We use Lightspeed for all aspects of our retail and (with Magento) ecommerce operations.
Glitches aside, it's essential for managing all aspects of our retail/ecommerce business.
Vorteile
It's specifically tailored to the needs of a retail operation, and can, through a third party, be integrated with an ecommerce operation.
Nachteile
It can be glitchy and slow. The product browser, for example, can't load up products as fast as the user can scroll through them, leading to problems. It's also not easily customizing beyond a certain point.

Lightspeed - the ALMOST perfect retail POS
Vorteile
Robust inventory reporting and capabilities, easy multi-store transfers and inventory support, accurate inventory recording, easy product building with matrices, and a nice UX for POS sales.
Nachteile
Can be somewhat buggy on the POS side. Requires multiple log-ins at times to get to sales screen. Has issues with designating employees to stores and can sometimes assign an employee to a different store than where they physically are, which causes huge issues.

Great for businesses with repairs
Vorteile
We use this at a ski hill. It is wonderful for tracking repairs/tune-ups. One can print a tag receipt right from the system to put with the skis and have stored in the POS. The user interface is attractive. One can easily find and edit items.
Nachteile
No real complaints. Feel a little clunky at time, but only because one can forget how to get around. Once learned - it's great.

Shiny but marketing lies to get the sale

ECom Customer Service
The Lightspeed Software handles our sales, inventory and ecommerce and the customer service has always been wonderful.

Good Product, but needs work

It had a nice, modern interface. The front end and a good user interface for the employees to use.
Nachteile
The backend had some problems. It was constantly freezing out or locking out users. We would have to restart it at least once a day, sometimes more.

Great POS for Retail
Vorteile
That it it so easy for my staff to learn and use. New employees seem to understand how to use it in just one day. I also love that you can create purchase orders and send them direct to the vendors through the POS. It has helped me cut my ordering time in half each week.
Nachteile
The only thing I don't like about it is the lack of options when it comes to creating discount codes on the e-commerce dashboard.

Why did we wait so long!?
Management and Staff are very pleased with the system.
Vorteile
Lightspeed allowed us to eliminate our 45 year old paper/pen procedures. Great customer service - techs and sale persons were always super helpful (and still are when we need them - they are right there)
Nachteile
We are still experimenting with the Lightspeed POS and would like to see more detailed break-down of sales without purchasing additional modules to do so.

Great POS System
Vorteile
Lightspeed is very customizable. It is very user-friendly, you can get custom Reports for margins and what each team member has sold. It also has a great inventory system and tracking. I highly recommend this product it has boosted our sales and Effeniceny.

We love the layout and the Search Engine Optimization! We can look up customer info and previous purchases easily. The program is very easy to navigate thru! :) and easy to use on the fly from our mobile. Definitely worth the move to a new POS system. AND the support staff are great!!

connecting the accounting side of things thru shogo - to QuickBooks. But, it has its advantages that they are separate too.

Almost perfect
Vorteile
Great features which are constantly being updated. It's the only software solution that I know of that allows for retail, online sales, purchase orders, Service requests to all be managed coherently. Just wish there was better integrated customer communication options.
Nachteile
No way to give customers access to a portal or area where they can easily check on the status of things such as their retail purchases and/or work orders.

Lifesaver for our small retail store

Simply the best POS system out right now.
When we switched our POS systems we were worried that the transition would not go too well, but it ended up being the smoothest we've seen. Everything was easy to learn and not overwhelming whatsoever, it's definitely the best POS system I've worked with.
Vorteile
Simple to use. Inventory management is impeccable.
Nachteile
Not much that comes to mind. I'd only be picking at things that don't really take away from the experience I have had with the system.

LightSpeed eCommerce

It was intriguing to have a POS system that could communicate directly with a web store and track inventory in both places. The POS system works well enough, although it has its "thoughtless" elements and seems to be designed without ever speaking to a business owner.
Nachteile
Unfortunately this system is full of bugs. They don't seem to have ever spoken with a business owner. The images are far too small, and there are far too few to be of any real use. They cannot be made larger. If you make any cosmetic changes to your site, it will eliminate all tech support, since it is no longer their code. This is a major problem, since their website layout is inadequate, and navigation is restricted. They claim that only backend code eliminates tech support, but I only changed my CSS page to make the welcome page what I needed for my store. I was a professional web designer and know exactly what I'm doing on this point.
When you do reach tech support, they are barely competent. I don't like knowing more about the entire site, code, and troubleshooting than the person on the other end of the phone.

Best POS company out there
Absolutely fantastic! Took the stress out of inventory tracking as well as a host of other business issues. They are the BEST!
Vorteile
Lightspeed exceeded all expectations. Their product is robust and thorough, yet easy to navigate. Their customer service is top notch and I never had to wait more than a few minutes to speak with a real human being to help me with any issues. I cannot recommend them enough. Not many companies these days have the integrity of Lightspeed. They stand by their word and they care for their customers. They make running a business much easier and less stressful. Thank you!

Great POS for quick service with quick integration!
We're paying a budget airline prices now for business class features, so really no complaints. Fits our needs exactly!
Vorteile
Straightforward integration and setup process, we were up and running (granted with experience from other POS systems) within 2 weeks. Great bang for buck relative to some of its more expensive competitors. Modern and intuitive interface with all the features we needed.
Nachteile
Support team slightly slower than we expected on certain menu tasks - though to be fair we're used to enterprise-level on demand / fixed-right-away SLAs.

After being in business for many years in Europe, we decided to start an interior design business in the USA. Our first store opened in Key West, FL and after two years it was time for store no. 2 in the NY area.
As part of opening our second store, we wanted to update our sales system. Up to that point of course, we didn't use any system, just simple software to print an invoice, but nothing to manage our inventory and products.
Because the use of Apple products, we needed something that was compatible with Apple and hopefully was as "good-looking" as Apple products. Of course the web is the place to start looking for POS systems, we looked at a few and started using the demo version of Lightspeed. Why Lightspeed? It had that professional look, easy to use feel and compared to the others, a great website!
After starting the demo, that's when we fell in love! We tried all kinds of functionality, we build and edited products, started working with master and child products, inventory, customer database and e-commerce, all based on our actual store situation.
The way Lightspeed works is just fabulous. It is amazingly easy navigate, learn to use the software, and if we need help, the support is more than helpful. Those guys rock! We can honestly say that Lightspeed made our business grow. Would we go with any other POS system? No way, we are glad to be a part of the Lightspeed family.

A solid POS with an excellent omnichannel experience.
We were looking for a POS system with an excellent eCommerce integration. Lightspeed was our first choice and we have not yet been disappointed.
Vorteile
Browser-based POS works better than we expected.
Hardware integration works flawlessly.
Easy learning curve, our staff picked it up in one day.
Many configurable options, we haven't found anything it can't do.
The on-boarding process and support were above average; specifically, the import tool is the best we've ever used.
The interface is quite modern, clean, and intuitive.
Integration with the eCommerce is rock solid, inventory sync woes are a thing of the past.
Nachteile
The reporting options are quite limited unless you buy up.
Data conversion during on-boarding has a slow turnaround if you don't use the automated import tools.
While Retail and eCommerce are well integrated, there are two separate interfaces for management, this keeps clear separation, but adds additional labor.

Make a small business run like a pro
Vorteile
When I started my brick-and-mortar dog supply store, I started out with Lightspeed Retail(known at the time as Merchant OS). I've never had to worry about back-ups, storage space, or tech support. Cloud-based is the way to go. Customers are impressed that we can look up what they bought last time, or how long it has been since they bought dog food. Our modest one-location store runs like a big operation thanks to Lightspeed Retail.
Nachteile
It was a temporary bump in the road, but when they were growing (apparently at lightspeed), they couldn't maintain a reliable service. That has resolved. I have no complaints now.

Outstanding Customer Service
Vorteile
Lightspeed has outstanding customer service! I love that if I call and there is "waiting line" to be helped, I can put my number in the queue and they will call me back. I have always gotten a call back within 20 minutes, and every representative who I have spoken with has been patient and very helpful. They have trouble shooted and talked through problems with me, and helped me tremendously in setting up my POS system for my store. The screen sharing software they use was so helpful for having them remotely set up my receipt and barcode printers the right way the first time, where I would have been completely lost in formatting them correctly.
Nachteile
I can't think of anything I need Lightspeed to do that it doesn't already do.

Ease of use and training for new staff. Being able to login remotely to update or check on how things are going at the store, or being able to check on inventory when at the trade shows, etc
Nachteile
Wish it were easier to get our eCommerce set up in terms of inventory, tag words, etc. Also wish we could customize sort or filter for inventory, and add columns (such as item MOQ's) .

Lightspeed Retail is one of the easiest POS systems that I've ever used!
Reports is fairly easy, and it makes overall inventory management easy to use when it's done right. Transactions are smooth and, again, easy to complete.

I like that the software looks nice and it's very user friendly. Updates are made often to keep things getting better.

Sometimes there are features that are fairly industry-specific and can't be customized to work more efficiently for a specific industry.

Made our lives easier
So far I am loving Lightspeed. It is by far better than the other 2 systems we have used throughout the past year. Running end of day reports is also just a click of a button. Printing monthly statements is a breeze. I would love a way to email statements to customers but I can live without that for now. I would definitely recommend to any retail or service business.
Vorteile
I like the ease of adding new customers and being able to set up account credit limits easily. Checking customers out is very easy. Just start a new sale and add a customer if you want to. Cashing out customers is just as smooth. It's all pretty self-explanatory.
Nachteile
The thing I found a bit frustrating is I can not get a document to attach to a customers account. Ex. Credit agreements and contracts.

Fantastic POS
I am able to view all past transactions with customers and see exaclty what I have repaired on their bikes. Very simple to use.

We love that lightspeed makes everything so easy. Whether it be doing a return, doing a layaway or looking at all the different reports the system gives you. It's great to have all the information you need all in one place!
Nachteile
Ecom could be a little easier to use. For the most part it's fairly easy to use if you have a basic knowledge of how to build a website.

Easy-to-use, smooth workflow
Vorteile
I like that the software is very easy to use and just works. One thing I really like about it is that when I'm putting in new inventory, it will search their database to see if the item has been inputted by someone else so that I don't have to put in all of the information. It's really neat. It will also search local inventory to make sure it hasn't already been put in so you don't have duplicates. One other thing I like about lightspeed retail is making sales. It's just really easy to use, especially when you have a scanner. We use an iMac as our till and it just works really nicely.
Nachteile
The only problem I've had is when putting in new inventory, if it can't find it in their database or local inventory, it sometimes just displays an error asking you to try again instead of saying it couldn't find it. Which can be frustrating if you try multiple times.

Superb Product both in Design and Execution
Vorteile
I’ve used many point of sale systems in the past but almost none have managed to make both sales and inventory easy to use and integrate them so well. Beyond that it makes tracking numbers very easy; I can see what items are selling well and which aren’t and even check my day to day to see if I’m improving. All that and any questions I have had has been answered super quickly by their outstanding customer service. I would recommend Lightspeed to anyone looking to bring their business into the here and now.
Nachteile
Ours is cloud based so if we lose internet, we can't update our inventory at that time, but wifi is everywhere now, so it less of an issue.

Lacks training and support
Do not believe a word the sales people tell you.
Vorteile
Ipad based. We wanted to go to an ipad based pos system and this was one of the ones that was highly touted. Going back and looking at some of the review sites it is apparent that these reviews were paid for by lightspeed.
Nachteile
We tried to set up lightspeed in our full service restaurant bar. We asked prior to use about support and if it is robust enough to support a full service restaurant. When we got to training they gave my managers and I one hour to train on this system. They did not inform us prior to the training that it would only be one hour. When the hour was up the trainer hung up. We set up another training time. We have a very competent staff who had a lot of useful questions. After 3 attempts to get complete training and setup we realized that this POS is not suited for a full service restaurant. I informed them of this and never put the system in. Well they are still trying to charge me even though we never used the system. Steer clear of lightspeed and don't sign a contract with them. They will not fulfill what was promised and expect payment for nothing. Ripoff for full service restaurants. They should never offer this to nothing but small shops.

Great system wish it was a little easier to use
It’s been a process trying to get up to speed with it but once you’ve got it you’ve got it. It’s not Taylor made for a furniture store but it’s coming along

Great POS software
I have a lot more time to work on my business since I have Lightspeed.

Great Value
Inventory tracking, helps our customer service do a better job of being knowledgeable with our customers about availability and sizes.
Vorteile
It is very easy to use and the price is far and away better than most I researched.
Nachteile
We have had it 10 months and so far I only have a few changes that I will speak with customer service about.

Easy to use, thorough, and great customer support
Vorteile
The user interface is straight- forward, there are countless articles and videos to help through any confusion, and live chat is also available if you still cannot find a solution to your problem. I spoke with customer support NUMEROUS times, and each time, I was given prompt, courteous, professional care that got me pointed in the right direction and back on task.
Nachteile
I would like to see a more granular means of searching my reports for data. For some of the information we need, it seems the process could be streamlined to make the data more easily accessible.
