I liked how at first, the platform seemed so nondescript. When I got to use it more, that is when I realized just how powerful Apify was. It helped me create multiple projects, and all of them required a way to automate my research. The platform also allows you to customize how you extract the data, what format will you export it to, and options to select which data from the dataset you wish to export to avoid adding fluff to your output.

Nachteile

I wish there was a way to integrate its API with OpenAI's API, that way I could integrate this part of the process with an LLM tool and streamline the overall operation even more.

Apify is incredibly powerful, yet flexible. There are virtually no limits to what web scraping tools you can build using it.

For non-developers like myself, there is a learning curve. Easier error codes for non-technical users like myself would help me build actors much quicker.

It does what it says it does and, does it well. Well priced and has a good selection of pre-made 'actors', as well as the functionality to create, host and sell your own actors

Sometimes it takes a while for the creator of an actor to reply when reached out to. But, I understand they're users of the site, not staff.

I liked the large set of ready-made actors, their flexible configuration and the ability to easily obtain data via API, as well as the availability of renewable credits to try the service played a decisive role in my choice.

The only thing I didn't like was that you can't buy as many credits as you need. Instead, you have to buy the minimum plan, which is too much for my needs.

Its really easy and straightforward to start using Apify platform, the documentation is great. And bonus for webscraping is the open-source Crawlee library, that made my scraping experience 10x faster than doing it the old school way.

I wanted to have a very broad understanding of businesses in my region based on the types of businesses offered. I knew Google Maps very well and when I learned that Apify had a scraper that could grab large amounts of Maps results I was very excited. It took a few tries to get the setup working as I wanted but wow! I quickly ran through the free starter offer and am now a happy paying user.

I takes some trial and error to find an actor that does what you want. Then learning how that actor works takes a little more time. Communicating with the builder of the actor was very easy and helped a lot.

we discussed this with the product advocate at apify as well, currently there is a feature to queue runs when running through api, for example: if you send 300 request and you have 256gb ram allocation on apify it will limit it to obviously 256 concurrent runs assuming that each run takes up 1gig of ram, which is different for every actor; so in this case the rest of the runs 44 will not run at all they will not queue up you have to wait for the runs to finish so that you can run these separately in the next batch.

It's the best out there, so it's hard to talk about the things I don't like. Either way, I'd love to see a couple of features that will save some time if present. I'm glad to say that I've already contacted Apify about them and one is already in their pipeline!

The time it takes to run an actor is a major bottleneck(restarting actor every time a request has been made) when working with limited RAM, with new Standby mode I am excited to test whether that can be addressed.

- Trial period with credits to test a few APIs and integrations. The limit was high enough for me to get a good idea of the APIs I want to use and find one that works well for me.
- Direct communication with the developers. I had a small issue which was resolved immediately. I also made a suggestion for one more data point to be extracted. It was added in no time, which was fantastic.
- Support and Apify tour - the chance to talk to somebody from the team about the platform and for them to recommend sections and features based on your needs and use case. I had a session with Cait. She was brilliant, answered all my questions and suggested functionalities that I hadn't discovered but will definitely make use of going forward.
- Swift approval of my application for student discount. Took 2 minutes to get an approval after my application.

Nachteile

Can't say that I have anything negative to say do far. If I need to add one, that would be price. I have no direct comparison as I have not tested any alternatives. And since I have no time to search for alternative solutions (dissertation deadline fast approaching) and I am happy with this one so far - I will go with it. During my Apify tour, Cait did suggest that students can apply for Student discount. I wish I had known / applied for it before I had moved on to Starter plan. As a student, I am paying for everything by myself and I can already say that I will need to spend $200+ to get the data that I need.
