I like that I get constant updates from my child's daycare provider. It is great to know when my child arrives at daycare after school. I also enjoy knowing upcoming events and other things happening at school. In the midst of COVID, those updates were extremely helpful.

There is really nothing to dislike about this software. As a user, I do not see as much of the backend as the daycare managers and employees see, however from what I have seen, it seems fairly easy to navigate and allows multiple users.

I like that parents can see what's going on in our program--pictures, activities, and send messages to teachers, without teachers using their personal information.

The billing feature just isn't up-to-par. Bills are automated, but are done separately, so it doesn't keep running totals of how much money a parent owes or a credit they may have. So I spend lots of time trying to keep up with with invoice a payment credits toward or how much money they have leftover. It's very confusing and time consuming. I have to open up different buttons to see where payments were credited. I just spent 45 minutes going over payments with a parent--all because I can't see how much money they still have on their account. I also thought the price was a little high.

I get to use this app to keep check on my daughter throughout the day because her daycare uses it! I love that they update parents during the day and I love getting pictures and videos of my child while I'm at work. It makes me feel like I'm not missing anything.

The cons that I have are that sometimes when you open the app, it's slow to start. Also there isn't a place where I could send a picture to my child's teacher if I need to. There was an incident where my child's hat was lost and I couldn't send a picture through the Brightwheel app, so I had to try to describe the hat to the teacher through the app...

The level of detail and updates you can report on for childcare from pictures, videos, notes, timestamps for eating and potty.

Nachteile

Individual notifications for every event. They could have some settings to get notifications for like events in bulk by 30 mins like for a bunch of photos posted within a 30 min time frame you get one notification the first time and the restcomev at the end of 30 minutes as one.

I like how all my school documents are in one place. I can go check the calendar and reference the handbook when needed. I also like the communication and messaging feature that allows me to hear from staff regularly.

There are many features to utilize here. My problems lie with the schools lack of effort to use this technology. I also dislike how the invoicing is done. No notifications were sent prior to paying my invoice, it just automatically took it out. Since my school does not invoice the same day every month. I wish they would notify you prior to withdraw. I get notifications daily about messaging. The same can be use to notify when an invoice is posted.

The ease of communicating with parents throughout the day. As a lead teacher there is always incoming information that needs to be sent to the families and this app provides a quick and easy approach to alerting families at all hours of the day.

Posting photos. There has been a couple instances where I have sent the wrong photo to a family because I am unable to see which photos were selected before sending. Maybe have a secondary check before sending multiple pictures to a child.

This platform is the best for the organization as well as for the parents. The best perks of the Brightwheel is that is in real-time for everything. Did you have a child that is getting sick you can update the profile and the parent gets an alert. Another perk is when you have extended family picking up the customized pin numbers come in handy. The security is top-notch for staff and administration. Also, there are reports on the backend that also works fantastic for analytics. Fantastic platform!

Searching for a student can get a little clunky. The organization of classes is tedious. also would love to group students together in families like siblings instead of having to go into their accounts individually.

I used this software for a couple years with a day care my last company ran. I simply loved it. It was so easy to track when the child entered and left the facility, what they ate, naps, photos, events, etc. It was a secure place to email and communicate with parents as well. Our parents truly loved this app as well.

I work for a company that uses Brightwheel and I firmly believe that this app and others like it are awful. They enable helicopter parenting, distract teachers, and set a bad example for children. Kids watch their teachers pick up a phone or tablet constantly to enter Brightwheel information, but to them it’s no different than if their teacher were texting a friend; their eyes are not on the kids. Teachers should be engaged and present, not worrying about parents getting updates. If you want your child to have the best experience, don’t send them to a center that uses this app.

Brightwheel does a great job on seamlessly updating users about real time activities and announcements. Most users engage mostly in passively viewing photo updates, but the capability goes far beyond. The user can also send messages and track student attendance absences, and critical messages can be sent quickly to a specific small group out of a larger group.

Nachteile

It is easy for the user to ignore the bigger features, such as attendance tracking if the organization doesn’t enforce it. Most of the users only see photos, but don’t use it for anything else. I would not purchase if you’re looking for a more all-encompassing app, but don’t want to keep strict rules.

It is by far the easiest way for myself (center director) and my teachers to communicate with parents. I don't have to call parents for every little question throughout the day and our phone isn't ringing off the hook with parents calling about everything.

Nachteile

Sometimes, after it goes "off line" and has system updates, it doesn't work correctly for us for the next few days. I guess this should be expected with technology but it makes our life a little more complicated because the parents are expecting it to work perfectly all the time.

We love Brightwheel. From tracking our students to billing and ease of checking in and out and posting photos. Our families love the updates they receive throughout the day. Communication is key with families and Brightwheel makes it easy.

The customer service is slow and the answers provided sometimes aren’t what we need. It can be glitchy. We report anything like this so they can work on it.

I would like the app to add/ improve some features. Such as have an edit all feature and be able to do multiple edits at the same time. Instead of having to do it one by one. Also, the app can stop working random times through out the day and takes longer to reload/ refresh. Would be nice to have a safe feature that saves any information, pictures or videos in case the app crashes or stops working. It would be nice if you could take longer videos. Be able to upload documents without having to take a picture of it before posting.

As a parent I enjoy the ease and convenience of using Brightwheel. I have the app on my phone where I can keep up with my child's daily activities, message his teacher and also pay tuition. It also allows the teacher to post pictures and send them to me while I am at work.

I think for alerts and updates it is not necessary for Brightwheel to send them to every contact on a child's file. Just the primary would be fine.

This software is very user friendly. My staff can easily talk to parents through the messaging feature, we use it for our staff time cards as well as keeping track of student attendance, and parents are able to easily see pictures or updates about their child throughout the day. I pay based on the number of kids I have and they are generous with waiting to increase the price. Customer service is wonderful! They quickly respond to any issues I have and take suggestions to improve their software.

Nachteile

My biggest frustrations come from the staff side of the software. Staff can clock each other in and out so if you have untrustworthy staff then they can really mess up some time cards. Also the administrator cannot create a time card so it takes some extra steps in order to create a time card if someone forgot to clock in or out. The staff cannot see their hours within their own accounts and have no way of tracking if they accidentally forgot a clock in or out. The administrator spends a fair amount of time making time corrections as a result. Also it would be nice to be able to export all of the time cards at once, instead of doing each teacher one at a time. Luckily we don't have a large staff but it is still a time consuming endeavor. Brightwheel doesn't track overtime hours so I have to manually add up any hours over 40 to make sure I'm not underpaying the staff.

I recently got introduced to this app through my daughter's daycare and I am in love. I love that I am notified when my husband gets her dropped off, when there is any communication from her school, and updates about her day. This is much more efficient than receiving emails that often get lost in spam boxes. I always get a prompt response through this app. It allows me to be as hands on as needed throughout the day! There are many functions to where you can update profile information, do daily check in and check out, see the calendar, access lesson plans, and see any other documents. This app takes the hassle out of having to call the office and be placed on hold. I highly recommend this app!

Nachteile

I do not have cons about the app. At first I did not like that I had to wait for an invite by my daughter's school. I thought it would have been easier if I could have just signed up myself until I realized that this was for safety. If anyone could just access the app an put in your child's info that could be dangerous. So, basically what I initially thought was a con, is actually another pro of using the app. My child's safety is ensured!

The fact that it brings most used features into one easy to use package. Updates are frequent and mostly useful, increasing the functionality of the app (also listed as a con below). I can also trust that parents can figure out the app fairly easily without having to teach each family how to use it.

Cost - while not a lot on a per child basis, it does add up. Especially given the fact that the documentation part of the software is messy and not as user friendly, which makes it unusable at this point. There is also a greater up-front cost with iPads/Tablets.
App updates - updates are good, but features are updated without notice. This leaves the user/teacher scrambling to figure out the new features and changes before children get in.
Lack of supervisor control - the app could use more lock down features so management can limit what can be done from a single user.

It updates you every time your child uses the restroom, the meals provided how much they ate, when they go outside, nap time etc. Gives me more relief to know what my child is doing at daycare.

It is very easy to check students in/out. Each parent has their own code. The program keeps track of the attendance for students and staff. The most wonderful feature is taking pictures and sending it to the parents directly from the app. Truly amazing idea that is well put together.

I am a preschool teach turned Director Owner and I am not very good with the whole computer thing. With brightwheel I do not need to be computer smart. I have been able to figure out everything by myself! I appreciate the time they have put into developing this app to make is easy to use for Directors, Teachers and Parents. I have never had to explain how to use the app to anyone. I use it for attendance, Daily Reports, Billing, Assessments and Messaging parent back and forth.

I really love everything about brightwheel and every time they upgrade something I am like WOW I love it even more. They are constantly improving on what I think is already really good. When I do have a suggestion I message them and they say they will pass it on. Several messages I have sent are now part of the app so they are listening.

We’ve been using brightwheel at our school since May 2016. It’s super easy to use and they keep enhancing the software and making it better. Invoicing is super easy. The cost is relatively low for the value that we get. It allows me to track kids and know who is here and ratios with ease.

Nachteile

There are a couple of things I don’t like. For example once a parent has issued a partial payment on an invoice, you can’t change/edit the invoice. I also don’t like that brightwheel isn’t integrated with PayPal. A lot of our families want to use PayPal which requires me to go in an manually mark payments as paid.

I absolutely love how easy the app is to use but also how detailed it can get when it comes to my daycare providers communication with me. I have had zero issues with the app so far.

Brightwheel is so easy to use and is very organized. It's easy to find the information you're looking for (intake, last diaper change, how long a child napped) and to communicate with parents. The check in/check out feature allows you to easily see how many children are in attendance and even lets you view staff to child ratios! I love being able to send photos and videos to parents in a secure, private platform that's easy to access.

Nachteile

This app works better for smaller numbers of children. My summer program used it only for check in/check out numbers, messaging parents, getting quick information (phone numbers, allergies, etc), and occasional photos or videos. We had a large group of school agers (average of 30 children each day) and ran a large group for activities. Had we been separated into smaller groups, we would have been able to add more into each child's log daily.

I have found that in my preschool classroom we can easily communicate with parents through the notes as well as photos and videos. This software allows me to use Missouri State Standards to show what goals my students meet through play and social interactions with each other. I am able to do my attendance and lunch count as well as document sleeping patterns of my students. I can also document absences. Parents get immediate feedback on their child's day.

Nachteile

As of right now I can put multiple pictures on at one time, unless I am adding custom goals then I can only do one picture at a time. There are times where I have more than one photo for certain custom goals. I would like to be able to have the option to add more than one photo when using this. The only other thing that can make brightwheel hard it that it looks different depending on the devise you are using. The IPad version is different than the app version and both are different than the computer version. If these were a little more streamlined that would be helpful.

It is easy to use! I am the person who trains staff and parents alike how to use the app and nine times out of ten, people pick it up very easily. It is intuitive and very user friendly. I even have to use it on multiple platforms and OS devices and feel very comfortable switching back and forth.

There are many times where I find myself wishing there were more features and things that might benefit a program our size. I've shared my feedback with the Brightwheel team and the answer seems to be that they are working on it, but aren't quite there yet.
