Great company to deal with. We have been using the software for 13 years.

Vorteile

E2 is a well rounded software that does quite a bit. The service team is the best I have seen.

Nachteile

Because every industry and business is different it is hard to create the perfect software for everyone. E2 does a good job at hitting the requirements but it does fall short for our exact need in certain instances.

Using E2

I have been here at HL Precision Manufacturing, LLC for 7 years and used E2 that whole time. I find it a good working software. Our company depends on it every minute of every day.

Vorteile

We use E2 for all our operations. It is a complete system that helps with the flow of all work from quoting to billing.

Nachteile

My only desire for E2 would be the ability to write more reports that are specific to our company needs.

Indispensable to our business

Vorteile

This software allowed for great advancement in our office productivity and ease of searching records.

Nachteile

Our only inconvenience is making a monthly journal entry to reconcile inventory amounts between the actual inventory, and the general ledger totals.

E2 Shop System Review

We are able to see in process jobs and control our backlog of work. This has helped J&S to triple in size since we added E@ Shoptech in 2007.

Vorteile

E2 Shoptech system is easy to use, And helps keep a close look at profitability.
Great system for the small ti midsize shops.

Nachteile

To get real time financial data you have to post. This should be updated so you can see a real time view like other systems.

Small manufacturing business ERP options

My client is the US startup for an international company. We needed our own ERP platform, ability to install and bring it operational with little resources on our side. The E2 online training and some assistance from support staff worked really well.

Vorteile

I found E2 to offer the right balance of features - to - complexity for a small manufacturing business. During the selection process, I noticed different strengths and weaknesses across their competitors offerings. And one thing that really stood out was the availability and professional behavior of the E2 Shop System support team. Who've been excellent to work with, support our business and implementation.

Nachteile

Nothing specific comes to mind. I have a strong experience with MRP, MRP-II, then ERP platforms.

Sweet and simple

Vorteile

E2 offers a very simple UI interface that gets the job done. Some people may label it as "outdated", but in my eyes, as long as it works, it's good.
Customer service is what takes E2 and pushes it above the rest. Their customer service model should be a golden standard for any company.

Nachteile

May not be Shoptech that controls this, but access via VPN would be nice.

CMF JobBoss Review

We love using JobBoss as our MRP software that pretty much maintains and produce all production going through our facility. The tools are excellent and easy to use. We know there is plenty more that we could still take advantage of using JobBoss, so many options to explore to improve efficiency and overall processes of our business.
All in all, a great software and would recommend to any manufacturing company.

Nachteile

So much to learn, not necessarily a bad thing, but would have definitely done the initial start up differently to ensure we didn't miss any valuable information to set up our processes a certain way.

Very Good MRP System

I suggest having a consultant on site for 1-2 days to get everything configured correctly. We did it on our own and had a consultant come in later to help us clean up.

Vorteile

The software itself is easy to use. They have excellent Support. There are lots of features and options.

Nachteile

Set-up can be difficult if you do not think things through thoroughly. You might have to go back and redo things again. Reports are very basic. They can be customized, but only through Crystal Reports. You will need the full version and some expertise. Otherwise you have to pay ShopTech for customization.

E2 changed everything for us!

Vorteile

As General Manager for a small family run job shop what I liked most about E2 was their customer service and support as well as the user friendly interface that the software provides. E2 is a simple to use yet powerful MRP system that allowed us to go from all manual processes (e.g., quoting, order processing, invoicing, etc.) to a fully computerized, database driven system that allows us to track jobs, cycle times, attendance, etc. With different modules you can add on when you are ready, E2 is ready to grow with your business as you need! It does everything our shop needs it to do!

Nachteile

No complaints! We have renewed our maintenance every year because we like the support and updates we get to keep an updated system at all times.

Great Software

E2 is helping us job cost a lot better. We are able to track job and employees much more easily. Accounting side is easy to use and understand.

Vorteile

I like being able to have everything we do in one place. We can do our accounting and all the manufacturing side of things all in one place.

Nachteile

Reporting is sometimes hard to get exactly what you want and to build something is very time consuming.

Great for Small - Medium Business

Vorteile

All required modules in one package and ability to customize based on your own business needs. Good software when used correctly.

Nachteile

Upgrades, if you have been a Jobboss customer for a long time and have been upgrading to newer versions, the database is not clean anymore, along the way so sort of data corruption occurs causing some unreasonable errors.

Great ERP tool after learning the general flow of the software

The ability to estimate, quote, and track job orders all the way through shipment. All of the documentation and history of the product/part is contained in a single system.

Vorteile

The ability to collect tons of data about our operation for metrics and evaluation. E2 Shop is now cloud based which means it can be accessed from anywhere and updates to the software are automatically done. It was easy to integrate a bar code scanner for quick data entry on the shop floor. The help manual is very extensive.

Nachteile

The flow and process is not always intuitive and takes some getting used to. Although the help manual is very extensive it still requires trial and error to make the software work as desired.

High Quality Job Tracking software, in use for approximately 20 years.

Vorteile

The database structure in the back end makes custom reporting and 3rd party process integration a breeze. Top notch support, and works great out of the box with no customization needed.

Nachteile

Some of the back-end is a little disorganized after decades of building on top of itself. Supports Windows 10 workstations but still have a few non-critical errors.

User Friendly Software with lots of functionality

Overall, E2 is a great software for a machine shop of our size. As we continue to grow, E2 will continue to help service our internal and external needs.

Vorteile

E2 has been our software of choice for 10+ years. The system itself is very user friendly and offers many detailed reports, which can be downloaded and analyzed for proper business decisions. I enjoy the flexibility the Crystal Reports hotspot viewer gives for creating custom reports

Nachteile

WIP inventory tracking could be enhanced a bit to have more drill down functionality and offer a mechanism to value at standard cost

No Fixed Asset Module

Good for accounting and financial data storage.

Vorteile

I like that Job Boss is easy to use. It's fairly user friendly and has good reporting capabilities.

Nachteile

The costing in Job Boss is sometimes hard to track. It hits different reports at different times so they don't line up when logically they should. Also, there is not a fixed asset module available - at all.

Our company is an ISO9001:2008 certified company. We do everything from tooling to metal stamping; from fabrications to machined parts.

The software we were using prior to E2 was not something that could easily track the functions and costs on our shop floor. It was basically used for invoicing only. This meant that we had many inefficient paper processes in place for quoting, sales orders, purchasing, inventory, etc., as well as, numerous spreadsheets to track it all.

We purchased E2 in 2005, and are currently at version 7.2.9. The implementation went flawlessly and quickly. This included the conversion of customer, vendor, inventory, chart of accounts, and employee information from our previous software provider's database. We were using E2 within two days of data conversion.

Learning to use E2 was effortless. The most difficult part of the conversion had nothing to do with E2. Our struggle was deciding internally how to restructure our administrative and shop procedures to rid ourselves of the cumbersome paper and spreadsheet processes we had in place. E2 support and training helped us with that struggle, too!

Approximately one year after we put E2 in place, we received a large customer contract to manufacture over one hundred parts for just one of the customer's locations. These parts required many, many different types of materials, and each part was set up on a blanket order with multiple customer defined release dates. To manage this customer's account using paper and spreadsheets would have been extremely difficult, inefficient, and wide open for errors.

Looking back, I don't know how we could have kept up with our business growth without hiring many people to do the tasks required of our pre-E2 system.

E2 Shop Software

Vorteile

I love the fact that progress is so easily tracked, old data is easy to find. It is simpler to keep up with info needed by our customers.

Nachteile

I do not like how often E2 cloud based system times out, and my biggest issue is a glitch in the software that when printing anything, sometimes when you "print all job travelers" it will not generate the report, but it DOES take them out of the spool. It just causes a huge annoyance and takes valuable time to go back and add each one to the spool again.

A great simple transition, would recommend to anyone.

It greatly streamlined our shop management system, allowing us greater visibility and transparency of the whole process from order review through production to final inspection and shipment.

Vorteile

- The General layout of the software and UI makes it very simple and intuitive.
- The ability to customize reports
- The expandability of the software, being able to add-on as you grow.
- Customer service is very responsive and always willing to help.

Nachteile

- No major cons really to speak of a few minor inconveniences
- No EDI capability currently, which is far from a major problem.

Get the names right

Repetitive naming conventions and Miss naming conventions seem to be the only problem

The software was ideal for the shop floor didn't take into consideration a lot of used for the Bean Counter but more for the guy who's running the shop

Nachteile

The key here is initial setup getting you naming conventions correct at the get-go is key to not having problems

Happy Custoemr

Overall choosing Shop Tech out of the 5 systems I reviewed has been the best choice we have made for our business.

Vorteile

No software is 100% but Shot tech is close. The thing that is best about this software is the customer service and tech support.

Nachteile

Being in the Manufacturing business we have a lot of items and UOM. Wasn't easy to figure out some of the calculations.

Shop Control with E2

Vorteile

The software is broken into logical buckets that make it intuitive to use. The 4 basic buckets, Customers, Vendors, Shop Control and Quality are again stratified into logical actions for a manufacturing process. All the individual bucket can be pulled together to create different reports to support the business functions.

Nachteile

Even though it is very intuitive sometimes my results are not what I intended. Luckily E2 has a wonderful support team willing to help fix the problems I encounter.

Jobossin a Job Shop

I implemented hobbies inour shop and oversee all daily functions of it.

Vorteile

Before we were entering data 3 times. Now we only enter it once. It also does automatic checks and balances for you. So we are able to move much more through our shop without overloading our admin staff

Nachteile

Job boss can be very unforgiving at times which in the beginning is a pain. However, as you learn to understand the product, you realize those "pains" are actually beneficial to prevent disaster mistakes. And there's always support who can always help you out of a bind.

E2 Shopsystem is a must have!

Vorteile

Ease of use. Ability to run estimates, customer quotes, inventory, schedule the shop, track time, job costing, etc...., etc....E2 has full capability to effectively and efficiently run your shop. We have used E2 for about 5 years now and we would be lost without it. It is a must have for any manufacturing company that is interested in having total control over what they do!

Nachteile

There is no real downside to this software. The more you utilize it and become experienced in its capabilities the easier it is to use.

Software is user friendly to everyone and easy to learn.

Bar Code scanning and routing and keeping track of orders.

Vorteile

Keeping track of orders and due dates. routing is a big plus to see where the next operation is for the part to be machined.

Nachteile

The time clock feature needs to be more secure for date entry. Anyone can clock in for any person. Finger print scanning is what we do to be more secure.

It is a great program but it does take a lot of time to get used to.

Vorteile

Data entry is easy, creating new documents aren't difficult. It is user friendly for the most part, but we are still learning how to use all of the features of the software.

Nachteile

Sometimes the due dates and units do not update while working on documents. Some aspects of the program can be difficult to learn. For example, shipping things to stock and not being able to see what is in stock. We are also in the process of learning how to connect E2 to our accounting software so that will be another project.

As a Manufacturer we use Exact JobBoss throughout our organization. Our two locations are in SW Ohio, each with 30+ employees and 35,000 square feet of machining, welding and assembly operations. Most of our customers want a quick response. So scheduling is important, as well as tracking our costs. Using the JobBoss data collection system we are able to track jobs on the floor in real time. Our travelers are bar coded to reduce errors and allow employees to scan job information from the traveler.

JobBoss does a nice job of continually improving the software. The current version is 11.5. Version 11 includes an upgrade to the scheduling module as well as improvements to other areas. Typically an upgrade is offered every 2 - 3 years with minor revisions each year. JobBoss input screens have a logical process layout and icons are placed so that you can check information easily in other areas. For instance, when entering an order it is easy to check stock status, profitability or quality data for past jobs.

JobBoss has two very handy viewers. The first is ShopView, which is very helpful for checking order status and details on past orders. Right down to when the material was pulled and by whom. The second is ShopStats, which provides an excellent overview of the company. There are four tabs, Customers, Production, Vendors, Financial: each with key statistics for the past 6 months. JobBoss created a handy system for communicating events within your shop called ShopAlerts. Almost any event within JobBoss can be designated to trigger an email or an alert to any user. Re-order material, New Order release, Part scrapped, etc.

Exact JobBoss is central to running our businesses and continues to be a valuable tool for us.

JobBoss is a stable SQL database structured ERP. Good data in = Good data out!

Some of the add on modules such as Serialization can be difficult to fix errors when users make mistakes.

Vorteile

JobBoss is a flexible and modular system that can expand with business growth. When utilized fully it can provide a complete view of order status and companywide financial health.

Nachteile

As with all database built ERP systems if you do not setup the system and your processes to flow with the core database links, you will have a difficult time getting useful data out of the system because you are not putting useful data in.

The processing and then needing to adjust the order you cannot unprocessed if things began on the order. We do a lot of custom stuff and this can be a pain. Also, would like for the times to give me a full 40 hours instead of just each days hours.

Shoptech E2 is very easy to use, great support call in, and friendly staff to work with.

All shop activities and Accounting activities are in one software package.

Vorteile

Software is very easy to use. There are various modules to meet a variety of needs. Updates are available as downloads so I can schedule them at our convenience. Support has always been immediately available and their staff follows up to make sure things are resolved. They also have Online tutorials and webinars that are helpful.

Nachteile

The customization of reports can be difficult to do on my own using the Crystal Report Writer software.

E2 Review

I much preferred the E2 shop we had originally. When we switched to the online version, it's a huge time waster and is always freezing/thinking. Not efficient at all.

I liked E2 much better before we switched to the online version. the estimation module is most helpful for me

JOBBoss programming

I have worked on many different MRP/ERP systems over the years and was previously used to automated material planning. In moving to a small company that had been using jobboss for a couple years I was original skeptical -- but have come to like it for the capabilities it has relative to the low cost of acquisition.

Ease of making changes and acquiring data through either crystal reports or jobboss reports

Nachteile

I don't like that the router template information doesn't update live when descriptions, costs or other info is updated in other portions of the programs.

Using E2 Shop System

We went from a totally paper system to E2 with not issue. We use the Sync functionality with Quickbooks and this is a big plus for us.

Vorteile

Ease of Use, flexibility, web access, ability to scale up to Shop control and quality.
Syncing with Quickbooks

Nachteile

Moving between modules (i.e. from Orders to Shipment or other) takes too many steps.

LifeLine has been in business since 1991 and has grown to a mid-size business, with a 100,000 square foot warehouse and 75 employees. We used a lot of Excel spreadsheets and manual tracking, prior to Job Boss. We also had a manual punch time clock! In 2005, we began our search for new software that could meet both our current needs and continued growth. We needed software that could integrate and streamline our inventory, time and attendance, job costing, and accounting function all in one.

We evaluated several different software systems, but decided on JobBoss based on a number of factors including cost, ease of use, service after the sale, and the ability to adapt the software to our specific setup. We purchased JobBoss, including the accounting and data collection modules, in March 2006 and provided ourselves with a nine-month window to implement it, going live on January 1, 2007. Implementation went well, with no major problems. We purchased and used 32 hours of on-site consulting to assist with the implementation, which I highly recommend. The consultant saved us a significant amount of time with implementation by providing one-on-one training, explaining set up options that similar companies successfully used, and helping us with importing data.

We also took advantage of the free on-line training available through the portal. Fast forward to 2012, we have been extremely happy with the overall service, tech support, software upgrades and efficiency that JobBoss has provided our organization. JobBoss has eliminated the manual tracking and reporting system we previously used, has provided us with accurate job and labor costs, and continues to support our business needs as we continue to grow.

E2 Great System for Machine Shop

Vorteile

Easy interface, large font, easy to read, excellent support, upgrades very easy across all computers!!!

Nachteile

Very few cons with this system as its probably the best value on the market for a machine shop with under 100 employees.

E2 Shop System: Asset to Our Business

Vorteile

We have been using E2 Shoptech system since 2006. It has turned our shop around and helped to compile accurate time tracking on jobs & employees. We now have an accurate inventory with current costing. It has streamlined our business.

Nachteile

An addition of spell check would be helpful at times.

7 Years of E2

Vorteile

The ease of use and layout of the system make working... as if you're not working! With quick-keys, you can zip from one screen and onto another to get more information on the subject you are inquiring about or make immediate edits. The E2 system can hold so much info on items stored within it that it is too bad that we do not take advantage of it.

Nachteile

There appeared to be glitches within the database, but after 7 years of investigation, I found that the issues were the cause of multiple users making changes to a particular subject (to the item itself, a job, an order, etc). I wish that the E2 system would have warning pop-ups, like ones you see on website forums ("there is a new post... do you wish to read it before submitting yours?"), which gives a user acknowledgement that information has been changed by another user prior to submitting any other changes.

Shoptech upgrades are of no value and they charge greatly for their annual support renewal. There is no spell check in the quoting module, no billing address alternatives in AR, no easy way to check previous pricing in purchasing mod, financial mod is not always accurate, need to repost.

Vorteile

It is easy. Easy to get into trouble deleting information especially in the AP Mod. Check writing Mod has a glitch that affects GL Mod. AP Mod doesn't match due to GL Mod. A mess.

We are trying to fit a round object into a square hole..doesn't work

Great for Tying Everything Together

Vorteile

Coming from a Quickbooks based operation I have found this software to be 1. more user friendly and 2. so convenient to keep track of all different aspects of a job/shipment. No longer do I have to make notes to "remember" to charge a customer for this service or that part - it all ties together!

Nachteile

Right now, the only thing I would like would be to able to select a previously used part from the search field when entering a quote.

What I like most about this software was its ease of use.

Nachteile

Wish there were more report options. I wish that financials could be run on the fly, I have to keep excel document to track my estimated financials throughout the month, or close out the month temporally to run a report.

Excellent Product

Our company handles low quantity tight tolerance machine work. We switched to E2 from our previous system in April 2011 after seeing a demo of what E2 had to offer.

The implementation went fairly well considering that none of us had used E2 before nor did we take any classes. It is important to stay open-minded and work with tech-support to find the best solutions for your company. I highly recommend having someone on your staff that is very computer literate and has past experience with databases and ERP. If you don't have a tech wiz working at your firm, you should take the classes offered.

We use almost every aspect of the software including accounting. My personal favorite is the inventory system. We have all of our new tooling (endmills, drills, inserts, etc.) in cabinets organized by barcode. When a machinist needs a tool, he goes to the cabinet and scans the tool out to the job he is working on. The cost of the tool goes to the job so that we can see what jobs use up our tooling and if we need to adjust our pricing. It also lets me know when I need to reorder the tools automatically. I can just click a button and a PO is generated with all of the tools below our min/max levels. I review the PO and click send and our inventory is replenished.

Customer support has always gone above and beyond to handle our technical issues. Many times, they can log into your system via WebEx and fix the problem while you watch on the screen. They have always handled our requests promptly.

If you want to grow your business, organization and set procedures are key. E2 is our tool of choice for streamlining our manufacturing procedures. We are now working on acquiring our seventh seat.

Office manager

I have had good and bad from JobBoss. However, the good has out weighted the bad.
Basically, it comes down to who you get on the support line. Sometimes inexperienced support has messed me up big time.
But overall your support team has been very knowledgeable and patient.
Your product is cutting edge and keeps pace with technology.
Your Payroll product is the easiest to learn and navigate that I have used. I love Jobboss payroll.

Vorteile

Cutting edge technology and support are responsive.

Nachteile

Upgrades have been difficult, bugs are often the norm.
Annual support is costly.
