Vorteile
The platform makes communicating with team members a breeze. We have a multitude of projects and tasks within the three departments - A/C helps keep everything organized and on track. LOVE the landing screen "My Work". The calendar view is awesome for our morning meetings. It is great that we can filter by person or project on the calendar. It's a robust feature that other platforms did not have. Really enjoy the notifications when I mention a team member. The robust area within a project including Tasks List, Discussions, Files, notes, Time, Expenses, Activity is great. Not only does it encourage collaboration it fully supports remote work. On the task list, we can drag/drop tasks. Filter by assignees, tasks lists, due dates, or completed tasks. You can also review the overall project progress. A/C has some great reporting features. I like how we can star projects. Simple features like that are NOT overlooked in the A/C platform.
Time tracking, invoicing, and estimates functions look great. We haven't used them yet but we will eventually. I appreciate the pricing. The customer support is quick and responsive. Our team has embraced the platform and I feel we will continue to use it for years to come. I would recommend the platform to others.
Nachteile
Disclaimer: We use it a bit outside of its intended purpose. Our group is Marketing, Web Development, and IT. Although there are a ton of project-based objectives within the departments there are some marketing functions that are not project based. This is the biggest thing I've got it's not a deal breaker. Maybe extend the software to include flexible user accounts or setup different types of project areas. That isn't necessarily project oriented.
Minors:
Recurring tasks are a bit of a pain to setup the first time
Multiple different calendars confuse people sometimes and they end up creating a calendar for themselves.
Maybe we could setup tasks requiring a sign-off? Maybe this is already a feature and I don't know how to do it yet?

ActiveCollab is suitable for collaboration and tracking
The overall experience using ActiveCollab is smooth although there are some discomfort using the dashboard. The dashboard is something that need to improve.
Vorteile
My favorite tool in ActiveCollab is the task management feature. I can easily track users and comment on their task progress. I can also estimate the duration for each task and make various planning with the project goal in mind. Furthermore, I can also add attachments like images and documents from my desktop. The invoicing feature is also something I like as creating and tracking invoice is straightforward and simple.
Nachteile
One of the drawback of ActiveCollab is the lack of integrations with other apps. In addition, there are a learning which new users need to overcome. However, after conquering the learning curve it should easy to use. Another dislike is the dashboard which is not so user friendly.

It is a beautiful app but not that useful
It was nice in the beginning but I just soon realised I needed something with easier to use features and no hidden costs. Onces a app like this becomes too complicated to navigate or customise - you will not use it as you need to daily because of that hassle.

It had a client portal and I could track my jobs and invoice/do estimates all from one place.

It has hidden fees. Everywhere it advertises itself as only 7.50 a month. - But using the MAIN FEATURES OF WHY I WANTED THIS APP is extra, like invoicing, time tracking and using the client portal. This was not made clear initially. The client service is terrible. I would ask questions but there response was really terrible english language - not what I would expect from an international app that everyone should be able to understand. Especially a client service person called Darla. Terrible and rude manners and unhelpful.!

ActiveCollab is one of the easiest PM tools to migrate to
Overall, I really like the product and I think for any team that has been plagued with trying to find the "right solution" to their PM needs, either overwhelmed by more technical PM tools or underwhelmed by lightweights, then ActiveCollab slots in nicely as being a very viable, competitive solution. You just have to ask yourself if the pricing is worth it.
Vorteile
There are actually two PM tools that I absolutely love - Nifty and Ora, however, as much as I love them, they're a bit too "technical" for the layman to use. If you're not heavily invested in software development, they can be overwhelming, but ActiveCollab offers a really clean UI and superb UX that make onboarding new, casual users a breeze.
The features offered in ActiveCollab are on par with the industry and mean that you can grow into the product as a team without worrying about boundaries for the most part. I only say "the most part" because I'm on a lower tier plan that doesn't include things like Invoicing (something I use a different product for anyway).
Nachteile
While I guess it can be seen as a "smart" business decision, I think gating things like Invoicing behind a pay wall doesn't feel great as an end user. It's just the psychological aspect of it all, right?
If you said I had to pay $7.50/month for a plan and then an additional $3/month for Invoicing, I would be less inclined versus just being asked to pay $10/month for everything.
I think the pigeon-holing of Invoicing being behind a plan that is also a price per member can also be a crux because the functionality doesn't really change between a 2 person operation and a 200 person operation, but the two would pay a crazy amount of difference ($6 vs. $600) just for Invoicing.

Beautiful design meets functionality
All in all, I am happy with ActiveCollab and glad to have discovered it. The support is ultra quick to respond via live chat and very friendly and helpful.
Vorteile
The very first thing I would like to highlight is ActiveCollab's great, minimalist design. It is one of the most beautiful UI I have ever used. Everything is clearly and logically laid out and it doesn't take many clicks to get to the desired item.
The project management is also simply beautiful, so you don't lose track of everything. Tags and statuses can be customized and the integrated calendar provides an overview of upcoming tasks including deadlines. Task lists and to-dos can be added to each project and sorted by priority. The time tracking is also a nice feature, so you don't have to rely on another program.
Nachteile
Currently, I still find creating customers a bit too cumbersome. I first have to navigate to the "Contacts" item and create the respective company before I can assign a project. I would like to be able to add a project directly from the list of the corresponding company/contact without having to switch back and forth in the menu. An integration with HubSpot would also make work easier if contacts are constantly synchronized, because with HubSpot I always have all contacts automatically.

If you need to assign a company a project, you would need to first have a company created in the People section and users added to the company. After extensive research, our team settled on AC for its simple interface and robust structure.
Vorteile
- Simple, clean UI
- Easy to learn
- Clear structure (teams, projects, categorized task lists) that works well for us
- Ability to sort things in the My Work list, so I can arrange my priorities for the week and then easily reorder things as tasks are completed.
- Integrates well with Dropbox
- Powerful customizable reports (ex. can easily see what got done in the past week on project A, or can get a clear portrait of what employee B did for the last month)
Also, when you're in the middle of writing something (ex. a comment or a note) and get interrupted, it *retains* what you wrote (even if you didn't submit it and no one else can see it). This has saved me so much effort, since it's hard to juggle doing things with documenting them.
Nachteile
- The Asana importer didn't work for me. This resulted in a huge amount of effort migrating projects and tasks by hand.
- AC emails you every time you're added to a project, and you need to be part of a project to see what's going on in it - we use this for workplace transparency, so there are a lot of projects and the notifications are irritating
- Can't easily transform a task into a project
- The My Work interface doesn't automatically refresh when there's an update on one of my projects, so I can be in AC all day and still miss some notifications (unless I enable email notifications, which I dislike).

This is the Project Management tool you've been searching for!
I've tried at least 20 different Project Management tools, but they were all either too expensive or simply not enjoyable to use.
ActiveCollab saves me hours every week that I would normally spend searching for documents, keeping track of tasks, and double-checking things with clients.
It also saved my sanity an email-based PM system is not mentally sustainable!
I use it for work, and also for side-projects: learning new things, centralizing my store of ideas to ensure that they get implemented...the list of uses is endless.
Vorteile
ActiveCollab is far less expensive than BaseCamp and more visually appealing than the likes of Zoho or Trello. This makes it ideal for freelancers (myself included), but it could work for larger teams just as well.
It's available everywhere I need it: the web, my Mac, and my phone.
The overall workflow is insanely simple, yet powerful, allowing you to create new clients, projects, tasks and sub-tasks with ease.
Every time you find yourself thinking "hmm...I wonder if ActiveCollab does this..." whatever you try works just as you expected it to. That's a sign of really good UI/UX thinking.
Their customer support is fantastic, as well. All the people I've talked to have been real, friendly humans never bots or clueless outsourced drones.
Nachteile
The Mac app is still being worked on, and it has a few startup bugs, but works fantastically, otherwise.

Minimal Design and Easy-to-Use Functionality
The ability to create templates and clearly define the tasks for specific project is by far the best part of the software. That way when you start a new "Website Design" for an example, you can make sure all the tasks are already loaded in there and assigned to the right people right from the start of the project, making sure you don't miss out on anything. So, in general, organization

The best part of Active Collab is just how clean and minimal the program is. It is super easy to navigate the platform and figure out where everything is. I also enjoy the ability to send Invoices within it. I can't tell you how nice it is to not have to bug accounting to create a simple invoice that should only take a few moments.
Nachteile
The thing I like least about Active Collab is that you can't add emails to the platform in order to keep track of conversation topics. I understand the reason behind this might be because you can invite clients in to the software and communicate with them within it, however, I like the option of having both because some clients are more likely to email rather than to learn a new software and make notes and place comments within it.

Active Collab has a lot going for it if you are a dev shop
Active Collab is agile-esque. Similar to Trello, but better with more features and a great price point. While it is great for tasks, it doesn't do a good job of capturing bugs or issues, which is a must have for us. It also doesn't have features related to a project budget monitoring.
What it does have going for it is huge. Low price point and open API are great to get in at a low cost and add to it what you want to see, or pull data for your own custom reports, etc.
Vorteile
Two things stand out about Active Collab. First, it has a fully customizable API that can be installed on premises. Second, the price per user is very affordable. It would be a great tool to use if you want to spend the time on the API to customize it to your needs.
Nachteile
Out of the box it is missing things that I would have expected to be present. The workload dashboard isn't very helpful, and it seems like another tool that is trying to tack on agile project management where it wasn't initially built for it You can switch to a Kanban view, but it doesn't keep a separate backlog, which we prefer to have separate from the sprint work.

Good software for managing remote teams
We recently worked with a design group that only communicated through ActiveCollab. I will say the experience at first was pretty frustrating, having to jump out of Outlook where you would normally send an email to log into another system to simply send a message. That frustration aside, the system works really well and allows for all parties on a project to coordinate well together.
Since I am only the end user I cannot speak to their pricing, but all in all I think the software does what it sets out to do and works really well. I am actually considering recommending this to other clients we have.

- As an end user that was forced to use this product on a project it was difficult to get used to the work flow and to understand, where and how to start a new thread
- Not easy to see how to clear or finish a task when one has been assigned to you

Simple!
It helps me with clients that are less tech- savvy! Instead of resorting to emails fir such clients (which is soooo ineffective and frustrating where project management is concerned), you can get such clients up and running quickly with ActiveCollab!

I love the fact that the collaboration tools are simple and VERY intuitive! Not everyone needs ALL the bells & whistles and not all your clients are tech-savvy to handle to power-house of other more elaborate tools. ActiveCollab keeps things simple in an elegant way! There is beauty in simplicity! 🙂
Nachteile
What would have been seen as “a lack of features” is actually a plus in this case as this tools keeps the essentials and provides the best intuitive interface and flow that even novices get use and get into things quickly!

Best Project and task management software for SMEs
Simple UI, even a stupid person may understand after simple guidance

I have tried multiple task management software for our company, But anyhow I was not satisfied with other product because of no option to manage workload or time and invoice calculation or somehow workflow is difficult for non technical user to use.
Activ Collab has the most simple UI and Design. Only 1 or 2 days training will be sufficient for any users to understand it.
Workload segment is really simple and most important functionality it have.
And the support team is really great.
Most importantly - it have self hosted options which is utmost priority for us for data security and privacy and also we can reduce cost for our users.
Nachteile
Android app needs improvement. It doesn't comes anywhere near to desktop web version.

Overall I cannot recommend ActiveCollab enough. The application is extremely user friendly and the support staff is extremely responsive and very helpful!
Vorteile
I love how easy it was to implement across our IT team. We started using this for our project management and it has drastically increased our efficiency and communication.
Nachteile
The only thing I have found that I dislike about ActiveCollab is there is no due date for overall projects. You can create due dates for individual tasks, but it would be nice to set it for the project itself. In no way has this impacted our performance, it would just be a nice feature to add.

We're extremely heavy users. Our team of 25 live in ActiveCollab as a creative mandate. It...
Healthier and happier team... creativity up due to managers and admins kept at bay. Because they feel like they can see everything that's happening with long term and short term projects, a freedom for creatives to be creative has been a very welcomed change. We're faster at what we do and quality has gone way up. Efficiency is becoming our norm.
Vorteile
MOST: The desktop version. Structurally and organizationally sound. Streamlines workflow and allows multiple leads to see the workload and run reports on their various departments. Really helps with tracking estimated time for the individual and their part in the project. Communication is up and the stress of the communication is way way down. Creatives have more freedom and administrators and managers feel like they have the control they need. Love the Command+K shortcut we found today. We're still learning how to customize it to our team. It has made dealing with 60 national brands much easier and has put an end to the grade school feeling of walking up to the gigantic whiteboard to move color blocks around.
Nachteile
Notifications - We believe if a Project is set up and has multiple tasks that run linearly, we should be able to connect them and have a notification sent to the next person when the person before them has completed their task - An automated "passing of the baton" type of thing.

active collab is a good app for team project management with synchronization in the cloud from a server.
provides a lot of tools, such as: task management, collaboration between the team, real-time monitoring ... where we can maintain a project in a very organized with a list of tasks.
and among its tools, the ones that stand out most in this application are the invoices. It allows to issue invoices easily for the work that is being developed and thus save time and receive payments in a better way.
Nachteile
We can obtain this application with monthly plans that adapt to the work to be developed. but it depends the plan that is contracted could be costly for the project

As a graphic designer, communication is key, and this helps keep projects in line and on point. It's well organized lists of current work, status, and file sharing help the proofing process, and keeps key players in-the-loop. Time management and tracking is also a big plus.
Nachteile
Project Management can be a bit overwhelming while performing work: keeping tabs on proof rounds, comments, and new orders. The demands for multitasking weighs down productivity, so it's up to the users to manage expectations as well. There is no middleman.

I now manage my time better. I have more control over what my team does and the quality of the work they produce. I can easily generate reports so I have an overall picture on how we're doing on different projects. It helped me be more efficient so I have time to focus on quality control.

It's a flexible tool that can adapt to different work situations. Its uses range from simple task lists to time management; so you always have a clear view of what you have to do. But you don't have to go at it alone, since ActiveCollab makes it easy to work with other people. It doesn't matter if you are working in the same company or if it's a collaboration with other professionals. Or even, if you want to keep your clients in the loop, letting them know how you're doing in their particular project. ActiveCollab provides a scenario where all of that can happpen. As it is said in the name collaboration is at the core of what this software does.
Nachteile
It can become complex. Since it's a multifaceted app, it carries a certain degree of dificulty when you are first using it. Though with use it becomes simpler, since you become acustomed to its use.

I love the ease of use. Project Management software is usually over bloated with useless features, whereas AC has all the features required to help run a smooth ship. I especially love the GANTT charts ;)
I've reviewed almost every web based PM software out there. Nothing came close to the simplicity and short learning curve of Active Collab.
Nachteile
Their Reports UI needs some polishing up, since not all options make immediate sense to me. Other than that, the software works as advertised...

Working with ActiveCollab has been easy and great. It doesn't get in my way like other apps do and it allows me to focus exactly where I need to.
Vorteile
ActiveCollab has one of the most cohesive packages for project management that I have ever used. Everything is right there and it isn't too overwhelming. They really know what they're doing.
Nachteile
I would like to see ActiveCollab add a system wide time tracker to the app. I can manually put it in, but I would like if the app just monitored the open window and recorded a log.

Interface is easy to use. Plus, depending on your needs and requirements, it touches a lot of them: time tracking, simplistic resource management, scheduling, task management, project conversations.
Nachteile
The schedule could use some love. Ideally would like to assign multiple people to tasks, as well as have tasks be dependent on one another so timing can be adjusted.

Great collaboration
In the two months I have been using it, it is fantastic.
Vorteile
Really enjoy using Active Collab, a fast and easy way to stay on top of a multitude of projects within a large team. Efficient use of time.
Nachteile
The only glitch that is frustrating is when files will not upload and we have to email files through, this can lead to someone forgetting to upload later and not be able to access the files related to the project or the task.

Easy to use, projects under control
I have been using Active Collab in my organization as project management tool since May, and I have been using Trello and Freedcamp before. This is the most useful.
Vorteile
It's easy to use, has a friendly interface/user experience, lots of useful apps as complements (like timmer, slack, or desktop app). Also you can give acces to customers to see the progress of projects.
Nachteile
The thing I deal with is that tasks can't be assigned to two people.

UI interface. It is very intuitive and simple to understand. I do also like the reporting system which is very complexed and useful to generate monthly reports.
Nachteile
Add some financial stuff linked to the employees like monthly reports vs monthly payment. Stuff like that.

I really enjoy how simple it is to use Active-Collab. Everything is displayed in very friendly user interface and looks organised.
Nachteile
Sometimes i'd like to be able to search for a task within certain project when I know only the name or part of it. I am missing this feature now.

Kanban view, subtasks and subtask assignment, labels are pretty useful features to use. Also love the reminders feature, we use it to ping each other about the tasks.

Keeping track of what everyone else is working on, as well as my own workload. This has seriously helped our team leader maximize efficiency.

We switched from Basecamp to ActiveCollab this year and it's been great! Much more useful!
Vorteile
Having a spot where everything lives is great! Being able to track hours within the project management app is a real plus!
Nachteile
The ActiveCollab calendar is not well developed. Having calendar items tied to tasks is not intuitive nor useful.

Some very minor bugs in a text editor and reports UX could be a bit better. But this is just my picky points. Overall I thing the product is excellent. It is like old basecamp but better.
I wish they work more on a Trello style board to give more freedom there.

Easy to Use, and Easy to Organize Complex Projects
Vorteile
Love how easy it is to communicate with a large group, assigning tasks, and offering feedback on a large complex project. Not much of a learning curve for our team, considering we assign most of the tasks, and coordinate tasks amongst projects (we aren't the developers).
Nachteile
The simplicity is a bane at times when we require possible complex visualizations of our projects. But that sort of thing is easily solved through conference calls with our developers. Outside of that, it's really hard to find a con for this.

Ease of communication with the team and ease of use. No time needed to familiarize yourself with software for basic usage patterns.
Vorteile
Great modern UI, very responsive, no clutter. You can start using it without having to RTFM - it's obvious that ActiveCollab folks have spent a lot of time designing a very usable UI.
Nachteile
Lots of functions, so to be able to use more advanced functions you need to sit down and take your time to know the software. But once you do...! ;-)

the ability to track hours and project management is great. the interface is simple enough, our clients are able to easily navigate the program .
Nachteile
to utilize the incredible calendar feature - everything is tied to the task function. active collab is built to function as your one-stop shop for all project management, billing, hour tracking, calendar management, etc. we don't need all of those features for our company - so it would be great to just plug events on the calendar without creating/assigning tasks.

Great collaboration tool
Overall the experience was pretty good, just that the volume of users are abit too small my team which is growing. We have about 12 members initially and the 15 members plan fitted nicely but when I had my team increased more than 15, the next plan was 30members which was too many for my team and the cost also doubled for me. Maybe can reconsider to enable users to add min of 5 users - 10max to their plans and a lower cost.

Unable to set timeframe on sub tasks and assign multiple people to tasks/sub tasks

Amazing project management tool
Vorteile
I can organize my tasks, collaborate with students, and organize dashboard the way I like. Another great feature is timer that helps me with time management for each separate task.
Nachteile
There are some bugs in the mobile app, apart from that, everything else is positive.

Great UX and combination of features/add-ons/api/management
We migrated to Active Collab abount 2 months ago after attempting to work with Basecamp, Trello, and NutCache.
The combination of project management, team+client collaboration, time tracking, expense tracking, and project templates, API, and accounting add-on integrations made this hard to beat.
The UX is also the best that we've come across.
Vorteile
The combination of features, the API, the add-ons, permission management, project template creation, and UX.
Nachteile
We haven't found anything significant that we would improve about it so far.

Functional and convenient
Vorteile
The platform combines the maximum functionality, while everything is quite simple and understandable. Here there is a kanban, a Gantt chart, an expense account. At the same time, there is even an application for time recording.
Nachteile
I do not like the mobile app. It is limited in functionality and updates tasks in time, you have to restart the application. I want to use the application in the same volume as the platform itself.
