ActiveCampaign was a good platform for us for over a year and a half. We used it daily for contact details, email campaigns, deal tracking, automation. Has some robust chops.

Unfortunately, we can not recommend using ActiveCampaign ever due to their terms and cancellation. We were a customer for a year and a half on an annual plan. We switched marketing agencies to a HubSpot team and transferred to a new CRM. ActiveCampaign was unwilling to refund unused months (even prorated at a month-to-month fee) when terminated. I would understand this from a client in their first year, but a longer term client as well as the fact that this is a SAAS product makes this an antiquated reason. Do not use if you might move at a later date.

There are no major difficulties in using this software and also I had the pleasure of taking advantage of a one to one meeting directly with an expert who followed me in the first steps. The rest came by itself.

If you have issues and need support, you may be really frustrated. We run a mental health practice and use the enterprise version of the CRM to help us with potential new client requests. We noticed that clients mentioned they were having emails go to spam. We did some digging and saw a couple issues: ActiveCampaigns subdomains weren’t authenticating with our domain despite being properly setup to do so. Also, their subdomain was on several email blacklists. The issue became worse as all emails started going to spam. 4 days of attempting to hear from them and we only got an email stating they have a ticket open. This is unacceptable. In our business, lives may be at stake and they know this and yet we are not a prioydespote being an enterprise customer. For this reason. I can’t recommend them.

Thankfully they offer many introduction trainings, one-on-one sessions with their specialists, and alot of online resources and articles. For non-tech people, the software is not intuitive or easy to implement out of the gate. List clean-up and deleting of accounts is cumbersome. Setting up email campaigns is not quick. Setting up automation requires a knowledge base that many don't have. The product can be very costly as your list grows. They also limit the ability to delete contacts when you are trying to do a list clean ups. Customer service takes days to get answers and help even when you are at the enterprise level.

There are a few things that I didn't like about the active campaign software. First, it was a little difficult to figure out how to use all the features. Second, the interface wasn't as user-friendly as I would have liked. Lastly, I found the price to be a bit high for what the software offered.

I've been an ActiveCampaign customer since 2017 and have recommended it to dozens of friends over that time. It's super powerful marketing automation and email marketing software, for a great price. (I believe I'm on their lowest pricing tier.)

I like that I can easily integrate forms with other email collection tools to drive sign-ups (LeadPages, Group Leads, etc.) and create personalized welcome sequences and automations for different segments of my audience. Deliverability and open rates are strong.

Nachteile

I have 3 main gripes.

First, the reporting is weak. It would be cool to slice the new subscriber data by form to see what forms were driving the most sign-ups for a given time period. The only available option is the lifetime of that form. Since I have 100s of forms at this point, it's sometimes hard to tell where a spike in new subscribers is coming from.

Second, the customer support is frustrating. There's very little proactive effort made to troubleshoot any issue and they make you jump through a bunch of hoops.

Third, I wish they'd bring back area code geo-targeting. A few years ago, ActiveCampaign would assign subscribers an area code based on their IP address. This was super helpful for hosting local meetups whenever I'd travel. Now it seems they only assign a city, which is better than nothing, but not ideal.

Of all the email marketing services I shopped, ActiveCampaign had the best combination of the feature set I was looking for, ease of use, and price.

Activecampaign is easy to use and has excellent support. They are easy to get in touch with and solve 99.9% of your challenges. AC is very intuitive and powerful. It is easy to set up with your website/webshop.

I used Active Campaign for 7 years mainly because I had not found another software that integrated email marketing & a CRM. Also, I gained alot of subscribers during this time and developed alot of automations, but I really feel like I could have done this with any other software, I attribute it more to my actions and not the software. The software itself was painful to use the entire time due to regular glitches in the email editor which is from the internet stone age.

Recently, the experience with customer service has gone downhill and my user experience has been less than acceptable for a company I pay over $100 a month to. The chat does not work, when I report problems, my emails are not answered.

The emails are clunky to create and I just find myself avoiding writing emails (which is not like me) just because the interface and software itself does not provide a smooth or enjoyable experience. Their email editor is OLD, and even though they just did an upgrade, it still is just not anywhere close to Convert Kit, which is what I decided to switch to.

I am loyal and I will stick with something, especially software for as long as possible, because migrating data takes so much time and energy. But I became physically unable to give one more ounce of my time or energy to this software.

I recently had multiple poor customer service interactions. I found myself being led down multiple unnecessary paths to fix issues unrelated to my problem. I had a sense that they have new people who don't really know what they are doing.

The segmenting on other products is painful but not with activecampaign. In addition to that, the sequences are easy to set up and it filters clients so seamlessly which I find many companies have a hard time accomplishing.

I'd like the software to be able to prioritize one sequence, then play the next sequence if there are multiple tags against one email so the client isn't receiving an inundation of emails all at the same time.
