Vorteile

The main benefit of this software is that is online, which means that you do not need dedicated software to open it and you can work from anywhere at anytime. It has a great autosave and autosync features to keep everything up-to-date between your different devices.

Nachteile

To use it properly, you need constant Internet access. This may be an issue if it is slow or intermittent. The performance impact of the software is relatively minor, but it has to be mentioned; you still need a decent device to properly work with the software without lagging.

Vorteile

Flexibility, Installation, Low Cost, & Excellent Data Management built in. Easy to learn, I really like the training videos and tutorials.

Nachteile

Still lacking some more advanced functions but it is getting better every month, cloud based is not received well by some of our customers.

Easy to collaborate, easy to pick up and get started. More features are being developed and added. Pretty intuitive.

Mating parts together in assemblies vs creating multiple parts in one studio can get messy; took me a while to figure out how to arrange and organize pieces

this app surprises me for good, nothing to envy to the other parametric 3d CAD programs, it is excellent, I can make complete designs on the tablet then print them in 3d I am impressed

When the internet goes down I have nothing. Mating parts seems to require a lot more scrolling in and out as compared with SolidWorks.

That I can cad anywhere. It's truly awesome. The tablet and phone interfaces work incredibly well. I'd love to see a VR version. (It'd give me a reason to get a rig at work)

The lack of folders for features in the part studio. Some of the other features I'd like to see are still not there but the speed of development on the platform is great. I'm sure I'll eventually see them.

Missing some features especially for pressure vessel design. E.g. wrapping a reinforcement plate around a spherical part.
We try to use the interface to adopt our pressure vessel calculation to Onshape. This will anable our customers to use onshape. However, the interface is hard to program.

User friendly. Especially version function and sharing function. Is very useful for group design project or sharing with third party

Nachteile

Some function is not powerful enough such as create drawing new drawing plane on a curve.
Support is limited especially in Oceania time zone countries. Support normally match with US Eastern time zone

Able to access it and design from anywhere, any time or place via computer, tablets and smart phone. Excellent for showing, sharing and designing in real time with customers.

Nachteile

Nothing to report negatively for now. I would like the 3D sketcher function to be implemented similar to the way it works in Solidworks. We use this alot in our product designs with our induction engine products.

I like the portability the most. I can work on an view the software on different computers and the th Ipad. I've also really enjoyed using the iPad app.

Nachteile

I was very unhappy that they moved away from the month to month model. This was one of the most compelling features. I could pay for the month I use it and not pay the ones I don't with out this, it begins to look like a watered down version of Inventor or Solidworks for not much less.

I have used onshape in both my laptop browser and iphone app. It was easy to pickup how to use the software and I was 3D printing parts I had designed about an hour after creating my account. The biggest pro is that you do not need a powerhouse computer to run onshape, just about anything works since it runs in the cloud.

It took a few minutes for me to enable webGL on my browser, but after that I have no complaints.

Sometimes nice to use CAD offline, online requirement is a drawback.

Onshape is very easy to use. The learning curve balances the suite's power with an intuitive UI that makes using the system a piece of cake for both amateurs and pros. It also offers a free tier to let users test its capabilities.

Nachteile

That said, the free tier is limited and is followed by a steep monthly price tag if you want to take advantage if more storage space and private designs.

I like the constant updates. There is no yearly version, and thus no incompatibiltiy issues between yearly versions. I think controls and keyboard shortcuts are very intuitive and easy to learn. Since everything is on the cloud, I don't have to worry when I have to use Onshape on another computer (which happens frequently). Sharing my models with others is very easy.

Nachteile

Mirroring subassemblies isn't possible. Sometimes my internet connection is not great and thus Onshape begins to fail. I would rather have the traditional approach to CAD of creating parts and putting them together in assemblies.

Vorteile

I love that my designs are cloud-based. I can hop on to any device including my phone and start editing.

Nachteile

The usability on a phone or similar device is buggy. Sometimes features work sometimes not. Selecting content was difficult as well but it could be my device and not the app itself.

Vorteile

This software is gernerally more straightforward and easier to use then previoud CAD software I have used in the past. It does allow for me to do the maojrity of things I would typically do on my more robust sfotware. Overall great sfotware easy to use and worth the use.

Nachteile

My biggest complaint is the fact that the software does not have all the features that I would use. However, this is understable as it is a web cased CAD software. Overall not many complaints on this one.

The interface is intuitive. Within the use of each tool, the options are clear and the workflow makes sense relative to your thought process.

Nachteile

More surface editing tools would be helpful. The latest additions to the software in this regard have been helpful. I would also like to import fonts.

It's intuitive structure it's clutter free tool pallet. being able to log on anywhere I am.
My job is mainly selling our services and experience as a small precision engineering company owner manager. Non engineering people and engineers come to me looking for prototypes and
solutions. With onshape I'm able to provide quick models so they can see the solutions come to
light. Its the speed of model production combined with a 'design intent base' that provides the solutions.

Nachteile

That I don't have enough time to use it properly.
I would like some form of folder system for customer and folders for specific projects.
maybe that's there already but I just haven't got to it

Ease of use compared with using other products, the low cost of this 3d design solution is ideal for anyone wanting to get into 3d modelling

Learning a new program always takes time, probably as I have been used to using solid works and Inventor it took a nice while to get used to the commands and certain ways to complete tasks.

This CAD platform is both easy to use for transitioning CAD users and easy to learn. Also, it makes sharing simple. Desktop versions are complicated.

Nachteile

OnShape needs to continue to add features such as Project/Document folders. Also they need to find a way to make simulations more accessible.

I love the fact that it is accessible through any platform such as PC, Mac phones or tablets. I also like how quickly it has evolved over time

Nachteile

Onshape can be slow at times, especially when importing large assemblies or with a feature rich model tree. I also find a lack of advanced features commonly found in Solidworks and Creo that force the use of 10 features for what 1 feature could do.

Vorteile

Onshape has all the functionality I need, but the ease of use blows all other CAD programs out of the water.

Nachteile

Usually anything I find that I dislike is due to something I haven't learned yet, but I don't like that the entire part turns yellow when I click on one of its surfaces to constrain it.

I love working on the cloud as it allows me to multitask very effectively without massive computing power. I also like the ability to share documents with customers and collaborators effectively.

There are some fairly common features available in other packages that are still not available in Onshape, but I'm sure they'll be coming soon.

Access it from anywhere, makes it easy when talking with customers. Simple to use and flexible for all the tasks I have had to use it for.

Would like some better control over lofts and sweeps to make more complex features. Continue to build on areas like sheet metal and consider adding in a "mold" module for injection mold design.

I only know onshape a cad tool, so I don't have much to compare with. There is a lot available training on YouTube, and invites from Onshape. I like the recording of sessions, for better timing of my lessons.

Nachteile

I got problems with solid functionality when exporting to step. I have reported the bug, but have not received any feedback

Compared to CAD program, it is very convenient that we can access and format drawings on ipads, phones, and web. The software is updated regularly and new features have enhanced its use and applicability. Great option for small design companies and less costly.

Nachteile

It is difficult to use in large architectural projects and offline access to the model.

Ease of use, intuitive , collaboration capabilities, online based - applications store is excellent - love the fact I can add functionality on a use (time) basis. Support is excellent and super responsive. iOS apps are well designed and laid out. Pricing is very competitive.

Nachteile

No offline mode - I know it needs a connection, but as a avid sailor it would be nice to work without a cellular connection, as one is only available close to shore. Could there be a offline mode like fusion 360? Also it does require a decent internet connection, so even if i have coverage, sometimes it takes a long time to load the models.

Sometimes face performance issue and unable to track the same.

Easy to use. On-screen renderings look beautiful. Great version, branch control. Cloud availability and automatic backup.

Its slow: lots of spinning wheels. Drawings lack important features necessary for general ease of use and to create good engineering documentation for use with suppliers. Sheet metal capabilities are limited even in most recent version (we have production parts designed in SolidWorks that Onshape simply can't model - even after sending them in for review at Onshape)

I like that I don't need to install anything, and if I want to share a model, the person who I'm sharing with doesn't need to install anything either. I can also do CAD work on Linux just as well as Windows!

Nachteile

It feels like the "official" release came too early, i.e., didn't have enough features, like sheet metal tools, drawings, etc. It also seems like the branching and merging strategy had good intentions, but is not quite to the level of flexibility that software version control systems (Git) give.

Ability to CAD anywhere. Like 80% of the functionality of Solidworks, which is pretty OK for most day-to-day stuff.

Nachteile

Need to kludge ways to handoff drawings to vendors, no real linking between CAD file and drawing files. No libraries of commonly used parts (only gross third party addons). Poor surfacing tools.

Unlike other CAD systems I've used in school, Onshape has been way better to understand and use, without the guidance of a teacher to help. The movements, shortcuts, and all the features help me complete projects, efficiently, and in great haste.

Nachteile

For those that haven't used CAD programs or don't use them often like me, I wish there was a longer/ more in depth tutorial system that told you more about all the commands. I still took me some time to be able to understand the system before attacking a project with it.

A great CAD service that is similar enough to learn fast with superior mating and sharing capability. The cloud based strategy is great for modern engineering. the mating system is superior to solidworks in my opinion.

Nachteile

Using the internet/cloud is a double edged sword, the positive is you can use a lower spec'ed machine (or even a phone or tablet) but you can't work with no connection. rare but severe downside.

Overall it was easy to get up to speed coming from other CAD packages. Modeling is familiar and intuitive.

We don't have fantastic internet connection so I find myself waiting for the software to catch up sometimes.

Very simple to use, especially with watching the tutorial videos. Can make simple 3D models in a snap.

Overall I am pleased. OnShape is constantly improving. There were some things that I wasn't crazy about, but they have updated greatly.

The drafting section is getting better but has a way to go.

Easy to use and easy to understand from the outset. Very easy to create simple models, hitting the ground running.

Not so easy to execute advanced commands. UI seemed too dumbed down to really intuitively lead the user to access advanced features, which essentially reduced it to as complex of a software as any other CAD modeling program.

I love how I don't have to download anything, and that I can use it on any computer. I can start a project at work and look at it at home.

Nachteile

Still under development so some features don't work quite right, but not a big deal. Still a great product!

The separate parts studio and assembly areas seem redundant for my purposes (relatively simple furniture); drawing capabilities are good, but isometric views seem limited (only one perspective available?); I don't find mating to be intuitive, but I do find this statement hilarious.

Vorteile

The ability to have version control on top of multiple users interacting with the model simultaneously is fantastic. Version control is easy to use, and the ability to merge different forks of the design is helpful. Onshape also has all the needed functionality for a basic CAD package.

Nachteile

There is little to detract from the software. It does what it needs to do for a great cost. There are a few features in other CAD packages that aren't really missed.

It's very easy and intuitive to use. It took me very little time to get comfortable and be productive. It also works seamlessly with my 3D printing tools.

Nachteile

I wish organic shapes were easier to create, and that curves didn't have to be restricted to a 2D plane, because it restricts what I can do in creating organic shapes.

Also, making arrays feels obtuse and I wish they were more resilient to changes.

When points overlap there doesn't seem to be any way to select the point that I want.

The feature list and parametric values are great. They make it easy to adjust models based on design review and client needs.

Nachteile

Drawing functions and have room for improvement. File structure and transfer between projects could also be easier.

Easy modeling and sketching in Onshape on any device. It is compatible with Windows, Mac, IOS, and Android. It is easy to collaborate with others using the provided cloud storage. You do not need to install any software when using Onshape on a computer.

Nachteile

Different modeling types are still being developed. Sheet metal in particular is a problem on Onshape.

The software can run slowly in some browsers, it seems to work best in Chromium-related ones.

The shortcuts are easy to use and allow me to be productive with my work. The recent functionality of surfacing as well is a fantastic addition and I believe will change the game for onshape.

It can be slow at times despite having good internet in the office. I also feel like it is lacking accuracy and control with some sketching and the ability to 3D sketch would be beneficial.

Great cloud based design software with essential tools to help designers create detailed 3d models quickly. The live collaborative part is super helpful when you have multiple people working on the same file. It also tracks what changes were made by which user.

Nachteile

User interface could have been more intuitive. The software takes a lot of ques from Solidworks which is not the primary design software for many architects. Take some time to get used to the work environment. It is also difficult to create 2D drawings.

Vorteile

I really like the architecture for creating multiple parts within the same file. The cloud-based integrated PLM solution is really the what I need. I love the ability to just send a link for my client to review CAD.

Nachteile

Nothing. There is a bit of a learning curve in regards to document management as it is a paradigm shift.
