly - in this case I should call "Validate and Restart" procedure for IDEA. It usually takes time even on fast computers.
- Sometimes IDEA fails updating application dependency when common Maven script was updated, In this case I should manually check/uncheck option in settings menu to make IDEA refresh code and dependency changes automatically

I really like the functions, the options and the differents tools that you can use in this software to create a lot of useful programs, projects, applications, this software provide us a lot of things.

I like least the graphic interface, for a lot of people that is starting with this software can be stressful or hard to understand because it have a lot of things in the screen and in some cases it's really hard.

I can refractor my code base easily without the fear of crashes. Refactoring has never been easier.

I love the color scheme of the Dracula theme. Over the years, i have gotten used to identifying bugs like uncalled methods, uninitialised variables quickly by merely checking the colors.

Code suggestion: it suggests created and library methods/classes/variables after typing few letters.

Nachteile

Gradle synchronization is frustrating especially when manually configuring app projects.
There is rampancy in unresolved classes hence the need to clean and rebuild projects as classes which, is tiring.

IDEA by Jetbrains has uncountable number of feature other IDE's never though about. Version Control Integration, Database Integration , Code auto Saving, Material and Dark themes, Syntax Suggestions and much more with regular awesome lightweight updates. And also it's available with Windows, Linux & MacOS. How awesome is that.

One of the drawbacks of IntillijIdea is that it requires a lot of memory and disk space. It can also be a bit pricey for some users.

The Intellisense auto-completion is just great and once you get used to the shortcuts, productivity gets boosted 10x to 20x. I install plugins for all languages that I require and one IDE takes care of everything.

The price itself of the product might seem expensive but I think it's definitely value for money. The keyboard shortcuts are different than VSCode or other editors that people use so it might make migration tough for those users but one can always reconfigure shortcuts.

I used IntelliJ while getting my feet wet into the Java world and it is one of the most widely used and intuitive platform currently available for software developers and software companies. This Java IDE is pretty much loaded with so many libraries and predefined fucntionalities which makes a developers life easier and their work precise and accurate. It is a very easy to learn platform as well provided one has some prior programming and object oriented code development experience from C++, C# and such. java is one the most widely used programming language and with this IDE one can perform easy code debugging, code replication and code management. I like that this platform is also very well integrated with the GIT and it's ability to provide code hints and suggestions is one of the best out there currently. The code validation feature is also very important feature and it helped me a lot during my initial learning curve of the platform. It is a very well maintained, updated platform with lot of database and it is widely used in the industry hence once can find help and answers online for any kind of issues.

Nachteile

There is a learning curve so if one is not so much aware of OO programming using a different tool first may be a good idea. It is expensive but they do provide free trial of the software so it is very easy to get started on it and start getting familiar with the tool. It does require quite a bit of RAM memory hence a faster computer will be ideal otherwise it might take of time to process bigger codes. The APIs of this system is growing very fast but it could probably use a little more development.

I really liked the integration with Tomcast at time to run different projects. To allow having several projects running and opening sockets to read from different ports and being able to debug locally.
Thanks to the good indexing of this IDE, it is very quick to find any class, method or file in the code. Including a nice way to navigate in the code.
It is very useful to select texts and see their values without using drag & drop, or refactor pieces of code easily.

Nachteile

I didn't like the keyboard shortcuts that weren't enough for me. Something I noticed is that for some of the common shortcuts, in IntelliJ the redefined their own shortcuts making them different than in the general IDEs' solution. This is annoying to have to learn for each IDE a set of specific shortcuts. For example the way of commenting code which is different than for other IDEs that are sharing the same key configuration.
The visual aspect can be improved.

Built-in support popular framework: IntelliJ IDEA integrates with popular Java frameworks very well. Spring, for example, it notifies me that I forget to add a bean declaration here and there. This feature saves me a lot of build time.

Since IntelliJ has many features, I find it a bit slow and resource-hungry when loading large projects. Startup times can take a while to load properly, so it can take me 2-3 minutes for having a quick look at the code.

It's not a pro though - This is the software I started using after watching open-source/paid tutorials for other languages and I was quite surprised to see every option it provides out of the box. However, I was only able to use the free version and it seems like it do have intelligent sense which can surely scale up the development just like any other IDE in the market. Paid version has only best features. Only for professionals

intelliJ is reliable and fast. The integrations between all the tools I need to make my environment work are smooth and I never spend time debugging the environment.

The integration to GitHub is sometimes a little frustrating to use. There is no support for MFA auth from intelliJ

TBH I just don't feel that there's anything that sets this apart from Netbeans or other IDE. Oracle manages Java JDK's/JRE's for Debain/Ubuntu repo's as well as Netbeans. So that alone is why for NEW Java developers I suggest Netbeans.

IntelliJ I offer as another solid alternative. Just their marketing of all the different IDE's for other languages they offer, then versions of those... Can be overwhelming/confusing for NEW users, so if I refer someone that way... I'm almost guaranteed to have a heap of questions of what version to use, should I be coding this is Java vs Python vs C.

Intellij IDE is beginner friendly.
It also have a really cool autocompletion system and makes reasonable suggestions to your codes hence promoting good code structure and organisation.
You can also develop any kind of java application with Intellij IDEA because there is provision for a very large amount of Plugins.

Nachteile

A Personal Computer with Low storage may not perform very fast when Intellij IDE is being used. Hence a PC with good storage is needed to used Intellij IDE to the fullest

Coming from one of IntelliJ's competitors, there is just so more offered in IntelliJ IDEA. The UI is very clean and is very customizable. You can customize the font, font size and even the look of the toolbars. The best thing about the IDE is the plugin functionality. You can download 1000s of plugins from IntelliJ's plugin repository. These plugins range from different server support, coding styles etc. The available plugins really put this IDE over the top.

Nachteile

The IDE can be a bit heavy and slow at times, but it is a good trade off for the customizable of the software. Also the professional version is a little pricey for independent developers.

This is the best compiler I have ever used because it is feature rich and not too difficult for my AP Computer Science students to use. They are a little intimidated at the beginning of the school year, but acclimate to it very quickly. They love the debugging features and editing ease the product provides. One feature used often is the "reformat code" option. I wanted my students to work with a real professional compiler to see what the pros use and they love it. The user-based license allows them to use the product at home as well as at school. We also discovered that the Android Studio is also built on the IntelliJ platform and that made it really easy for them to adapt when we worked on Android apps this year. A final plus id the stability of the compiler. I have rarely seen it crash.

Nachteile

The program is slow to load due to the vast number of plugins. So, it's a trade-off for the flexibility. Since you can customize many plugins, I don't think I have any other cons to mention.
