Rise HRIS, a good starter, but needs for work to be a long lasting program
Probably one of the simplest to use HRIS out there. It has every features that you want in an HRIS: people management, payroll, recruitment, onboarding, time and attendance and performance review. However, except for payroll, other features seem to touch just the surface of HRs' needs. You can use them, but they not optimal.

The intuitive design, everything is simple and straightforward. It didn't take much time to get to know the it completely.

Missing the flexibilities in tayloring the features to better serve the organization's needs.

My go-to for everything
I love the support team and the system. If I could bully any company I move to in the future to use Rise, I would. (I know, I'm mean.)
Vorteile
I love that Rise has an HRMS system that is very user friendly, but I think my absolute favourite part is the scheduling, attendance, time off and payroll systems all being integrated. I enter a time off date for a staff member in ONE spot, the employees' Time Off Dashboard, and that's it. It carries over to payroll, to the schedule, and to time & attendance. It makes for less steps (for me to forget to enter) and it's correct each time because the entry was only done once.
Nachteile
I wish RISE would pay more attention to their app and it's functionality. It crashes a lot, often just doesnt load, and there's no Admin Option on the app, so if I want to review anything it has to be done from a computer.

Canadian company, great product, great price and great service
We've been using Rise for over 7 years and it's improved greatly over that time, they are constantly evolving but their customer service has always been great and consistent, which is important to us.

Lower Mainland based, quick service
Overall, it's been great. Best software of all the software I use in my day to day life. Unproblematic for what I use it for, which is payroll.
Vorteile
I love that Rise is based in the lower mainland. They always have agents that are respectful, kind and efficient. Even when my problem may seem like a pain in the butt, so to speak, they are very patient. This platform seems easy to use and streamlined for my payroll needs.

I do wish Rise connected to my accounting software.

Almost a year in, and loving Rise so far
We've had a great experience with Rise, and it has streamlined a lot of our processes, so we can have our onboarding, payroll, schedule, time off all tracked in the same software.
Vorteile
Rise is easy to use, and the payroll processing module works very well. It's easy to modify a pay run without having to do a lot of tedious back-and-forth with Rise, and there are many check points through the process to make sure that all the information entered is correct before approval.
Nachteile
We could use a standardized info sheet to give to new employees about how to use the timecards in Rise. We've found a few challenges getting new staff comfortable with the time tracking system.

What I like about Rise
Vorteile
The payroll is easy to use. Good customer service. Like the reminders I am getting, so never forget to process. Also, I can process it long enough before due date and it does not get posted until due date, so any changes can be made during that period.

Everything is easy. People are friendly and helpful!

I find payroll easy to use and process. The customer support team has been really great when I call in and ask questions. The support is very important to me.
Nachteile
small glitches on moving from one company to another in downloading PDF files (we do payroll for 5 different companies) I like the convenience of switching over, but find that on the results page, the PDFs download. This could also by an issue on our back end. I've notified RISE on it and they will look into it for me :)

Small but mighty.
As an HR department of one, a one-stop-shop is time saving and has eliminated the need for multiple entry of data across various platforms.
Vorteile
Brokering a group plan for a collective of small group plans is BRILLIANT and offers a comprehensive and affordable benefits plan for small and medium sized businesses that otherwise would not be able to afford one.
Nachteile
The ATS is lacking and limited compared to its competitors in terms of functionality.

Glitchy product, poor customer care
I used to be a big supporter of RISE, them being Canadian small business but now I am walking away as I don't think the product or support will improve. The company seems to be focused on adding new features but basic functionality that is a must-have is not working properly.
Vorteile
My organization signed up with RISE for payroll over 4 years ago. The program looks nice and simple to navigate.
Nachteile
Customer care over the last couple of years has drastically fallen. Our issues are unresolved for weeks and we have to keep following up to get answers. The program has a lot of bugs or glitches and you can't fix anything or no workarounds can be found. The reports are super basic and no setting can be saved, resulting in a lot of re-work.

Payroll solution is good. HRIS is not.
It is clear that the company is not focusing on customer feedback in any capacity. I have escalated our very long list of concerns after 2 years and many of them seem to be complete news to development leadership.
I really really wanted this to work out, and I think the company is trying, but I am not sure there is light at the end of this tunnel. There are better solutions out there for comparable cost - don't waste your time with Rise if you are looking for an HRIS.
I would only recommend the payroll product.

Payroll solution works well (intermittent EHT remittance issues aside). For an Ontario-based company with under 200 salaried employees, RiseHR payroll solution does the job well.
Time Off user interface and employee end-user experience has been positive - employees like the tool and find it user-friendly.
Nachteile
We did not end up with a solution that was sold to us 2 years ago. The company focus switched entirely, several times and no new features or modules have been rolled out in two long years (no Performance, no ATS, no employee Onboarding, no Pulse Surveys). Not one piece of feedback has been incorporated, some very small, obvious and painful (like being able to report time off balances for current employees only or at least have a column of status by which to sort).
Their website is still advertising benefits integration and pulse surveys, none of which are actually active modules currently available. The entire HRIS right now consists of Time Off and Employee directory (not even employee self-service right now). This is blatant misrepresentation.

We've been using Rise for payroll and absolutely love it
Vorteile
As our company has grown Rise has always been able to accommodate anything we need. I also cant say enough good things about their customer support; from their support onboarding to quickly answering any questions that come up from payroll to payroll I have always been so impressed.

Once a payroll has been submitted there is no way to reopen it, make changes, and resubmit. i do wish I had this ability but any time we've made a mistake or needed to make a change they have always worked with us to find a solution.

I would describe RISE an and "okay" payroll system. It is good for companies with simple...
Vorteile
user friendly, simple and intuitive to learn. flexibility of the JR report. I like the payroll input sheet and that it and all reports can be exported. running payroll is fairly simple.
Nachteile
doesn't have some feature we need for more complicated payroll. Customer service has been BAD. Customer service and software issues especially on the GL coding side. The customer service reps don't seem to have much knowledge of payroll or accounting standards and practices. often find things are set up incorrectly or they are not able to provide much assistance.

Love this software, it's very user friendly, saved my lots time with the whole payroll process

User friendly - the custom reports saved me lots time while reconcile payroll on a monthly and yearly basis.
Customer service - Whenever I need help, the support team is always there !
Nachteile
We did experienced few discrepancies while we transfer YTD into the system. Thus, at year end, we had some issues with CPP and EI YTD total. Also, for employee benefit , there were few errors in the input sheet. Rise can improve the accuracy in terms of manual adjustment

Great to begin with but diminished quickly given the frustrations listed below.
Payroll and time-off integration has been quite helpful.
Vorteile
- Payroll and time-off are integrated;
- Affordable for small orgs;
- Reports on birthdays and anniversaries are quite useful.
Nachteile
- Error in calculating carry-over days both years that I've managed the platform which resulted in manual recalculations and adjustments;
- When running reports, employees who are no longer at the org are included;
- Period of time (less frequent now) where the platform constantly ran error messages that prevented some team members from logging in and being able to use the platform;
- Would be great if the time-off calendar integrated with Google Calendar.

I love the emailing of pay statements and T Slips!
Easy of use, can be done anywhere and the email of the pay statements. The payroll is great for any size company, big or small.

The software is accessible from any device you use, it's easy to use and I love the emailing of pay statements and t slips. I also like the ease of the payroll input screen, adding or changing employees, etc.
Nachteile
I don't really have any cons other than the reports as they can be difficult to create. I also find it frustrating at times if Rise does not communicate software changes that affect the user but that isn't often.

Still getting going but good so far
At this point I have a lot more to learn to customize my experience as a manager but I am enjoying what I have explored so far. I like seeing scheduling, time sheets, recruiting all in one place. Excited to see how we are going to utilize it even more in the future.

The onboarding process has been simple and straightforward. I like that the dashboard is intuitive and is customized for what your position is, only showing you the things that you have permissions for.
Nachteile
Some of the language can be a touch ambiguous in what exactly they are asking for. Specifically I am talking about the scheduling page where it is asking for frequency and a couple other items. I noticed that I don't seem to get notifications for missed punches, which would be super useful. That being said, I haven't dug into my settings to see if there are options for this.

Great user experience
As someone who has NEVER worked in HR and Finance, my onboarding specialist [sensitive content hidden] was amazing. She consistently checked in with me, all calls were recorded and sent to me within 24 hours. There is a lot of information to help if you have questions. [sensitive content hidden] never made me feel like I couldn't reach out to her with questions. It was the most consistent and easy onboarding I have been apart of.

Great product for Canadian payroll, time tracking and schedule and HR integration
We're super happy. We needed a more in-depoth, robust, integrated payroll and HR solution and this was perfect.

I like the scheduling and time tracking. We love the integration with Payroll. Saved SO much time as we were doing everything manually before.
Nachteile
I find it a bit overwhelming when figuring out how to set everything up - and where to go to access certain information, as some is stored in the HR section and some is stored in the Payroll section.Improvements can definitely be made in the scheduling and time tracking module. For example, the ability for other employees to see other employees schedules within the app - for more transparent shift delegation, capacity planning, shift-swapping, etc.

I'm rating it a 9/10. Overall, it has been very helpful as a tool.

It has been an awesome experience, and I have learned to easily navigate along the way. CS is also very helpful and always has been.

I would say recent glitches have been a struggle, and sometimes, it's not always compatible with our hardware, takes a lot of time to download reports or just to open the features of the app.

Easy to use solution for payroll, vacation, and more, at a reasonable price
Rise allows us to not worry about payroll. It takes a few minutes each week to process the pay run and that's it. It also has lots of flexibility for various vacation and time off policies.

We got signed up with Rise for the payroll functionality, but also have come to appreciate the vacation / time off features as well as the job posting / applicant tracking feature.
Nachteile
Some features are found in unintuitive places, like a link to the calendar feed for who's out.

Rise Payroll
Overall, I really like Rise and the issues I pointed out are not enough to make me think of switching to another platform.

Ease of setup and use. Very quick to learn and the support is amazing

*It can be time consuming to create a report to get the exact information you're looking for.*Not all screens have the same functionality - search an employee: sometimes you can tab after typing the name, sometimes you have to hit enter*When you're entering time in the grid, the headers aren't locked in place, so you have to scroll up to see what column you're in when*Workers Compensation isn't configured to correctly calculate premiums for remote workers in other provinces - this results in manual calculations and lots of extra time. There needs to be a field that overrides the province of employment since the province of residence is what determines the WC rates.

1 year of Using Rise for HR Management, Payroll, and Benefits
It has been fantastic, overall. We have had high adoption rate with our staff who seem to like using this system. It has reduced our over all workload while also providing improved services to our employees.
Vorteile
I most appreciate the all in one solution. It is great to have one to go place for all our staff management needs.
Nachteile
It is still a new company and from time to time things don't work exactly perfect. Some of the reporting options could be improved. But overall I can find the info I need. Looking forward to more integration with our accounting system.

It has been difficult, conflicting direction, changes and poor onboarding process, too many needs cannot be met. feels like the wrong platform for our custom business but I have to say Rise support staff and managers have gone over and above trying to support us. We acknowledge we have not been the perfect client and have issues as well, perhaps we are too needy for what rise can support

Rise is worth your consideration
Our experience with Rise hase been positive overall. Getting support via email or chat is sometimes frustrating but issues/difficulties are always addressed in a timely manner and followed up.
Vorteile
We use direct deposit payroll and have Rise pay our deduction payments to CRA.It is fairly straightforward to set up pension and benefit aspects of payroll.
Nachteile
It would be worth your while to find someone with payroll experience when fiest setting up your payroll. Customer Support is helpful but you will need to understand some payroll specific language.

First Impressions
Vorteile
I like that there are many features that are important and the user experience is great for the employees. The chat feature is great and I've always had a positive interaction with those I'm connecting with there. Those that are part of the help-desk team in the chat feature are wonderful. The Goals section of the software is really great.
Nachteile
There could be some improvements made with the software specifically with the time off approval flows of having tiered approvals and some more flexibility with the performance review section and check-ins. The implementation lacked effective communication and there were times where we felt abandoned. We also implemented Rise Health as our broker and I'm disappointed to say that this was a terrible experience. After speaking with the [sensitive content hidden] of Rise, it appears that many of the procedures that are supposed to be followed were not and we're still having issues with the implementation at two months post launch. Until Rise and GSC can work more seamlessly together, I would not recommend implementing Rise Health.

Room for Improvement
RISE has taken away alot of manual tracking and spreadsheets so it saves time for the HR team and managers with admin tasks. Employees are more in control of their information, and can make changes/requests very easily. The tech team seems to move a bit slow, and not sure if its due to lack of staff or a high number of service tickets, but it can be a bit frustrating waiting for a resolution for 7-15 business days.
Vorteile
I like that it is a whole program, meaning admins and employees can go to one spot to get information, and you do not have to deal with multiple platforms and programs. The KB articles are wonderful resources to use to solve problems/issues without having to send in a ticket. However there is still room for improvement, with the functionality of the the various modules speaking to each other. Also needs some simple fixes, like the calendar having a choose the date instead of scrolling month by month; but overall its a great program.
Nachteile
The reporting feature within payroll is very complicated, hard to pull data that we need so we end up having to create our own reports. Some of the modules do not speak to each other; changing a start date doesnt flow over the compensation start dates, onboarding defaults to work email and phone number when should go to personal; calendars are tedious as you cant choose a date, but need to scroll month by month. Its definitely a work in progress with areas to improve quite easily.

Getting personalized customer service is more difficult now than when it was free.
I was a pretty happy customer initially but after transitioning from the free to the paid service, have experienced worse customer support. I also find it frustrating that the payroll cutoff dates are so far out from the actual pay date. When my staff person was ill with covid, I was forced to predict a full week of work for her, which she ended up not being able to work, and so she was overpaid for 31 hours and her ROE is incorrect. When she was able to return to work over a month later, she was in the position of owing me those 31 hours.
Vorteile
I am a first time business owner and first time administering payroll so using Rise was amazing as they took care of the deductions and direct deposits for my team and it was a huge weight off my shoulders. The service was free for companies with less than 10 employees which was amazing. When I needed help I was usually able to get help quickly either by online chat (even though times to access it were quite limited) or by email and I really appreciated getting to communicate back and forth with difficulties I was having or mistakes that I made. I definitely made the most of the system and customer service was amazing and patient with me.
Nachteile
The free service was discontinued and now that I am a paying customer, I have a harder time accessing customer support which was disappointing and counter intuitive. I can no longer access online chat at all and the last issue I had, for which I submitted two tickets, was never responded to. And it was a serious issue. I had a staff member fall seriously ill to covid and took an extended leave and I completed her ROE incorrectly which has delayed her ability to collect EI. I initially waited to see if I would get a response before completing the ROE myself, but it was over a week and I had heard nothing back, despite submitting a second ticket, so I just did it on my own, made an error and as I mentioned, delayed her support response. It was a rep at EI who called to clarify the mistake I made so that her application could proceed.

Vorteile
The adhoc payroll process is a breeze, and very user friendly. ROE's are very quick, we've had a few issues with the addresses that were populated into the ROE's, so check closely before finalizing them.
Chat feature is wonderful, and the support staff behind the scenes are always willing to help with issues. Being able to resolve an issue via a chat is wonderful. The chat hours being extended beyond 8 - 5 would be great. Quite often payroll works after hours (especially on Friday), so running into a problem after hours does cause issues. I recently had a situation where I called and got the answering service, and was told I had to call back on Monday. The answering service did pass my message to someone, and I did in the end get a call. It would have been better if the answering service had told me that they would pass my message on to someone, with the hopes that they'd return my call before Monday.
Nachteile
We've made several recommendations to Rise regarding things that could make the system a bit more user friendly. The response we've received is that any change would effect every client. Most of the changes we've suggested would probably be 'pain points' for any client using the system. This was a bit disappointing, as GroupHEALTH is a very client focused business, and I felt that Rise was as well. We do anything we can to have a better client experience.

Quite a disappointment
Vorteile
It is a Canadian company. It served the general purpose of payroll for our start-up. It had some great merits but in the latest update, the positives were really taken away.
Nachteile
2 months ago, I signed up for their Rise Lite platform which was promised to be free for life up until 20 employees. Since then, I've signed an agreement that clearly says it is free for life. Last month I received a newsletter from them informing me that they are no longer offering free for life and that I will need to pay $30/mo + $6/mo/employee. It really felt like deceptive sales tactics to acquire users, get them to invest time and energy into learning how to use their product and flip the switch and make them pay.
Furthermore, their website's pricing page has absolutely no mention about a base $30/mo. Their cheapest plan is listed at $6/mo/employee (no disclaimer, no information about $30). I'm not sure if this $30 is exclusive to previous customers or to new customers as well. I sent them an email but they are currently dodging the question. Everything feels so shady here.
Other than the above, their product has quite a few bugs. It is not intuitive to use and you constantly need to reach out to their support or read their support page to figure out how to use their platform.

I'm sorry that this change has been frustrating for you. While we thrived to offer Rise Lite free payroll for the past three 3 years for thousands of businesses, the amount of R&D and support required is no longer sustainable.
As Rise evolved into an all-in-one platform that seamlessly integrates payroll, HR, performance, time tracking, benefits and more, we wanted to further our commitment to a single people-centric platform rather than standalone products such as Rise Lite.
We hope that our clients who enjoyed Rise Lite in the past can justify the small fee for the value being offered with Rise Start, which includes not just payroll but essential HR features that help foster engagement and retention while cutting down on admin work.
The monthly base charge applies to clients with under 20 employees and covers fixed activities like T4s, ROEs, government remittances, reporting and live support.
I hope this helps clarify the reasons behind the decision.

Rise is Great!
Vorteile
Rise is so easy to use and has a great user interface. It is so simple to navigate through to system to find what I need. I love the payroll input sheet, it makes it so easy to make changes to payroll, and I can easily view changes to an employees pay without having to submit the entire run. Such a time saver! The Customer Support Team is also amazing, it is always easy to get ahold of them when needed.
Nachteile
Sometimes I will notice small glitches in the system, for example a date being in French when I have selected English for the system. Whenever I see something like this, the Customer Support Team is always able to investigate and resolve it quickly.
