Really functional and robust system after some slightly bumpy setup.
Once the system is up, it's great with no disappointments and the expandability assures no repeat of the setup slog.
Vorteile
- functionality is high and omnichannel sales work as you hope they would
- per-transaction cost was among the lowest
- well-developed tutorials, training, and support
- our specific inventory info was not available for download but entering it manually was not difficult
- having never constructed a website, they made it very doable
Nachteile
- getting the app that connects Lightspeed to Quickbooks to work was the hardest part. Lightspeed support seemed to have different nomenclature and phraseology than my accountant and we eventually had to hire a third party advisor to help us set things up.
- our initial salesman was very accommodating though he assured us our hardware was ready for mobile transactions and it is not; I believe buying another terminal can fix this

Best POS on the Market
I would recommend this to everyone who wants to increase the productivity of their business.

Simple to use and can accomplish everything we were looking for . Much improved from our last two outdated POS systems.

We have been using LightSpeed since 2009. It is a good looking software but has many serious flaws. We are a multi store operation too, high volume, and have a large product inventories.
Since the new release of 3.7, we have been encountering inaccurate processing of invoices in POS. There are several occasions that the subtotal on our invoices do not even add-up in POS. The POS will show us a Total that is out of the blue (I'm sure there is a mathematical reason for LightSpeed to calculate the figures the way it did) and we end up charging customers the wrong amount – the amount that is less than the actual purchase. However, I was told the new version 3.7.4 should fix this problem. I am planning on upgrading tomorrow so we will no longer be short at the end of the day!
LightSpeed cannot calculate the price of an item when it has double discounts. On an on-going basis, we have also encountered problems in logging in, product transfers, inaccurate tracking of inventories in products, and inaccurate (also slow) scanning of products.
In this newest release, they have also dropped the Sales Report by Hours – a report the retail businesses rely upon to determine staffing level, shift combinations, product demo, and business hours, etc.
You do not get a response from LightSpeed development team when you send them your concerns or issues that need to be fixed.
The software has great potential but needs to fix major problems in how it functions. I suggest that their development team spend a few days working in a high-volume retail store that has a large product inventories.

Lightspeed POS, A decent tool for a decent price
A decent all in one webshop/POS system. With the average price being low, it's a great platform to start your online shop!
Vorteile
Within my job at Sooqr Search, we work with a lot of Lightspeed clients. Lightspeed offers an easy to use webshop system. For the starting webshop (the SMB market), this is a very good platform to build your online presence. A lot of features are delivered within the platform. If your company is growing, it provides a lot of external plugins to optimize your webshop even further.
Nachteile
It's not an open-source platform. This means that you're not able to develop your own tooling on the platform itself and limits you to the plugins/extensions that the platform offers.

Lightspeed is the best!
Lightspeed is at least the tenth PoS I've used in my retail years (both corporate and small business), and it's by far the most elegant, intuitive, and powerful.
Vorteile
Can I say everything? It's easy to use. It's well-designed for small-business retail. The integration is incredibly powerful (send my GRTs directly to Quickbooks? yes please). I love that the hardware requirements were so flexible, and that I could get a discount on buying the must-haves. Certain things that were deal-breakers for me on other PoS (please don't make me use your terrible, proprietary loyalty system or clunky email receipts, why can't I calculate COGS?) aren't even an issue on Lightspeed.
Nachteile
Certain functions can be difficult to access if you're unfamiliar with the system (e.g. returns without a receipt), but a little exploration and reading in the intensive help walkthroughs puts everything right.

Salesman Tells you What You Want to Hear to Make Sale
Lightspeed seemed like a good solution for my small business after doing some research and speaking with their salesman.
What they don't tell you is that they rush you into a sale with an offer that "expires" in the near future. They don't give you an opportunity to test the product to see if it will work for your business. In our case, we asked very specific questions about the management of multiple repairs for a single customer to which our salesman assured us their product could handle. Unfortunately it could not without adding numerous steps to the process thereby making it extremely inefficient and prone to human error.
Their solution was to use specific functionality like "layaway" to circumvent their own products flow. After several sessions with their orientation specialist (spread out over sever weeks due to their limited schedule), even she said that their product can't really do what we need it to the way we need it to.
During the sales cycle, we told the sales man numerous times that we do not print paper receipts; we email receipts to our customers in order to be more environmentally friendly and therefore do not need/want a paper receipt printer. The salesman "gave" us a cash drawer as a part of our sale but the catch is that you have to have a receipt printer for the drawer to work.
There are several other issues similar to the ones above where we were mislead into paying the upfront fee. Now that we've figured out that the Lightspeed product will not work and we'd like a refund, their customer service is nowhere to be found. They do not respond to email in a timely manner (usually weeks) and do not respond to calls.
I would avoid Lightspeed simply because of their customer service and sales. Their product seems decent enough for the right business but be prepared to be swindled.

Does not easily handle multiple line items for a single customers. Salesman will tell you that you don;t need all the hardware but you actually do and they'll happily sell it to you. Communications are exceptionally poor once sale has been made. Does not handle customization well.

Working with lightspeed as been a true pleasure!
Vorteile
What we like most about lightspeed is that it talks to our e-commerce platform. For us we are busy retail store and don't always have time to update our site. By having lightspeed retail platform linked to our site makes our life that much easier.
Nachteile
Overall we don't have many cons with using lightspeed. At this point we would like for the e-commerce platform to be able to link to instagram. Other programs have options where you are able to link your IG page with your website. As of right now, lightspeed does not have that option.

The best there is
We tried another POS and eCom provider before using Lightspeed. Lightspeed is LIGHTyears ahead of the competition. Support is thorough and AWESOME!

It's very inruitive and has an easy learning curve.

Depending on when you call support, wait times can be very long.

Powerfull Service Module and Inventory Management
Vorteile
We are using the Onsite Version. The Service Module integrates with the web store which allows customers to view their work orders online in real time. The service module also integrates beautifully with Apple's Service API. For sales the POS Screen takes 10 minutes to learn. Very nice layout. The Storemaster Module is available for back-end and power-users. It's got a logical interface and powerful customization such as smart finds and trackers that can be constantly tweaked to improve efficiencies. I absolutely love this program and so do all the staff that use it.
Nachteile
I like it all. There are a couple of more features I would like to see to simplify workflow (like an instant email function for work orders) but hopefully those will be implemented with time.

After making the switch from a direct competitor, our agency has had a lot of success
I had a reliable system that was easy to set up, had great customer support when I had questions and isn't priced out of the market. Very happy with the switch I made from a direct competitor and I'm not looking back!
Vorteile
The ease of use and set up time is amazing. Very rarely is the system down or has any problems, which is imperative to my business. Competitors always seemed to be having problems, which lead to my switch.
Nachteile
The price is a little expensive, but it's true that you get what you pay for. I'm happy to pay a little more for the type of service that I get from the team.

Database isn’t multi dimensional, so running reports by style is very hard, it takes it more to the unit level which is nice for items that don’t have different attributes like color and size, or if you’re skuncount is less then a couple thousand

Additional inventory flexibility such as multiple (and preferred) vendors per item (not found in QB) and a visually appealing point of sale platform.

Nachteile
Better suited for a typical retail operation, we tried this for a natural stone flooring operation and there were some limitations on items such as unit of measure and other inventory fields. On the other hand, there were a lot of options / features available not found in conventional software programs.

This was one of the simplest setups I've experienced in the business. We plugged everything ini , and we were ready to go. Even with the complications in Quebec which require using the MEV, we were supported the whole way.
Nachteile
I was unable to use my old tear bar receipt printer, but not the worst problem as I needed a new one anyway!

Lightspeed Saves the day!!
Being able to track down and keep up with orders and inventory make this program the go to.
Vorteile
For a pos and tracking system Lightspeed gets the job done. Having used it daily in a bicycle shop and then some what to track our shipping and inventory for online sales.
Nachteile
At first the Lightspeed can seem overwhelming because of so much information being available. Without knowing what you are looking at, it can be very easy to get lost in the program. However a quick search on youtube and lightspeed does have some how to videos to help with this.

SCAMMED! Was sold the new program but doesn't have the basics that Onsite had
The worst customer experience I've ever had. because there is ZERO customer service. I've called and emailed my rep several times with zero response. I have no option but to make a dispute through my credit card company. JUST AN AWFUL AWFUL EXPERIENCE

IT DOES NOT ALLOW A CUSTOMER TO LEAVE A TIP, when I am a service based customer. Also, does not pull up customer/company name within POS. It is a far less superior program than ON SITE

Overall, I think Lightspeed is an excellent source for retail sources for point of sale and record keeping.
Vorteile
Lightspeed's customer service is excellent. They're quick and efficient, even through the chat option, which is what I typically use. I've described my problem pretty simply and three times that i've had to contact them, they've solved it very efficiently.
Nachteile
it would be great if there was a scheduling capability or alerts you could set on products. neither of these things are necessary but would be nice.

Inexpensive & Customized POS System
Vorteile
The company I set this up for had many different custom needs that other POS systems could not handle. They had a Shopify store and needed a POS system that could keep up. Their store was very large with over 20,000 SKUs that Shopify alone could not handle.
Nachteile
It took another company to do all of the set up into Shopify and that took a very long time to do. We were not expecting such a long set up of the tool.

Lightspeed is a very robust program and offers a lot of functionality for retail users.It is your "one stop shop" for managing inventory, sales, customers, orders, etc.

Great value with AMAZING support
Vorteile
Easy to use. After 5 years we are very happy with our decision to switch our company over to Lightspeed. We now have better relationships with our customers, we know their names, we communicate regularly with them. They have a support team that is vastly superior to any I have ever used.

The People at Lightspeed do not understand business!!
When the system is down they turn off their customer service. It is not a system a business can depend on and I am hoping there is a class action lawsuit to recoup the thousands of dollars in losses we've incurred. Maybe there isn't anything better on the market but this isn't a system you can rely on and as long as we keep paying them they don't seem to care. They've even gone so far as to block my comments on Facwbook.

customer no service tells you what's wrong doesn't listen to problems
when the system works, it works. when it doesn't work you want to fire whoever suggested use them.

i have called customer service several times and had them read scripts to me about what's wrong the whole time I'm trying to explain what's actually happening. they refuse to listen. they have even straight lied to me and had the next rep tell me so. every time i try to setup the system its a nightmare

-better introductory to the software, we only scheduled 2 phone calls of 1 hour and its very difficult to learn and take in everything during that time. A document that summarizes where to find answers would be helpful or even a check in call once a week would be handy. During the week I can wait for a couple hours for a call back due to high volume of calls during this time.

Good All-Around POS for Our Business
Vorteile
The fact that it is a cloud-based product with a good amount of customization ability. It's quick and easy to add another terminal, so if we expand we can turn it on at another location very easily. We were up and running quickly and have gradually taken advantage of additional features. Right now we are implementing gift cards, which was something of a manual process (read that as 'it was a pain') before Lightspeed. I could see Lightspeed being a great option for many types of retail businesses.

Lightspeed works great for the retail side of our business. On the other hand, we do have a fair amount of rental business (tuxedos) that isn't as smooth. There are other POS solutions that are built for rentals but they were not cloud-based and were more expensive to purchase. We're willing to live with the limitations for now, since it is still a step up from our previous system.
My second issue is with an integration with a credit card terminal through one of their partners, Cayan - basically a counter based touch screen system like you'd find a Walgreens or CVS that accepts chip cards. We've been struggling with Lightspeed tech support for over a month while they work on pushing out a software update to get it working. I'm guessing the marketing folks got ahead of the tech folks. I'm glad I didn't cancel my old credit card processor yet.

Lightspeed: I like and I wish
I have used LS for a while and there some great things and some not so great things. Overall, it's a decent POS system but we have tried a few different systems and none of them really have the full capability that we need.
Vorteile
iPad and desktop systems can functions with the same look/feel/functionality. Can track marketing/how customers heard about us. Can have default line items notes when specific info about a product or delivery option is required; super helpful. Can easily add shipping info to an individual order w/o affecting the master account. Refunds/exchanges are easy.
Nachteile
Lack of flexibility with discounts; must be an exact % or $ from a menu. It has issues printing receipts from a regular printer due to conflicts with browsers. The cash drawer pops open after every transaction even if it's a credit card payment; it's either on or off but not intuitive. It takes a digital signature but doesn't print it out on the receipt. Sales tax has to be selected from a self created menu; better if it was intuitive.

Was nervous to start a new program I knew nothing about and that I would be the lead on.
The customer service people are there 24/7 and are so patient.
Vorteile
I am really not tech savvy and the support team were very patient and answered all my questions. They lead me step by step to setting up the system that would be best for our venue. Te representative even hide the features I would not need so I wouldn't get confused. Thank you guys !
Nachteile
Nothing really that I didn't like about it.
Perhaps they could have more pictures to choose from when itemizing your products - right now they are generic. But you can download your own - so not really an issue.

We are so glad we found Lightspeed. They make retail and online retail affordable and easy. Their staff is always very helpful and easily accessible when help is needed.
They offer many integrations and one of our favorites is the POS system for retail sales.
There are so many great qualities to this program.
Everything is very easy to use, easy to set up, and very user-friendly.

I have use lightspeed since opening my business and if has been incredible. I have several artisans in my store and the lightspeed software keeps all inventory organized. It is easy to use and navigate.

Best Bang for the Buck for our furniture business
After comparing many products like Lightspeed, we ultimately made the choice to go with Lightspeed because of price and needed features. There are other programs with more features, but for our small business, Lightspeed had what we needed for 25% of the cost of its closest company in our comparison.
The tech support has been very workable and our non-tech savvy staff has bendable to transition from all paper inventory/receipts to Lightspeed in a short time. We deliberately waited to add the E-com feature until we felt everyone was pretty comfortable with the general retail program first. That proced to be a good choice.

Best retail product on the market
Vorteile
From the first day I was introduced to this product I liked it and within the first week of using it consistently I have to say I loved all aspects of it.

The only con I would mention here is the price if you are not offered a trial deal or discount for the software.

Lightspeed is great!
I started up my retail store from scratch and Lightspeed made it so much easier. The vendor catalog import feature makes finding products a snap, especially for special orders. I can't lose the special orders because they are all computerized and attached to the customer. When I had to go offsite, this cloud based system let me do every transaction I needed to do (sell inventory, email receipts, special orders), it was just like taking the register with me. The system is very intuitive. It takes me about 10 minutes to train someone on the system, even my children (ages 15 and 11) picked it up quickly and can help all my customers. I haven't used the eCommerce feature yet, but it looks promising.
The customer service is spectacular! Firefox had an update that knocked the receipt settings off. I had to call every day for 5 days because what they fixed would reset in the morning. They finally figured out the problem, but every call they were polite, cheerful, and respectful. They didn't talk down to me like some IT do when explaining the setting configuration and even called me on their own to check that their fix had worked. I felt that they cared about my experience and wanted to help me, not just because it was their job to.

Best POS for the Pet Industry
I am totally happy with this system and their customer service.
Vorteile
Easy to use, keeps track of so many different things. I love how I can pull a customer up by name and see what they bought for those who can't remember. So easy to do.
Nachteile
We sell a lot of bulk items by the pound and the system at this time doesn't have the capability of selling by the pound.
2nd was transferring inventory from one POS system to this. it took forever!
