Great HR Software for Small Businesses
Overall, this is a great HR application for small businesses. There are a lot of very useful out-of-box features available, and the pricing model doesn't change if you are under a certain number of users so there is room for growth without continuously increasing your costs. Compared to other HR applications we researched, this was the most user-friendly for the best price. If you are looking to automate some of your HR work, I highly recommend implementing BambooHR. It has greatly improved the organization of our HR processes.

BambooHR is an easy to use and very comprehensive HR software that offers a lot of valuable and high-use out-of-box features. Our initial primary uses of the software were aggregation and consolidation of personnel information, PTO tracking, and general communication of company announcements to the team. As we got further into the product offerings, we also began to heavily utilize the onboarding, offboarding, and recruiting features, all of which were previously done using very manual processes. BambooHR allowed us to discontinue using spreadsheets and other manual forms for very common and basic HR functions, while housing them under one roof. It also provided our employees with a easier way to contribute to their own personnel profiles, and while as request and track PTO.
Nachteile
To properly utilize BambooHR according to your companies specific HR processes, there is a lot of individual and time-intensive setup involved. The platform is fairly customizable, but only if you are willing to invest significant time into configuring the features. While we expected a significant time investment into setting up the application, we were disappointed to learn that we would not have a dedicated account manager to help us with the setup process. We had to learn everything about the platform on our own through the BambooHR help portal, or by calling the customer service number and waiting for a representative to be available. We also experience a price increase only a few month after signing up for the service. We were also disappointed to learn that the integrations with Google and Slack are very limited, and while some information can be passed between the systems, we needed to customize some of the API calls in order to share more useful information with the team. There are definitely some limitations to their integrations.

Need continuous feedback and development
when I worked for a business with highly complex HR needs we had to consider alternative solutions. it should include different province taxation, advanced deductions and international payroll options. it should be more optimized to run more faster, be more smoother and be feature-rich.
Vorteile
it seems to be very intuitive and easy to navigate interface. Very simple for anyone really to use without a huge learning curbe. It has employee data management, time off tracking and performance management. It also allows staff to access and manage their own information hence reducing hr's workload. it also can easily be used with other apps and platforms and offers integrations.
Nachteile
pricing is expensive with the upfront cost. It also requires add-ons and it is less robuts than dedicated payroll solutions. The customization I also find is limited. I find that if the companies are large, other systems are better suited than fit their needs than Bamboo HR.

Bamboo HR is absolutely suitable
Overall, we didnt think it was a bad software solution for HR use. It allowed for time and expense tracking, benefits administration and employee unboard and oerformance review and tracking. We just preferred our currebt solution and decided to stick with it.

We thought the backend/admin user interface was very easy to navigate and didnt require alot of training to be able to use the prgram efficiently.

It's great, but to take care subsidiaires, it needs more features
The overall experience with BambooHR is great. My company with 150 employees is using it. However, as mentioned for Cons, it needs more features for companies with subsidiaries

Bamboo HR's UX is straight forward. It's easy to find where payroll is, org chart is and etc. Since BambooHR should be simple for all the employees to easily use, having straight forward UX is great.
Nachteile
Bamboohr doesn't provide subsidiaries options. It works for one single company. However, these days, there are lots of companies with subsidiaries and manage them. BambooHR doesn't support that option. Therefore from the perspective of management, BambooHR doesn't satisfy all demands.

most popular HR/ATS and US payroll solution
It is definitely the leader of the market. We use it for our construction project in Texas and recomment for use without reservations.
Vorteile
It is one of the most popular HR systems including ATS and Payrol. Useful feature is geolocation tracking within the system to see if the work was reported for the definite location. Good reporting tools. Mainly focused on US payroll capabilities. Most HR know it so they can onboard fast and start working in it. Good mobile app for clock in work done and automatic overtime calculations.
Nachteile
Not good if you need to hire international contractors. Good to have automated clock in with attendance control report to track late start. Good to have more RPA automations. No specific tools for sourcing candidates with marketing automation inside.

Creating Structure with Bamboo HR
While we've been using Bamboo HR for nearly two years, we have yet to fully utilize all of their features. I look forward to scaling our Centre with the confidence that Bamboo HR can scale with us.

Largely, the cost of add-ons and customization for small, non-profit and charitable organizations. However, the per-person cost does help keep things reasonable, we just have difficulty scaling to receive the discounts of larger organizations.

Bamboo is constantly listening to what customers want and need and are expanding with incredible features all the time. I have worked on many HRIS and this is by far my favourite! I am a very happy Bamboo customer. Thank you for all your great work. You have an incredibly talented group of employees.

It is easy to use for the back end and front end users. The Support Heroes are always so friendly and helpful and I have never not been able to get the assistance I need when I need it. They are constantly listening to what customers want and need an are expanding with incredible features all the time. I have worked on many HRIS and this is by far my favourite! the performance management system could be a bit more customizable and robust. We have had to create a couple extra tools for managers and staff to use outside of this platform. Wish there were a few more features when rating the employees, based on their skills.
I do wish that the employee community was something we could purchase additionally and not bundled with other products we do not feel we need right now.
Would love if the system integrated with Ceridian Payroll.. would make things easier.

Cost effective HRIS with some great features. Lacking in others
Overall, BambooHR has been slipping in the last year or so. New packaging/pricing that is worse, customer support stretched thin, features lacking with a roadmap that still misses the mark. This isn't just me saying this, as others are talking about this as well. Their dedicated HR Slack workspace is often just issues, complaints, etc., which mostly are met with radio silence from BambooHR. When we implemented them, I think they were much better than what they have become now.
If you are a small business, BambooHR is a great product with their new Core package being my recommendation. If you are even approaching 30, 40, 50+ employees, or are international, I would suggest maybe looking elsewhere.
Vorteile
I really enjoy many aspects of BambooHR. It is a cost effective solution for small to medium businesses. Great with onboarding/hiring, employee documentation & profiles, UI and navigation, etc. Also, the payroll part of the system has come a long way and is now a well designed feature that is easy to use.
Their customer support team, when you can get ahold of them, is fantastic. One of the best things about BambooHR.
Nachteile
It lacks either features entirely, or lacks complexity of competitors. The ATS and Performance parts are extremely lacking with limited options to customize or enhance. Missing many common features that other platforms have had for many years now.
A general theme with BambooHR is that you can only go so deep when it comes to how you can customize things. The two built in surveys they offer, for example, have no option to customize, nor can you run custom surveys at all, which is a shame.
Additionally, BambooHR recently decided to completely redo their package and pricing structure and it is not a good change. We are on a grandfathered package that they are going to be dropping support for in some cases. There is no incentive to switch to one of the other packages because one offers less at almost the same cost, and the other adds on 3 features that are either redundant, not really a full feature, or that we already have. Performance was an add-on and is now included with the Pro package, which is way more costly.
Customer support team, as mentioned in Pros, is great, but the chat feature is never available anymore and sometimes it feels like they have so many inquiries that they would rather point the finger at other things versus solving problems and working with customers.
If you are an international company, BambooHR is extremely lacking in support there. You can tell that BambooHR was built with US employees in mind first and many things just don't work in other countries, or you have to find workarounds.
In my opinion, BambooHR has become what I think they have tried to not be, which is a corporate entity selling a product versus selling a mission/vision of setting people free to do great work. They claim to listen to their customer base, but it is clear when talking to other customers that they don't.

Great for US focused business - but a bit manual
Generally good for a small business of our size (30 remote based employees). We also have the add on engage pack that means we can easily run bi-annual reviews (though these are also only top down - no options for 360 or much customisation here). We will eventually be looking for a more customisable approach as we scale up, but for now it gets the job done and is easy for the team to use.

Ease of set up and roll out to the employees. From an admin perspective it is pretty easy to use and customise to suit your business needs.
Their support team are also generally on hand to help with customisation or step by step instructions if you get stuck
Nachteile
It's very US first, so for a small UK/EU based business it might not be the most suitable. We spend quite a lot of time having to manually set up all the various pubic holidays for our entire team and then also manually add these to their PTO lists too so that they show up for everyone in the 'who is out' calendar. This is very time consuming and a simple toggle field to share this auto populated info with all employees would solve this.
Also would like to be able to customise the colours to our actual branding - there is nothing close to it from their predefined colours

BambooHR is a winner!
Overall, I'll give BambooHR an 8 out of 10 rating. I think for the pricing, I'd give it a 10 out of 10. It offers good core functionality and ease of use. I'm quite impressed and happy with our selection.
Vorteile
Bamboo is easy to use, even for a non-tech/HRIS person. We were able to use the HR team w/ the support of the BHR team to design and buildout. Additionally, it is easy for employees to use--very intuitive.
We were also able to use this platform globally, whereas other platforms didn't have the capability.
Nachteile
BHR still is in the younger stages of buildout. There is some functionally that I had with other HRIMs that are missing from Bamboo including a more defined benefits platform and more integration capability.

Your Go-To HR Functions
Magnificent overall! I appreciate the fact that we can even use it for training, onboarding, looking for other files, tracking employees, their status and so much more. This is really a good tool to have.
Vorteile
I love BambooHR in so many aspects. But my favorite would be how it can be integrated into other HR Software Tools and job boards. My work as a Technical Recruiter is to hunt for the right candidate and it became easier to do so when we integrated BambooHR to other tools we have.
Nachteile
The function of uploading the candidate's resume and manually entering the details one by one is pretty time-consuming. I am hopeful it will be better soon!

Bamboo took us to the next level
It's been great. The few times we couldn't figure something out ourselves, Bamboo has excellent help documents and Bamboo's support is quick and extremely helpful.
Vorteile
It's convenient, well organized, helps us meet compliance requirements and provide better support to our employees. Love the performance management tools and the employee satisfaction surveys.
Nachteile
Not really a con, but took us a couple of tries to get onboarding process perfected.

It works. I feel bamboohr is a great partner to us.

I love that bamboohr serves as a multifacety HR management system very easy to integrate. Like The onboarding funtionalities, it works as a database that makes our hiring process much more easy.

You need to make sure there is a team trained and make sure You train others as time goes on because people who don't know basics can mess up You set up. It can get complicated

It does not have everything but it is a good HR tool
Vorteile
They do have a great program to help map out your company org and everyone will have access to it. Also the PTO approval portion was great for individuals but I wish you could see the entire company or they provide a calendar that shows who is off each day so we do not have to use outlook. The document storage and signature process is flawless.
They also have a great search functionality that lets you search for employees and see their profile, job responsibilities etc. It was really helpful when I was new at the company
Nachteile
My only thing is related to time off, a shared calendar for the entire company would be ideal. I have heard that it was difficult to manage pay from, but I personally was not involved in that portion.

Solid system that's easy to use
I've been using some form of HRIS in my previous three positions. None has worked as well as BambooHR, so I enjoy using it, I believe employees prefer it to the others I've used, and I also believe it makes everyone's job easier.
Vorteile
BambooHR is really intuitive, and easy for employees to use and locate information which inherently makes my job easier. It is also reliable. There are very few instances where the system doesn't work as designed. The ATS is the star utilization, but PTO and all other personnel info systems are also great. Performance is good, too.
Nachteile
Some of the ancillary products need more development, like benefit administration and payroll. I'd like to see more integrations, as well.

BambooHR Review
Overall, the experience was BambooHR was okay. It wasn't the best but it wasn't the worst either. We opted to leave BambooHR for a more robust platform that offered more support with payroll compliance, but there are features from BambooHR that I miss.
Vorteile
BambooHR is great for companies that are looking for the best bang for their buck. The platform is very esthetically pleasing and pretty user friendly. You are able to easily update payroll and tax information on your own. They have nice features that competitors like ADP don't have currently like linking the PTO requests to google calendar. If you have a smaller headcount with an easy payroll, this is the route to go.
Nachteile
You get what you pay for. The support is not the best nor the fastest if you need assistance with something. They offered a live chat feature, but many times could not answer my question immediately and had to create a case for an expert to review. There was no way to call into a support line for immediate assistance. You had to be very careful when terminating an employee because if you listed the wrong final paycheck date, they would disappear off of the payroll and you would have to update the date to add them back in.

BambooHR has been a great product for a quickly expanding.
Vorteile
Design, user-friendly, easy of use, easy to set up.
Nachteile
Would like file signature to work differently. It would be great if forms were available to all employees to just fill out and then it would move through the pre-set approval process. Not require a form to be emailed by a management member to someone or themselves to fill out.
Would also like training to be more robust and have more function. Especially would like to see training assignments as of a specific date entered rather than hire date. Would also like employees not to see future trainings until 30 days before the due date. Seeing annual training all year is confusing to them and they get desensitized to seeing that training and ignore it when it comes due again.

Big Fan of BambooHR
I inherited this product when I came into my position as HR Director. I loved how easy it was to use from the beginning! I even chose to dive deeper into all that we use it for and my employees love it just as much as I do! The BEST part, when I have an issue that I need to call support on, they are always so friendly and helpful! Best customer service in my book!
Vorteile
I love it's simple format! I use it as my brain for HR as I move away from too many spreadsheets. I love how everything is available and at my fingertips quickly. My employees love it too! The app makes everything so much easier for them and they appreciate having the information easily available and can self-service most things. I just LOVE it so much!
Nachteile
There are a few features that could be easier to use for inputting our data. Since we have a church we have some unique payroll things that are doable just not as easy as I feel they could be.

Solution for HR people data storage and multi-access level people management
LOVE the customer service. The reps are easy to work with, willing to troubleshoot and very helpful.
Vorteile
Houses all Employee HR info in one easy to locate place. It also has variable access levels to allow trainers, supervisors, managers and IT support all different access levels.
Nachteile
We had to custom build a place to keep employee notes. It works well enough for us and is functional, but I am not sure why the software doesn't have that feature included. It is basically just a historical table with a few fields and a notes section. I hope that it doesn't keep getting too ala carte for every new improvement they make, sometimes it feels like companies are adding feature after feature to run up the price and make more money off of existing loyal customers.

BambooHR - A Wise Choice!
Overall, Bamboo HR is an excellent HRIS platform. All the basics are covered including: Time & Attendance, Employee Documents, Employee Profile, Attendance Management just to name a few. It is easy to navigate through the site - and all of the applications are at your fingertips. The software is easy to learn. They offer a good after-sales customer support service.
Vorteile
Very comprehensive platform. Easy to navigate through the software, simple design structure to manage employees, profiles, attendance and training and development. Easy to learn software.
Nachteile
Sometimes there is a delay when loading documents and when entering the new employee setup, but that should be expected.

Fantastic HRIS!
We've been using BambooHR for about a year now and it has been such a positive change from our previous HRIS. Functionality, ease of use, and customizability have all been huge positives for us.
Vorteile
Very user friendly; we have several employees that struggle with technology in general, but they're able to use the web app and the mobile app with very little help! They are also very good about keeping the software updated and add new features all the time that make it even more useful.
Nachteile
I wish I could do more with custom reports to include payroll information. They've started adding functionality to the custom reports, but so far it doesn't include payroll information. However, I do expect to see that before too long.

BambooHR is a superb Employee Management Software
This has been a winner software for my company of 150 employees.
Vorteile
Great for everything to do with employee management, performance reviews, shared essential data and much more
Nachteile
Sometimes under “Hiring”, individual resumes and cover letters will not open in Chrome. When this has happened, I have switched to Microsoft Edge. Later I discovered that simply refreshing the browser sometimes corrects this problem in Chrome.

Its a All-In-One HR application
Overall, this application is 9/10 for me. It has the very user friendly interface which anyone can use easily without training (Super easy to use). Its Self-Service is a game changer meaning i dont have to email HR for every little thing like updating address or seeing my benefit or vacation. If you are new to the company, Onboarding is very smooth. Also, im grateful for its mobile version which lets me check my performance at anytime and anywhere. I can access my history, upcoming holiday and employee information from this very application.

Honestly, this app is all in one application that saves a lot of time as a employee while making us feel empowered. Whether it's about setting goals, onboarding o requesting time off, it has everything thus saving a lot of back-and-forth hassle. Instead of asking HR for every single change/update, we can do it ourself through this application. Other features i liked about this app is the performance monitoring and the transparency of my own career history, upcoming holidays and many more.
Nachteile
There is not much complaint from my side regarding this app but it would have been perfect if it had payroll Built-in instead of add-on service but its still great.

A user friendly and functional HRIS system
Vorteile
When using the reporting function whether it's the standard reports of custom reports I appreciate the ability to customize the fields, and time span I need for my reports. The onboarding new starter packet and task customization is great to streamline the onboarding process. We are able to automate some of the tasks and track their completion. For example, we assigned some policies we need signatures on before their start date. The employee gets the chance to read these items before they start to best prepare themselves for their first day.
Nachteile
My least favourite thing about the onboarding packet function is the lack of ability to assign tasks to more than one person. For example I send tasks to our IT team to remind them we need equipment and accounts setup for a new hire. I had to create an individual task for each IT member, rather than a task for the whole group. We already have them grouped by access level, it would be nice to use that as an option to assign tasks.

Unethical pricing practices, poor customer service/poor treatment of loyal longstanding...
Vorteile
They made the administrative side of HR so much easier for us. Easy tracking, automatic reminders, clearly display everything to staff, conduct performance reviews, onboarding and offboarding simplified. All great. Really helped our business get to the next level with staffing. We were so deeply upset when their business practices forced us to find a different product.
Nachteile
After almost 4 years as a loyal customer, they restructured their subscription packages moving us from top tier to mid tier and moving some of the add-on features we were paying extra for into the top tier. At that point they told us that unless we upgraded with a 75% price increase we would no longer receive upgrades to those features. The point of subscription software is that we are paying for the continual development and upgrades. It is totally not ok to force existing customers to pay monthly for legacy software.
I tried to negotiate with them and ask for some kind of compromise, like grandfathering us into top tier only for those features or perhaps a discount on top tier for a period of time. They absolutely refused to work with me, straight up refused to let me talk to a manager, insisted that I had to take the full price increase to retain updates for the features I'd already been using for years. When I told them that was a terrible way to treat a loyal customer and that I would take my business elsewhere they were fine with it. Perhaps because we are a small business, they don't see it worth their time to keep us as a customer.
I would warn everyone away from BambooHR as you can't trust the prices they tell you you'll pay. Unreliable, predatory, and awful way to treat loyal customers. From a company that preaches about treating people well from an HR perspective, they sure don't understand how to treat customers.

We love BambooHR!
BambooHR has been great! The application is always being updated with new features. I am also able to get help when I need it. The employees are always very friendly and helpful!
Vorteile
BambooHR has simplified so many processes for us. It is very user friendly and our employees can clock in and request time off from the app on their phone. These features alone have saved so much time.
Nachteile
I'm sure it will be added, but I would like some of the new features like employee community and benefits administration to be available on the app. We have quite a few employees who do not have their own computer. This would make things much easier for them.

Great application for Company Management
Overall, I really enjoy using it because it really enhances the relationship between HR and employees with any incessant need for direct communication and everything is tracked.
Vorteile
I like the ease of the application and how quickly you can request for leaves or look at other people on leave as well. I wish that we could put in our own color profile as a personal setting, rather than stick to the one that the company has chosen. For example, HR has chosen the color orange, and I would like to change the color to Blue as a personal setting.
Nachteile
I would like to see different views available for people on leave. For example, within teams, I would like to see that a person has blocked off a day for an annual leave and can't apply on that day because it's already taken by somebody else. It helps employees under teams recognize that another team member might be out that day and they may not get an approval.
I would like to see flexibility on the way hours are plotted for a workday. For example, within our company we have to use percentages like 0.25 to describe a quarter day and because we have an 8-hour workday sometimes we need to take leave for only 1 hour or 1/2 hour and there is a difficulty in plotting that as a leave.

BambooHR brilliant HR tool to start your business with
Overall, it is a great to for small companies that don't have too many resources to track time logging, vacations, sicknesses, direct reports, etc, and have quick analysis on the distribution both in terms of age, gender, location, etc.

The API to google calendar and the user friendly interface
Nachteile
I'd really enhance the process to see review people time logging. It is hard to track on an overall basis who is missing, who has reported 'x' or 'y' hours so I can quickly check if that's is ok, etc.

Very positive experience!
Overall, a very positive experience. The home page/dashboard is very handy and for hiring purposes its great!

Great for payroll and employee management
I do really like the program a lot. It is worth using and we would purchase it again in a heartbeat. We have used for nearly 3 years, and will continue using. I wish they could improve some things, but it slowly gets better.
Vorteile
It is wonderful for company announcements, payroll, reporting, employee management, and onboarding. It make life much easier in many ways and gives us a more professional approach and look to the team.
Nachteile
Employee coaching and project tasking are not great. It really is not good at either of these. Too hard to track, follow, and update. For hiring and onboarding it doesn't sync well with Indeed and we always have issues. Like when rejecting a candidate, we have to manually send an email to every candidate that applies. Time tracking needs some minor tweaking. It would be great if it would auto notify of odd punches and help control OT better. The eNPS program is dumb and not realistic. We changed the questions to the Gallup 13 instead.

Great for smaller orgs and Simple to use
Love it for smaller orgs, had a great relationship with our implementation manager. Was also in a great cost point for our org need at the time.
Vorteile
It is super user-friendly and easy to use. Very little training is needed for employees to be able to navigate and figure out how to do things. The interface is not overwhelming, and it has solid reporting potential.
Nachteile
When we offboarded, it was due to some updates that made it hard to support a global and larger headcount.

Bamboo HR is a fantastic HRIS tool for a business looking to enhance their people & HR...
Bamboo was a brilliant tool to use to get us into using HRIS and introducing HR to our business. It ultimately didn't scale to our needs as we exploded as a company but we couldn't have got where we are today without it.
Vorteile
Bamboo HR was incredibly simple to implement with excellent documentation which enabled us to have Bamboo set up very quickly. It is definitely one of the most user friendly tools and we implemented this without a HR team so that shows how intuitive the platform is. Bamboo HR also has a fantastic array of integrations which is pretty critical. We used Officevibe and then Lattice for peformance management so we seamlessly integrated this tying together our tech stack.
Nachteile
Bamboo HR lacked a lot of features that we needed as we started scaling. We moved to Rippling due to a number of limitations with the Bamboo platform like password management, a stronger ATS etc so we could vertically consolidate our stack under one platform.

Leave and onboarding managment tool
Bamboo HR is extremely help product for us in managing our leaves , working hours , onboarding documnets , company internal information. The product is one of the simplest product we have used and it gives absolutely great performance in Web browser. Little issues with mobile app we have faced.
Vorteile
1. Extremely easy and sorted interface experience.
2. Managing HR onboarding documents, digital signature, leave management and counts are all super helpful.
3. High in performance and simplified product.
4. Compatible in both web and mobile version.
Nachteile
1. Very limited to its Dashboard option and no customization is availabile in Dashboard as well.
2. It sends multiple reminders sometime which is very overwhelming.

Not As Efficient as Anticipated
It's a step up from what our company was doing previously, but we definitely need to consider moving into a different HR software.
Vorteile
Once you finally construct an HR new hire packet to your liking, the rest of the process for onboarding is easy. PTO tracking is a simple feature to use as well.
Nachteile
-The system does not flag a candidate with duplicate SSN's, ID information etc. This is a critical downfall. A candidate can create several duplicate profiles with different emails or phone numbers to get around being classified as "not eligible for rehire". If you use this system, please be sure your staff does their due diligence to compare similar names, and middle names.
-Customer service is dreadful. Rather than specifically identifying your concern and providing a solution - your situation gets referenced to one of their articles. Then the ETA for an actual solution is left to ambiguity.
-Their system bugs often; For example, I just cleared my inbox today, and it's still prompting me on open tasks needing my attention.
