Our company designs, markets, and manufactures made-to-order lighting fixtures for high-end interior designers and architects. We implemented the E2 system in 2005, a couple of years after starting the business.
We use E2 software to manage all aspects of our business - including Quoting, CRM, and Accounting in addition to MRP, Time Collection, and Scheduling for manufacturing. As our company has grown, we have been able to utilize more of the functionality and power that the software offers. As our business has matured, E2 has provided a guide path for many of our improvement efforts - development of detailed BOM's and Routers being chief among them - in order to implement the more powerful functions such as Scheduling and MRP.
As a way to sanity check our approaches and clearly understand how we can use E2 software more effectively, we have engaged ShopTech's on-site consultants several times. We find this service to be of great value as the consultants are extremely knowledgeable and help us plan and implement additional functionality.
As with any software package designed to provide broad functionality, some aspects of E2 are stronger than others. E2 excels on the manufacturing side. The Accounting and CRM functions are adequate, but certainly not as elegant or flexible as stand alone options. Generally speaking, it would be extremely beneficial if E2 reporting could be made more flexible and easily customizable. However, even given these limitations, we have found that the value of data integrity and a "one stop shop" interface make E2 a good fit for our company.
We plan to upgrade to v8 in 2014 and look forward to the improved interface and search capability.

Love the software and ease of use.
Vorteile
This software (web based) is very nice to use. Love that when you login out of the office that you have fast speed and accurate information.
Nachteile
We updated to the Web based software about a year ago so still learning the ins and outs of differences.

Very happy for many years
We got on board with Jobboss in the end of 1999 and have never looked back. We are a job shop and don't really take advantage of all the things jobboss can do but it really does work for us. We have the basic set-up and use it for simple quoting, time tracking, PO's (outgoing) and material tracking, job cost details. We have customized a few things in the house so this all works for us. Some of the old school things we can do are print a customer and vendor phone list and we put into a 3 punch folder. This is very handy when non-logged in departments just need a quick phone number. Job boss has a great learning tool that I have taken the time to watch videos and after years of working with job boss, I still learn something new. I really like their export tools as for the fact we live in a digital world.
Vorteile
Easy to use and understand. It can be a detail as you like. Sometimes you just need something quick.
Nachteile
There is a yearly cost to be on maintenance for every seat and if it is linked to accounting software like quickbooks

Overall I like the software. I would purchase it if I had my own business because of all the functions that it offers.

I like how easy it is to use. Most of the features are easy to use and understand.

For the most part, the program is easy to use. Very straight forward
Nachteile
If you want to make changes to the format of your printouts, it will cost you. For example, just to add a small note on the bottom right for controlled documents, you can't just edit the template yourself.

CRYSTAL REPORTS ARE NICE, BUT DIFFICULT TO MAKE OR CUSTOMIZE
Vorteile
Crystal reporting in JobBOSS is a huge time and money saver. They are very helpful to determine delivery schedules, and review On-Time delivery at the end of each month. We use dozens of reports that we have customized which help plan, schedule, and review.
Nachteile
The data on existing reports when exported to excel are difficult to manipulate. Therefore, modifying the reports has helped us, but you need to have someone with decent knowledge of Crystal to help with it.

The product was easy to learn and is easy to use, and is pretty straight forward. Has some features that are good for our type of business.

The least thing we like about this software is the high cost for annual updates and support, it just seems to be way too high.

Great Product! It was a good fit for us!
Peace of mind that what is being reported is accurate.
Vorteile
The ease of use is what I like the most. We were able to install and "run" with this program. We did NOT need a lot of extra reports or functions - the system already had what we needed and wanted built into it.
Nachteile
Just a couple of the quirks (tab vs enter on some screens). I do not like that the inventory issued to jobs does not deduct the GL balance. That is a manual entry that I do at the end of the month.

E2 Shop System
The E2 Shop Systems is very easy to learn and to use. The quick view component is a great feature. This feature allows you to look at real time financial balances, customer and vendor details, without having to close out of the module you are currently working in.
Vorteile
I like the ability to export reports into excel to keep track of yearly sales by customer as well as keeping track of yearly inventory use.
Nachteile
Shoptech requires you to pay the yearly maintenance fee in order to receive updates to the system.

Great program it definitely aids us in our day to day and long term forecasts.
Vorteile
The ease of user friendly format. The programs is used shop wide, beginning with the estimating and quoting through to invoicing. We use the Vendor, Shop Control and Quality modules as well. As our company has grown we effectively use all modules of the E2 Shop System
Nachteile
Some slight issues with the scheduling but that is due to the nature of our business not an issue with the software.

From quotations to closing out orders, E2 does it all.
Nachteile
When doing it all, each subroutine open a new window. Example: home screen->estimating->part->documents. On the plus side, navigating the system is a breeze, just feels clunky every now and then.

They promised seem less integration with ups, solid works, and quick books and none of that is true.
Vorteile
They over sell their conferences and label them as training but it is really a sales pitch for more money.
Nachteile
The modules are stitched together as though it was developed one piece at a time. Bad support. They give very little help but offer lots of work around with obvious issues. Each update claims to fix old bugs but only half fixes and then creates more.

Good actually. We had a very helpful software tech onsite a couple months ago to help us navigate some of our questions.

Accessibility on multiple devices is important for us aside from the ability to manage each our jobs.

Nachteile
Upgrades are almost always require repeated help installing. They rarely are straight forward and several calls are needed to customer support to complete installations. There also seems to be several levels of customer support with few people actually in possession of all the need information to complete.

We were lied to from the two salesman that presented and sold this product and was high...
The support after the sale is very poor due to the lack of knowledge of the tech people. You can get a different answer each time when you call in depending on who you talk too.

Concise Data in One Spot
Add the ability of multiple people working on a quote simultaneously, i.e. one person working labor & one person working material. Also, add the ability to see who is working inside a quote.

The ability to have production data and metrics in one system. Seeing this real time data is critical to making decisions for the company.

JobBoss has brought a better understanding of our business to everyone in our organization, regardless of their position.
Vorteile
The fact that the software is almost designed specifically for a fabrication, manufacturing shop is it's greatest attribute for our organization.
Nachteile
Because it is a canned software package, there are a few minor things that are missed for our organization specifically. However that by no means minimizes it's benefits to our organization.

E2 Shop Systems is the BEST I have ever come across..........

Shop Tech support has been very helpful at times when it was needed and we love how easy E2 is to learn and use. When I started my job 2 years ago I was offered to attend an off site overnight training but decided to learn the software myself and it was quite easy to do. I have actually taught other users things that they never knew how to do and they had been using it for 10+ years. E2 is the largest reason that our shop has become 100% efficient with on time delivery, and being in the aerospace manufacturing industry we all know how important that it! The HOT SPOTS tool & LOADING SUMMARY are used daily.................
Nachteile
We have a small ongoing hiccup with the machine capacity module vs. scheduling of jobs and have been unable to overcome this struggle with Shoptech support, although we have all tried on a few occasions to do so. As a team I believe that we will eventually figure it out. Other than that, there is not much negative that we can provide.

This system is actually a fun experience! Makes me look good at my job position! Looing up information is simple and clear. We like the reports we can print out for reviewing. Making corrections in the system very easy to do. I can't say enough about this program, very user friendly!

On the accounting side, the bank reconciliation report should also give checks that have not cleared. This may aid in the process.

So Many Features
Best shop software I’ve used.
Vorteile
The many many features that tie your entire shop together from RFQ, to work order and invoice and everything in between. Order, track and locate your raw material inventory and finished products.
Nachteile
You need a pretty solid understanding of the software and software systems and computers as a whole to really understand and use all of the many features. But the basics are very easy and user friendly.

Easy & efficient
Very easy to learn and use. Some people barely scratch the surface of what it can do while others dig down deep into every little detail.

Perfect All-Around the Shop System!
We have solved many common issues with E2 Shop System.
We can easily keep track of inventory, hours worked, schedules, etc.
It's been able to fill in many of our blanks and saved us time and money!
Vorteile
The ease of use and training material makes anyone a proffesional.
Nachteile
No cons so far! I could easily see how someone could find issues with the software, but only without investing the time and mind power to learning the software. Since the training is provided (and extensive), I see no reason to not get educated before using it, and to start reaping all of the potential benefits!

We are pleased with JobBoss and have been using it for nearly 20 years.
Vorteile
There are many sources of measurement with in this product for our daily, weekly, monthly and yearly measurables. Once you learn your way around JobBoss it is fairly simple to use.
Nachteile
There are some little glitchy type issues. If you don't do some things exact there are issues. For some issues the help information provided isn't always clear or enough for me.

Customer service, both software and particularly technical support, has always been good. Shoptech listens to their customers "wishes" and continually strives to improve their products as well as to provide adequate training opportunities.
Nachteile
Many of the reports are unwieldy and include too much info that is not useful. We purchased crystal report writer to customize some of the reports and that has helped.

AVERAGE SOFTWARE FOR SMALL TO MID SIZE BUSINESS
I really don't have any experience with other job shop software, company was already using JobBoss when I started here.
JobBoss really needs to improve functionalities such as more filters on reports, and one really BIG dysfunction with it is that it DOES NOT update on the fly. The user options fall short of what is needed to improve efficiency. I don't like that you have to use the tab key instead of the enter key and another problem is that you cannot see/access all the data from the master file from any screen, you have to go in and out of different screens to see complete data. Also unforgiving when it comes to updating and editing information.
I like the integration with QuickBooks for small businesses, I recommend this option instead of using the accounting in JobBoss. I am extremley happy with the way this works. It's not perfect you still have to manually enter some data because it doesn't transfer everything complete, such as extra shipping addresses. But it generally works great and saves alot of time.
JobBoss software is comparable to the functionality of Peachtree vs QuickBooks anyone familiar with them will know what I mean by that. Peachtree can also be unforgiving just like JobBoss is sometimes.

E2 is an integral part of our operations at EBI. We recently upgraded to the web version and it's even better than the desktop version which helped us grow for 17 years.

IT support for the client and server components of JobBOSS
Vorteile
The product is inexpensive. I think that the client front end is user-friendly, and the packed in data collection components are robust. The simplicity of the product makes the maintenance costs lower and the data accessibility (outside of the client) higher. Their online knowledge base, user forums, and simple training videos provide a great deal of information on the product and how to use and maintain it.
Nachteile
The product appears to have severe legacy issues in terms of database design, which leads to what should should be unnecessary calls to support in order to clear up "dirty data" issues.
The web support and phone support calls are fielded by different groups of technicians, and the phone support group seems to have a thing for hours-long employee meetings that take down the support line. In the end, the support issues don't matter too much since the answer is usually something along the lines of "that's interesting", or "yeah, we know about that".
More aggravating though, the application has a habit of crashing for reasons unknown (though somewhat less-so than older versions).
I'm not directly familiar with the inner workings of it, but I've been told on more than one occasion that the accounting portions are quite lacking.

I would have to get very nit-picky to find a complaint. When searching for part numbers under routing/estimating and inventory items, I wish you could pick a combination of fields at the same time to help narrow down the search.

User Friendly, Great Product
Vorteile
We transitioned to E2 from a previous manufacturing software a year ago and I have never been happier. This software is so user friendly and very easy to learn. I love the way it integrates with QuickBooks for our financials. It is also extremely helpful that you can quickly email any report, invoices, quotes, etc. out to customers and vendors. The customer service and support teams are also very helpful and wonderful to work with. I get answers to my questions quickly and any issues I have had come up have been resolved right away.
Nachteile
I haven't been able to use the Quote function as it is meant to be used quite yet but that is more because I haven't had the time to explore it like I would like to than anything to do with the product.
