Vorteile

It is could based. You never have to save, nothing is ever lost. It takes some getting used to if you are coming from another system, but I recommend it to friends all the time.

Nachteile

The features have been coming pretty quickly, but for me, a lot of the ways I am used to doing things have to be done a different way or occasionally (but less often lately) can't be done. Specifically with surface modeling

Vorteile

Constant improvements to the product / capabilities, great communication with users, and excellent service.

Nachteile

No ITAR support. Performance can still be an issue based on the capability of the machine / graphics card. It limits where my team and I can access the tool.

Vorteile

The leaning curve was so fast compared with other 3D modeling programs

Nachteile

I think It does not have the community benefits of programs such as auto cad and solid works

The simplicity. Such as the new color on each new part, makes it much easier to understand the model.

Nachteile

Cant select sketches inside a solid part for extrusion, have too hide it first. That it cant be used without internet :/

Being able to import and use existing data quick and efficiently.

Being able to share designs with customers, which enables reviews to be completed over the phone, saving the time of travelling to and from meetings.

Being able to share models & assemblies with suppliers, increasing their understanding of what is required, and allowing them to check any areas which are not clear to them in the drawings. Thus reducing the amount time answering drawing queries.

Nachteile

Having to make separate documents for a project to share information with customers and suppliers, etc. Project information then becomes disjointed. Sub-document, folder, or some other method to keep project information together, but enabling sharing at this level would be easier to trace.

Having to duplicate drawings of manufactured library parts in order to share with suppliers.

Vorteile

The fact to have everything online! being able to access all my project from everywhere. And access all the history of it!

Nachteile

The price is a bit expensive I think, it would be nice to have a price depending on the number of day use, let say I am using it only 15 days per month, I would pay the pro-rata.

Cloud based and intuitive. Great UI and easy to pick up quickly. Nice work! Appreciate the speed of uploads too

Sometimes it takes a long time to digest cad files with certain formats. It would be great if this is more instant.

I like the cloud based idea which makes it really easy to share documents with the team and not have to worry about saving it or anything.

Nachteile

It is still limited for a product designer because of its lack of surfacing. I have tried to use the app for surfacing but it is a bad interface and I prefer patching instead of sculpting.

Cloud based and the ability to instantly access or share your models from anywhere. Simple user interface made and soludworks export made transitioning extremely easy.

Nachteile

Seeming inability of the software to handle complex surfaces and mid sized assemblies. After about 20 operations on the part (s) any further changes took a significant time to propogate through even a small assembly

Onshape is a cloud based cad designing software which gives freedom to work on any hardware platform such as web browser, tablet computer,mobile phone etc.because of this freedom user can do cad drawing by using stylish pen or using touch inputs.This is a great advantage for most of the cad designers because they can comfortably work on their idea to make it a reality.The facility of simultaneous access to the designers in a group work is another huge benefit during the design stage.

Nachteile

Scince the software is in its early stage some of the tools and functions that can be seen in other advance can design software cannot be seen in this yet.

Vorteile

Features Script. Frequent updates. Branch and merge workflow. Browser based to avoid CAD stations. Excellent UI. Intuitive pan, zoom, rotate. All important features are covered.

Nachteile

Documentation of Feature Script. Missing some features; however, I'm not blocked on anything missing. The feature list in the parts studio could use some work for searching, reordering, and grouping.

Vorteile

One sketch can just about capture your entire project. One document is like a briefcase with all the information needed to produce your product. Just about any file can be attached, not just an Onshape file.

Nachteile

No configurations for assemblies or parts. Bom tables to balloons don;t talk to each other. Parts in drawings are not dynamic, you cannot see it's part number by clicking it.

Vorteile

OnShape's interface is very user-friendly compared to other CAD programs that I've used but similar enough that it feels familiar.

Nachteile

I haven't hit any major blocks or drawbacks, but there are occasionally features or tools that are limited or missing.

Vorteile

Cloud benefits such as no file management, version control and the ability to work collaboratively. Pricing is also much better than competitors, and allows us to easily add team members.

Forward thinking approach to CAD with many innovations

Nachteile

Onshape is not as developed as more mature CAD software, such as SolidWorks. Not all features are available yet, however every couple weeks new functionalities are added.

Vorteile

The ability to work from my phone and talk on it at the same time. How easily it interfaces with other programs.

Nachteile

The learning curve of a new CAD. I am faster in the other CAD, so I tend to use that one more than Onshape.

Vorteile

The online capabilities of Onshape are what I like the most. Sharing, multiple users on a document, no crashing, etc. are awesome features!

Nachteile

Some CAD features are still lacking in Onshape, but they are quickly working on improving it. I also am still adjusting to the mating system that Onshape uses (Mate Connectors), but with time I will adapt to it.

It is very functional, pretty simple in use an not expensive. Very good for small business, where the product isn't too complicated. Also flexible subscription policy allows you to Dave money.

Nachteile

Sometimes it hangs up and requires page refresh. However, it happens not too often. Also some "how to" s would be improved to better understsnd

This product can be useful when having to build an on the run object or design, especially when a download of the software is not required and you can access it anywhere on any computer.

Nachteile

In order to be able to maintain a decent amount of designs in private, a purchase of extra space is required, otherwise your work will have to go public with an unlimited amount of space.

Cloud based, web browser based, many CAD tools and features available, inexpensive compared to other mid range CAD systems, great support, and no admin of CAD software on local machines

Nachteile

Often works rather differently than other CAD systems or has quirks in the same commands common to other CAD programs. Within Onshape, commands that are common to modifying a solid and a sketch (for example, add a fillet) act quite differently in the two areas. Adapting to these quirks makes it hard to quickly come up to speed and somewhat frustrating.

Vorteile

Efficient and good value at most things. For example, it is very efficient at building several parts based on limited sketches (which can also be related). Mate connectors are better, when you get used to them.

Nachteile

I have been working in a very complicated assembly with a large number of features, and it was taking 15 seconds to update even a simple feature. This becomes very expensive, although we may now have a way of mitigating this issue by spreading the features across more part studios.

Vorteile

As designs get bigger, its faster to have more than one person working on it. and this is where onshape shines. showing the others persons work in real time is a huge benefit when designing systems that are big enough to have more than one person on them. 100% worth checking out for that alone!

Nachteile

its similar to solid works, so the workflow is a bit weird if you are used to inventor.

Vorteile

Onshape allows me access to my files from any computer on the Cloud making saving files a thing of the past.
Very good sheet metal functionality. Like the fact that you can generate the folded form from a block.
New releases every six weeks or so!

Nachteile

Some commands have not caught up with other software yet. But Onshape will get there.
Would like to see more compatible products such as rendering etc

This is a great package that has not left me unable to do any of the tasks that I have had.

Being able to get up from my desk at work and continue later at home, has reduced my hours at work without affecting my ability to produce.

Nachteile

Sometimes slow to open a document.

Lack of a point to point assembly relationship

Would like to write my own BOM to database (not excel) application, but do not have time to learn java. Is these someone on your side that would do it for me (for a fee)

Vorteile

Working in the cloud across multiple (portable) devices. Project document organization. Training material quality. Support responsiveness. Easy import from other CAD systems. Easy sharing with a link.

Nachteile

Couldn't find exploded view feature in drawings. Couldn't find part configuration feature. Linked documents are confusing to modify. Miss being able to run offline when my client doesn't have good wifi.

The colaboration tools are above the curve. Forget emailing edrawings and setting up conferences with desktop capture. It's all built in! They can even leave comments or directly edit if you let them.

Missing a few key functions to be a true replacement package. But every 3 weeks they add a bunch of new features.

perfect for beginners to full on professionals, OnShape allows you learn 3D modeling in an extremely forgiving and function filled environment.

Nachteile

if you're experienced with other software such as SolidWorks you might find some of the abilities of OnShape lacking... That being said the developers for OnShape are constantly pushing through updates with more features.

Onshape is a very powerful online CAD software which include cloud sharing of project files and have all the basic tool you would never need to design anything.

Sadly it is not free anymore so for hobbies users now it's basically impossible to use it and it's now only for big corporation

The continuing support from the webinars for existing and new features is second to none. They are precise and clear. I always have new methods to try after watching one.

The main problem I have is:
No internet = No Onshape
A simple method of presenting designs to management teams would be use full. They are not interested of looking at loads of function icons. They only need to see the design.

Vorteile

Easy to learn and always works.
Easy to output the designs in suitable formats.
I can give access to people who don't own the software - customers, partners etc.
Community to answer questions.

Nachteile

Sometimes I'd like to be able to use it offline e.g. In a plane.
The phone version is useful for viewing but pretty limited for design mainly because of screen size.

Vorteile

Having all of our files in the cloud well laid out and easy to identify has expedited our engineering efforts and made work simpler. In addition, being able to pull up models on any device has proven valuable in several situations. The ease of use of the system is what really initially attracted us to the system and is what has kept us on it.

Nachteile

Onshape is missing some functionality from systems like Solidworks. This leads to some issues in getting contractors/freelance work done as some engineers feel like they can't do what they need to do.

To be able to work from anywhere and quickly complete your assignments is just great. Never thought of working from iPad or netbook. It has changed the way CAD systems were used earlier. Good part is the Training for new users to get used to the tool.

Nachteile

The only thing which might be concern for those who have internet issues. It cannot be used without it.

No install, no monster desktop machine needed, runs on mac, always up to date, no save needed, and no risk of losing work if it crashes... I mean that's awesome!

since the software is young it just doesn't have all of the tools I need for everything that I could find in a tool that's been around for a decade

Nothing to install, runs on nearly any platform and can be accessed anywhere online. Also combatible with nearly any cad file type.

Pricing is too high per month at least for my specific purposes. Although given a larger business context I think the pricing works.

Ease of use. UI. Accessibility from many devices and inherently always the latest rev. High rate of development and frequent, automatic, seamless updates. Excellent support team and tutorial videos.

The fact that I can manage my designs whereever I am. Ipad, iphone, computer, etc.. It lets me tweak my designs whenever I have the idea or the fix. I could be standing right next to the object I am working on.

Nachteile

Money for the level I am using it at. I needed one private design because of NDA, but the rest I don't really need to keep secret. :(

This is a modern CAD package benefitting from decades of development without the burden of tons of old code. Very efficient. Very user friendly.
Modelling some of the time on a big iPad Pro is something of a revelation - I actually prefer modelling in the sofa now!

Nachteile

Some useful features that are available in the browser version haven't yet been implemented on mobile.

I like the web based solution which makes it very collaborative. The tutorials are also well done and very informative which was a key reason I selected onShape.

Nachteile

it can be slow at times and it has no offline options. Some of the tutorials are outdated and do not reflect the current options which can make it confusing.

The web access is the best feature, but the automatic saving, the branching and versioning, and being able to draw an edge of an existing feature into a new sketch are also very helpful.

Nachteile

The worst part is that there is no free, easy way to do quality finite element analysis for stress and strain calculations.

- Need to be connected to the internet to use, sometimes difficult if traveling or somewhere without connection

Its the Google Docs of CAD. The convenience of being able to get to your model from ANYWHERE is amazing...I often use with GoGo internet on airplanes...in most cased it, works great

some of the versioning and assembly stuff is complicated and needs to be well understood. I mostly part model ...so I don't spend the time learn the other stuff

How easy it is to organize the documents. Makes our lives easier to create different projects and share it with the rest of the team. Interface is easy and intuitive, and mating is also more fun and faster than in any other cad I tried.

Nachteile

Some features like applying different colors to a part, mirroring in assembly, duplicating assemblies, more options inside drawings... I guess it is just a matter of time until it gets to the level of other softwares in the market.

Vorteile

It's free (public projects). It has built-in version control. It can be used on most computer (cloud-based). It doesn't mean maintaining (new features and updates rollout automatically). And it runs pretty smoothly and intuitively. It is supported by industry experts. There are third-party add-ons.

Nachteile

Still likely harder to use for those with advanced knowledge in a standalone CAD program. The CAM abilities are third-party, unlike Fusion 360. Probably still lacking some features that older programs have.

Vorteile

Cloud based and viewable on mobile are two of the best features since it makes viewing models much easier and communicating them to others much faster.

Nachteile

Like any CAD system, once you get used to where all the buttons are and what hotkeys exist, it is hard to transition to a new tool. At the end of the day, it's another CAD system and can do most of the same basic things. The new layout slows you down though in the beginning.

I can access my files from any computer: work, school, or home. It is also very intuitive and has good tools that expensive CAD programs have.

Nachteile

I wish it had more built in capabilities without having to download third party programs. Also, since it's all web based, sometimes files take a minute to open.

Intuitive, powerful, simple, cloud based. This software is great for anyone familiar with solidworks or solid edge.

Sometimes the software can be a little slow due to loading material from the cloud. It would be nice if there were a one time purchase price as opposed to recurring subscription.

The assemblies are by far the greatest feature of this program. So much easier to use than other competitive products.

Every once in awhile there are weird errors with geometry but they aren't anything new to cad programs.
